Time flies when you're having fun type thing. I think it's one of the best values for kids party places in the area. In addition to hosting parties, Wolves Den has large pickleball and soccer courts. There's an indoor cafe with a liquor license that overlooks the pickleball court. Food was delicious. There are often craft fairs hosted in Wolves Den as well. The space is much larger than it appears from the outside.

It's good for what it is, what with free parking, and only a couple…read moredollars for entrance fee. game tickets is where they get you, to a point that I don't even know why entrance fee is charged. some games as fun, some are lame (and shorter than last year, namely the carousel)...but I guess it's operator-dependent. some games do not accept tickets, thus require additional cash. again, not sure why we need to pay a couple dollars just to get in when there's nothing you can do inside without paying more cash. but it's got a little bit of everything - bungy bounce (extra cash), zoo petting (feeds extra), prize games (extra cash), variety of things taking 1-3 tickets per ride. Tickets are about ... hmmm i don't want to misquote but i can't seem to recall. but i remember you don't get a "discount" for buying more, they're all at the same rate. you just save trips to the ticket counter and time spent on waiting in line (if any). cute for a once a year thing. appreciates that it's there. have to pick the right time to go to avoid lines and crowds.

I played the Country Club of Halifax with a friend this weekend. Overall, the course was in fine…read moreshape. However: Pace of play was terribly SLOW. One the 10 hole, the group in front of ADDED PLAYERS and split into two groups. The much slower playing four wives in front of the foursome of men. No rangers on the course. Zero oversight. Beer cart is CASH ONLY. Evidently, the owner is a clueless guy that inherited the golf course. He separated the restaurant from the club as running a restaurant proved too difficult for him. Neither my friend or I were carrying cash. No cold beverages for us. Again, the course is terrific. But the management, or lack of, is really killing the place. The owner should sell to someone that knows how to run a course. Too many second generation business owners are spoiled kids that don't have a work ethic. This seems like one of those places.

I hate writing this review. I went wanting to love it. And I did for several weeks. Most of the…read morefolks who go are great, welcoming, and just want to play chess. But the leadership of the club is toxic. I was warned in advance about this but thought surely there was a misunderstanding. Some friends of mine -- well respected in the local chess community and generally pretty mild mannered -- all found themselves banned by the leader of the club, Michael. The people he described didn't at all align with the people I knew, but sometimes people have misunderstandings. I figured that's what happened and hoped over time maybe I could better understand the conflict that had occurred and soften hurt feelings on both sides. And the first month or so I was attending went great! Until one evening at 11pm I got a novel of a Facebook message from the head of the club telling me how unsportsmanlike and rude I was. The reason? I apparently took my first game with him too seriously, I should have been grateful he was even willing to play with me since I was so low rated, and I allegedly disrespected him by taking a photo of the board rather than shake his hand. This despite the fact that he awkwardly offered a handshake a minute after we said good game and discussed alternate lines and *in the middle* of me taking the photo and withdrawing his hand and storming away before I could accept. Was I supposed to follow him to track down the handshake? Maybe. But I was still kind of confused from the fact he had resigned at all because the position was even / he was slightly ahead. Nevertheless I tried to acknowledge his position and apologize for offending him -- that was never my intent -- but this made him more angry because I tried to explain, like adults, what my intent was and the possible miscommunication. He repeatedly insisted that I was missing the opportunity to "learn from" his sage advice and simply acknowledge my wrongdoing. Throughout our interaction he repeatedly informed me that the game was casual (I know) and that he was doing me a favor even playing with me (this after he said he'd play in five minutes and then left me waiting for two hours, including choosing to play other players before me). He could have just said no, but he chose the after club Facebook message instead. For the audacity of trying to smooth things over and not apologizing obediently enough, I was suspended from the club for two weeks (he was doing me a favor of *only* suspending me because I had been a model club member up until this point). Oh, and then he got mad that I was *too positive* He then canceled the club for 3/4 weeks and I missed one week due to illness and one week because he decided to passive-aggressively post about our dispute on Facebook and I didn't feel comfortable returning that week and thought I'd give it more time. Then out of the blue I receive a new message from him assuming I chose not to ever return (I hadn't made that choice), and telling me he had heard new information from others in the club that as a formality he was letting me know I was no longer welcome back. He removed me from the Facebook page from the club as well. A couple of other notes: - He changes the norms/expectations of the club week over week and gets mad when people don't psychically intuit them. - He offers unlawful "free expert lessons" but only to female attendees. He then brags about how women would not be successful at the club or consider attending without his free tutelage. - He aggressively solicits Yelp reviews (here's one, Michael) to try to drum up the image of his club, but is surprised when Yelp flags them as spam. - He refuses to have conversations about conflict in person like an adult, instead choosing to be a keyboard warrior (something he does across social media platforms. IYKYK) - He misrepresents his ELO by several hundred points to establish dominance, and when someone outplays his expectations and holds him to a draw or a loss he lashes out and fabricates an entire backstory and motivation. I'm tempted to post the Facebook screen grabs of our conversations but I won't do it here. Just know there are better chess clubs out there if you're looking for them. What a shame. *Edit to respond to Michael's comment: no one has ever said anything to me about unwanted or "intrusive" contact. Also, my suspension from the club doesn't prohibit me from speaking to people. That's not how this works. If it was truly a vengeance review, I'd share all of your reddit posts insulting people for being poor, complaining about Lunar New Year being celebrated as a school holiday, or going off on religious people (despite hosting your club in a church!)

The events are fun, the beer is incredible, and food vendors hit all of the cravings you might have when it comes to German festivals. Oktoberfest is the biggest event of the year and Weihnachtsmarkt in December is on point.
