Wow honestly I have no words for how clean & kind this hospital is. The last time I went to a hospital I was 15 with a fractured pelvis, and the hospital( tri city) was so ghetto & the whole experience just left me traumatized & afraid to ever go to the ER again. The moment I checked in they were so kind & attentive as I told them I was attacked by a stranger at night & suffered head injuries. Everyone was just so sweet & great at holding conversations. They were very empathetic with my situation & took down details of my assault. I was in & out in a timely manner & it was just great, because I was so reluctant in going to the ER in the first place. 10/10 I recommend ! read more

I have been to Coronado hospital a few times recently. Each time there are staff that go above and beyond. This time the valet parking guy was so especially kind I feel the need to recognize him here. The valet parking isn't really meant for the ER but I was feeling awful sick I drove up asking about the price as I had no money on me. Sam was so kind he jumped to my aid told me not to worry and swiftly took care of my vehicle so I could get right in to see the doctor how kind he was thank you Sam for a great customer experience you made my day better! read more

This was a while ago, but it really bothers me and I never heard back after complaining. In about 2014 I went here with severe abdominal pain. I was told it was possibly ovarian cysts. I knew it was not because I have had those before and the pain was different. I was given an internal ultrasound, told nothing was found and sent home with pain killers. Next day, my mom calls them to tell them I am still in pain and asks if she can bring me back. They said NO. She then took me to Scripps Chula Vista where I was promptly diagnosed with APPENDICITIS and in emergency surgery within the hour. I called to complain and never heard back. I would like an apology and acknowledgement that this is ridiculous. Previous experiences (many over years) were bad but not this bad. One time I went and told them that I coughed and felt my rib crack. They laughed at me, gave me a x-ray, said I was fine and sent me home. Next day, they called and confirmed it was a broken rib. We had an obviously stressful situation but the staff were friendly and knowledgeable with good bedside manner. I was fully confident leaving my husband in the hospital while I had to leave to take care of my children. My husband had a total knee replacement here last week. We live in North County but Kaiser has a contract for orthopedics with this hospital. They do a LOT of ortho. I used to work as a financial manager for a chain of physical rehab hospitals and the nursing and PT staff really impressed me here. Everyone was really nice and my husband only had issues with one staff member. the only issue is that their WIFI is horrible as is there family/waiting area computer. Need some tech support here! An it is never ever packed I love it they take us I'm right away they check my daughters ears and they help us with everything. I checked into the ER mainly because I thought I was dying of covid. The actual treatment was fine, the Dr. was nice but busy. The nurse hooked me up to the IV port thing with no pain. I was in a crappy chair outside in the parking lot for 2+ hours accompanied by several gentlemen in handcuffs...I didn't ask, but hey, I needed help. The treatment helped and I've turned the corner and am on the road to recovery. Treatment - 3 -stars Payment/billing - 0.0 stars. Abysmal. Below is what my Cigna plan says. I verified that I had the coverage needed for this to apply. While outside hooked up to an IV and full of drugs, the hospital told I owed them $4900+ of a $7k bill. Stay classy San Diego. They told me this is what I owed so I payed it. When I pointed out that Cigna was covering Covid treatment & testing 100% (see below) the guy told me I had to wait 48 hours for the 'bill to generate' and to call in and get the charge reversed. I called in within the 24 hours and was told it was taken care of. When the charge wasn't reversed, I called back and was given the 100% runaround. Several billing coordinators, supervisors and no stories that matched the prior one given by the ER. They tried to tell me I had to call within 24 hours (which I did) then the story was there was no way to reverse it, again not what the guy in the ER said. Healthcare bureaucracy at its worst. Oh and yes, I'm kinda sick and dealing with your untrained, billing team. Great work. Comedy of billing errors. Will it get resolved? Time will tell, but the billing team here are dicks and have zero empathy for others or responsibility for their teams incompetence. My experience on 3/16/20 left me in tears, well actually, bawling. I had been experiencing Covid-19 like symptoms for weeks with no relief. My doctor had already done a full blood panel and tested me for mono, strep, and flu. My doctor's office did not have tests so I was referred to go to an emergency room. I arrived at Sharp and waited at least 2 hours before being seen by a doctor. This wouldn't have bothered me except for someone with the same concern of Covid-19 that got there an hour after me was seen first. While waiting I was tested (for the third time at that point) for strep and the flu. What do you know, they came back negative! My doctor had already done the rapid and culture tests. I was finally seen by a doctor for maybe a full 5 minutes before a nurse came in with my discharge papers asking for my signature. Upon looking over the papers I realized my concerns hadn't been addressed and I wanted a re-assessment. I let the nurse know it was not her fault but I wasn't going to sign the papers for a visit I didn't feel was complete. The nurse proceeded to tell me, and I quote, "I don't care if you sign, the doctor has already discharged you from the system." She first lied and told me no other doctors were available until I told her I had seen another one and was able to name him. She hesitated before leaving the room and returning with the other doctor. I was happy when I saw him but he said if I want a reassessment I need to go back and join the waitlist again and I'd be charged for a second visit. ER bills are disgracefully large as is, let alone could I afford a second one. As soon as the words "I can't afford that" slipped my mouth he instantly turned and walked away. By then I was so frustrated I walked out and sat in my car crying. I was shocked at the lack of empathy from people who are in the business of taking care of others. I wasn't taken seriously and feel like I was just another number. The service here seriously needs re-evaluated, I will avoid Sharp facilities from now on. read more

I recently had surgery here on Valentine's Day I was blown away with how sweet and caring the staff was. I'm so happy I had my surgery here. I want to thank the nurses Maureen right when I got out of surgery took care of me like a mother does her child and Patrick my nurses aide was helpful as well. Mercedes was the most helpful and caring thousand thanks. She took care of me two nights in a row I'm forever thankful for her being my nurse she took very well of me checked on me constantly and cared to cheer me up. Olga was very sweet and helped me get out of bed & Esmeralda. Caroline and Maritza very attentive hearing all my needs. Priscilla and Isa my discharge nurses helped me have a smooth way out and took care of some issues before I left with my meds. I had the greatest staff of nurses here thank you so much. I've been having massage weekly at the Coronado Hospital's "health living" department. While I normally have Craig, I also have had 3 of the others as well. ALL of them are wonderful. I have a slight preference for Craig because I like a nice face massage as my "treat" at the end, and Craig does them better than the others. Very reasonably priced massages. read more

The one on one training has helped me gain confidence and I was able to get back to doing my activities. I was coming off an injury and had PT with Sherry and she recommended working with a trainer to get back in shape. Had to go to the emergency room early on a Saturday night for a cat bite that was beginning to swell and hurt. The staff there was so efficient and kind; especially nurse Aaron. I had a previous incident with a cat bite that became infected and required surgery so I was feeling pretty anxious this time. Aaron was friendly and funny and that definitely helped me to feel better. After a consultation with the doctor I was given antibiotics and a prescription along with discharge and follow up instructions. Seems odd to review an emergency room but good to know there is excellent care so close. read more

Let me first premise this by stating, I am a 61 year old that has never had surgery in my life, so yes i was quite a bit nervous about having to go for emergency surgery at Sharp Coronado Hospital. But from the moment arrived I was treated with care and compassion from the entire staff there. Seeing the amount of pain I was in they never had me waiting, and number goal was to alleviate it. Cannot say enough about the Doctors and Nurses that cared for me. Let me know every step of what was going to happen. Received superb care here, despite the long ( and I do mean LONG wait to get an available bed. Unfortunately, there are no actual rooms ( unlike UCSD Med Center ) but curtains instead. That being said, the staff here are all above and beyond :) I came to the ER for dehydration due to my struggles with an eating disorder, and was given IV fluids. The staff here really do care, even if they are busy at times ( Obviously, it IS an emergency room after all ). Not the best place to be, but if you have the choice, request to be taken here. :) read more

My neighbor just had same horrible experience with same ER dr!!!!! So did the girl at the local barista. Maybe this 'dr' needs a vacation and up to date training. **That's what Sharp and my medical team feel. She is way behind the times and has a nasty flippant attitude perhaps because she feels inadequate and in over her head. *She put me in a life threatening situation with not giving 2 shits about my condition. I would like to be reimbursed for ER cost, to be honest. Tylenol doesnt cure high and over normal range lab results or brain encephalitis coupled with major sinus issues with polyps.
