For new internet service setup, that was relatively painless. My roommate moved out and the internet was in her name. Unfortunately, it wasn't as easy as just switching the name on the account. Fortunately, the rest of the process was fairly easy. Sunday, I filled out a form on Shaw's website to create a new account and request internet service. The form included my choice of dates and times for a technician to come and visit. I then received an email confirmation the next day that someone would be out on Friday (today) between 8-10am. Two hour window, that's pretty sleek from the days of waiting all day for someone to show. At 837, I saw the Shaw van pull up and a technician who introduced himself as Jat showed up at the door. Within minutes, the old modem was swapped out for the new one and we were wireless again. He ensured my laptop connected and walked me through all of the Shaw Open wifi details. He saw our tv on the way out and asked if we were getting cable because there's a promotion on for PVRs. I replied that we are not. He didn't push it anymore (much appreciated!), said a polite goodbye and off he went. Next steps... register myself with the online customer service centre. This also went tickety-boo for the most part. I just entered my phone number and the account number on the card Jat left me and everything else was there waiting for me. The only annoying part in that process is trying to guess a username that hasn't been taken. I tried out like 5 of them before I found one. And each time I had to submit the form, then re-enter my information. Shaw, if you've got the coding in there to see if my passwords match, surely you can program a query to let me know if a username is available without having to submit the form. And it would make your process that much smoother. Same comment on creating an email address once I'm inside my account. Otherwise, like I said, relatively painless and so fast! And while I have a beef about businesses that only provide Shaw open as their wifi network for all customers, I do think it's a pretty cool initiative you've put in place for your own customers. read more

Screaming Fast Internet For Me. My old modem was degrading over time so I called and in 2 days they dropped off the new and took the old. I set it up then called, they connected and Boom! I then went and bought a 3rd party router, called shaw and had them set their modem (the one I installed) to Bridge Mode (Lets the internet pass through your shaw modem straight to your personal router). Personally I wouldn't rely on anyones hardware and would recommend buying a Router if your internet provider can bridge your modem. read more

I would give them zero stars if I could, worst customer service I ever had in my life. I sold my house in Calgary and disconnected my services. They had my authorization to use my credit card to pay my closing balance. Instead of doing that they sent me to collections for my final bill. They put a ding on my credit and refused to fix it when I asked even though it was 100 percent their fault, then I was put on hold to wait for a manager and they conveniently disconnected me. Our service was overpriced and unreliable for years, after we tried to cancel it we were disputing charges and the customer service agents were supposed to ecalate our request and have a supervisor return our call. Instead they did nothing but send a bill for $105 to collections. I was set up for a morning hook up at my home. Tech was over 2 hours late and when I expressed my displeasure ...tech gave me the finger! Some of the worst customer service I've encounter lately and that's a pretty low bar considering some of the terrible service I've dealt with over the last few months. We recently moved to a new home and while we've decided to cancel our home tv service, we also decided to upgrade our internet service. We moved from a two story home into a smaller bungalow and even with the upgraded router our service is the worst it's ever been. In addition, both my wife and I have asked a number of times to have the tv service cancelled and yet it still shows up on our bill. They promissed me everything over the phone and locked me into a five year contract without my understanding then could not provide what was offerred. Two words: Shaw sucks. I have been a sucker and used this shit company for years only because Telus sucks just as much. Both companies will screw you. The choice is yours. The customer service is about the worst you can get. They forever say it's my problem if a channel goes out or my internet goes down. It's never their fault of course. And when you do call them, you can never get to speak to a person right away. You either wait on hold for hours or for someone to call you back. So by the time they do call you, chances are the problem has been fixed. Perhaps this is part of their plan. Either way, the customer service idiots are simply that. The actual service, cable or internet, is average. And lately I'm finding that channels go out, internet goes down, or my personal favorite annoyance, when a channel cuts over to the next show before the one you're watching is finished. That really pisses me off. Do you know what it's like to watch a show for 55 minutes only to miss the last couple of minutes when you finally find out who the killer was? I've been waiting for your driver in Vancouver to come and install the goods for my new phone service and Broadband 50 (which was due back in October). The first time it too a 2 hour call of waiting, reconnecting, transferring and waiting and hangups. The second it was 35 minutes of pretty much the same. This time someone behind the person I was talking to was whispering instructions in response to my "beratement". (is there such a word?) I asked for the phone, but you said $29.99, then $24.99, but I said, it says on the website $14.99. Oh! OK We'll give it to your for $19.99. I was quickly on the phone to Telus for all this turnaround I was getting from you. I felt like I was trying to communicate and reason with a contemptuous mistress. Shaw Shaw Shaw. after I get my scheduled appointment between 6 and 8pm, your guy shows up at 4 pm at the wrong address and my neighbour gives me this letter from you that kindly states you came by and left. Not a single phone call. And finally after getting this all fixed, a new time, precise location confirmed and the person who was going to come to do the installment personally said he would be there between 6 and 8 and do the dirty deed that will leave me happy with broadband 50 and a new phone. Well it wasn't him that showed up. It was another installer who didn't show up. I waited by the door, by the window, listening for the doorbell, checking the car port, the street. Not a single Shaw car came by. I called Shaw and got ahold of a deal lady who had voices in her head. It was a whimsical little conversation (that took 22 minutes of waiting on my cellphone minutes before I got hooked up). We chatted about my delimna and that Telus was tempting me and beckoning at my door. Yet I was still faithfull, barely. She asked me to wait again, They're in the area and will call me. I was informed that this other installer called but was giving my old number. How could that be? The previous installer who was supposed to show up called me on the right phone number. What nonsensical mess-ups could further insue? What could test my limits of patience more than have someone tell me someone will call and they don't. Oh Shaw Shaw Shaw. I give thee one more chance and then you shall be booted out the door. The media shall be advised of your disspassionate dispositon. And I will be left wanting to succomb to second best. read more

It's been about 11 months since we started Shaw. At first internet connection seems ok. And then it slows down easily which I can fix by restarting the modem (unplug). This is understandable. What isn't is that it keeps doing that every 3 or 4 weeks. Same thing with the cable box/PVR. I never had this kind of issue when I was with Telus. And the one that finally made me boil over is their turnaround time for service. My wifi and tv have not been functioning for more than 2 days now and their next available technician is in 2 days yet. So it'll take them 4 days to get to us. 4 days of no wifi or tv. I can't work from home without internet. This is the most infuriating experience I've ever had! As soon as Telus puts up their Fiber connections in our community, I'm switching! read more

I've been very very happy with Shaw over the last five years. This is, in part, because of their awesome student discount. Getting cable, internet, and phone at a discounted rate is a huge draw for any person on a budget, and Shaw has really catered to student users by providing it. When something on my system doesn't work, Shaw is always good about fixing it in a timely manner. This is important to me as it means that they get my cable and internet back up and running. As a student, I often need internet access for my research--having shaw quickly fix what I've needed is imperative to my work. I will continue to use Shaw for my cable service in the years to come, and am pleased with how quickly they work to fix any issues we have. read more

In order to keep my pricing I had to sign a new 2 year contract and get TV for 3 months for free. We don't watch TV, and haven't had cable TV services for years. I was told if I return the equipment for the TV services I never wanted by January 25th I would not be charged - 2 different reps assured me on this. I brought the equipment back on the weekend of the 20th. They still charged me an additional $348 +GST to my credit card on January 27th, It is not March 9th, and I still have not received a refund or any compensation for the grief that this has caused me. I have spoken to 4 different people now. Two from customer service, one from loyalty, and one from corporate. They still have my money, and at this point I have the feeling I will not be getting it back. WORST customer experience of my life. 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

I have never had a bad experience with them and I have been with Shaw for many years (5+? - can't remember actually). There have been times when mistakes happen or service is off, but hey, stuff happens. They have always been happy to help or explain what the problem was. Once my phone went out and they had a tech there in 15mins and fixed the problem. Another time they talked me through some internet problem I had (I'm not tech savy) that had nothing to do with them- very helpful! ...and what do you mean "ENDURE" their commercials? Shaw Business saved my companies internet which was down for 5 days due to ongoing problems with Lightspeed Internet not caring about our situation, sending techs hours late, passing the buck and straight out lying. Shaw Business came within one day and had our internet running by the afternoon. Our internet controls our debit terminal and ability to take debit and credit card transactions, as well as our phone, so you can imagine how difficult and damaging 5 days of no service were to our retail business. Shaw showed up and were professional and prompt, got the job done and us up and running again. I was compelled to write this review based on how fast they came, and how reliable they were as far as showing up when they said they would and working through a few challenges to get the job done. I have been a residential Shaw customer since 2003 and despite a very few hiccups with them in the last year regarding techs coming when stated, the business side really came through and helped beyond measure. I was a Shaw customer since 2012 and they never offered a good service. Their up front billing is ridiculous!!!! They are always trying to mess with your account with "free" offers that suddenly become a huge burden in your bill. My last bad experience with them was last week when my wife and I tried to access Internet and nothing...they shut down my service!!! I have been a Shaw customer forever and would never go anywhere else. I have had all the products from the PVR, Gateway and I now have Blue sky. I have the best high speed Internet and on the rare occasion that I have had problems, I reach them quickly and easily on the phone. Every technician that has come out to put new stuff in has been great and explained everything thoroughly. I know of many friends who switched from Shaw to get certain promo deals or slightly cheaper offers but more often than not, I have heard complaints after they have made the switch. read more

Shaw Business Internet is a big joke. We are trying to get the service, but they come back saying : "Unfortunately your location still not serviceable from the previous notes on Feb. The cost to bring lines to your location is still $17k." Shaw did not even come to the building to do the survey and to check it out. Shaw probably think it is an easy money to do this way. At least keep trying and they will get someone who will jus pay .. Shaw want us to pay $ 17,000.00 to fish the cable through the conduit to our building. Our building is in the downtown area in the Beltline. In front of us is the big new building and right next to us another building with Shaw Internet. The funny thing is that two of their Shaw technician came to make the connection , but they did not find the Shaw cable in the building, but they told us the conduit is in place and all is needed just to fish the cable to your building, but the Shaw Construction department have to do this. We wanted Shaw Business Internet also in another location in Chestermere and guess what, they come back with the same thing, it will cost us $ 17,000.00 to get us the service. We understand that we businesses having hard time these days, but this is to us is a rip-off. Mistakes can happen, but we asked politely to come to the site and that their technicians mentioned that the conduit is in place, but that did not work. In February, they made us wait 12 business days to get an answer, then they said sorry someone did not follow up on this, but then within 2 minutes we received the note that we have to pay $ 17,000.00 to get the service.. We then asked to talk to the supervisor, but we were just ignored. We attempted to do this again two days ago, hoping that somebody was having a bad day, but it did happen again, $ 17,000.00 !!!! Just be aware of this and be careful. We will never recommend Shaw again to any of the business clients. read more

Got an offer from building to chose free home 1 year service from Internet and TV and Phone when i bought the building. Chose Shaw to start and see how Shaw does. Service was poor or not very good. Thought of cancelling after few months. Came up with a surprise that i need to pay for a PVR for 320+ $ which i never knew that they got my signatures on one page for that which was kind of hidden to me. For such a big company and playing these kind of games than actually improving their own service. Perpetual connectivity and reception issues. Calling for service is an aggravation, ie. called this morning, 25-35 minute wait just to talk to someone, you are 91st in queue (seriously???), and to get to that point, you have to listen to them talk about how great they are, and how you can get to someone so much faster if you go online. If I could get online, I wouldn't be calling!! Paying exorbitant rates (not for service, but to pay the multimillion dollar executive salaries) for service that sucks. Who's stupid here? Shaw Cable Sucks! To say that is good because the competition is bad is like saying that shit smells sweet because puke smells worse. Shaws service is not reliable especially in areas where there is construction. There service is horrific. Make an appointment...the tech will come between 12 and 5. You will be lucky if they show up at 6:30 if at all. Phone in and inquire and they will tell you that they will phone the tech and call you back in 10 or 15 min and then not call back. If you can get a tech in your house at all he will check and maybe replace the cable ends as a standard practice even though they are fine and were fine before your service came down when you mention that your problems started when they added new service to that condo accross the street they dont seem to hear you untill the 3rd service guy comes to your house and cant seem to resove the problem by changing the ends of your cables for the third time. I was told that techs are slotted 2 appointments for a 3 hour appointment period by a former shaw employee. I'm not sure why they tell you that your appointment is a 5 hour period. Except that Shaw feels that your time is worthless and you should expect to wait 5 hours even though they give their techs 3 hours to complete 2 service calls. Try calling shaw when your shaw phone goes down ... oh right you cant and they dont give a hoot for that either. If you resort to calling then on a cell be prepared to wait 30 min or more and guess who gets to pay for that - you! They just dont care about customers they want to give as little service as they can for as much money as they can get. Might as well take a day off from work to drive down there and get some resolution on that phone that doesnt work cause your time is worthless to Shaw. By the way dont expect to resolve it the first time expect at least 3 times for this as well. There is only one time where time is important and that is when it comes to paying for your services. What needs to happen is that the CEO's, Owners and upper Management of Shaw need to book interviews with people who have had problems with their services. They need book the appointments at their homes from 12 to 5 each day and wait for us to show up. They need to receive no money while they are waiting or with someone. They need to only receive wages when there are no more complants. Then they might rethink their service policy. Oh snap! They already think that there are no complaints. As far as they are concerned everything is fine as long as the money keeps rolling in.... update- Just got off the phone apparently my last appointment was booked but it failed to reach a tech. They are not sure why, they are very sorry, blah blah blah. This company fails at every level. Management, Customer service, and Technical service. For internet tech service you can wait 2 hours or more-if they answer the phone at all If there is a billing problem you go on hold for an indefinite period and listen repeatedly to their on-going garbage about the service they do not provide. I recently succumbed to one of Shaw's ads to Save $$ by signing up for the"Bundle" (I was already using Shaw Cable and Interent) The installer arrived at the appointed time and the system worked OK after a few delays. The installer made some changes that require me to fix to position my TV as before. The real bad news, serveral of the TV channels I had before the "Bundle" I will now have to pay extra subscription fees for. The end result less servcie and higher cost!! NEVER AGAIN. After being with Shaw for over ten years, I called them because I was considering leaving to go try out telus. Should have done just that but after some sweet talking into getting a "free rental" on a modem/router from shaw and a PVR with a reduction in my bill of $40/month I agreed. Yes, my friends, it indeed was to good to be true. As soon as my new router/modem was installed, I couldn't get internet worth a damn. Because I work from home a lot, I called to get this fixed and was told that in order to fix it, I would have to pay an additional $20 a month. I said just do it, because I need to do my work. Still don't have proper working internet after calling them three additional times. After installing the PVR and looking at the "packages" they sold to me. I lost almost every damn channel I watch! I then got my bill, which ended up being $8....yes $8 LESS than what I was paying before!!! When I called to advise them of my unhappiness at this and my internet and cable issues, I was told I would have to pay $20 to get my old channels back. So basically, to get back what I had before I had to pay more than I was paying the first place. How great. What a great way to treat a customer that has been with you for over ten years. I just called them to cancel my internet and cable and was told that they are very sorry and if I would have called this gentleman in the first place, he would have fixed everything and offered me a free internet upgrade and fixed my cable in order to keep me as a customer but now he can't because it appears I have made up my mind. Your one last chance to fix things is blown and I will NEVER be back. What a joke. read more

I have had providers from all three major players in Calgary (Shaw, Telus and Nucleus) The downside to Shaw is a few reasons. They like to raise prices on clients when infrastructure prices are dropping. To make it worse- they don't tell you it just increases. Their online chat is very rarely helpful - very rarely. Most of the time they stop typing for 5+ minutes or send you to call in. Call in times I've had 3-4 hour waits. They send you to drop off hardware - I spent 5 hours in one of those lines before They are better than Telus (more stable - and download speeds are always faster than Telus twisted copper. But prices are unbelievably high - their customer service is beyond terrible (and filled with attitude). They are very clear they have no value for customers - and random price hikes (3 in one year) will make you angry. Go for Nucleus or another smaller provider that gives you more speed for less and better support than Shaw. read more

Here's a fun little story for everyone... So I sublet my apartment last fall and get a frantic email from my neighbor (who also shares my internet) saying it's out. I email shaw and they inform me that I haven't paid my bill since June which was true... BUT... The last e-bill I got from them was for the June bill. So how does an internet company not know how to send emails? No email in spam folder, nothing, and I think I know what I'm talking about. I'm doing my PhD at SFU in Human Computer Interaction... So I pay all the charges, and tell them I need the service on ASAP. They inform me they'll re-instate it for a 5 day grace period until the payment is confirmed... 3 days later the money's gone from my account. 6 days later my sublet emails me saying "the internet isn't working"... So obviously they're completely asleep at the wheel... I sent a scathing email telling them not to "jerk me around" and they respond with this... "We've recently checked your service and it seems to be operating normally" My sublet confirmed this... No apology for the extra 3 day outage my sublet experienced... Terrible customer service. Raised or rates while reducing the number of channels available. Initially had channels 81-87 included in basic package until shaw decided to start charging extra for them. Just pulled them from the package we had been paying for years without notice or a subsequent reduction in our bill. When questioned about it they said it was never a part of our package even though I had a printed copy of our original Shaw plan that showed it was. They claimed we were getting these channels free even though they were charging us for them as part of our basic cable package. Ridiculous. Would not admit that they just decided to start charging for them without notice or explanation other than we had been paying for them but were getting them for free. Convoluted nonscense. Just another greedy, rapacious family of Troglodytes who do what they want because no one will bitch slap them. Admittedly, not much to choose from, but these turds really stink. read more
