And what a relief that had Vegan options on the board. We were 7 of us and the person on the counter suggested we take the Vegan Family Feast that feeds 5. The good thing is that all of it was vegan even the garlic sauce which is rare. The salad, the grilled veggies, the rice, the potatoes (fresh batch made just for us), plenty of pitas, the garlic sauce and hummus. We bought for 5, we were 7 but could have easily fed 10-12 easily. Hubby was having a long day at work--as a line cook--so I took initiative and got us food from Shawarma's King. Dinner was a happy ending that evening :) His order was the Chicken Shawarma platter, and mine was the the King Poutine. We shared a side of garlic potatoes. My falafel ended up being a falafel wrap--I maybe misread the menu, but it was really tasty either way. Hubby knows I write reviews on Yelp and, without prompting, began rating his meal to Shawarma Palace--for each component of each dish, 'King outranked 'Palace in almost ever way! The only thing--the garlic sauce was not garlic-y enough. The food was great, in my opinion, *especially* the side of potatoes and the wrap. I will skip the poutine next time. It was a nice novelty, but I think The Great Canadian Poutinerie has me spoiled. Not technically within the control of the restaurant, but we got delivery via Uber Eats. I was in Ottawa for work and my friend HIGHLY recommended I change out Shawarma King. Not only was I excited by the recommendation, but I was also excited to try out the food! I've been on a KETO diet for months, and this sort of menu can work really well for my needs. When I came in, I asked to order off menu and just get a sampler of ALL THE MEATS. They looked at me a little crazy and then said "sure, let's do this." I took a seat and soaked up all of the smells while they cut and trimmed and grilled and fried several different meats for me to sample. They also put together a vegetable tray for me and man alive, everything was so super delicious and fresh. If I had access to this knd of food all of the time, I would be a very happy man. Ottawa is full of shawarma places, so I've had a lot of shawarma. I would say that Shawarma's King has really good shawarma, but the potatoes and rice are just ok, and the place itself is a little grungy, in my opinion. Service was good. The younger guys were much nicer to me than the old guy, but the old guy was still ok. I've only had the beef shawarma here, not the chicken. The beef is tasty and well seasoned. It's not too chewy. They are very generous with the meat. You get a lot. The older guy is also very generous with the garlic sauce. He put like 4 tablespoons of garlic sauce into my large shawarma. Way too much for my liking, but he already did it before I could stop him. Be forewarned if you don't want to smell like a walking bulb of garlic for a week! I didn't really like the potatoes here because they were not crispy. They looked good, but were kind of soggy and starchy tasting. The yellow rice was ok. It was very fragrant from all the spices (smelled like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, etc.), but I didn't feel like it was great. The baklava there is ok. Tastes like baklava you get at grocery stores. Not as good as at a bakery. Combo 5 is great for sharing. It's an extra large shawarma sandwich, a side of potatoes or rice, a piece of baklava and a can of pop for $15.49. Service was OK. Chicken shawarma was alright - a little dry so we were glad we dined in to ask for more garlic sauce. Not only is the garlic sauce here delicious but it saved the sandwich. The ends of the sliced off chicken just were too chewy. The falafel were 3 star - a bit too salty and not crunchy enough. Thankfully for a $1 each, we only bought 2 and not a dozen. My potatoes were not fresh, but I guess that is to be expected at the time that I went. The garlic paste had good flavour, but a little too runny in my opinion. The sandwhich tasted good, but completely fell apart more and more with each bite. I couldnt eat the last bit because it was just all over the place. The store itself could be cleaner. The display shelves are dusty and theres a fridge display beside the cash with candy bars just thrown in. It makes the store look very messy. The staff were friendly, but the washroom had no soap or paper towels. The tables were also not wiped down even though there were not too many people in the place. As far as a restaurant goes, I wouldn't classify this place as one - its more what you'd expect from a food truck. My experience was less than average. read more

My absolute favourite place for Shawarma in Ottawa. The guys who work here are super nice, sociable and pretty polite as well as being fast and precise. Service is good. Decor isn't much to look at, it's a standard shop with chairs and tables as well as a television. It has big glass windows though so you can see through onto the streets. I get a small chicken shawarma here every time I come and I never order anything else because I just absolutely love their shawarma here so much. When I order, they put a very generous dollop of garlic spread onto my pita, and then give me a lot of nice shredded chicken. The portions are pretty big here. I fill up with some fresh veggies and then they throw it on the panini press so I get a nice crispy pita with my shawarma. It's delicious, crunchy, soft, and has just enough that I sometimes have leftovers for the next day. Plus, it's healthy (It is, there's a lot of veggies in it!! Go here about once a week and I can't wait to go back again. They're open until late so it's perfect for the after drink munchies! read more

This place sales the worst Shomosa. I bought Shomosas, which were rotten inside. Slimy (due to microbial growth inside) and bitter in taste. I got belly-eche immediately after eating the Shomosas. Most probably, those were 3/4 days old. There was no taste of the food at all. The most bad customer service I received when visited back to them and told them the fact. One of their employees told me to leave the place (he said, 'get out, go to hospital!'). No one ever expect such kind of behavior to the customer from a reputed restaurant on Bank Street, Ottawa. read more

I want to start off by pointing out that the sign says Shawarma King, but their website and menus and Shawarma'S King. I have a few friends that were under the impression that they were two different places, but it's all the same. I started ordering delivery from Shawarma's King when I was in my first year at Carleton, and even though I moved away for a couple years after graduation, every time I came back to visit I would always try to get a shawarma there. Now that I've moved back to Ottawa, I'm glad they're still making them the way they always have. They've expanded their menu in recent years to include more combos and two different shawarma sizes, small and large. The prices have also gone up a few bucks, so it may not be as cheap as you remember, but still a good deal. I've had their beef and mixed shawarma platters, which is a ridiculous amount of food that includes salad and both rice and garlic potatoes, though you can opt for just potatoes and no rice, or vice-versa. A lot of the time they overcook the beef to make it crispy, and the potatoes can be really, really greasy, but OH-MY-GOD is their garlic sauce amazing! I always ask for it on the side, as well as inside my shawarma sandwich. It's literally pureed fresh garlic, and, no joke, you'll have to brush thrice, use mouthwash, chew gum, and shower just go get the taste of the garlic our of your mouth and stop it from seeping out of your pores. I've never had any other garlic sauce this potent, including restaurants in Toronto. Even with all of that in mind, it's just so good that you can't help yourself! I've recommended it to friends from Toronto that visit Ottawa, and they all agree with me that it's by far the best garlic sauce they've ever had. Their Cocktail King drink might seem pricey, but it's like eating a really sweet and refreshing fruit salad, so it's good to eat after your meal if you need something to help cut the grease. If you're looking for dessert, they also include 1 piece in most of their sandwich combos, or you can purchase a whole box of 8. They're open incredibly late (until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays), they always deliver within 40 minutes max, and they offer Interact on delivery. By far my favorite shawarma joint in town! I usually get a "custom made" one of garlic sauce, hummus, tahini, cauliflower, eggplant, white rice, tabouleh and all the fixings...oh ya, and extra time on the grill...love it crispy! Warning, their garlic sauce is inconsistent. Personally, I love it when it's super garlicky but sometimes you can hardly detect it's there at all....and I find that it makes or breaks how awesome the shawarma is. I came to Shawarma King on a Saturday and got a small mixed (beef + chicken) shawarma. It was SO good. Filling, lots of meat, garlic was delicious, etc. It cost $6. In fact, it was so good that I came back on Sunday to try a large chicken shawarma. Again, it was delicious, filling, etc. The large was $9. They also have an extra-large size, but I found both the small and the large to be quite filling. They have an additional BBQ menu which looked delicious, but was a bit more expensive. They also had combos where you could have garlic potatoes, rice, salad, etc which looked good too for comparable prices as elsewhere (I believe the plates were about $12-15 depending, including a canned drink). They do catering for larger groups. All in all, this is one of the best shawarma places I've been to in Ottawa. read more

Ordered from Shawarma King via JustEat.ca I was very pleased with the delivery time. I called in to modify my order less than 10 mins after submitting it and the driver had already been sent out. It was fresh as well. I had the beef shawarma sandwich and ordered a chicken plate for the next day (with potatoes). The potatoes don't warm up well but the rest does. My only issue was that I ordered a pineapple juice and got a guava one instead. I RECOMMEND: Avoiding shawarma deliveries if you don't like everything in your sandwich. It's really hard to designate your toppings on the justeat.ca website. EXTRA TIP: Garlic and hommous/hummus. Always. Or what's the point?! read more

My favourite shawarma joint in Ottawa. Which is saying something, since you probably know there are some several hundred shawarma restaurants in this city. They are always open late and still cooking fresh food well into the am. They are probably the only place in Ottawa I trust to order from after 2am. This location has been my go-to 'after bar' order and I always get the large chicken shawarma (sandwich). I understand the owner is an immigrant from my chats with him and I always feel good supporting this business. The restaurant is neat, tidy, and always inviting, even in the dead of winter. We came here thinking it was Shawarma Palace, so we were extremely disappointed with what we got. My friends got the beef shawarma and it was so dry that they needed to put something on it, and since we got take out, all we had was ketchup....My falafel shawarma was bland and tasteless and also super dry. The decor is kind of tacky and grungy looking. The service was good though and the employees were friendly. I really wouldn't come back considering how dry the meat was. This is my favourite shawarma place in Ottawa and I have been coming here for years. The wraps are usually fresh and tasty with generous amounts of fillings. The meat has tons of flavour. I have also often had the falafel wrap as well, which was also loaded eith flavour. The thing I love most about this place is their delicious rich creamy garlic sauce, which pairs well with the roasted potatoes. The prices are reasonable as you actually get quite a lot of food and often it's hard to finish a whole meal. They do have 3 different sized wraps to accommodate all appetites. Sometimes I get the extra large one and just save half of it for later.... still good! They can be quite busy during peak hours but usually it is friendly and fast service. The atmosphere is like a typical fast food restaurant so not much to expect there. The only suggestion I would have for improvement is that sometimes the potatoes don't seem to be totally fresh. Overall I like this place and plan to keep coming back when I'm in the mood for a fresh delicious chicken shawarma wrap. read more

Bigger portions then Shawarma palace and better service (saw previous comparisons to that establishment down the street). Service here was also good - Not overly rushed and carelessly thrown together despite the place being busy. Happily put garlic on the side instead of throwing it all over my food like most places. It was really late into the night, about 12:30, so after looking for a place that was still open and delivered, we decided on here. Plus a friend had said good things about the place. I ordered 2 chicken shawarma sandwich combos online. The order came about 50 minutes later. The young delivery guy was completely indifferent, and was quickly out on his way. Have never tried this place before and happy I gave it a shot. I ordered an extra large chicken shawarma combo (I'm fat and enjoy food). Server loaded extra spicy garlic sauce on my potatoes which was truly fantastic. I wasn't a huge fan of the potatoes but the garlic sauce made up for it. The shawarma was huge and delicious and all the veggies and extras to load on it were very fresh and looked it. I can eat a lot of food but I couldn't even finish it. Got take out from this place a few times mainly because it's open late and I work nights, last few times the meal has been somewhat adequate and the service wholly and truly atrocious several times the wrong meal or several parts of it has been sent to my colleagues and myself, left out items that never get brought though its included in the meal, being charged for condiments that every other shawarma restaurant gives free (most people would assume garlic potatoes comes with garlic). I lived in the Middle East for years and when I returned home, I was sad that I would never be able to enjoy the great Lebanese food I used to enjoy at my local hangout called Canary in downtown Kuwait. When I arrived in Ottawa, I was surprised to see so many Arabs living here (I never thought I would see women in abayas again!). In fact, I've been told that 10% of Ottawa is made up of Lebanese people who came over in the 80s and the 90s. I spoke to many of the Arab people I met and asked them where to find the best, most authentic Lebanese food. Every person I met told me the same name: Shawarma King. And, they did not lie. Shawarma King has all the foods I fell in love with - chicken, lamb and beef shawarmas and falafel. Their hummous is fresh and delicious and they make those fresh fruit and honey drinks that I used to gulp down by the gallon back in the day. Previously I had reviewed that Shawarma King had some customer service standard problems. While the food was very good, I did not find people working there very friendly. As a result I had not returned for a long time. Well I was driving down Bank Street and a favourite restaurant I had planned to eat at was closed so I decided to give it another shot. When I entered I immediately saw a large Canadian flag overhead near the menus and it made me feel optimistic that indeed things had been brought up to a North American standard of service. I ordered a beef Shawarma and while the young man serving me was not overly friendly it was passable. He made me a chicken Shawarma and I chalked that error up to him perhaps being hard of hearing or not speaking very good English. I let that go, still hopeful that service at the cash was better. An older man rung up my order silently then looked at me without smiling as the total came up on the screen. No words or that will be $6.80 or anything at all. I gave him the money and still no thank you for the business or anything at all. This business should realize that if customers leave their premises with a more positive vibe then repeat business is more likely.
