If you haven't been here yet, you must go, as in asap. Found this spot when looking for a place to try on Yelp and so glad we did. It is a bit hidden as you can't see it from the main road and have to loop around a parking lot but you will find it. It is on the first floor of an apartment building and has plenty of parking. You enter through a space that has a small grocery area with a variety of regional foods. We made our way to the counter and we're greeted nicely, asked if it was our first time and given menus. My partner got the mixed kebab plate and, since it was Friday, I got the lamb biryani. Oh my goodness, this was some of the best lamb I have ever tasted. The shank was huge and perfectly cooked. So tender and falling off the bone. The rice was deliciously seasoned and the overall serving size was enough to have dinner the next night too! We picked up a small container of mixed baklava to go from the grocery area and they were the perfect after dinner treat. This is a must try in Mankato! read more

We were in town for the Mankato Marathon and wanted something different than a burger or pasta so decided to try Shawarmania. It was so good and the staff was very helpful in navigating the menu. You order at a counter and then the bring the food to your table. They have many different shawarma options like plates, skewers, etc. I had a lamb skewer and beef skewer with rice. My partner had the lamb shank (only available on Friday's). My food was very good, but she hit the jackpot! The lamb was super tender and the rice it was served on was so good. Man where do we start? Best Mediterranean food ever, and we live in NE Mpls which is the epicenter of Mediterranean food in the Twin Cities? How about the chef learned to cook in the UAE banquet scene, somehow ended up in Mankato of all the places in the world, and he wanted to bring REAL middle eastern food to Minnesotans? Wait, they serve Biryani? Oh and there's a dessert case too. We got the Lamb Shank Biryani and the Shawarmania Mixed Kebob. It's the best of either of those dishes we have ever had. BTW we are a foodie family one side from NYC and the other side from Seattle. Yep all that is true. When you're in Mankato just go here. Skip everything else. Yes the food is that good. And I complimented the chef that his food has more subtlety and flavors than anything we have experienced up and down Central Avenue in NE Mpls. Sorry Holy Land. Did I mention dessert? Absolutely outstanding! Ahmad just made me an ~oustanding~ dinner! I've eaten here a number of times before, but "it's been a while" since I've been in. WAY too long, as it turns out... Tonight's beef kebab was excellent, but the salad, hummus, and GARLIC sauce really put it over the top! The hummus was exceptionally smooth... the best I've ever had. I'm generally more into "savory" and less into "sweet," but the Pistachio baklava was also outstanding. I hated to "lose" the lingering garlic flavor, but that baklava was calling my name. Can I give 10 stars!?! Was visiting from TN and had the most amazing gyro platter this morning. My sister got a chicken platter. The entire staff were SO nice and pleasant. We loved the food so much we got some hummus and bread to go. I'll only in town a week and I'm planning to come back at least once before I go back to Tennessee. This is just a great place! We came in as a larger group mid afternoon and had the best experience. The garlic sauce (whipped garlic spread) was to die for. Everything tasted amazing and we found the little grocery section to be wonderful. Then we came back on our way back through a few days later because the owners made us small Dubai chocolates. We regularly go in for the 2 for $10 special and it's always good. We usually comment that there could be more vegetables and sauce in each of them. But they taste great! Service is usually pretty friendlly and quick. There's also a little grocery area for spices, boxed items, canned items, some mango lassi, etc. Setting is basically like a cafe. This place is a hidden gem in the Mankato area nearby the U. It's new, but if I hadn't seen it as a recommendation on Yelp, I wouldn't have seen it. It's located in a new food and living building. We ordered food to go (6 entrees) and it was all ready to go when we arrived about 20 minutes later. The crew working were extremely friendly and asked if we wanted any extra sauce or silverware/ napkins. They gave extra garlic sauce, which I was excited about after I tried it. Thanks you!!! There were some amazing looking baked items near the counter that I should have purchased as well. Next time! Entrees- Shawarmania Chicken Plate (our favorite!). Comes with salad or cucumber yogurt and rice, hummus or fries. Ordered the salad and rice. The rice is a perfect match for this dish. Highly recommend! The chicken is thinly sliced, seasoned perfectly and has crispy corners... exactly what I love. Plus the rice was flavorful combo when scooping a bite with the chicken. I will be craving this! Falafel plate- Also tasty. The garlic sauce/paste is delicious with the falafel on a pita with a little salad. The falafel are good sized and were not dry. Tasty! We came down from the Twin Cities and we're worried we wouldn't find any exciting food on our visit. We couldn't have been more wrong. There is nothing like this place in the metro area. I had the grilled kebabs, which were grilled to order, and cooked to perfection. The staff was very hospitable and you can tell they take a lot of pride in the food they're putting out. This place was more like a 3.5. I had the gyro, the chicken shwarma, and the tabouli. The restaurant was clean, the service was decent, and the price was reasonable. Everything just seemed so under seasoned, especially the chicken shwarma. If it didn't have the pickles in there, it would have been unbearably bland. The gyro didn't necessarily need additional seasoning, but the salad could use a few shakes of sea salt. I will be back for the gyro for sure. read more

Sad and bizarre experience. Ordered a $14 veg sampler and a $9 schwarma sandwich at the counter. Was charged $29 and change. I said that can't be right. They gave back $2, saying they mistakenly charged me for a drink. Still not right but let it go. When the food was ready--not when I ordered--was told they were out of grape leaves, so they had substituted some odd deep fried cheese roll up things without asking. The baba ganoush was very good, with a nice garlic tang. Hummus oddly had little flavor, lots of tahini, smooth rather thin texture. Falafel was fresh and tasty. The schwarma sandwich was filled out with French fries--strange, and not mentioned on the menu. Chicken seemed reheated rather than freshly sliced. Flatware was not clean, with food sticking to a fork we picked up. Plastic flatware was also available--we switched to that. Some suspect debris floating in provided water--we left that alone. Any place can have an off day, but adding all these issues up, it might be generous to give two stars for the very good baba ganoush and falafel when everything else was...not. It's sad. This place was fantastic when it first opened in 2019, but we had stopped going some time ago as food quality had changed a lot. Thought we would give it another try, being back in Mankato for the weekend. Really disappointing. Other reviews here were very positive, so I hope our experience was just out of the ordinary. Very below average for falafels. They were premade frozen ones and nothing special about it to be $9.74 after tax. I don't like giving bad reviews, but after eating this my stomach was upset. I was disappointed to say the least. I had 1 1/2 falafels left and a lot of salad left because I couldn't finish it. I'm sure the other items might be good, but I wouldn't want to try it now. Also when I arrived I wasn't sure if they were open. The open signs on both sides of the door weren't even turned on when I arrived after 11:30. A "Shawarmania-run" is almost a weekly thing for me and my husband. Great fluffy rice and tender, tasty meat dishes with delicious spices. We are to-go customers and call and pay ahead and they always have the food warm, packaged and ready by the time we arrive. The servings are very large, so we usually get two meals from each dish. We pick something new each time to try and it's always very good, we've almost worked our way through the whole menu. We have been regular customers at this establishment from the day they opened but never found the food done so bad. Grape leaves were sweet(???), Pickles were also sweet. Way too much salt in the Greek salad dressing. Tabbouleh was lifeless. No zing. Tasted like just parsley and bulgar wheat. They forgot the pita I ordered and no tahini sauce came with the falafel. The person who cashed me out was very nice, but unfortunately we won't be back.
