All my previous payments were through chequing account. Then I find out that they made another charge to my credit card and told me that they did this because it was on my account. They did this without my authorization or notifying me. I told them that they need to reverse this charge but they say they cant. The director of operations was suppose to call me back and never did. Now over twenty years later Calgary's first ISP still provides top notch service with accessible internet at an accessible rate. When I signed up for a year of service I had to visit their office to pick up the free modem rental. I was delighted when the receptionist called for someone to bring me the paperwork and was met with a polite representative that shook my hand. Followup phone calls have been equally pleasant and personable. Unlike call center drones the staff at Nucleus have a real relationship with their customers and treat them better than billing numbers. I really appreciate this seldom seen type of service in such a competitively priced market! The internet service in itself has been fast and ultra reliable. Their basic service is less expensive than Telus and Shaw!

    For new internet service setup, that was relatively painless. My roommate moved out and the…read moreinternet was in her name. Unfortunately, it wasn't as easy as just switching the name on the account. Fortunately, the rest of the process was fairly easy. Sunday, I filled out a form on Shaw's website to create a new account and request internet service. The form included my choice of dates and times for a technician to come and visit. I then received an email confirmation the next day that someone would be out on Friday (today) between 8-10am. Two hour window, that's pretty sleek from the days of waiting all day for someone to show. At 837, I saw the Shaw van pull up and a technician who introduced himself as Jat showed up at the door. Within minutes, the old modem was swapped out for the new one and we were wireless again. He ensured my laptop connected and walked me through all of the Shaw Open wifi details. He saw our tv on the way out and asked if we were getting cable because there's a promotion on for PVRs. I replied that we are not. He didn't push it anymore (much appreciated!), said a polite goodbye and off he went. Next steps... register myself with the online customer service centre. This also went tickety-boo for the most part. I just entered my phone number and the account number on the card Jat left me and everything else was there waiting for me. The only annoying part in that process is trying to guess a username that hasn't been taken. I tried out like 5 of them before I found one. And each time I had to submit the form, then re-enter my information. Shaw, if you've got the coding in there to see if my passwords match, surely you can program a query to let me know if a username is available without having to submit the form. And it would make your process that much smoother. Same comment on creating an email address once I'm inside my account. Otherwise, like I said, relatively painless and so fast! And while I have a beef about businesses that only provide Shaw open as their wifi network for all customers, I do think it's a pretty cool initiative you've put in place for your own customers.

I think one needs to be careful who they choose to work with - things like up-time of our tech, applications and software are important, but so is an effective working relationship, something the team at TWT is great at. I've read a lot of bad reviews for the satellite services out there, typically due to them being massively oversold, and way slower than advertised. And while I go with Bell Satellite TV, and they DO offer satellite internet, they DON'T in all parts of the country (including mine). So that being said, I've gone with Platinum for several years now. In my area, Platinum is a wireless network that relies on line of sight between your house mounted dish, and one of their towers. I maybe was sceptical of this setup at first, but it's been surprisingly solid and reliable almost all the time. However.... as good as Platinum once was (and it was great), it too now seems to be massively oversold. I guess they can't say no to a sale, and because of that, the download speeds I'm getting are absolutely horrible. You can see the Speed test photo I uploaded for evidence of how bad it can be (.09 mbs). But rest assured, .25 mbs during prime time is about it. Sometimes I think I'm on dial up. And forget about streaming a movie! I download movies overnight for viewing the next day... Anyhow... Platinum was once good, and they may be good again if they can find a balance between sales, and network performance. In the mean time, I'm waiting for other options. Platinum: it's only a matter of time before better options take over, so figure it out, before you are obsolete.

    As per the other reviews, since Platinum has taken over EFirehose they have forgotten that they…read morehave customers. 27 hours of downtime over the past 5 days, 5 separate calls to technical support with a phone message and not one reply. Sales and all other numbers do not pick up either so I think that they may be close to closing if there are no employees that can answer a call. Corporate support (we are a corporate client) actually just rings, no VM no hold no nothing.
