I was really excited when reaching out to Sharon as she has stellar reviews and the photos of her brides look great! And I'm sure she is great at what she does, but I would never call her communication skills professional. I asked if she's available on my date after a last minute cancellation from my original artist, she said she'd be happy to help and offered hair and makeup trials. She asked for my inspiration photos, so I sent a few. They were models with simple curls, earth tone eye makeup, cheekbone highlights, nothing too crazy. She responded with "all of these are models with 1/2 lb makeup on ;)" Yes, of course I knew they were models, but I wasn't asking for magic, just sharing hair styles and eye makeup colors I like. And when I followed up with this she didn't respond for a week. When she did, she called me the wrong name, her message was acting like we had never spoken before, and said she's booked on my date after saying she was available originally. Sharon was an absolute pleasure to work with from the moment I first contacted her for a trial through my wedding day. The trial was easy to set up. We found a weekend morning in February to meet up at her Lower East Side space, where Jenna joined us to work on my hair. It looked perfect--it was exactly what I envisioned. Sharon and Jenna were sure to take lots of pictures so they could recreate the look seven months later. On my wedding day, we had Sharon, Jenna and one other person on hair for six people (including me) getting makeup done and seven people (including me) for hair. The team had military precision. i haven't felt so beautiful in years, i tell you. YEARS. as a working musician i've had my makeup professionally done several times and sharon was by far one of the best experiences i've ever had and there's a few reasons why: 1.) she's so calm and gentle and reassuring while you're in her chair. having your make up done can be stressful sometimes, you can feel poked and prodded and like you don't know how to close your eye or open your mouth the right way. not with sharon. not only did she have a gentle touch, she also made me feel like *i* was doing a good job of just being her canvas. 2.) she listens to what you want her to do. i had an idea of what i wanted and i have a specific thing i don't like, she totally got that and the end result was exactly what i was after. she didn't have an agenda to push on me. 3.) her products must be great for sensitive skin/hypoallergenic. we didn't talk about this beforehand but i'm slightly allergic to basically everything. i don't break out in hives or anything, my eyes and nose just get runny and i'll have angry skin the next few days after using a product that annoys it, which is to say most products. welp, it's the day after today and my skin looks great! not only were my eyes not crazy watery like usual during the application but i'm not having the day-after freak out i've become accustomed to. 4.) it's got stay power. i took a selfie when i got home 8 hours after application. it looks the same as when i walked out of her adorable in-home studio. she's just great, friends. she'll make you comfortable, she'll make you beautiful (i'm sure you already are, but, you know what i mean.) i didn't use her for my wedding (i wish i knew her then!) but i always felt that the person who does your wedding makeup and your wedding photography should be someone who makes you feel good and sharon is definitely that! i couldn't recommend her more. read more
