I have had a few things happen at this place that left me uncomfortable but my last experience getting a crown was the final straw. In the past I had encountered issues here with months of nerve pain after getting numbed for a cavity fill. I jerked when she hit the nerve numbing me up because it really hurt. Another time the dental assistant helping with replacing an old filling in a back molar used my face to support the weight of her hand as she worked in my mouth. That caused stress and pain in my jaw. When I had to have an old crown replaced I was dreading it and I should have trusted my gut and gone elsewhere. I had the same experience as Td O. where afterwards the tooth was sensitive to hot and cold and caused jaw pain for months after. I went back three separate times on the space of 6 months and saw two different dentists. I was charged every time. Even though the original was an older crown, I had no pain before the replacement. I was told it was probably an issue with my bite and I got a referral to an orthodontist. I already have and do wear a nightguard and had it before any crowns so my bite hasn't changed. I had another crown that needed to be replaced so I went back to my original dentist who had done my crowns before. It's a drive but so worth it. The crown he did gave me zero issues other than some initial soreness due to the drilling etc they have to do. Even the procedure itself was pain free. He has a technique when numbing to avoid hitting nerves. I still have issues with the Desert Dentistry crown and will probably pay my old dentist to redo it because there's something about it that isn't right. It's like a square block that doesn't even feel tooth shaped and has severe edges. It's not even smooth like my new crown. I still get twinges os pain when flossing or eating hard items or extreme temps. Total amateur work that has caused me a lot of pain. Taking me and my family to my old dentist from now on. I would rather drive the extra 45 minutes each way than deal with ongoing pain that never gets addressed. read more

I went in for my cleaning with Mercedes, and as always, she did an amazing job! I did have a little issue with a tooth and was nervous since my usual dentist wasn't in. I saw Dr. Westby instead, and I have to say--5/5! He did a full jaw, neck, and tongue exam, which no other dentist has ever done for me. He made me feel very comfortable, and the numbing shot was completely painless. Erica, his assistant, was also super nice and kept checking on me throughout the filling. Absolutely awful. Avoid with so many other choices, you deserve to be warned I want to emphasize I had NO dental problems or needs when arriving to this dentist. THEY recommended some dental work to prevent future possible problems. Walked in fine and left in pain. Returned a few weeks later and was treated with filing a crown down due to it being too high and fluoride to reduce the cold sensation after their work. They DID charge me the $35.00 to treat my tooth ache they caused. Why would a reputable business charge more to cure a problem they created? Answer: They wouldn't. Reputable.... I have dealt with the inability to eat on one side as well as hot and cold for almost 2 months. I went back for a third time, they stated there is nothing else they can do. "They are just given what God gives them to work with" is what I was told. Remember, this started as a routine visit with NO dental problems. They don't apologize. They don't try to correct unless they can get away with charging me or insurance more. They have yet to follow up with me since asking for relief of pain. I'm going to try to pursue the insurance claim and let them know their work wasn't performed adequately. Doubt there is anything that can be done but at least will try for it's the right thing to do when a business fails terribly and maliciously. For validation, I'll add the tooth in question. I had such a great experience here. I don't understand the negative comments at all. I came in for a first time exam and cleaning. Booked an appointment the day before! Walking in the waiting room was so comfortable. I plopped right down on these comfy brown leather chairs. I had to wait a bit but it didn't bother me. Maybe 15 minutes. Not so bad. Was greeted by Nicole my x ray person. Who did a super thorough job of getting all the pictures of my mouth. They explain everything they do. There is no guess work. Abby was my hygienist. So friendly. Offered me numbing gel if I needed it for comfort which I declined. I got to meet dr Z for my exam. She was so friendly and professional. The level of detail this place gives you is hard to find. This isn't a place where they miss things. She gave me some great suggestions on some things I could fix if I wanted to. Absolutely no pressure at all. It's so hard to find an office that doesn't sell you things every time you walk in. I'll be coming here for years. read more

Three complaints with the last being the most outrageous after my visit on August 2nd 2021 (late post as I just recently went over my finances). They charged me $25 for a fluoride treatment that is 100% covered by delta dental insurance (I didn't know this at the time so I payed them before I left during my first appointment.) So essentially they double dipped for payment. As a brand new customer I gave them my insurance and asked them to please let me know if anything wasn't covered by my insurance. They assured me they would do so and that everything would be covered. Well, I was charged $61.95 for a full mouth X-ray that can only be covered under insurance once every 3 years.... They decided to do these X-rays even though my insurance showed it wouldn't be covered for this specific procedure for another 2 months). They could have chosen to do bitewing X-rays instead so that I wouldn't be charged anything. Finally, after checking my teeth for the routine cleaning the dentist informed me that I have a whopping 7 capacities. I've never in my life had this many... had she said one or two I'd have believed her even tho I have zero sensitivity in my teeth at all. (I also religiously do my regular 6 month cleanings - but had waited this time around 8 months given scheduling problems with corona and then later moving to AZ). When trying to convince me to get the work done, they pointed out that my insurance would cover a large portion of the expense (which is true). Because I don't want my teeth being unnecessarily drilled I told them I'd seek a second opinion and asked for a print out of all the teeth that were "cavities , the teeth X-rays , as well as the surface teeth photos. I went to another dentist recommended by a friend and I went from 7 cavities to 0 with two teeth being "we-will-watch" teeth as your teeth naturally decay as we get older so some spots need to be monitored because it isn't clear yet that they are cavities . I definitely feel ripped off by this dental establishment as I was charged $90 unnecessarily and they would have gotten more out of me had I let them drill into my teeth for cavities I did not have. They aren't really clear on the fees for services at this dental practice. We were billed one amount and on our next appointment they had another amount greater than the first one that they supposedly forgot to bill the first time. We paid it because we had no choice, but it just seemed very unscrupulous of them to quote one amount and then all of a sudden there's a balance on the account for another amount on our return visit. Also, the doctor I saw became defensive over a small insignificant complaint that I had regarding insurance and ended up talked down to me in the explanation, which rubbed me the wrong way. In reality, I didn't feel very welcomed over all at this place. I will find another provider for the remaining work I have left to do. Billing has been an absolute nightmare. I was recommended to come here from a family member. I am continuously OVER paying for treatment, initially I over paid $400. Yeah you seen that right $400, I thought ok big accounting error no big problem I'll use it for other treatment I'll need. I asked for a refund over the phone they told me I need to be in person. When I went in person the lady at the billing desk told me they can do it over the phone, and they can do it in person. Ok I'll get what I don't used refunded. I ended up using all the "credit" I had and got treatment done, my last visit was some time in March of 2024. I paid out of pocket this last visit mind you, about $120. I am now going again today and I am told I have a credit of $138.60 on my account? WHAT!!! How is this possible as my last visit I paid out of pocket!!! What sense does this make. Also I am quoted again because of the new year, they are quoting me $500 more than what they did last time! What was the excuse? Prices increased for the new year. What kind of sh*t is this. So I asked for a refund and the lady told me I had to wait for the manager to get my refund via check. LMFAO I was told last time I can get it in person via the same payment method. This place has been terrible billing wise. Their reviews are for the dentists probably not billing. Terrible billing structure. Now I have to wait 4-5 days to get a check for the manager. I had a credit on my account for about 8 months and was never notified I had money sitting in there that needed to be refunded! Terrible terrible terrible. My family has been coming here for years. Customer service, for the most part, was decent. Care from hygienists and docs are good and comforting. With that said, I'm greatly disappointed waiting two months for appointments for my two daughters and being called two hours prior to the appointment to inform me my insurance is now out of network and I would have a hefty out of pocket. This changed the beging of February! No empathy or apologies from the person I spoke with only excuses as to why they called with such short notice. Her exact words were. TERRIBLE AND MOST UNPROFESSIONAL - I went in for a Dental exam 11 days ago. It was recommended that I have 4 teeth pulled. They emailed me a quote for $572. I then scheduled an appointment to have this done on Friday, March 17th. I had to take off from work. Starting on Monday, March 13th, I called the office everyday to get another prescription for more antibiotics. On Thursday, March 16th, my relative went in and PAID FOR MY PROCEDURE. I went in on Friday, March 17th for my procedure. I was met with paperwork to be completed that could have been done at my last appointment or any day before this. When I was called back, one of the accounting ladies stated they had MISQUOTED the cost of my procedure and that is was $1,184. As you can imagine, I was surprised and VERY upset. My first question was why didn't anyone call or email me this information. Second question, why when I called and spoke to someone 4 days in a row, wasn't this mentioned. FINAL question, when my relative came in and paid for my procedure yesterday, why wasn't this information conveyed to her. They had EVERY opportunity to contact me, or tell me when I called for 4 days, or tell my relative when she paid for my procedure, They agreed, they messed up but would not honor their original quote and only offered me an apology. This is the WORST experience I have ever had as well as the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL Behavior. This is a very nice facility.  I was new to this location so it took me about 10 minutes to fill out the required paperwork, then after a short wait in the lobby, I was back in the treatment area.  The treatment area was nice.  Although it was on a busy road, I could not hear any traffic from the outside.  Also, there was a TV that I could watch while I was waiting. Mercedes, my hygienist was very nice and professional.  She took xrays of my teeth and cleaned them and made pleasant conversation along the way.  Then I had a short visit with Dr Mayorga who was also quite nice.  They found a cavity and she explained the filling in detail.  They were then able to schedule me for the next week to get it filled, not a few weeks out like some places I've been to. Recently moved to AZ and needed a dentist. In my overall check and cleaning they noticed a cavity (my first one ever) They took care of it that same visit and I had no problems. Reason for 4 stars is I got some major deep tooth sensitivity 3 weeks later and went back in wondering why. They told me I needed a root canal. I asked them to just file my filling down because I thought it was sitting too high and I was hitting it when I was chewing. They did but told me to get the root canal anyways. The sensitivity is now completely gone and I'm glad I didn't just listen and go get the root canal. Seemed off that I had a cavity and they didn't see anything else on the X-ray and then 3 weeks later I suddenly need a root canal? Problem solved now though so no harm no foul. read more

On the date of my initial appointment, I was informed that my appointment was deleted by a former employee, so I rescheduled. This was an inconvenience, but things happen... I show up to the second scheduled appointment and complete all of the paperwork when I overhear the front desk using the same excuse to reschedule a different customer's appointment. Is this the "go to" excuse or does Desert Dentistry have serious employee retention issues??? I moved to AZ over a year ago and dental care is something you worry about moving to an unfamiliar place. I have to say since I first walked in here I felt welcomed. I have been to this location maybe 5 times in a year since I clearly needed some good dental work. Dr. Villalobos and her girls are amazing, the communication between them is something I have never experienced at a dental office. All the girls at front desk are good but Bridget is her front desk person and she rocks. Every time I've been in she has been assisted by a different girl but they are all great at what they do and always on top of their game. Whole staff here has been friendly, the place is immaculately clean, they are organized and make me look forward to my next visit. I did not mistake your business, it is 100% yours. I am also concerned when I called for my medical records the receptionist could only provide a ledger of treatment and X-rays. I specifically asked for the daily notes from the provider and was told I could only have a ledger of services provided. Not acceptable and frankly your professional board would frown on making the process of getting records challenging. Do you mind sharing how many treatment cubes you have? I booked an appointment with these people on October 24 2023 ,I had been going there for years before pandemic. I waited months for this appointment on February 1, 2024, mind you I live 45 miles away and braved an hour and a half traffic. I get to my appointment 15 minutes early check in and the First Lady is having issues so another takes over and states that I don't have an appointment.I show her the email confirmation saying it was setup and the she stated that it was cancelled because I have a balance. I said what I pay in full every time and ask is this the full amount and they would always say yes.I made sure to pay I specifically get an FSA card for all my medical bill payments . I said I didn't get the calls when did they call she couldn't give me any dates times just stated that they called. I said when is the bill from I haven't been here in 4 years she said right and we tried to collect last year. I stated that I would pay the 60 now but they would need to figure out my appointment, it shouldn't have been cancelled and I should have been told about the balance at the time . I asked why didn't they tell me she says oh they may missed a pop up. This is priceless I told her I would pay the money she says they don't have it anymore as they sent it to collections. Also that the Doctor i assume the one I only came here to see jessica Villalobos said I can never be a patient again because of the bill I was not aware of .so if you are ever looking for a dentist office this is not the one. I was about thirty minutes early for my appointment. I didn't have anywhere to go so I decided that I would wait in the waiting room. However, I was greeted right away by the receptionist who offered me a water and a guided tour of the facility. Pretty impressed. All the staff was friendly. I had my X-rays done and my teeth cleaned. No cavities!! I was upset that I forgot my lip balm, because previous cleanings, I would open my mouth and tear my lip open because it would be dry, but guess what?? They had lip balm for me! Really convenient and flavorful too, like pineapple, or the clear lifesavers! They also gave me a goodie bag on my way out. I was pretty happy with my experience and I can't wait to be back in 6 months. Haha read more

I went here because it was close to my home and has fairly positive reviews. The office staff was very nice. The dental hygienist, who checked my level of cleaning needed, was extremely heavy handed and needless to say, it was a painful experience. I'm not a dentist expert by any means, but I know a little about healthcare. The first appointment is the most important, folks. It is not a time designated for painful experiences. I was also evaluated by a dentist, whom I don't remember the name of, who revealed that I have 4 cavities (I have had 0 cavities in my lifetime). I was quoted roughly $3,000 without insurance for a cleaning and cavity fillings. I just visited another dentist and they revealed 0 cavities, minimal discomfort for the same eval, and quoted me $500. The dentist spent a lot of time with me there, as opposed to desert dentistry. Maybe it is a better experience when you have insurance. Regardless, I feel scammed. I hear that is very prevalent in the dental health industry. Skip these guys. read more

My wife and I both went here for our first examination and were told we had 4-6 cavities each...4-6 cavities EACH! My family diligently brush our teeth and floss multiple times a day, have been under the care of a dentist for more than a decade, and we have 4-6 cavities each??!! Unfortunately, I'm a busy guy and didn't have time to research further so I paid the hundreds of dollars and got the cavities drilled only to have the right side of my mouth unusable - even 6 months later. OK, I never placed a review for Dr. Mayorga because I just didn't think it was that important. Then I found myself in need of a dentist while visiting the east coast, and the reviews were really helpful. So here goes. Dr Mayorga and her team are fabulous! The office is well run, the hygienists are great, the front desk staff is really helpful. Dr Mayorga is just the best. She has provided great general care of my teeth for years now, (I love that she offers nitrous oxide to help me through the procedures that I find painful or stressful). On top of all this, when I suffered some dental trauma a few years ago Dr. Mayorga was so supportive and facilitated my care with the orthodontist- she even made a joint visit at the orthodontist's office to discuss my care! This dentist office is the king of the up-sell and unnecessary procedures. Communications are not complete and thorough. It seems from my experience with this office that everyone is incentivize to sell more procedures, products and service plans. All I have gotten from the staff is you need to do this or that and we will get you on a recurring plan for the health of your teeth. I need facts about dental health, not up sells to make the dentist who owns this practice more money. Beware of this element of this specific dentist office. Owners comments are they can't find me in there database, but they can find me well enough to send me an invoice for additional services. She is meticulous in her work and knows exactly what needs to be done, be it a root canal, oral surgery, replacing a crown or simply a cleaning. She is attentive to your needs and goes above and beyond to ensure you're a satisfied customer. And Yolanda is there to make the entire dental experience (which I'm not particularly fond of) tolerable and even enjoyable! First, let me preface this review stating that a trip to the dentist is, or WAS among the top 5 of my biggest fears. So if you share my "dentaphobia" then come over and see Dr Villalobosin Ahwatukee. When looking for a new office, I narrowed it down to 2 but didn't even call the second one in line. You see office folk, YOU are the first impression of a practice. If you are rude or dismissive, guess what, we don't want to schedule with you. Ashley,(I hope I got her name right!) at Desert Dentistry clearly got the memo on this, because she was a class act, very friendly, and immediately made me feel comfortable. I was not shy about letting her know I was terrified, and she assured me I would be in good hands with Dr. V. I had put off visiting the dentist for a long, long time. I was ashamed that I had not gone in, but knew I most likely had cavities and chose to live in denial for awhile. I was also concerned about my old mercury fillings and wanted them replaced, but man, did not want to have it done! Let me tell you, everyone I came into contact with was excellent. The hygienist was top notch, the gal dealing with insurance saved me a bundle from the original insurance quote, and Dr. V was amazing. I chose to use nitrous oxide to calm my anxiety and what a life saver! Dr V is very gentle, she explained step by step what she was doing, and I finally conquered by fear. Dare I say, I am no longer terrified! I'm even going to go back in 6 mos like most normal people do! I am sooooo excited that I finally found someone I can trust. They are so gentle that I am moving my 6 year old over to this practice so that we can all be at the same office.
