What a fantastic meal from this hidden gem in Mankato, MN. So close to campus as well. New owner Ken who took over within 2022 was very friendly and welcoming to take a last minute catering order. Everyone complimented the food at my party which made my heart full. Each dish had an abundance of good well balanced flavors. Pad Thai was sweet, savory, tangy - how it should be. Friend Rice was Thai style instead of Chinese soy sauce style which I enjoy more because of the flavor Red curry was just like how my momma would make. Drunken noodle is something you don't pass up if you see on the menu. I definitely will be visiting again next time I'm in town to try more off the menu. read more

I'm in town from the greater Knoxville area to visit my family and we don't have great Thai and Chinese anywhere near my house so I was really craving some when I got to MN. We had a family dinner tonight and I ordered from this restaurant. It was AWESOME! The fried rice wasn't that nearly white, tasteless stuff you get at so many places and the beef was so tender. We got pad sew, beef and broccoli, orange chicken, fried noodles, fried rice, chicken satay and vegetable spring rolls. The Thai noodles were VERY spicy for ordering them as "medium" but it was very flavorful. Wish I lived here so we could eat it again. read more

Wakai is finally open again, and it's a favorite place for my family and I to get Asian dishes. For once, "mild spice" does actually mean that it's a little spicy, but not overwhelming! It'll be great for building up tolerance. They even had Laab and Pho listed for specials, which I'm keen to try next time! read more

Nestled in a strip mall with a bunch of other things to eat, after a concert my girl friends and I stopped by for some comfort food. This Asian Fusion has Thai, Hmong, Japanese and Chinese food all in one. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs. You order your food at the counter and then they bring it out to your table. We had poke bowls, pho, red curry, Lao papaya salad, spring rolls and a few sushi rolls. The curry was okay-it didn't have the distinct flavors of a normal Thai restaurant to stand out, a bit watery and not as thick as usual Thai curry is. The poke bowls were dry, though the fish was fresh. I wish they had more sauce. The pho was a big portion and a bit on the sweeter side- which is fine with me. It's very light and refreshing after a night of drinking! Service was great but food came out a little slow considering we were the first ones there. We spent 2 hours total. read more

So we went to try out the newest Asian food invasion in Mankato.... well, turns out all is not yet completely functional. They list Sushi and Poke Bowls, however, after closer review, they are not yet available. Anyway, they have bubble tea, so if that's your jam, Yahtzee! On to the lunch..... Crab Rangoon: ok, this one is easy and simple... however, I wasn't a huge fan of sweet and sour or duck sauce (unsure here). The Rangoon was mostly as expected, it definitely wasn't awful . Pad Thai: The noodles were cooked good, and the taste was better than expected, definitely need to try this one again. Red Curry: Ok, so I think this dish was definitely not as good as the Pad Thai. In fact, it was mostly subpar. The vegetables were canned, soggy and stale tasing, the curry was mostly bland and lacked anything flavorful. I'm not a fan of this dish. Fried Rice: this is another simple yet important item. Unfortunately, it wasn't much to write about. Fairly bland and lacking flavor. Well that's it.... give it a try. Hopefully some of the Sushi and Poke Bowls are available now. I'll probably go back for the bowl, as that was the original reason we stopped in. read more

This is now the second time I've ordered carry out from Wakais within their listed hours online (hours are listed the same on their storefront) and they were closed when I showed up to get my order. Their food looks good so I wish I could try it but I'm not going to support their business if this is how they operate it. read more

This restaurant used to be great.. one of my favorites in town actually. Even when it was sold and they changed the menu around, it was great. But the last few times I've been here the food turned out different every time, there weren't all the correct ingredients in the meal, the college aged students working were very unorganized and many people were waiting to order and to pick up their online orders while all the staff was in back for sometimes up to 15 mins with no one at the register. The last two times i ordered online my order was lost or "I didn't print off". It would be nice if the service and food could go back to how it was when the new owners purchased the restaurant. read more

Yum! Ordered food from Wakais for the first time since the new ownership last night. We got Bangkok Chicken, Singapore Noodles, and Thai Sausage. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. The sausage was very well seasoned and the sauce was spicy. We ordered the Bangkok Chicken at the hot spice level, but it was mild enough for our 1.5 year old child. The flavor was great, just not very spicy. Both entrees had more (and better quality) vegetables than the other Asian restaurants in town. The serving size was large enough to share with our kid and have leftovers for lunch the next day. We will be back! read more

I actually don't mind this place because I love getting bobba tea. So normally I get pho there and my bobba. The pho is always "alright" not bad not great, doesn't come with many extras like most other pho places that load you with bean spouts, basil, carrots, lime, etc. This time around I wanted to try something else so I ordered the Wakai's platter. This comes with Grilled beef, Chicken, Pork, shrimp & a fried egg. What I received tasted pretty good but was pretty sad for the 20$ price tag on the platter ALONE. The "beef" where rib bits and tasted good but where pretty charred and ALL FAT, like probably less then an ounce of beef all fat and weird bone bits. The other proteins tasted alright. On the menu this is also pictured as plated beautifully and with veggies which I received none of and it was very boring looking, all yellow. And to add to this disappointing expense dish they forgot the tapioca balls in the two bobba's I ordered ): kind of a waste of almost 40$ But I'll probably still eat here. read more

We ordered the Wakai bowl, sesame chicken, and Tofu Lo mein. There was only one other group of three at the restaurant. Both of our groups waited at the counter for about 10 minutes before a staff member came out from the back. She apologized and said she didn't hear us because the music was too loud. We placed our order and sat down at a booth. They had a condiment tray out with fish sauce, soy sauce, etc. all of the sauce bottles were covered in dried up sauce. I called the employer who took our order over and asked if she could wipe down our table because it was sticky with dried sauces. She scrubbed the table for a while and eventually gave up and apologized that she couldn't clean it up. She then blamed closing crew stating that they must not have cleaned the night before. 25 minutes after we ordered a staff member came to our table and said that they just realized that they were out of tofu and asked if we wanted to replace it with shrimp. We told her no and to just not put any protein in the noodles. About five minutes later the sesame chicken arrived. And shortly after that my boba tea and pop came. It took another 15 minutes for the rest of our food came out. The food was good, I have no complaints about the taste or quality. My only issue was the cleanliness of the restaurant and I don't feel like it should take 40 minutes for three meals when it is completely dead in the restaurant. read more

Fresh, flavorful, and served steaming hot. I also had the Chicken Egg Rolls which were delicious. I used to be a big fan of this place. I was so excited when they opened, and the food was really good. Then they slashed their hours and are practically never open. My last time there I ordered online & it was not ready by the time we got there (20 min, when it said it'd be ready), they weren't even open! They finally opened the doors 5 min after seeing us at the door. Said it'll be 10 more minutes. Came back 20 min later and it still wasn't ready. They said 15-20 more min. After 10 min I asked for an update and when the employee went to the back kitchen, I could clearly heard them complaining and talking trash about me. At that point I said I am leaving and want a refund. The owner, who was in the kitchen cooking, came out and very aggressively verbally abused me, it was terrifying. Then began to yell at me how sick he is and what's he supposed to do?! That sealed it, the owner and chef cooking food while super sick?! No thank you! I will never be going back. read more

The sushi rolls are really good, the Pho doesn't generally have a lot of flavor so I wouldn't recommend it but the Khao Poon is really good. I like the snow crab roll. read more
