I had the wonderful good fortune to work with Shandrika Powell on my recent home update project. It started with the kitchen, where Shandrika gets credit for all the major features, including cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, hardware, lighting and flooring. Beyond the kitchen, she was an indispensable partner on decisions like: ---What direction to run the flooring? (I have a quirky house!) ---What to do about the fireplace hearth? (Install a new gas fireplace, which I love!) ---What to do about old, dated ceiling fixtures? (Install recessed lighting in every room, which is the best decision I ever made!) ---What to do about an odd-shaped nook in the dining room? (Built-in hutch. Fantastic!) I always thought of myself as someone with a great design sense, but I can see now that if I had done this on my own it still would've looked two decades old.
