We have bought jewelry here for my wife a few times over the last ten years. The staff is always friendly and patient. They also do repairs and cleaning even if you bought an item someplace else. Came in looking for engagement rings with my partner. Greeted by a very nice employee who started working with us and then gave us to another employee named Maria. Parts of the conversation were pleasant, but we felt pressured into buying rings we weren't sold on. We asked if we could transfer a ring that we liked and she informed that we need to be serious about purchasing a ring and tried to get us to purchase up front. We understand policy, but after she said that, she hinted at us not being able to purchase the rings we wanted due to lack of funds or that we weren't taking this next step in our relationship serious enough. She became short tempered as this all transpired-not sure if it was because it was 1.5 hours before closing or what but this hasn't been my partners previous experience at Shane Co. We felt that it took away from an exciting time of us getting an idea of what we wanted in rings for our engagement to making us feel rushed and judged. Shane Co. has been our go-to ever since we moved to Louisville almost 6 years ago. Engagement ring, wedding bands, pearls, etc. Their customer service has been outstanding since I can remember. Whether it's a cleaning or re-sizing, they've always been awesome. We recently were married and had to get my rings resized quick and in a hurry. There was a bit of a mixup but they fixed it in time and were so great about it. Their Covid precautions are also awesome. Temp checks at the door, everyone masked and they also offer curbside. I don't have a horror story, just frustration and unprofessionalism. I needed to get an heirloom ring resized. I came in once and one clerk said she'd take it back to the shop and ask if they could work on it based on the concern of not being able to replace a lost or damaged stone during the work. They told me the setting was built enough that it wouldn't be a problem. But I went ahead and took it back to go get other opinions and quotes. 2 other jewelers in this process told me the same, first unsure because they don't carry stones that would be able to replace mine, but then someone more senior/from the shop saying that they could in fact work on it and weren't too worried. But Shane Co quoted the cheapest and fastest, so I brought it back in. The clerk I had spoken to the first time wasn't there, so I talked to a new one, explained the situation, and she told me she would take it in and ask the shop just to double check. This time she came back saying they couldn't work on it. I'm fine with that and totally understand if that's the honest answer, but I don't appreciate the inconsistency, as each visit is hard to fit into my schedule. And while I appreciate erring on the safe side, this did differ from what I was told by other jewelers including at a previous and recent visit to Shane Co.! It appears to me that either a previous clerk misled me to try and get my business, or else they have an inexperienced worker in the shop who doesn't know or isn't capable of this work. In either case, I don't think we'll be coming here to shop for the wedding bands. They have wasted not just my time in visiting, but the timeline estimates I was looking at for planning my proposal. And while it may be tempting to trust a big name with low prices and fast turnaround, I just can't recommend coming here for getting work done unless you're ok compromising either quality or transparency. read more

I experienced the same thing on two separate occasions when trying to resize and even wanted to add a 1 carat stone to a ring, purchasing that stone from them. The Jeweler just couldn't do the job because there were baguette stones on each side of the solitare setting. it was my mother's ring and was not purchased at Shane. So unless you bought your jewelry there, don't waste your time with Shane Company, Hurstbourne. They don't have the confidence in their jewelers to do the job. Quality, Class and Style! My husband picked my engagement ring out at the Shane Co. in Cupertino, CA, then while engaged, we moved to Lexington, KY. I was ecstatic Shane had a Louisville location, and decided that was a sign we needed to get our wedding bands there as well. We did just that - no pressure, knowledgeable sales people LISTENED to what each of us was looking for, making suggestions along the way. You feel like you're talking to a friend. Shane's warranty policy on their rings keeps me coming in every six months, and even when just stopping by for a cleaning, the service is exceptional. I truly enjoy Shane so much that we've bought other items from them since because they make the expreince so enjoyable. Plus, they definitely keep up with more modern designs. Keep it up! read more

Hands down the worst experience in any type of business I've had. Back in 2015 around the month of December I purchased an engagement ring. The ring was unique and it came in two pieces that came together like a puzzle. When I bought the ring I asked for them to solder it. In 2016 half of the Ring was missing. I went into the store with the 1/2 of the ring and they told me that they didn't put the request to solder on my order and claims I never asked for it which is why it wasn't there. That's a lie. I told the manager I wanted it soldered the date of purchase. He told me the representatives would never make a mistake like that which is a joke because they're human beings, we all make mistakes. The representative (not the manager) who I spoke with had seen the metal clippings on the ring and notice that it was soldered despite the fact that was not written on the order when I purchased the ring. I remember the rep because she was at least six to seven months pregnant and she was arguing on my side with the manager. They even told me the only ring of that kind was in the case and I had to purchase the entire ring. I told them that was ridiculous and their argument was because a soldering request was not on my order, they could not honor to replace it. I've then wrote them a check for the amount they ask for. Before I walked out the door, the representative caught me and she told me that I was not going to get charged for the ring. I was then delighted. Right before my wedding day, the ring came apart again. Not only that, there was a collection on my credit report from Shane Company for a returned check which I was told would not be charged in the first place. I then had a conversation with the manager at that location about the two times my ring broke based on Shane Co soldering issues. The manager argued back and forth with me which turned into him telling me never to step foot in the store again and don't call back. He told a representative who was beside him if Mr Elliott ever calls again, hang up. I then received Shane Co's headquarters phone number which I've called today 87 times as of 2016 and I left over 20 messages and also complain to the FTC and BBB because I have not once received a phone call back from any representative from the Shane Company due to my experiences. I spent thousands of dollars at this company and can't receive a phone call. I can spend $50 on myself at a restaurant and a manager can give me a free meal or a refund back and y'all can't call me back after I spend thousands with you. It's been 3 years. read more

I might be biased since I received my engagement ring from here, but I truly enjoy Shane Co. My fiancé, Connor, said he did not get pushed into purchasing an engagement ring from here while he was browsing because the employees aren't paid on commission. The rep that helped was named Jason and according to Connor, Jason rocked. (hehe rocked. Diamonds are rocks. Get it?) I needed my ring resized and, even though it took 6 days, I received my engagement ring back in pristine condition. Plus, resizing is free! Nothing better than free. They offer you free, cold bottled water while you are browsing/waiting as well. Hydration is key. The store is open, clean, and the employees genuinely seem to know what they're talking about. When I briefly mentioned to one woman that my mother wanted some of her rings re-set, she suggested that the rings be brought in and they could go over designs and ideas to help out. So nice! Called ahead to ask for service on my watch, seems or it feels as if the person on the phone discourages a customer to come if you simply come in to just get your battery serviced, I guess they only want to sell you diamonds and jewelry, after pressing, I was informed it would be $15 dollars to swap out but only after they inspected the watch, some explanation about a seal in the watch. I arrived and someone saw that I needed watch service and took over the visit from the lady that answered earlier in the day, she basically came out and told me, we don't do watches here that are water resistant, you can go to the mall for that. But without even looking at my watch?! What kind of large jewelry dealer does not deal with watches and only watches that are not water proof? For diamonds and other jewelry, I cannot review their service, but I was made to fee like we don't value you and go somewhere else. read more

Man, why didn't I do my homework? I overpaid for the upgraded stone for my wife's ring by a huge amount. I found the same GIA graded diamonds online for about half of what I gave Shane. Basically, I could have purchased a new diamond for her setting from reputable online sellers and kept the old trade-in stone. That's how much I screwed up. Money doesn't come easy, and giving it away to "...your friend in the diamond business" is a very hard lesson. Now, every time I'll drive by that expensive building on prime real estate at Taylorsville and Hurstborne, I'll be reminded of what a fool I was. Please learn from me and do your homework before you make your purchase. I'm not sure why I was lulled into such complacency except it was my wife's birthday two days from now. This mistake probably cost me $1700 had I shopped instead of trading my wife's diamond back in on the new one. Oh well, lesson learned. A fool and his money are soon parted. I went here last March to pick out a ring for my now fiancé. We were greeted at the door by the store's friendly staff. The lady at the counter was very helpful in finding her ring size. After that she took me aside while another employee showed different styles to my fiancé. She asked me my budget, which was great since they were going to make sure not to show us anything we couldn't afford. We found several awesome styles that she liked, all within my budget. My now-husband and I shopped online and I found my ring, which I absolutely adored. The next day, we went in and unfortunately, they didn't have it for me to see in person but I didn't mind, I got sized, and we ordered my ring sans main diamond. We were hounded about ordering our main diamond with them after, even though we had ordered the center and setting online. Our customer service experience was decent, the woman helping us was very helpful but there was a pair of associates standing about 10 feet behind us and we could hear them whispering about us and laughing, which of course made us want to just leave but I admittedly was dead set on my ring. But as much as we tried to ignore it, every time I turned to look over my shoulder they were looking at our backs, laughing behind their hands. My husband and I are pretty obviously tattooed, and admittedly weren't dressed the best, but that shouldn't have mattered. We were there to spend our hard earned cash on my engagement ring. We could've gone without that judgement and snickering. A few months after we got married, my engagement ring snapped at the setting. It's delicate, I understood and wasn't angry or anything like that. I took it in, and I worked with Joe was incredibly kind and helpful. He listened to my story on how it broke (my hand got caught in a door) and apologized that it happened and broke, and promised he'd take good care of it. We actually started talking about reptiles and showing each other pictures of our pets and had a good conversation. After the three days he'd told me were up, I went in to pick it up and no one greeted me at the door, which they had previous times. No one talked to me whatsoever as I made my way back to the service counter, and I actually saw the pair that had been snickering about me and my husband. They saw me and turned their backs as I stood at the counter waiting for the girl working there to bring my ring back. When we got there, Andrew's band was misplaced by accident, but they were very apologetic and after it was found they offered to clean and do the rhodium plating for my band (which usually takes 24 hrs) in minutes. I went in to get me a ring that would commemorate by 49th wedding anniversary. My husband past away after Christmas and our anniversary was on the 2nd of January. He always ask if I would like to have a ring. So I did what he wanted. I went and picked me out with my daughters help a ring. The sales lady was so much help. He was very kind, considerate and acknowledged where the store could have given better customer service. He was extremely apologetic and I truly felt like he turned my experience around. Their "lifetime guarantee" is a complete JOKE. They try to sell you on their rings by saying that they have a lifetime guarantee for loose stones and prongs, etc. and then 2 years later when diamonds start falling out of your band they want to charge you upwa$100.. will be taking my business to Davis Jewelers from now on. What a great experience!! Kandice was incredibly helpful picking out a special gift from my awesome husband. I shared my vision and she knew exactly what I wanted! We picked my setting and searched the country for the right stone! I wanted big and beautiful and had a budget and we found the perfect one! If you've been in the Louisville area for the past decade or more, you've probably heard their advertisement a few times on the radio. It goes something like this, everytime, in that familiar mono-tone voice: "Now YOU have a friend in the diamond business. The Shane Company, at the corner of Hurstbourne Lane and Taylorsville Road. Open monday through friday 'till 8, Saturday and Sunday 'till 5, or online @ shaneco.com" I'm pretty much sure most of my family can quote that advertisement's ending. (one that I hope they never change because, because it works) And you know what? There's truth in advertising in this case. I've bought 3 rings there in total and I've always been impressed with their sales staff being not-pushy, caring about the customer, and knowledgeable. They even offer free cleanings and depending on what your ring is made out of free refinishing. And that's for life ladies & gents, as long as you can keep the proof of ownership documentation. That's impressive, and good to see because it means they stand behind their product. Not just once, but at least twice he sarcastically questioned the appraisal of my heirloom ring, even after I showed him the appraisal he was still very condescending towards me. I had shopped around before heading to Shane Co., so I had a good idea what I wanted. I found the staff to be a bit pushy at times. They do have a wide selection with stores nationwide. This came as a surprise since all these years I thought they were local. Limited selection in store for larger diamonds, but they offer to bring in any diamond you want......oh with a catch! They require a credit card for a refundable deposit of 20% or 25% of the price of the diamond. I found this policy to be annoying as no other place in town had mentioned this. Maybe they did not take me seriously shopping for bigger diamonds or maybe it's just a poor policy. Either way it made me go with a competitor down the road who was more than happy to bring in any diamond I wanted to see for free with no strings. I probably would have purchased the engagement ring here had it not been for the policy. read more

The sales staff has been great here since we first visited. I loved the fact that I got to choose my stone and it be something rare and unique and then choose the band for it to be set in. However the price of it was quite a lot but I have to admit after seeing other stores the stones at Shane are much better and so are the bands. Also I feel like the prices are reflecting the services given after the purchase of a ring as well. Cleanings and etc. A few mishaps have occurred along the way like not being able to find our name in the database and momentarily giving me a heart attack over not being able to find my stone or not having my ring size written down but after I get the ring I have a feeling I will be satisfied but I will be so glad once the whole process is finally over as well. read more
