Great location within walking distance to the heart of West Chester. Super friendly staff and community. Manager was very flexible when asking for lease extensions and even helped with ending the lease early. Each unit is unique so I can't comment on all of them but mine was well designed/maintained. We absolutely loved every minute of living in our Loft apartment. We were only there for 1 year and would of continued living there, if we had not had to relocate for business. There is nothing bad I can say about Sharples Works and all who work behind this scenes to make this a wonderful community to live in. Our Loft had all the best appliances, flooring and cabinetry. No expense was spared! Amy and Nancy in the office were so friendly and exceptionally helpful. It was always fun to pop into the office for a quick hi. If ever we needed maintenance, they were there and super friendly. The surroundings-grass, flowerbeds, gym and grill area are immaculately kept! We loved that it took us less than 5 minutes to walk into town. Fabulous restaurants, Post office and library were all conveniently there. The gorgeous Marshall Park is a mere stroll away. If you have pets, this is the place to be! Lovely dog area to run loose. And their owners were awesome and I made some great friends. This was our first experience of community living and we are hooked. read more

My partner and I have lived here for 3 years. We love our newly renovated loft apartment! New counters, floors, appliances, and fixtures were added. Aside from our apartment, Sharples Works has added awesome amenities in the past 3 years from a grilling/patio area to a dog park. They also added Amazon lockers this year which allow you to pick up packages whenever convenient. We've never had any problems with our apartment, but know that the staff would be helpful as they've been helpful with any minor inquiries we've had in the past. We don't have pets, but this complex is very pet friendly! We love that there is ample parking and the rustic/historic vibe of the place itself. It's also perfect walking distance to town which is arguably the best part! We have more than enjoyed our experience here and would recommend moving here to anyone. read more

Have lived here for over 5 years. Love the unique layouts of the apartments (all seem different) - not cookie-cutter at all and all have been upgraded. Add in the location (just a few walkable blocks from downtown West Chester and all the bars and restaurants), the responsive, friendly staff and neighbors, and you get a winning combination for a place to live. It's pet friendly (yay on the new dog park!) and has plenty of parking. I like the mix of neighbors: all ages, couples, singles (lots of young professionals) - not a student place. The management hosts events throughout the year, which is a nice way to meet people. I've always found the staff to be very responsive and friendly. Things don't sit. They fix things right away and they always offer their help if you need anything and are very friendly on top of it. You aren't an unknown person here -- they make an effort to get to know who lives here and create a really nice vibe. It's definitely a community - you can choose how much you want to be a part of it, but it's always there for you. read more

This was, by far, the most nightmarish apartment living situation I have ever experienced. The Sharples "luxury" experience is the biggest joke of the century. Old cabinets, old appliances, walls so thin that you can hear neighbors sneeze, snore. 120 volt dryer which is basically like trying to dry your clothes with a hair dryer. Four hours to dry sheets. Tiny hot water heater, never enough for a bath. Heat pump hvac which is essentially electric heat, so astronomical utility bills. Maybe it used to be a fun place, but while I was there, there was constant turnover, and most people moving in were kids just out of college. No sense of community. Useless property manager who has been there for 25 years and has gotten way too comfortable in her job. I actually never saw her doing anything but gossiping with tenants, if she was even there. Moved in from out of state. My 2 bed 2.5 bath bi level was not ready. I had the maintenance staff in every single day for weeks. Never heard a peep from the office staff to check in or apologize. The second floor had a strong smell of pee/Ramen noodles. Filthy under fridge and stove. Nobody could figure out what it was. Every time I put the ac on, this horrible, dank basement smell would come out. Started coughing, wheezing, was nauseous. Reported this to property manager, she said she would take care of it. A month later, nothing done, I had private testing done to check for mold in the system. Every sample came back at the highest levels possible. Vents covered in mold. Then started the bullying and intimidation from the higher ups at Reinhold Residential. "Everyone has a bit of mold in their HVAC" etc. Seriously. They finally scheduled a remediation. They clearly didn't want neighbors to see the guys in remediation suits, so they hired an air duct cleaning company. The guys came in and said they weren't trained to do this job. A horrible person from Reinhold, whom we had been forced to deal with throughout this ordeal and was just, frankly, a thug, told them to proceed. I was told no chemicals had been used in the system except a deodorizer, although all vents had been removed and taped over with wood. I checked out a vent after they were done, and got a few good lung fulls of some sort of chemical. Eyes, mouth, chest on fire. Told afterwards that they had used a biocide in the vents. Done by untrained workers who didn't allow it to air out. I can only imagine that Sharples gets away with all of this because the building is cool, they allow dogs, and the housing market is so tight in West Chester. Frankly, if I had that much mold in my system, so do others. What a horrible, horrible experience. read more

I've been living at Sharples Works for three years this coming spring and have absolutely loved it here. However, since nowhere is perfect, I've put together a detailed list of pros and cons that will hopefully be helpful to any prospective future residents! Pros: + The staff. You won't find better apartment staff anywhere, be it in the office or with maintenance. Since I've been here they've been nothing but friendly, helpful, reliable, accommodating and responsive. I've never brought to them an issue they couldn't resolve in a timely manner, and with the utmost professionalism. Every time I interact with one of them, regardless of the reason, it's always a pleasure because I know they're good at what they do, they care about doing their job to the best of their abilities, and they're each genuinely a person I like talking to. + Beautiful, unique and historical-yet-updated living spaces with well-maintained grounds. Anyone who's visited my apartment has been instantly wowed. + Fun social events for residents (and pets!), often involving refreshments from local businesses. + Extremely pet friendly policies and accommodations, including zero pet rent, a brand new dog park and doody disposal stations throughout the grounds, which are always stocked with baggies. + Downtown shops, restaurants, and other business are literal steps away. Now, in the time of COVID, there are tons of great non-chain/local take-out options and I easily save on delivery fees by walking five minutes to pick up orders for myself. + Tons of parking, including plenty for visitors. + Complex is located in a safe area of West Chester close to a high school, hospital, and first responders. Neighbors are always out and about and generally are friendly. Good sense of community. + Lots of trash disposal areas are located throughout the complex, so taking out trash is never too much of a task. + Area is very quiet for technically being downtown, so when there are local events (like the Christmas parade), parking is never a worry since you're already where the action is! You can step outside and enjoy the fun, then afterwards, retreat back to your quiet apartment within minutes. + Sharples has been super conscious of staff and residential safety in regards to COVID-19 and has put measures in place to help minimize contact and potential transmission. Cons: + Beautifully maintained grounds requires regular and VERY noisy landscaping work, depending on where your unit is. The landscapers don't start super early and never take a long time to work, but if you're sick or had a bad night and need to sleep in, you might be woken up by two or three leaf blowers going at the same time, possibly right outside your window lol. + The package receiving system (Amazon Hub lockers), while mostly reliable, can be wonky now and again, though I've only ever had a package go completely missing once, and that was the courier's fault. However, when there's an issue (like I'm out of town), the staff always steps in and secures my package until I can get to it. + Living at a repurposed location = dealing with a unique complex that can be hard to navigate for deliveries/Uber/movers/etc. If you live anywhere that isn't the most distinct building on the block, be ready to go outside to meet people and wave them down to locate you. They've added numbers to the parking spaces (which are not-assigned, which I like) and that definitely helps in telling people where to go. + Close proximity to the high school = hearing the marching band practice, (depending on which end of the block your unit is located). It's not for long and only for the football season I think, but it also wasn't a dealbreaker for me, and I previously lived in a unit extremely close to it. Could also be a pro depending on who you are! + The exterior door locks at my previous unit's building never seemed to work right, so they were often unlocked. I still felt safe in my building, but I really would have preferred having more reliable exterior locks. + The fitness center is really small and only has one treadmill, which is almost always occupied. It's better than nothing, but I would recommend getting a gym membership or your own equipment if you're someone who needs a reliable workout space (luckily the downtown branch of the YMCA is a couple blocks away and easy to walk to). + While there are more expensive places around, and it's still not that much higher than the average rent in the area, it is not cheap. If you're looking for budget living, this isn't the place for you. However, I absolutely see where the extra money goes in the quality of life I have living both in the area and in such lovely accommodations staffed by the best. Overall, I honestly can say I'm extremely happy living here, any cons are minimal and easy to work around, and I don't plan on moving elsewhere any time soon! read more

Absolutely loved living at Sharples! The walk to town is easy and in a perfect location! The staff is fantastic and can't thank them enough for making it home for over two years! Neighbors are great and if you have an animal it's a fantastic place with great ability to walk right to Marshall Park or all over the city. I lived here in 2001-2002. I met the most amazing young professionals. The management company threw a christmas party and Happy Hours. It was walking distance to the local establishments and no college kids. The apartment rental staff and maintenance staff are helpful and nice. The loft apartments really are open but a touch small for the money in the area. People were friendly & fun, in fact some of my neighbors are still my friends. Off Street Parking and Garages available and safe. But the drawbacks are the noise you can hear from other apartments. It seems they used metal studs for construction and very little sound deadening materials. I always heard my neighbors alarm and when they coughed. It is more expensive for the area, but if you are looking for an upscale apartment in the Borough this is it! read more

I've lived here for a little over a year. Moved to a 2 bedroom apartment when I signed my new lease. Great location, staff manages complex very well, outside area is very well maintained, nice people and just a little bit different since it's an old creamery. For those looking for state of the art in terms of kitchen/bath, this is not the place. Outdated for the most part. I'm not bothered by it since I like the unique feel of living in a converted factory. Other comment about the noise level is true. Coming from a single family home, this has been the hardest part to get used to...listening to neighbors walk on the floor above, hearing the washer/dryer, talking, etc. Probably the biggest drawback. We have been here at Sharples Works In West Chester 3 years and it is terrific! The Manager Amy and the girls Valerie and Nancy are great, and our maintenance employees are so great to work with and get the job done!! The garage parking at our site is the best, you never have to worry about parking. You are in walking distance into West Chester to all the fabulous restaurants. The interior of our apartment is beautiful and we have a large loft that overlooks our living room and high ceilings that we actually get a 14 Ft. Tree at Christmas! In summer we have a beautiful flower garden out front. If you are looking for a place that reminds you of "Little Italy" with beautiful brick all around you, this is it!! I've lived in apartments around the country for the last 18 years and at Sharples for the last six years. Have seen my share of bad to good complexes/apartments in my work travels. No bones about it, I'm a fan of the complex, the people who live here and the team that manages the property. The complex is within walking distance to downtown West Chester (which I love), has both garage and open parking and is near all the major routes to get just about anywhere. The apartments are all unique, so no two look alike - it's definitely not like renting the typical "box" apartment. I've lived in two different styles of apartments, both lofts. Have enjoyed them both. Is everything perfect all the time? No - but what is different here is that the management and maintenance teams always address things quickly and on top of that, they make the effort to know me. They address any typical issue that may come up quickly and go above and beyond often to help me out, especially when I have to go out of town on business. I never worry about anything. They've helped me make my place a home and have helped me with simple things like hanging a picture that was too awkward for me to do on my own or changing a light bulb in a hanging lamp I had installed because I don't have a ladder to reach the vaulted ceiling or helping carry a package from the office that was maybe too heavy or awkward for me. Those are just simple examples. I know I can ask them for assistance if I need help with things and they come to my aid with a smile, a conversation and getting the task done. They are totally NOT the impersonal management staff I've dealt with in other places over the years. That matters. The people who live here are a mix of ages, mostly professionals, but all share one key characteristic - super friendly. It had been a long time since I lived in a place where I knew my neighbors before I moved here, so it feels like a community to me. Here, I walk the complex and usually have a conversation or two (or three) with other people I meet along the way. That's very nice and very different from what I have experienced elsewhere. I looked at a lot of places around here before selecting Sharples. It was the unique apartment layouts, location and friendly staff that got me here - and it's that and their friendly and attentive approach to the tenants and property that keep me here. They're doing major renovations on apartments, which is nice - but even if my place wasn't renovated, I'd still be happy here because of all the other pluses (I can live with outdated kitchen cabinets - but nice to know they are making those and other updates). read more
