We started baby sign at 9 months, but our child did not sign back or use speech in any meaningful way. Our pediatrician recommended speech therapy at the 18 month checkup. During our first appointment with Maureen, our child began using the same signs that we were unsuccessful in teaching. Considering that our child is very reserved around new people, this was quite a feat. He started seeing Akiko twice a week, and over the past year, his language skills have improved exponentially. He's now at the point that he can tell us about his day at pre-school and answer questions about his activities. Shoreline has done a phenomenal job with getting my child's speech levels from very limited to a high level. The team is very active and supportive of helping each individual in both a one on one and group setting. My son was in speech therapy for 9 months with no progress at all before we found Shoreline Speech. When we were evaluated by Maureen, who is wonderful, my son was 26 months old and had no words at all, just babbled. He communicated his needs with some sign language. Within a month of twice weekly therapy he had some word approximations. Within 6 months he had 100 words and was putting two words together. He's been there 10 months now and has hundreds of words and is speaking in 3-6 word sentences. He's a chatter box and I love it. Miriam was a miracle worker with getting to know my son and finding what would engage him and Kim is fantastic at helping him with processing and the difficult speech sounds. Before coming to shoreline they were going to Kids In Motion and I was very unhappy. After my son saw what felt like 10 different therapists in one year I pulled him out. My doctor's office referred me to Shoreline and I have never been happier. Eileen the office manager is so lovely and helpful. She made the entire transition seamless. We received an initial evaluation from Maureen who is the owner. Wow she is so knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. One of my kids has been going to shoreline for about 2 years and the other for about a year. They have been seeing Akiko who is the sweetest person on earth. You can see how much she loves the kids and how much she wants to help them. My youngest son had a speech disfluency which Mrs. Akiko has already eliminated completely. She has been working tirelessly with both of them and they have shown drastic improvement. When I thought my oldest had a learning disability Mrs. Maureen spoke to me and told me everything I needed to know. My kids have only seen Mrs. Akiko for speech but as someone who frequents Shoreline I can tell you all the therapists are amazing. I see the interaction between Gene, Patsy and the other therapists with the kids as they are entering and exiting the facility and they are so happy to be there. Parents are also happy. My 7yr old son has been going to Shoreline since February where they identified he needed help in the areas of processing, word recall and semantic skills. From the first meeting I felt everyone at Shoreline genuinely cared about understanding my son's challenges and figuring out the most effective way to help him. I've seen significant improvement in his vocabulary, word recall, ability to express himself and most importantly his confidence! This is pretty amazing considering he only had 1 month of in person sessions and has been doing virtual sessions since March due to Covid. My son has anxiety and doesn't feel comfortable in new environments or with new people yet he quickly bonded with his speech therapist Denise. She has done a phenomenal job with the virtual sessions. She knows how to assess what kind of day he's having and tailor the session to make it fun and engaging while ensuring he progresses towards his treatment goals. Recently he completed comprehensive testing at a different medical clinic and I forwarded the lengthy report to Shoreline as an FYI. Shortly thereafter both the owner (Maureen) and Denise took the initiative and made the time to review it and schedule a meeting with me to share their key takeaways and make solid, action oriented recommendations. I have triplets that were born VERY prematurely, they have had years of speech therapy services through the years. Shoreline has been the first therapy place that not only excels in the quality and expertise my children need, but they also truly CARE for my children. They take extra time to get to know each individual child, instead of a "one size fits all" model. They provide me feedback after each session, as well as provide me with speech "homework" to work on with the kids. The progress they are making is amazing and it translates into their daily life as well as their academic world. We came to Shoreline 2 years ago when my son had just turned 3. He had been getting speech therapy at a different place with little progress. After searching for the best therapist for his condition (CAS), I came across Maureen. From the time I met her at initial evaluation, I knew we were in great hands. I was referred here by my pediatrician since my son was diagnosed with receptive and expressive language delays. We needed specialists who would take the time to sit down and find what worked for him. The help we received from his school seemed ineffective, even though the SLP people were great. My 10 year old son has been going to Shoreline's Act Up and Book Club for the last 2 years. I'm so impressed with how well put their therapy sessions are. For the book club, they design a program for children to practice communication, language with literacy and writing skills. And they pick really great books! The book club allowed my son to be part of a group setting to share his ideas, interact with others and listen and learn. My son has improved so much in his reading comprehension and writing. Now he reads/writes 5 days a week. For Act Up, my son is gaining confidence in expressing himself amongst his peer group in a super fun and kind small group setting. In the beginning, he wouldn't participate in many of the activities. Now he is participating and is so proud of himself because he knows he is good at it.
