I can't say enough great things about my experience with Lucy and my wedding hair and makeup trial. For months I was undecided on what look I wanted and really spent hours stressing over it. I didnt want "natural" nor did I want un-natural. I was having a hard time with the updos because I have long hair and never wear my hair up. Don't avoid reading the few bad reviews on here. I had overlooked them as a few angry and irrational clients, but after dealing with this company I'm inclined to think they may be legitimate complaints. I had after booked a makeup/hair trial and wedding appointment on Monday. All of the emails (confirmation and payment reminders) went to my spam folder. Within 2.5 days, I received an email that my bookings were canceled with no opportunity to pay, which I gladly would have done had someone reached out. I have worked in client service for a decade and I completely understand the need to secure an appointment in advance. That said, I would have expected a direct email before my appointment was canceled. I would recommend sending an actual email first, as automated emails often go to spam. Further, you never know what else is going on in someone's life (e.g I've been unwell and in and out of the hospital for months now) and to cancel after not even three days without warning is upsetting and unprofessional. The response was friendly enough but defensive (as you can also see in some previous review replies). Anyone working with clients knows that a defensive response can only damage reputation. read more

Loved my wedding hair and make-up! As someone who is half black and half Native American, I have A LOT of hair (down to the middle of my back and very curly). It can seem daunting to even the most skilled hair stylists. Lucy was able to tackle it without a sweat, I was very pleasantly surprised at her skill and confidence. She was able to work within our budget and was very easy to work with! Loved her personality and you can tell she loves what she does. Did I mention I loved my hair! Only had to do one trial to know she was the one! Also she was able to do the hair of two of my bridesmaids and my mother. They all loved their hair as well. For my makeup she was able to look at the picture and perfectly replicate it. Not too much make up or cake-y and not too light. I booked a trial with Miss Harlequin for hair and make-up to assess if it was a good fit for my wedding. The communication up to the trial was good. However, the day of the trial is where it went downhill. I received a text in the AM asking if I was available to meet a half hour - hour earlier than the time I booked. Being that it was a workday, I was unable to do so and I communicated accordingly. I was then told the artist had a hard stop after 2 hours and when I asked why this wasn't communicated beforehand, I was told she just found out the day of. I expressed concern at the lack of communication, and was then told 2 hours "should" be enough time but that they didn't want me to feel "rushed". I consulted with a few girlfriends who just went through trials who told me 2 hours for hair and makeup for 2 looks is not possible. Given that this trial was $400, I expect to get what I pay for, which is professional and accurate communication with ample time to do hair and makeup. I can't speak on their work given that they cancelled the trial and refunded me, but the communication and customer service the day of was poor. I wanted to express this in case others have a similar dilemma with fitting trials into work days! read more

I had a great experience with Lucy and Miss Harlequin! I made a pretty last minute decision to have hair and makeup done, and Lucy offered flexibility when scheduling my trial (even letting me reschedule when I got sick). I worked with Alicia who was so nice and fun to chat with, and who really put a lot of time and care into helping me find my look and asking me guiding questions along the way to make sure I felt good about everything. Throughout the process Lucy was super responsive via email and even put together a time table for getting ready, which she didn't mind changing multiple times on my request. I think my only wish is that my tiara was a little tighter to my head on wedding day. It was super anchored in for my trial and I think the only reason it was a little loose is because we were a little short on time. It was really important to me that my eyeliner was correct, and Alicia NAILED it, so I was happy to spend our time on that. What's also great is that the Miss Harlequin artists are trained in both hair and makeup, so you don't have to have a ton of minimum services booked to just take care of a few people. She was such a joy to work with and I absolutely adore the look she created for me. She's super friendly and extremely professional. The day of, she was punctual and prepared with all her tools. Her artistic talents really shined through when it came time for my hair. I showed her a photo of this long, wavy look I was considering. She took one look at my dress and convinced me to go with a side swept updo instead to show off the neckline of my dress. I'm glad I trusted her because the finished look is fabulous and perfect, but I would have never considered it on my own. She also suggested I try adding individual false lashes when I mentioned that I wanted my eyes to stand out but I have short, thin lashes. Again, Miss Harlequin knows best! Already filed formal complaint to consumer protection bureau for such predatory, abusive and dishonest business practice. Update: the owner response is purely unintelligent and illogical. The makeup and hair services provided was based on the engagement package which is what I wanted because it was not the proper wedding ceremony and truly was for our engagement photoshoot. We just decided to sign the legal paper on the same day and I was nice enough to share that information after the person already finished my makeup and hair. My wedding was held 6 months afterwards and I hired a true professional crew who did makeup and hair for my entire wedding party! Pls explain to me why I have to pay more while did not receive anything extra?! If the owner has one ounce of brain cell/intelligent, she will not accuse me of trying to deceive and get lower price for more services provided?! That simply did not happen. Lucy is an amazingly talented wedding makeup artist/hair stylist, and for her quality of work, you literally cannot find a better deal in the city! I got married on May 20th at 3 West, and I did a lot of research for each of my vendors - I contacted around 10 makeup artists. Lucy had the best reviews, the most reasonable pricing (especially for airbrush), and the all-in-one versatility that I needed (a lot of people either do makeup or hair but not both). She came with 2 other girls for myself, my mother / mother-in-law, and 4 bridesmaids about 4 hours before when I needed to be ready by. It was such a pleasure working with her and hearing about her fun career / her own amazing wedding (seriously ask her about it, she's sooo cool) that the time just flew by.
