Had no idea that the farm was so close to home. We had a great time visiting. We got to see how cows were brought in to get milked which was very enlightening. Then they showed us a video about the farm and facility in Phoenix. We took a tram around the farm, we were in amazed in how many cows they have and how they keep track of them. The was the 100th year for Shamrock Farms and they did a good job showing it off. Because it's Christmas time they had Santa and Mrs. Claus fly in from the South Pole for the kids. All around it was a nice trip out to the farm with the kids. read more

I was scheduled today for a valentines event with my two kids. Unfortunately, I saw it would be raining today and knew this would be an issue for my autistic son who doesn't handle the mud very well. I emailed Shamrock asking if they could please change my tour date. Customer service was fast and I was offered a "one time" exception to move to tomorrow instead. Unfortunately, this wouldn't work with my schedule. I was also told I could come for the special activities and skip the tour, which just wasn't worth the 1.5 hour drive for me, especially if my son would end up having a meltdown. It's disappointing that they would not budge on allowing me to change to a tour during the week next month or the month after. It would have been totally fine for me to lose the extra money I paid for the extra event. I will say that shamrock technically did nothing wrong here . They stated in their terms what was allowed for cancelations and modifications. However, it would be nice if a "family friendly" company would have been more flexible, especially with a special needs child. The lady I communicated with on email just didn't seem nice to me or like she really cared. Her responses were cold. As a business owner I never would have responded like she did. read more

Great Tour! We loved this tour. It moved fast, very informative and we learned a lot. This was a very professional tour. We enjoyed our guides and the overview of dairy farming. It was interesting to see how the dairy cows are milked and hear about their life on the farm. We loaded a "cow train" and visited different areas of the farm before returning back where we started. We were all offered a bottle of flavored milk and most of us even enjoyed a taste of Shamrock Ice Cream. We loved the tour and would recommend it to others. read more

A charming roadside attraction. We went to see Roxie the cow and her friends at Shamrock Farms in Stanfield AZ. A family owned business started in 1922. The facility was built in 2003 and tours started in 2005. The main dairy is in Phoenix and they market in AZ and CO. The welcome area is a giant barn with a small museum, snack bar (serving their own ice cream) and gift shop. School tours in the morning, public tours in the afternoon October thru May. The put you on the tram and drive you thru the facility describing the life of a diary cow. On the day of our tour, 21 new calves had been birthed since midnight. You get to see the milking operation and get to feed and pet some calves as well as demonstrate the auto milking machines (but not on real cows). Plan on 2 to 2-1/2hrs. You get a free milk sample at the end of the tour. Chocolate... mmmm... Make reservations for a tour, you'll enjoy it. read more

Another item on the where to take folks from out of town with kids list. Hour long tour shows where the milk on your supermarket shelves came from. Shamrock farm was about as clean as a working dairy farm can get. Kids would probably enjoy petting the baby cows. My personal favorite was the milking barn -- the precision of those cows churning through the line was impressive...reminded me a bit of people standing in lines for rides at disneyland. Minus 1 star for the $9 admission. Given the somewhat infomercial feel to various parts of the presentation, Shamrock should knock a couple of dollars of that price for having a captive audience. read more

Wonderful tour and so much fun! We went on the tour with our homeschooling group. The price was 5.00 per person and we had approximately and hour tour. The kids had a great time. My fifth grader really focused in on a lot of the facts that the tour guide was saying. I was happily surprised to see how healthy and happy the cows are. I don't think you can miss on this field trip. read more

Recently, along with my coworker, we took a group of schoolchildren to Shamrock Farms during our fall break. We were greeted by enthusiastic farmers who were eager to show off their farm. During our lunch the children were offered a glass of cold milk and an ice cream or popsicle for dessert. Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We were driven around the huge farm in a simple tram. The kids liked being pulled and thought it was fun that the tram would only move with a secret code. (You'll have to visit to see what it is!) We started off with a brief lesson in how much a cow consumes as well as how much it produces daily. Next stop was a cute playground where the kids were able to shake off their sillies. From there we were able to see hundreds of cows (literally) being milked at the same time. It's a pretty amazing sight to see. We saw many different areas of the farm such as the maternity ward (no babies the day we went), the pedicure spa, the hospital, the kindergarten cows and the junior high cows. (You've got to visit to see why they call it that!) The last and definitely cutest part was the stop to pet eight of the newest family members of Shamrock Farms, the calves born only three weeks prior. The kids, as well as the adults, had a really great time on this field trip and I suggest taking some time to check out this farm. It's a lot of fun and very informative. My tip for you is to remember to take any allergy medication if you need it! The drive is a little long unless you live in Maricopa, and apparently the farm can't be found on GPS, so you have to use written directions, but once you get there, the trip is so worth it. read more

The grandkids, kids and adults had a blast. What an operation! The cows know what they're supposed to do, and they can't seem to wait to do it. Petting the calves was the most fun for the little ones, especially putting (gloved) fingers in their mouths. Good way to spend a few hours of family time. read more

We went here for my sons school field trip. We drove an hour to get there, got a 1 hour tour, and were told we had to leave because another group was coming. This is a group of 17 first and second graders, whipping through the entire tour in one hour for kids that little?! And after we paid and drove so far there. Once we ate our lunch and got ice cream (all about 30 min time for this portion) they just left us to figure out what was next. Then they came over to let us know that they had a large group coming so we had to leave within 15 minutes. Then to top it off they put some of the next groups lunch bags on our lunch cart and after we had been gone a bit asked us to turn around and bring them back. Just a complete disappointment and we will not be going back. read more

Whoa Helen, MOOve over, this is not just the experience for kids, parents, and elderly previous dairy barn owners, an occasional dental student celebrating their 23rd birthday also loves themselves a farm tour. The tour is definately geared towards kids with several eye rolls following "cows love earrings" commentary to explain their tags in their ears, playground pit spot (pretty impressive display actually and feeling the milk sucking was kind of cool), and tales of Rosy the cow mascot off in the fields (making her the longest living cow in history). This being said I really enjoyed my birthday surprise farm tour! I loved feeling how warm milk is when it comes out of cows, seeing the animals in the fields, seeing the interesting automated milker, learning about the organic anf traditional field concurrently to save sick cows, and I LOVE LOVE LOVED petting/feeding the baby cow! The milk to try at the end of the tour was great too@ I haven't been able to find the dulce de leche milk in stores but it was a surprisingly complex, sweet, and refreshing splurge. The protein drinks are awesome as well. One of my happiest recent events and made the boyfriend and my annual Christmas card cover. I was very tempted to buy the cow socks as well because they just appeared amazing. If Shamrock farms is ever thinking about sponsoring a local runner, be sure to look me up! read more

Our Girl Scout troop took a tour on April 2nd. First and foremost, even though it's out in Maricopa (south), it was pretty easy to find. From AZ Ave and Warner to the farm it took just under an hour to get there on a Saturday. Our tour was at 11:10 and we arrived an hour early to make crafts, do face paining, shop and eat if cream. All the girls really enjoyed it. The tour itself takes u all over the dairy farm, up and close to their dairy farms. Then to a small playground area for the kids that have a milking simulation area, tall slides, etc. then we walked over the the area where they milk the cows. They show the whole process, then we sat down for a quick video. Next we went to where all they keep the baby cows. The girls all got a chance to feed and pet some them, which they loved, Total, the tour was just a bit over an hour. The farm is pretty clean. Probably not worth doing more than once because of how far it is, but definitely good one time. read more

This tour was excellent! Very well-organized and fun. The one thing that wasn't so great was that we were the only family there that day amidst a tour of seniors. When it came time to get on the tram, the older people all rushed to get on and there was no seating left for a family of 7 (including a baby and a pregnant mama). It was awkward for us, as there were several spots for 2 people, and many couples on board who could have yielded, but no sense of courtesy. We finally asked the workers if they could find us a spot and they tapped some folks on the shoulder and we were able to get a spot. (We could have split up, but the whole point of being there was to be there as a family.) So obviously not Shamrock's fault, but it would have been such a better experience if they had thought to load the families with young children first. read more
