Lazy River on a two man tube.
    Kathy F.

This is such a great place for families. We are three generations spending as much time as we can at this Sunriver complex. My favorite is the Lazy River, my grands love the outdoor slides and the indoor water features. During the pandemic they started a reservation system. It's still happening, but if you're new to the area you may be disappointed to find out that you need pre approved passes. They currently have three two hour sessions. You must arrive an hour before to get a timed pass, along with your SHARQ pass. Only one person needs to wait in line for your entire group. Good luck getting entry into your favorite timeframe.

This place is perfect for families. The food is actually decent (for pool fare) and comes out quickly. The seating area is moderately large so we didn't have to wait long for seating. I love that they have both indoor and outdoor pools and kids areas. The pools are all heated but sometimes it's still a little cold when it's not super warm out. I wish there was a hot tub that kids could go in but I appreciate that they do have an adults only one. My kids really loved the little slide in the outdoor shallow play area (they weren't tall enough for the bigger slides). The lazy river can definitely get way too crowded but it was still very relaxing. The changing rooms were big and clean and nice. For sure a great place to vacation w kids.

Echoing what other reviews have stated: SHARC is expensive. The entry fee is $25 for anyone ages 4 and older. This includes parents who want to supervise their kids, but not get into the water. We've paid $100 in the past for our family of 4 to go and it takes a bit of fun out of the experience. My best tip is to find Sunriver rentals that include free SHARC passes. Many rental houses have 8-10 plastic cards hanging in their houses. Each card is good for one visit per person per day. Ask your rental companies if the houses include passes. SHARC does not allow outside food. I usually load a cooler with food, keep it in my car, and eat lunch at their picnic tables outside of the property. They have free in and out privileges. Their cafe serves burgers, wraps, and salads but I like bringing my own sandwiches, fruit, and drinks. The pool, lazy river, and slide are fun for kids - especially in the heat of summertime. As a parent, I would love if SHARC offered more umbrellas in their lawn space as it is hot and the few umbrellas they do offer are scarce commodities. In sum, SHARC is a great place to cool down. It is the only pool open to the general public at the resort so it's the only game in town. It is expensive, but you can avoid the admission fees if you rent a house with free passes.

Value for money - not so much, but it's convenient and the food is decent. Beer was good. Lots of options for picky eaters.

Here on a family vacation for the holidays, there is no snow this year, so having this indoor pool to pass the time was great. We were the first in for the weekday rec swim time (2p-530p) and found into be clean and warm. The dreaded indoor chlorine smell wasn't bad either. As a bystander, there were ample loungers and benches around the pool to find a spot. The volley net and basketball hoop were up. A fun swirling whirlpool section was popular. The lap pool remained open for open swim, or to distance from the busy play and heavy splash areas once it got busier. The outdoor hot tub was running and steaming for those who wanted to be outside. A small slide for 48" and shorter was also a hot spot. Life jackets were available for free use, and lifeguards were actively patrolling the pools. Rec center also has meeting rooms, living room, café, and full locker rooms. Not to shabby!

I wouldn't recommend buying a house here because of them they are terrible and have surplus every year and never cut a check back to the homeowner and find random things to spend money on. They want even more money for a new recycling center, which got voted down and now they are making the current recycling center more difficult to use so it gets voted in eventually. Overall, the company was spot on: easy booking, great communication (clear guidance on what to wear, where to be, and what to expect), and friendly, professional staff. Everything ran smoothly. That said, the experience itself felt a bit underwhelming for some of us -- particularly those with prior rafting experience. The three main rapids were billed as Class 3, but they felt pretty tame. I never really needed the foot holds while paddling, and the adrenaline just wasn't there. Additionally, the actual time on the water was only about 40 minutes, which felt short. While Sun Country's website does state "Trip Distance: 3 River Miles - Approx. 1.25 Hours," it seems that includes the 15-minute bus ride each way. With five boats in our group, perhaps our group moved faster than typical -- but either way, it would help if Sun Country clarified this more explicitly to set realistic expectations. On the bright side, our guide Dillon was perfect -- upbeat, skilled, and made the trip as fun as possible. He was a total pro and truly enhanced the experience. Jumping in the water always feels amazing and unless you're really concerned about not being able to get pulled back in the boat, you should show off your best back flip or bomb off the side of the boat and enjoy the refreshing dip. In summary: This is a fun, family-friendly rafting trip, especially for first-timers or younger kids. But if you've rafted before and are looking for something more thrilling or substantial, I'd suggest considering one of Sun Country's full-day or multi-day adventures instead. For the $79 per person (plus tip) price tag, it might also be worth weighing other fun options in Bend -- like a round of golf or a great meal.

That extra room makes it feel quieter and more private, and it's probably where we'll book our next stay.
