I can't say enough great things about Shannon and I truly don't know what we would do without her! First, she is so kind and patient with our dog. We have a rescue who is VERY timid and generally scared of people. Shannon came to our house multiple times in an effort to get Zoey comfortable with her. She was patient with our little one and quickly became one of Zoey's favorite people. Zoey goes insane when she sees Shannon and immediately runs out the door, clearly not sad to leave her mom and dad! I've been meaning to write this quite a while--- I can offer a very unique review of Shannon's walking services. I take my 3 year old Labrador to Fort Funston every weekday morning. For roughly a year, until my schedule changed and required me to get out there at sunrise, I would arrive and/or leave at the same time as Shannon. I became familiar with Shannon and her pack, as we seemed to always run into each other. After 3 years & 5-6 days a week of taking my dog to Funston I've been able to observe many dog walkers at Fort Funston and I can easily say--- Shannon is BY FAR the BEST. Her pack of dogs stays right by her side. They respond to her quickly. They play well with each other and other dogs. She keeps them moving at a quick pace. I've never once witnessed a problem (aggression, not responding to their name, not coming when called) with any of the dogs in her pack. They seem to love her, love the walk and love the pack that they are with. I've never seen Shannon show any kind of anger towards her pack. I've seen other dog walkers scream at their dogs, grab them roughly by the collar and full on loose dogs in their pack. Shannon's pack seems to know that she is boss, but I've witnessed her command as being effective, loving and thoughtful. I've never seen Shannon texting or talking on her cell phone--- and let me say, it's is so sad that I constantly witness dog walkers texting and not watching or interacting with their pack. She is focused on her pack 100%. She always picks up their doo-doo, for lack of a better word. I see dog walkers turn the other way fairly often. Not Shannon. She is right there with her dogs. I just thought this review would be helpful and offer an honest 3rd party perspective. I know that when I have someone watch my dog, I always wish for a sneak peek on what's going on. That's all I'm offering here--- a sneak peek from someone who used to see Shannon's work on a daily basis. Shannon provides regular, active walks for my rescue, Toby, and lovingly takes care of Toby and Chocolate, a Yorkie, when I travel (which is a lot). I have used other sitters and walkers, and I can say there is no one, NO ONE!, who tops the care and activity Shannon provides. How do I know? I watch my dogs - they are always excited to see her, and when they come home after a Fort Funston run or staying at her home, the are calm and happy. I have never had this with any other walker/sitter before. It's unfortunate that an earlier review calls out Chocolate as being one of the dogs not under Shannon's control at Fort Funston. I can tell you, as Chocolate's 'mom' for all his 11 years, this dog loves Shannon, is bonded to her, and because of his advanced years, doesn't always pay attention to where he's supposed to be. He's a terrier, after all. But Shannon knows how to handle him and I trust her completely. My other dog, Toby, is a former street dog that was basically untrainable until Shannon came into his life. He now runs solidly with the pack (well, most of the time) and I know this because Shannon is very up front and honest with me about what my dogs do and where the challenges are. I can't imagine what my life would be without her - she is my lifeline, and when I travel so much, I know my dogs are getting as good of care as I could with Shannon looking after them. Shannon provides a great service for any dog owner who has an active dog who needs to be taken out for an adventure regularly. She does walks at Fort Funston with a small pack and chooses very deliberately which pack would suit your dogs activity level. I like the way Shannon was very careful in screening our dog because I know that means every dog that she handles or accepts to walk went through the same process, assuring me that he is in good hands. Our dog Mowgli loves Shannon. He goes to the beach with her and his doggie buddies every Thursday. It's an activity we can tell he loves, enjoys and when he gets home we know he had a great time and is well exercised because he is exhausted. Shannon does such a great job watching over him, and also updating us about the walk if there is anything we need to know he did that was funny, or unusual, or any behavior she thinks we should try to curb (like our dog wanting to be chased around the car because it can be unsafe for him). She is very professional, keeps us informed through emails or texts about schedules during the rare times there might be a change with the time our dog goes out. I trust Shannon with our most precious little baby dog because she has shown dependability, reliability and professionalism with us but most importantly she's proven to us over the many months that Mowgli is safe and happy while in her charge. read more

Guess what. Shannon is one of the best darned dog walkers out at Ft. Funston. I've known Shannon for 5 years now. She has complete control over her dogs, she couldn't be nicer, has a great attitude. I've used Shannon's services for at least 10 years, regularly, and couldn't give her a higher rating. Like most owners, I love my dogs beyond description and there is nobody I trust trust them with more than Shannon. At various times she has walked them several times a week and boarded them at her house for extended periods. She is a highly skilled walker and knows how to deal out discipline and love in perfect measure so that she has her pack under control when she's out there. Yes, she raises her voice at the dogs. That's one element in the art of controlling them. And if the negative reviewer below has really been coming to Ft. Funston for 10 years like he said, he would know that. It angers me that the negative reviewer implies that she's abusive to her charges. Nothing could be further from the truth. My dogs love Shannon. When they hear even a hint of her voice when I'm walking them myself out at Funston, they're off like a shot to go greet her. She takes extra care with her dogs, and has been a welcome second set of eyes helping to keep watch on my puppies during various medical problems. I've spent a fair amount of money on my dogs over the years. The care I've received from Shannon's services is one of the best values I've received. read more

Shannon has consistently provided excellent and reliable care for our pets. Being Shannon's first client, we have a long history with her. She has cared for both our dogs and cats. Our dogs have ranged in size from a Black Lab down to a Pug mix...usually two dogs at a time. Shannon establishes a pick up schedule for the dogs and arrives when scheduled. If there is going to be any deviation or vacation, she notifies you ahead of time. The walks that she takes the dogs on isn't a 10 minute walk down the street. The dogs are taken to an appropriate area where they are able to run and play. When traveling, the dogs board with her. Shannon treats each pet as if it were her own. She will notify you if she notices something that may need attention. There is never a day that the pets aren't happy to see her! read more

Shannon is awesome. She has been taking my cocker spaniel, Sadie, to Fort Funston for about eight months or so. Sadie is a rescue dog who wasn't very well socialized when I first got her. Since she has been walking with Shannon once a week, her social skills have become much better! Shannon tells me she even has a boyfriend who she makes out with in her truck on the way to the Fort. Shannon is simply the finest dog walker, pet handler and boarder in the Bay Area. I can say this with absolute confidence as she has cared for our cats and two Bull Dogs for many years. We were one of Shannon's first clients many years ago. Her compassion for animals is outstanding. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. She regularly takes the dogs out and checks on the cats when we are not at home. Shannon is very good about letting you know what is going on with your animals--the good and the bad. She has even taken our dog to the vet when he got a foxtail in his nose. I routinely recommend her when I meet people that have dogs and talk about how much exercise they need. Shannon has walked Sophie, my dear Bernese Mountain Dog, for five years. Sophie loves Shannon! The few times I'm home to see Sophie picked up for her day at Funston, I see that Sophie is totally thrilled to see Shannon - she is so excited. Just the mention of the word "Shannon" to Sophie and she is thrilled. Its very unlikely that such devotion could in any way be established between a dog and human if the human was in anyway abusive. If I am at Funston with Sophie and Shannon is spotted even a long distance away, Sophie will run at full speed and join her pals with Shannon; I have to pull Sophie all the way to the car with a leash. I have spied on Shannon a few times as she walked her pack at the Fort. - I followed her at a safe distance and observed. I found nothing wrong with her style and approach. Dogs need discipline and order. They don't do well without an Alpha "dog". Shannon is the alpha "dog" to them. She provides comfort and certainty to her pack. I have no idea what happened with Rob W, at best it was a misunderstanding. However, it is unconscionable to smear someone's livelihood on the basis of an isolated incident. From his tone I would question his integrity over Shannon's. read more

I don't even know how long Shannon has been taking our dog Lucy to the beach, or letting her sleep on her bed. When we travel and Lucy boards with Shannon, we know that Lucy will not miss us one bit. We get home, retrieve her, and she's depressed to be away from the action, and needs to catch up on her rest from all the fun she's been having. Shannon's encounter with the crazy guy at Ft. We feel so grateful to have Shannon take care of our beloved mixed lab adoption dog for the last two years that we have lived in the SF bay area. He absolutely LOVES her, and lives for his weekly walks at Fort Funston with her and his pack. We have boarded him at her place on the occasions when we can't take him with us on trips, and he enjoys himself so much during "his" vacation at her place he seems to barely miss us (sometimes to our slight disappointment upon returning! :)). Shannon is a truly skilled professional when it comes to knowing the dogs, grouping them appropriately together for good pack dynamics, handling them with a good balance of control and freedom on the walks, looking out for their well-being, and most of all, truly loving them all. She even warns us owners of things to look out for such as the emergence of foxtails, the little springtime plants that can cause infections in dogs, and carefully watches the weather and conditions so the dogs stay safe and happy. The one negative review below I believe is unfair and unjustified, and is more a reflection of the angry (for whatever reason of their own) reviewee than on Shannon's professionalism and skill! All I need to see is how our dog literally BOUNCES with exuberance to the door when Shannon arrives, and how happy and relaxed he is after the outings with her! We would only let our baby (dog!) go on outings with someone we truly trusted as a skilled and loving caretaker, and Shannon fits the bill wonderfully! read more

We have used Shannon for 16 years! She took care of our first pair of dogs from puppyhood through to their old age. She now takes care of our two new puppies. We would not even consider using anyone else - Shannon is the next best thing to us (though our pups might switch that around!). Her standard of care and attention to each of our dogs is first class. We love the fact that they board with her in her home and one only has to see the Holiday videos of the dogs opening their presents to know how much love she has for all her "pack". Our schedule is a little hectic but with Shannon, we just don't worry. She is flexible, completely dependable, hard working and professional. And for our pups, she is loving and calm, consistent and in control. Shannon takes pride in providing a safe and fun environment, whether at her home, off leash at the beach or running in the open acres she has access to. In short, the dogs always have a blast. If you are taking the time to read this review, you obviously love your dogs and in writing this review, we would not recommend anyone we didn't think truly cared for, protected and loved all dogs as though they were her own.
