What a great experience. The owner and expert on all the sharp things did a wonderful job on my knives and the turn around was fast! Her word of the day is always safety (necessary and appropriate!). I had brought my knives into her shop wrapped in paper and she instructed me to bring a couple towels for pickup. I'm in the market for new kitchen sheers and garden clippers and She also gave me advice on what to look for and a few brands that she prefers organized by price range! I really appreciated that because I'm trying to buy better quality that will last me forever. Highly recommend this business. I'll definitely be back. I very much appreciate their honesty ... I brought my garden clippers to the farmer's market because they just weren't cutting like they used to. THIS IS AN UPDATED REVIEW! Let me start by saying this would be a four star review after my conversation with the woman who I will refer to as the "Knife whisperer." After the usual safety briefing about how my newly sharpened knives needed to be washed before using, how they are extremely sharp and how failure to handle the knives carefully might result in the spilling of blood, she asked for a four star review (We were joking about reviews in general, she was not seriously asking for one.) I cannot in all good conscience give Sharpening4u anything less than 5 stars. The Farmers Market drop off is super fast, as is the Sandy Blvd location. My biggest suggestion is LISTEN TO WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. My knives are extremely sharp and ready to cut whatever I need cutting for cooking. I brought three kitchen knives in to be sharpened a few months ago, and got them back 2 hours later at a cost of $20. The lady who helped me (I believe the owner?) was very kind and efficient, and made it clear to me within seconds of coming in that knifes reside within her wheelhouse. She also gave me a quick overview on how to hone a blade, making it seem a lot less intimidating than I had thought. Stupid me. I attempted to sharpen my kitchen scissors using a sharpener that I use - and use successfully - for my kitchen knives. Only after I made this attempt - and discovered the folly of my ways - did I read the instructions only to find out that the ONE thing I wasn't supposed to try to sharpen was...kitchen scissors. Head hung low, I Yelped a bit. I shouldn't have even bothered. We'd taken garden implements to Sharpening4U in the past and been very happy with the results. So, on a Covid-19 shortened day, I drove up to bring my scissors to their storefront. With a plague-shortened timeframe, I didn't have high expectations of turnaround time. Instead, I had a pleasant conversation with Harmonie, explaining my stupidity, accepting her gentle but firm chastising about my errors, and spending the few minutes it took to correct and sharpen my scissors. $5 later, all is well. I always wait too long to get my knives sharpened. You shouldn't have to 'saw' with a sharp knife. It should slice through something "like butter". I brought in two chef knives. After emptying out our storage unit and moving into our home in Camas, we found our block of kitchen knives that we loved and use regularly only to find the knives had become quite dull. They sharpened everything and even gave a few knives back after looking at them noting "these knives look like they're seldom used". Honesty is hard to find, and although those blades only would have cost about $4 each, I appreciated them being honest with me. They had all 10 knives back to my about 2 hours later and they are SCARY SHARP. They don't mess around and are true masters of their craft. After figuring out that we should have our knives serviced as it wasn't cutting a TOMATO, we looked up on our trusty YELP app and found Sharpening4U. Located across town, we live in the Tanasbourne area, we made the trek for a same day service sharpening (if they receive the knives before 2 and not out of the realm of their list lawnmower blades, etc, assuming bigger items). Figured we could yelp our way to a nearby bar. An hour later, our 3 knives were sharpened and the cost was not too bad enough to be mindful that we should get these knives serviced in another six months. My push reel lawnmower was WAY overdue for blade sharpening, so I did a search for someone who could do the job. I was delighted to learn that Sharpening4u offered this service--it's near our home, and I'd run/biked/driven past it a thousand times, yet somehow never knew they sharpened mower blades as well as other stuff. They did a first-rate job sharpening my mower's blades and also replacing the grease inside the mower, which hadn't even occurred to me. Price was very reasonable. This shop is conveniently located on NE Sandy, near our gym, so I took three or four kitchen knives in for sharpening. Harmonie is a delight. When I dropped off the knives and one hatchet the owner so nice and pleasant but on return she was so different what happened in 3 days? She was very rude very blundt and had a attitude because I used a debit card and I was shocked she had a sign saying she hate using debit machine. Had an excellent experience getting my knives sharpened. I brought the knives in a block and Harmonie provided thoughtful tips to improve my knife storage technique and minimize premature dulling of the knives. I was able to go in for same day pickup and she demo'ed them cutting through paper. Knives were sharp and wrapped in a towel I brought at Harmonie's suggestion so she wasn't putting dirty knives in a knife block that can't be cleaned. We brought our knives all the way from Southern California to be sharpened here. It was actually more convenient for us to do this while visiting family in Portland than taking to a place near home. We took our knives in around 11 am and they were ready for us before 2 pm. I tested a couple out that evening chopping some veggies and boy are they sharp. I also had 3 pair of Gingher sewing shears and one rotary blade sharpened here, but I can't test those until I get home. Based on how great our knives turned out I'm sure they will be really sharp, too. I had 11 knives, 3 scissors and 1 rotary blade sharpened for under $60. read more

I took in a pair of sewing scissors and pinking shears. They were both in ok shape, but they are now SO sharp. Using the scissors is like cutting through butter. Harmonie had helpful tips for using both pair of scissors to preserve their sharp edges. And the prices here are incredibly affordable - $13 for both pair. Harmonie said they could have the scissors ready to go in 3 hours!! Very quick! Sharpening4u does accept credit/debit cards, but there is a sign up saying they prefer cash. First, the good. My lawn mower blade was somewhat sharper than before I brought it in. And Harmonie suggested that I clean and disinfect underneath the mower as I had told her I thought my lawn had fungus problems last year. I appreciated the advice and did as she suggested. Now, the bad. I brought three other items there to be sharpened. There was almost no improvement in the cutting ability of the hedge shears, which was disappointing. And the two knives, which are are somewhat expensive Wusthof knives that I have always hand washed, did not look like mine anymore. There were long scratches on the blades, not near where the edges were to be sharpened. And the rivets, which previously looked like metal, now looked like dirty white-ish plastic rivets. Worse yet, they didn't feel any sharper. I sharpen my knives periodically with a handheld sharpener, and Harmonie even said that they were not dull when I brought them in, but I know they should be sharper when sharpened professionally. I called Harmonie the next morning to explain that the knives did not look like mine. I asked whether the knives were soaked in a chemical solution or if my knives could have been mixed up with someone else's, and of course she said no. I also told her that they did not seem sharp. She said I could bring them back. I explained that I don't live that close by, but that I would be in her area the following weekend for a volunteer event that started at the same time as her shop opened. I asked if I could meet her a little bit earlier than her normal opening, but she was totally inflexible. Then I asked her how long I would need to wait if I brought them after my volunteer event ended, and she was vague and non-committal. Mind you, I had to wait 5 hours to pick up my items after dropping them off 10 minutes after her shop opened because she doesn't work on the garden tools or mower blades until the afternoon, even though her website states "For your average order it takes 45min-3hrs." Clearly, she does what she wants on her terms only, so I said, "OK, I guess I'll see you next weekend." Did she respond "OK, see you then." NO. Did she say "I'm sorry you weren't satisfied with my work, but I will make it right". NO. Did she end the call with "Thank you, goodbye." NO. She responded with "Click". SO RUDE!!! Overall, I was so unsatisfied with her work and so uncomfortable with my interaction with her, that I decided it would be best for me to not have anything to do with her ever again. I really want to support small businesses in Portland, but not owners/workers who have little to no customer service skills or social graces whatsoever and who cannot properly do the job that you pay them to do. read more

I brought my sewing shears and a kitchen knife to be sharpened here yesterday, and I'm really happy with them both. A couple of little nicks on the blades of the shears were driving me nuts, but now they're nice and sharp and much easier to use because the guy sharpening them (didn't catch his name), also loosened them up a bit.
