My son and I have had the good fortune of working with both Lori and Dawn through our local school district and now at 4 Behavior Change. Lori first met my son when he was six years old and just starting kindergarten. She accurately identified his learning and emotional needs, and set up a variety of supports to help him begin to regulate and access learning. Lori knows how to support children like my son who have severe anxiety, a learning disability, attention challenges, and difficulty coping with his disabilities. Her assessments are thorough and she excels at designing effective, practical intervention plans. More recently, Lori and Dawn supported my now fifteen year old son as he struggled to make the transition back to in person learning as a high school freshman after more than a year of distance learning from home. Lori and Dawn reconnected easily with my son, and were able to listen to his concerns and work with him to figure out what he needed to make the return to school. Both Lori and Dawn had an established history with my son which made gaining his trust effortless. They kept the discussions relatable and goal oriented for my teen, and made sure that all needed services and accommodations were provided through his IEP. I am grateful my son has had Lori and Dawn in his corner at different stages of his educational journey.

Fast forward to me now having a 7 month old and Happy Baby is my second home. Prenatal/postnatal classes are great. I did both prenatal boot camp and prenatal yoga but I was a little limited since I had to stop working out. Once I was cleared to work out, I was at some kind of class 4-6 times a week. Being able to bring your baby to class and get to meet other moms is fantastic! The majority of the fitness classes are taught by Lauren, who is an AMAZING teacher. She kicks your butt all while being the most encouraging, empowering teacher ever! Mama classes- I have done the mindful mama class with Khefri and it was such a great resource as a new mom! I also made new mama friends who I have kept in contact with even after our class ended.

You'll be glad you did. Long version: Having a baby for the first time was definitely daunting for us. There were too many what-ifs and unknowns that made us nervous about the whole birthing process. I'm so glad we decided to take Happy Baby's Prepared Childbirth series with Patricia. It was an informative, fun, and confidence-boosting experience. I actually had to convince my husband to go with me: He walked into the first class saying he's there cause I told him to be there (gotta admire the honesty). After the last class, however, he left saying that he was glad I forced him into taking it. (yay me!) The moment my water broke, I was able to apply things that I learned in class that kept me calm and collected(we even went grocery shopping the next day). We were able to check into the hospital mentally and emotionally prepared, even though labor did not pan out as we had planned. We were well educated so we were able to ask about our options (most of which aren't discussed) and feel confident and comfortable with our decisions. By the time I started active labor, my husband was able to use the skills he learned from class to help me through my contractions, so much so that I was able to deliver without an epidural. The support and encouragement that he displayed throughout the whole process just made me fall even more in love with him (cheesy, I know). I can't thank Happy Baby enough for offering the series and everything we learned. I've been recommending this series to all my family and friends who are pregnant or planning to be since I gave birth. So my fellow Yelper, do not hesitate any longer. Take the class and feel empowered like we did.

I interviewed quite a few therapists when looking for the right person for our family. What impresses me about her is her level of commitment, care and desire to help. I came to her not because my children had issues, but because I wanted them to have the tools to deal emotionally that I did not have growing up. My children could not be more different. They have two different perspectives and yet, she is able to see it from their eyes with a level of patience that I do not possess. My daughter is having problems socializing and Hillary is able to speak with her with a level of compassion, kindness, and intelligence that has worked really well for her. In the time that we have worked with Hillary, my daughter has grown in confidence, in her ability to speak cogently and her spark for life. It is wonderful when you see the children that you love so much grow as individuals because they are understanding. It is the same process with my son. He is not as open to counseling as my daughter. But Hillary understands boys since she has raised her own. She has resonated with him. It is a bit more of a process for him, but she was particularly helpful with him on a situation at school and with his sports. She has empathy, speaks with love and we have reaped the rewards of her guidance. Thank you Hillary for an amazing job!

I looked them up and I was admittedly scared by some of the reviews of "neglect" and the place being a "hell on earth." I spoke to the doctor about my concerns, and I'm glad I did. He had said that he had been there himself and said that from what he had seen, the staff did an excellent job caring for their patients. He also mentioned that the people who are upset or dissatisfied were much more likely to leave a review than someone who were satisfied. I'm glad I listened to him. Mom received excellent care there. The staff were genuinely invested in her health, and just treated her as one of their own. I wish I could remember to name all of the wonderful and patient nurses that took care of mom. The nurses: Alyssa, Laura, and and Dr. Price, Dr. Davoudian, as well as Salve Bautista, and a host of others took excellent care of mom. I'm sorry for all of the people who have had horrible times there, but I was there everyday that my mom was there, and saw none of what they are talking about. Thank you to all of the well trained staff who made a difficult time much much smoother. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

1 Star I am writing…read morethis review to warn other families about what my loved one and our family experienced at Kindred Hospital South Bay in Gardena. My loved one was transferred to Kindred because we were told it was a good place for him to recover and regain strength. I trusted that recommendation. Looking back, it is one of the biggest regrets of my life. From the moment he arrived, communication with physicians was nearly impossible. As his advocate and primary caregiver for almost 18 years, I repeatedly asked to speak with the doctor responsible for his care. I asked day after day, but no physician ever came to speak with me. No one clearly explained his treatment plan, what was causing his decline, or what was being done to help him recover. It was not until my loved one was transferred to the ICU and I demanded a meeting with higher-level administration that a physician finally contacted me by phone--even though I was physically present in the facility. No family should have to escalate concerns to administration just to speak with a doctor. While my loved one was there, I watched his condition deteriorate. One of the most alarming issues was the rapid worsening of a severe pressure wound. We were shown photographs taken only days apart, and the progression was shocking. As his family, we repeatedly voiced concerns and felt that our warnings were ignored. As his condition continued to worsen, he began showing signs that deeply concerned us. I repeatedly questioned what was being done, asked for answers, and tried to understand why he was declining so quickly. Instead of feeling supported, I felt dismissed and left in the dark. I became so desperate to get him help that I called 911 twice from inside the facility because I believed his life was in danger. Despite my concerns, getting him transferred to an acute-care hospital became a battle. I spent days arguing, making phone calls, writing letters, filing complaints with health authorities, and advocating for someone who could no longer advocate for himself. After nearly a week of fighting for a transfer, I finally succeeded in getting him moved out of Kindred and into a hospital. There, doctors found multiple serious infections throughout his body, sepsis, and a fungal infection. Three days later, my loved one died. I understand that no one can say with certainty what the outcome would have been if he had received different care or had been transferred sooner. However, I firmly believe that the delays, the lack of physician communication, the failure to address our concerns, and the resistance to transferring him contributed to the suffering he endured before his death. The hardest part is living with the guilt. I trusted that this facility would help him recover. Instead, I spent his final days fighting to get him out. This review is not written out of anger. It is written out of grief, heartbreak, and a desire to protect other families from experiencing what we experienced. If someone you love is being considered for transfer to this facility, my advice is simple: avoid it at all costs. Ask questions. Demand answers. Seek other options. Trust your instincts when something does not feel right. For me and my family, this place was hell. My loved one was sent there to recover. He never came home.
