Stopped in here during vacation and got a day pass for $10. This is a no frills bodybuilder gym…read moremeant for serious athletes. Lots of average joes there too, but mostly a bunch of gym rat types. This is not a sauna and spa gym. This is a weights, chalk, squat rack and Dumbbells that go up much higher than I can lift (120+). I am a physique competitor so I enjoy the atmosphere, but it is definitely not for everyone and those who prefer a more relaxed comfortable gym will probably not feel quite at home though everyone is very friendly. Hope you like heavy metal hardcore music like korn, godsmack, disturbed, chevelle, alien ant farm, saliva because that is what will be playing during your workout. It wasn't too loud though so didn't mind. Even through I prefer EDM to workout. My friend Jimmy felt it was a pretty hardcore gym and while it wasn't exactly his cup of tea he had a good workout. They have a nice supplement cooler as well with protein, pre workouts, and other supplements. Prices are fair $3-4 for a protein drink, $4 for a pre workout, $2 power bars etc. It was pretty empty in there, it was a bit hot though -- fan cooled on a hot Virginia day is bound to make you sweat. They did have air conditioning though but it was definitely not on full blast. In summary: great no frills gym for serious lifters, and guys who want the "muscle" vibe. I did see on the wall an ad for Zumba and it looked like there was a group exercise studio in the back. So some fit moms may like it here too.

Great gym old school and perfect for a good solid full body workout. Honestly miss more gyms like…read morethis. Worth every dollar I spent ....

Cannot say enough good about this place! I have primarily worked with Emma, and training with her…read morehas been an incredible experience. She's thorough, knowledgeable, and precise in her delivery of both programming and feedback. She provides encouragement where appropriate and maintains a healthy approach to steady incremental improvement. The programing she compiled has been very helpful in meeting my specific training goals, and the collaborative nature of it has felt like a breath of fresh air. On occasion I've worked with some of the other trainers, and they all exhibit the same high degree of professionalism and competence. The only thing I wish was a little different pertains to scheduling. Training sessions are 45 minutes which can feel a little tight depending on the day. And while I do also appreciate their interpersonal and manual methods for schedule changes, the convenience of selecting time slots off an app or website is sometimes hard to beat. That being said, they have always been reasonably accommodating to changes when there is an opening, and their approach also helps keep me more consistent, so I can appreciate that the tradeoffs have their merits. On a separate note, coming from another gym with group fitness classes, the pricing may feel a little steep, but for the level of tailored care and training, I've found them to be competitively priced with similar programs in other cities and a good value proposition. Their facilities are also kept in pristine condition with equipment in excellent working order. If you're searching for a wholistic approach to improving your fitness, look no further!

I'm not getting any younger lol and wanted to enjoy my retirement and be around to see my grandchildren grow up. I immediately felt at ease and welcome there. The one on one personal training in private rooms is a perfect fit for me. I train with Jaron, and I cannot say enough good things about him. He is thoughtful with my training program, adjusting as needed to suit my needs and goals while keeping it challenging. I am amazed at the progress I have made in just 4 months and look forward to future accomplishments. Cheers to many more healthy years!

We appreciate your review, Pamela. Crowded weight rooms can be intimidating and uncomfortable. and that's why we train in PRIVATE rooms.

All activities are scheduled so don't forget to check the ODU web site before venturing over. From the pool to the locker rooms everything is kept neat and clean. I'm not sure if there's a parking lot near this place but I just park at the garage where the parking office is, it should be a 5-10 min walk(Walking with friends talking gossip stuff maybe 20 mins lol). The check-in process was fast, for first-timers, you'll have to go to the desl and they'll show you how to register, as I remember you have to put your hands on the check-in thing 3 times then you're good to go. Well they'll teach you. After that you just have to punch in your UIN then put your hands on the check-in thing then you're good to go. I didn't have time to use the machines but they look amazing and new, and there is a big variety of machines. There's also a track on the secomd floor for people to jog. And there's a swimming pool, a climbing wall(not always open, look for the schedule online), many rooms for classes(some of them are free, look for them online), squash rackets etc. There's a place where you can rent all the equipment to play, I came here to play basketball so I rent a basketball, and it is a Nike. The reason I took one star off is because of the basketball court. Although it is huge and I like how they put a thing to block the farthest court so the intense games on the other side won't worry about us the chill people having our ball rolling into their court, the floor is slippery, which means it is dirty. The floor is also weird because the ball won't bounce back, I guess they are some cheap materials. Overall, it is a good recreation center to workout, especially it's free for students so you cannot ask for more.
