Krystina did an amazing job sharpening my mid-range priced Chicago Cutlery knives. I took them in on Tuesday and she had them ready for me Friday afternoon. Mind you, I was expecting at least a week turnaround time given that we are still in high snowbird season. The price was amazing, $2.50 per inch and I found her to be very charming as well as her shop. And yes, she is the one who does the sharpening. I was thrilled to receive my kitchen knives back today! They are all incredibly sharp and make cooking a joy again. My knives are about 5 years old and had never been professionally sharpened. Think twice before you drop your knives off with Krystina. My mom had an expensive Japanese knife she had left with her 3 months ago and still hasn't gotten her knife back. Krystina claimed the knife was lost at one point, stolen by a dishonest person in another conversation, in her possession most recently, and will no longer reply to my mom's texts or calls to pick the knife up. The experience has caused a great amount of headache. The 5 star reviews are nice to see. They are what led to this roller coaster of an experience in the first place. I just hope she can make things right. I hate leaving this negative review, but this cannot slide. read more

My Ken Onion chef's knife is literally sharper than new! I'm so happy I met Krystina and Brad today at the Sarasota Farmers Market. (They have a purple tent there so its easy to find them.) I just have to say thank you not only for doing what I hoped, perfectly sharpen my favorite knife, but also to educate me on how to care for my knives between formal sharpening. That told me that they truly care about me as a customer and my long term, overall satisfaction. There are few places that sharpen scissors or shears in the area. The guy outside of ace hardware won't do them due to difficulties getting it right but Kristina at Sharper Than New does all your cutting tools and she ddies them well and it's quite affordable. Well worth it to give her your cooking and steak knives for sure. I had her do my kitchen pouLtry scissors as well as garden pruners hedge shears and my bonsai scissors. I had a bunch of gardening shears sharpened for my mother. They had been left to rust and not one of them had been sharpened in years, if ever. Krystina removed the rust, sharpened and cleaned them beautifully and my mother and her arthritic hands are so happy with the ease in which she now can prune her plants and shrubs. Excellent craftsmanship at reasonable prices. Krystina uses a wheel so she can't damage your knives (I had a favorite knife snap n half after a careless sharpener overheated it). Although she works by appointment she is very accommodating and will work around your schedule; in my case I was in the next town over for just a couple days when I discovered all my mom's knives were dangerously dull. Krystina worked me in to her schedule and I got all ten knives back ASAP. It's a pleasure to work with sharp knives; and dull ones are more likely to cut you -- badly. I had seen a story about Krystina in the Sarasota Market newsletter. I had a number of old knives that were very dull, and an expensive mandoline that was so dull it wouldn't cut anymore. We went to see Krystina at the market on a Saturday morning. Despite being busy, she took the time to evaluate all the knives we had brought and evaluate whether they were worth getting sharpened. One knife she said wasn't worth sharpening and she explained why. She obviously knew her knives and was very patient answering all of our questions and explaining what she would do very thoroughly. We agreed on a price - a very reasonable price - and a date to meet at her shop. True to her word, when I called on the specified day, she told me everything was ready for me to pick up. She was also very accommodating on meeting us after I got out of work. It was such a thrill to start cooking again - she did an incredible, meticulous job - I couldn't believe how effortless it was to cut with precision sharpened knives! The pride in craftsmanship and knowledge of her trade really shows through and is reflected in the high quality of work she does. Krystina is an un organized mess, No idea what these other reviewers are talking about. I wish I could post pictures on Yelp!! My brand new expensive knives were destroyed. I made the mistake of bringing 5 new knives to Sharper Than New. Two knives needed the factory edge sharpened. Turned out ok. That was the reason for the visit. After speaking with her on the phone I mentioned I had three more expensive unused knives a Mac professional bread knife,Wusthof Ikon Fillet knife and Shun Blue Steel petty knife..She said bring them she could probably sharpen them up a little. BIG MISTAKE! The Mac knife which should of never been sharpened after speaking with MAC since it was brand new!! Had a scratch running the length of the knife outlining the blade. Must of been put on whatever machine she used to TRY AND SHARPEN the knife incorrectly. The Wusthof was scratched up and duller than when I brought it in. Looked like she used a file to sharpen the blade. That knife should also of never been touched after speaking with Wusthof!! Brand new knives!! The Shun Blue which also should of never been sharpened, I was told was defective when I picked it up. Was fine when I brought it their. The edge was dimpled when I picked it up and the nice shinny blade was scratched. I was pissed!! Due yourself a favor, Never bring your expensive knives to Sharper Than New. The risk of having your knife ruined is not worth the reward of a sharper blade. read more
