Jan 2nd 2026 I'm leaving this review reluctantly, but I think it's important for others making major life-event purchases to be aware. I ordered a $12,000 custom engagement ring from this store. A key part of that purchase is trust and discretion. Unfortunately, someone from the store accidentally texted my fiancée directly, thinking they were texting me, which completely ruined the proposal surprise. I understand that mistakes happen, but this wasn't a minor error -- it fundamentally affected the purpose of the purchase. What was more disappointing was how the issue was handled afterward. The store offered a gift card only if I spent thousands more with them, which didn't feel like a meaningful or fair resolution. I'm sure they do good work, but attention to detail and accountability matter just as much as craftsmanship. I take my rings in for cleaning every couple of months while I'm at Shelbyville Plaza shopping at Trader Joe's and have them rhodium plated about twice a year. My soon-to-be fiancee and I decided to shop around at several different stores, and at first we had a good experience at Genesis. However, everything soured at the end. First, when we were exploring our financing options, I was told to fill out some forms on a kiosk in their office to see what my approved credit limit would be. Surprise surprise, a week later suddenly a credit card shows up at our house - I was never once told that what I was actually doing was signing up for a credit card. While I was secretly signing up for this card, the financing woman was also pressuring my partner intensely by warning her about how many diamonds they sell in a day, and how if we left maybe that diamond could disappear, and is she sure we wanted to leave and look elsewhere knowing that this diamond was on the table, etc. We had this conversation at other stores, but they did not feel as uncomfortable as they did at Genesis. When we went to leave to look at another store, our sales associate then spent 10 minutes dragging that other store through the mud. If I could give 0 stars I would. I accompanied my friend to Genesis to help find an engagement ring for his girlfriend (now fiancee, no thanks to Genesis). We came in with an exact photo of the ring she wanted (2 carat round on a simple 14k gold setting) so we figured it would be a pretty relaxing, easy trip. We were greeted and "helped" by Sherry. She was immediately condescending and very much a typical icky salesperson. We showed her the photo of what we knew his girlfriend wanted and asked if Genesis could do something very similar. She said absolutely not (remember this is as simple as can be. A round diamond on a gold band) and proceeded to tell us that they do not offer 14k gold (I called the next day and another employee confirmed that they in fact do offer that, so not sure why she lied). She then showed us about 15 settings that looked nothing like the simple one we were searching for including pavé bands, cathedral settings, and just tasteless, gaudy rings that we knew his girlfriend would hate. When I expressed concern and showed her the photo again and asked if she could please show us one similar, she rolled her eyes at me and turned to my friend and said "Don't listen to her (referring to me) YOU know YOUR girlfriend...do you REALLY think she wants a simple setting like that?" By this point we were in complete shock and very ready to leave and never step foot back in the store, but we saw it through. After about 45 minutes of having to beg to see an example of the ring we came in for, she finally relented after I saw it out of the corner of my eye and made her take it out of the case. Miss Sherry here then said she would only tell my friend the price of the ring if he agreed to buy it there that day. We were astonished that she thought he would make this major of a purchase without even knowing the price! There is nothing you would buy without knowing the price, let alone an engagement ring. After this we were totally out on Genesis. I called the next day to express that we had our hopes high finding a ring at Genesis and were very disappointed and discouraged. The manager then did the same thing Sherry did and promised if we came back in he'd "knock some money off and make it very worth our time." Honestly just the worst experience. We found her a beautiful 2 carat round diamond with a simple 14k gold setting at Jared half a mile down the road. read more

Good quality diamonds but I do not get the same service as I did in Nashville. Nashville genesis was quick to offer to clean my wife's rings as we browsed. They replace small diamonds and make repairs without hesitation. Recently I took a ring for repair and they called to say it was ready. When I got there it was not ready. They did made up for it by kissing wife's butt and replacing a faux stone in two other rings but next time I will probably just go to Nashville where I have made over 60k in purchases over the years. Honestly, I was a little turned off by the low rating when I checked into Genesis Diamonds the first time several weeks back. However, I had a wonderful experience there. This was the 3rd jewelry store Nick and I went to in search of my wedding band. I wasn't looking for anything off the wall, just a simple white gold, plain, curved band. The two jewelry stores (Shane Co. and Gross (we did get my engagement setting at Gross)) prior to visiting Genesis did NOT offer plain bands. Apparently, diamonds truly are a girls best friend because that is all you find anymore on wedding bands. I am talking, the stores did not even have one in the display case. Both stores offered to order one for me, but I am not gonna purchase or order a piece of jewelry without first seeing it. After traveling all around the greater Louisville area, Nick suggested Genesis. Discouraged by the rating, but leaving no other choice, we apprehensively went. I was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted immediately (unlike Shane Co. where we walked around the entire store for 5 minutes with NO acknowledgement.) and were asked what we were looking for. Not only did they have several plain wedding bands to pick from, they also displayed several CURVED, plain wedding bands to look at. We found one that matched up to my engagement ring perfectly. We were able to order it right then and there. The young lady helping us (forgot her name....ugh I am horrible) entered a due date of August 28th to have plenty of time for pick up. On July 28th, my band was ready for pick up. You can imagine my surprise when it was ready an entire month before the due date. We were able to get into Genesis, go straight to the Customer Service desk (eat a few pieces of the mouth-watering chocolate while she gathered paperwork), get a lovely box, velvet bag and cleaning polish for my ring in under 5 minutes time. I am not sure if the precious reviews just experienced a one-off situation, but I have a lovely experience and great interaction. read more

My husband and I went into Genesis Diamonds in the spring of 2015 to take look around . We were considering an upgrade to my wedding set for our 25th Anniversary. There was a big sale going on and the place was buzzing. I had previously been in the store and had my eye on a couple of designer rings but we had no intention of making a purchase that day. Everything changed when I saw a beautiful oval with a halo and asked to try it on. It was the perfect setting with lots of height for my short fingers. It wasn't in the designer section but we discovered it was a Henri Daussi but not a style HD produced in their regular line. It was also the only one like it in Genesis' inventory. I can't remember our sales persons name. I know he could tell we loved the ring but he also knew we were only there to look. Our salesman introduced us to Boaz who was in town from Nashville for the sale. Boaz tells us if we love it we can put it in layaway (what??) with 20% down AND if we do indeed purchase it he would give us 12 months to return with no questions asked. Based on that, we could secure it from selling to someone else while we thought about it. At that point what did we have to lose? After asking them to let us see it out in the natural light we put the money down. Boaz wrote on the receipt "eligible for return up to 12 months" which I later found out was unheard of and was jokingly told "Boaz must have been in a really good mood that day". The reality is he probably knew there was zero chance that such a beautiful ring would coming back. Every few weeks or so I would go in and make a payment but always ask to see it and try it on again. Sometimes I would have a friend tag along to confirm it was as wonderful as I originally thought. It never failed to leave me mesmerized so we paid the balance and and took it home! From that day forward I have received comments and compliments on it nonstop. From friends to strangers it catches everyone's eye! I had never experienced a jewelry store like Genesis with their beautiful designer rings, the vast amount of styles to choose from and the patient sales associates. I later found out there was still more to learn about Genesis long after the sale! Fast forward to September of 2018, I go to put my ring on for the day and it looks like a diamond is missing on the shaft. Upon closer inspection not only is a diamond gone but the gold on the shaft of the ring is split. I immediately take it to Genesis and they tell me they have to send it back to Henri Daussi. When we hear back from HD we are told it will take 8 weeks because they have to completely remake the ring. I'm not going into all the details of the repair but before it was said and done it went back and forth from here to HD in New York four times. I'm not going to deny that my frustration was off the chart but Harold and Eddie at Genesis kept me informed every step of the way. They also contacted HD regularly to keep them on track. I felt like Harold was working for me solely because if I emailed him he responded with lightening speed even if he was off work for the day. Once they asked me to come in to the store and I obliged not really knowing why I was going. To my surprise they informed me they had talked with HD who wanted to offer me a gift due to the repair issue and time it had taken to get the ring remade back to it's original glory. They needed me in store so I could let them know what I would like!! Needless to say when the ring arrived back home the final time it was perfect and there was a very sparkly gift along with it. I always tell my friends they should just go into the store if for nothing else just to look. There is no other jewelry store in our area that compares. Everyone is so friendly and down to earth. And now you know you can leave there knowing they will look out for you long after the sale! read more

I took my then boyfriend based on the good reviews our close friends gave us about Genesis. We went to an event they held last year, and it could not have been more humiliating. We spoke to a woman at the store and initially she was kind, then we asked to look at diamonds, she informed us if we aren't purchasing it that day then she would not be showing us any diamonds. We told her that we just started looking and can't make a decision on the fly for a big purchase. She walked away to "ask someone" in front of us if we can look at diamonds, we sat and waited about 15 minutes and realized that she was stalling and ignoring us. Once we got up she walked over and asked us if there was anything else she can help us with, we said no thank you and left. My fiancé kindly purchased a $30k diamond elsewhere instead. My hubby upgraded my wedding ring and bought my anniversary band from here. I love the selection and I never really realized how much I love the designer rings. They are eye catchers and conversation starters. I stop in every few months to either have them cleaned or re-rhodium my rings. And that is at no cost! The huge benefits they offer is friendly service, prompt turnaround time, and the selection is huge! I have to make myself stay the course, a straight line to back counter from front door and back. They also have special financing too! Usually no interest for a couple years. They have a sitting area and refreshments too! However, if I were to be able to purchase the types of products sold here I would probably give them a shot. My wife and I went there to look for a larger diamond for "one" of her rings. We went expecting to pay the types of prices listed on the web site, but unfortunately, this is a scheme to get you in the store in my opinion. They said you can only buy those diamonds sight unseen; come on who does that? Anyway, we left a little disappointed, but I just chalk it up to a lesson learned.
