The store is arranged for easy perusal. I found all my favs jazz, soul, vocal female, vocal male and many more. I didn't have much time but I could have looked for hours. I will have to stop back. There were albums for every part of my want lists. Fairly priced with a few bargains. I didn't have time to look through the $2, $5 bins but there were plenty. A great collection of albums for sure.

But cheap doesn't always necessarily mean good - I could always shop for "cheap" at the Walmart bargain bin. What the RG brings to the table is quality records for a price that can't be beat. I was having a conversation about the graveyard with a friend of mine who's really into Jazz; he only has a few places he likes, basically because so few places carry quality Jazz these days. You know how picky those old fans can get. He took me here first. I'm not a Jazz hipster like him, but I do like records - and oh, they have a ton. I snagged quite a bit for very little - some records were as Misi said, literally $1. Even the new releases were inexpensive. I'm accustomed to paying over $20 per record sometimes for that "audiophile grade vinyl" junk. That doesn't seem to happen here unless its rare. So it didn't break the bank. It seems like they have a good rotation of stock going. I can see myself easily coming back at least once a week and not looking at the same old junk over and over again. It's like the thrift shop of records!

This one is smack dab in the middle of a great little downtown area called Royal Oak. Cute shops, walkable, cafes, so I guess I had my hopes high the store owners would know what a prized spot they had, next to Detroit, and one of the few vinyl stores in the area. They'd make a killing with the right stock and atmosphere. Bummer. Mediocre on both fronts. Came to Yelp to see that lots of people feel the same way. They don't seem very interested in embodying the audiophile atmosphere of the classically great vinyl shops. They have the sound blaring nicely. But their stock is bare bones. Almost no used high desirability issues. Their jazz section was the most interesting. But dang, almost nothing you'd find on DisCogs for ten bucks cheaper. The store assistance was just one guy in the back who seemed unapproachable. But really once seeing the stock and prices, there wasn't much to bother him for. Maybe it just doesn't have the high patronage to support a lot of effort especially with high rents for retail spaces. I'm sure it's hard to run a business these days. And then guys like me who have never ran a vinyl store come onto Yelp and leave crappy reviews. It must kinda suck. So I'll just say this place is good. Three stars is good. But someone could invest some money and time and make this a very very popular music store. Someone with money has gotta be living in all these new condos in this town. And vinyl is selling more than in decades. UHF could have a renaissance with some TLC. Maybe I'll return later this year and will see it's a different situation in Summer. I wish them well. Support your local vinyl shops!

They also have a bunch of postcards organized by city/topic that were a lot of fun to rifle through. I took my parents here and my dad, who is notoriously a non-reader, absolutely loved it. The employees were also very nice and helpful. They have a selection of free books at the entrance, none of which were appealing but I appreciated it nonetheless. Prices were a bit higher than they should have been - "nothing books" (by which I mean used paperbacks with nothing noteworthy to them) were around $3-6. Obviously not going to break the bank, but they were the sort of books you could find for a dollar or less at a yard or library sale. One other bummer is that they do have a collection of rare books, but they're housed at a different location. All the titles can be seen on their website, but it's naturally so much more fun to view in person. Overall a cool place, and absolutely worth a visit. Not sure if I'd recommend planning on making a purchase, but if you're a bookstore lover or just a lover of oddities this is a must do.

I think it's best to go with a plan of what you are looking for. It can be overwhelming to just wander around. They have maps available, which is helpful. The staff is very helpful and friendly, and I recommend seeking their expertise if you are looking for something specific. There aren't really places to sit down and relax. This isn't a place where you come to chill for a long time and read through things. This feels like a place where you come with a purpose. It really is special.
