Nice space..plenty of tables and parking. The staff was nice and attentive. I was little disappointed that I had no path forward to try several dishes. Yet I settled on chai tea, butter chicken and garlic naan. Perfectly cooked rice with chicken simmered in a creamy tomato-based sauce flavored with butter, garlic, ginger, and warm spices. I asked for medium heat but it was very mild. Garlic naan was soft, fluffy flatbread traditionally brushed with butter and topped with fresh garlic and herbs. It was super good when dipped in the butter chicken sauce. This makes me crave lentil soup and lemon rice. read more

What an amazing experience!! Went for the first time and it won't be my last time. I haven't really expanded my food horizons with Indian food, but this was a phenomenal place to start. The owners and staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I had the Vegetable Bakora with Mint and Tamarind Chutney sauces, Chicken Karara Balti, Lamb Loin Chops (not on original menu, but hopefully on an updated menu coming soon), Garlic Naan, and for dessert the Kulfee! Finally tried India Palace after a long time of meaning to go there. It didn't disappoint. The food is served family style which is great to be able try several dishes. We took butter chicken and tandoori chicken and it was really really bad. The naan and Karahi lamb was very tasty though. Butter chicken was just a tomato sauce from Costco without any masala or butter or ginger garlic onion paste. When we asked about it the server said this is how butter chicken is made here with chicken dipped in tomato gravy and nothing is added. Tandoori Chicken tasted like boiled chicken which is broiled a little bit. Really bad experience with the food till date.. read more

Ordered here for take out from door dash. Delicious food, fast (maybe too fast because they forgot the spice) and prompt. However the items we ordered, (Buttered chicken and chicken Biryani) were not spicy at all despite of us noting on the order "HOT" with extra hot sauce on the side (which we did not receive). We called and inquired about the order. The owner mentioned to make sure we make note of the level of spice on the order (which we did and noted HOT) and that next time we need to call the restaurant and let them know how spicy we want the order, after ordering the order. In Mankato for the day and checked out yelp for lunch suggestions . I happily landed at Indian Palace. Very clean inside and comfortable booths and tables. There are some outdoor tables on a patio. I ordered the chai tea, pashwari naan and chicken and mushrooms. Everything was hot as it came to the table. The pashwari hot naan was perfectly cooked-crispy outside and doughy inside. The only bad thing is using their table as childcare. I totally understand that it's summer and the young girl may not have any other option but the loud tv was a huge distraction. I love this place! My husband and I have eaten here many times this year. We've really been trying to support local restaurants during the pandemic. India Palace is our favorite place to stop when we're in Mankato. All of the staff are incredibly friendly. The food always comes out hot, fresh, and delicious. Our personal favorites are the garlic naan, the Gobi Manchurian Balti (favorite thing on the menu) and the Vegetable Biryani. Their chai and rice pudding are great options if you want something sweet. All in all, I would highly recommend visiting if you're in Mankato! There aren't a ton of local options, in the area but this is a true gem. read more

A family run restaurant...Food is excellent. I'm not Indian so don't know if it's authentic Indian food but they always get the flavoring right. Great prices for the food. Atmosphere is very familiar with strong ethnic decor. Service is not great everyone looks very serious especially the daughter that is one of the servers she always looks upset. This was my first time trying Indian food. The wait to be seated was non existent and we're greeted by a friendly host. Once seated it was about a ten minute wait to get our drinks and order placed. Certainly an area for growth. The waiter was very friendly and helpful when ordering. I was with two other people. The food preparation time was extremely long pushing 20 minutes. I was told that Indian takes longer to cook. Food delivery was not done at same time with my food arriving minutes before the rest of the group. It was served hot and stayed hot even though I had to wait to eat. One of the drink orders was forgotten. It was a quiet place that had great decor. For a first timer food was not bad. Nice food, all but spoiled by the Iitty-bitty portions and dishonest waitstaff. No matter the entree one orders, it will arrive at the table in child-sized portions served in stainless steel bowls, just like the ones used in the Stillwater Penitentiary. On two separated occasions, I paid the bill in cash as soon as it arrived in a discreet vinyl folder. But as I hadn't the exact change, I just dropped a couple of twenties in there for a $31 meal, expecting my change to be returned to me in the same folder. It never made its way back to the table. Just before leaving, I buttonholed our waiter to ask for my change. "Well, it was only nine dollars," he told me, "so I kept it as my tip." I found myself having to explain the concept of VOLUNTARY GRATUITIES to this kid, who clearly believed in creating his own by pocketing the change instead of returning it to the table. He took an attitude with me so I told him that the act of withholding a customer's change is a form of theft. His response was "You have finished your meal. Leave now." "Not without my nine bucks," I told him. Six months later he pulled the same nonsense with us. This time I asked for manager, but was told "we have no manager tonight." Be wary of the waitstaff here. Even if you pay by card, try to do it in view of the card reader and by all means check your statements after you've eaten at this place. Even though I live in St Peter (12 miles away) I would much rather make the trek to Chaska or St Louis Park for Indian food from a place that keeps a watchful eye on its employees. I will not be returning to this Mankato chop shop run by a sticky-fingered staff. read more

This is a great little ethnic gem for the Mankato area. It's something unique in a sea of burger joints and wing places. They have a wide selection of all the Indian favorites- vindaloo, masala, curry, etc. There are a lot of vegetarian options, but I usually get lamb because not only is it truly delicious, it's not something you can typically order in Mankato. Their dishes are made to order, so you can adjust the heat level. If you're new to Indian food I'd recommend starting out with either mild or medium. Service is quick and friendly. Despite living in mankato for five or so years I haven't tried this place until yesterday and it didnt disappoint. I got the lamb curry josh and roti and everything was delicious. I like spicy food but not a ridiculous amount so I got the dish with the medium spice level , again the food was great, but I would have liked it to be spicier. Id say if you like spice just go for hot and if you like reaaally spicy food maybe see if you can get it extra hot. read more

Love this place. Been there twice and both times the food and service were top notch. My only minor complaint was the spiciness - they offer different levels: mild, medium, hot, indian hot and extra spicy. I tried indian hot the first time and extra spicy the 2nd time. Neither was that hot. Vindaloo Chicken 5/5 - big, very tender pieces of chicken in a "spicy" tangy sauce cooked with potatoes and tomatoes with rice. Very tasty and a very decent sized serving Gobi Manchurian Balti 5/5 - I usually avoid vegetarian dishes at all costs but I saw this on my last visit and had to try it. It's awesome - cauliflower in a chickpea batter that is deep fried and covered in amazing sauce. The best part is that since it's vegetarian you can devour the whole dish with no guilt. It's healthy, right? Naan 5/5 - wonderful, hot and tasty. Mango Lassi 5/5 - the first time my lassi wasn't that cold but it was colder the 2nd time. While it still could be colder (in my opinion) they were both incredible. KULFEE 4/5 - They list it as: homemade ice cream made with almonds and pistachio. Its somewhere between ice and ice cream. Different, but good. Next time I'll try the actual ice cream. read more

Ordered take-out dinner that consisted of (i) Aaloo Palak, (ii) Daal, and (iii) Tandoori Roti. (i) was tasteless - no spice and lacking salt. (ii) tasted fine, though was overcooked (the grains in a properly made Daal grains are well cooked but not overcooked that they're mashed up). (iii) was the worst I've ever had and absolutely tasteless. The meal completely upset my stomach (think diarrhea) and I threw the leftovers for obvious reasons. read more

This was some of the best Indian food I've tried. All their tables were filled within a half hour of them opening and after eating there I get WHY. If you have someone in your party that can't do spice they will keep it out and it's still as delicious as the same dish with some kick. My first trip into Mankato! My friends and I had made plans elsewhere but found out last minute that it wouldn't work. So we found India Palace close by. The place was busy at lunch but there was no wait. The interior was clean and well maintained and the staff were friendly and professional. The menu struck a nice balance between offering many options without overwhelming. My vegan friends were happy with multiple pages of vegan / vegetarian options, which is something they don't get to see very often. Score on that front! I ordered my go-to beverage when sampling Indian cuisine, which is Chai. This place did not disappoint in that regard. My friends sampled some Indian beers and seemed happy with their choices. The food arrived in good time and in good quantities - enough so you didn't finish hunger but also where if you ate all of it, you weren't stuffed. I ordered some shrimp tandoori that came with a side of chicken curry. Everything about the dish was, if not superb on every level, was nevertheless very good. I was not disappointed. The spice level was perfect too. If you like super hot, I don't know if the 5 would be enough. The menu was good but I don't know if I saw anything I hadn't seen offered elsewhere. Not a strike against, but I do like when I can find something really unique at a restaurant.
