The employee working the front desk between 2:00-3:00 PM on Wednesday, 6/10 was unprofessional and needs to be removed. I called to reschedule my child's appointment and was immediately told there would be a $15 cancellation fee. When I explained that I wasn't canceling, I was given a supposed 4-5 hour notice policy that appears nowhere in their appointment communications. I then asked if there was availability later that day and was told they were fully booked today and tomorrow. After I said I would check online myself, I was abruptly placed on hold without a word. No explanation. Within minutes of checking online, I found multiple openings later that same day and plenty of availability the next day. Customers should not have to fact-check your staff. I was told there was no availability when there clearly was. Call it what you want, but giving customers information that is demonstrably false is unacceptable. As a dad trying to manage a busy schedule, I expect honesty, professionalism, and basic respect. I received none of the above. Love our stylist, Botum, though. We waited 29 minutes before my child was seen for my child's first haircut, which was disappointing. Once we were finally taken back, the stylist Malik did a wonderful job. The first haircut package was a great touch -- we received a certificate, a lock of hair, and a photo, which made the moment special. They also gave us two balloons since my child is too young for lollipops. However, the salon wasn't very clean, with hair all over the floor, and the long wait really took away from the experience. Terrible experience with my daughter's haircut. We requested a simple 1-inch trim with a basic U-shape, but the stylist was rude and dismissive throughout the appointment. What was even more disappointing was the response from the manager. I tried explaining the situation and expected at least some acknowledgment of our poor experience, but instead the manager immediately defended the stylist without showing any concern or empathy. It honestly felt like the staff's behavior reflects the management culture. After reading other Google reviews, it seems this is not an isolated experience and that customer concerns, especially involving kids, are not taken seriously. Took my daughter here for her first haircut today, and the day ended with me crying because her hair is so badly butchered. The store is cute and the stylist was friendly. But I wish she would have asked me to help hold or switch to my daughter sitting in my lap in order to cut her hair better. Instead it felt like a speed run. At the time I didn't realize how bad it was because I think I was feeling a little overwhelmed and trying to be positive. I had asked for us to cut her bangs and the stylist cut a decent amount off her whole head, including the long baby hairs behind her ears that I had been treasuring. I didn't say anything at the time because I am usually a go with the flow type person and the cut was already in progress, but after we got home and her bangs dried it became apparent how truly terrible it looks. There's an entire CHUNK of bangs missing from the middle of her forehead. My family couldn't even lie to my face when I asked them to reassure me that it wasn't that bad. I am so embarrassed for her, and upset that this is how she'll look for her birthday and summer vacations. read more

Not a great experience for my son's first haircut. I didn't grab the stylist name but she started cutting the second my son sat down. There was almost zero discussion to myself and even less to my son. He started crying but didn't allow me any time to assess how to confirm him as she just cut faster. I had to ask her to stop cutting the back as it was sloppy and butchered. Rather than trying to go fast just to 'complete' the cut, I wish she let us switch and have him sit on my lap or something. It's hair, it grows back. I'm not disregarding that. I just wish his (and my) first haircut experience was better. We, unfortunately, will not be back. read more

Today was my first time at Sharkey's. My nephew was getting his very first haircut today. He is 3 years old. The whole family came to experience this moment with him. His hairdresser's name was Ava. As you walk in, you are greeted right away. The place is very clean, and a phenomenal place for kids. Ava was absolutely amazing. Since it was my nephews first haircut, it was very new to him, he was wiggling everywhere and trying not to get the haircut. But Ava was very professional, very loving, and she was very careful. She was so caring not only to my nephew but to allll of us. She went out of her way to carefully cut his hair. She bought treats (lollipops) to help make it a safe, friendly place for him, she also had toys to give him to play with. She gave him a yellow balloon which he loved. She put on his favorite Disney show and she was just amazing. We are so thankful for her and she seriously did a phenomenal job today. My sister, her hubby, me and my hubby are so thankful for her. Sharkey's is an amazing place to bring your child for their haircut experiences. My nephew also got a certificate and was able to keep a little bit of his cut hair in a bag. My daughter absolutely loves Sharkey's. We recently got a cut with Malek and she was fabulous. She made sure that my daughter was comfortable with each part of what was happening, and managed an adorable cut even with my notoriously squirmy daughter. The price is a little more than I'd love to pay for a child's haircut, but they make the experience worth it. With the price comes not just the wash, cut, and style but nails, a balloon, little rings, a lollipop, etc. so they make the experience worth it for even the kids who hate people touching their heads (like my kid). Took the kid's here twice for fresh cuts and will continue to return! Pro's -able to book online (highly recommend, the place does take walk in's but it gets busy) -all prices and packages are posted on their website -place is bright and clean. The space is split between two areas. One for smaller kids where they can sit in themed fun chairs. The other side is for big kids with video games and Netflix -my son (8 years) loves to get his cut here. He gets to play Xbox (rocket league, minecraft etc.) and my daughter (5 years) gets to watch her movies -I usually show our stylists what type of cut they both prefer and most of the time they succeed. My daughter received a nice cut and blow dry. The package came with a nail polish color session but her nails were already painted. I thought it was a nice touch to make her feel like she was at a true salon. -check in and out is easy with the pad at the counter -they have fun little toys and hair accessories for purchase -free balloons and lollipops are always offered after their cuts -services are always friendly -shopping center has plenty of parking with a few restaurants nearby. Kiddo was inspired by Namaari (from Raya & the Last Dragon) to get an angled bob on one side & shave on the other, but other kid-focused salons we've tried refused to do any shaving on a girl's head. This time we brought a few example photos of exactly what she envisioned to prove she understood the intended outcome. At the second, more recent experience, the shampoo was obviously uncomfortable for my daughter and even when I tried to intervene, no adjustments were made. During the haircut, the direction for my child to move her head was rough, and often manual. Was my kid squirmy and trying to watch the built in TVs and play with the car? Sure. But again, this felt different than previous haircuts at this and other locations. I think we'll be finding a new place for haircuts. read more

We ended up with a different stylist than originally requested, but she did a great job with his haircut and was very accommodating trying to make him feel comfortable. I feel conflicted about this review. Service is excellent. Everyone is so nice and the quality of the haircuts are great for little ones. The place itself is very kid friendly for both very little kids and school aged kids. However, the boys and girls kids haircuts are the same price, yet getting nails painting is only included for girls. My son likes getting his nails painted (at home we do this all together with his sister) and it should not be an extra $7 just because he's a boy. Feels very gender discriminatory to me. Love this place and wish they would change this policy. Especially considering there are probably few boys who do this they should really promote equality in services. read more

This was a completely traumatic experience for my daughter. They gave her bangs without asking! She's 7, has never had bangs, and definitely didn't ask for them. We were both specific that she only wanted a trim. The hairdresser never asked about bangs, and then after the fact showed me the 4-5 inch segment she cut, dramatically different than the rest of my daughter's long hair that had maybe an inch cut off. My daughter was in tears, saying she looked weird and there was no care from this hairdresser to address it or anything. To top it all off, she didn't blow dry her even halfway and only painted her nails after another hairdresser told her she had to. And I still had to pay for it! Worst experience! read more

Not great experience for us; beginning with the stylist looking at me with scorn and asking "who cuts YOUR hair?" This was my daughters first professional cut and it reminds me why I tend to avoid stylists. The stylist (malek) did not engage with her in any meaningful way and kind of just gruffly yelled at her to hold still. Of course she was wiggling, she just turned 3. When we finally got to the end, I told her my little one wouldn't like the blow dryer. She did it anyways and when my kid loudly and clearly stated she did not like it, please stop, she continued. Until I told her, twice, to stop. She did paint my daughters nails, but even with that she was super grumpy and when my 3 yo bumped a nail on the dryer she literally moaned, loudly, and cried Oh NO, very loudly. Not the way to handle things with a toddler. Then their credit card machine wouldn't work and she acted like it was my fault, even though it was clearly not connected correctly. (Because it said so.). I wound up having to finally pay cash. And my daughters bangs are literally standing straight up now. We will try another salon. Maybe it's just this stylist since so many other people have had positive experiences. read more
