We had a 50+ year old non-standard lock that we needed to fix. Another locksmith "service" sent someone to the house for an $80 fee just to look and told us it would cost hundreds of dollars. I removed the lock and brought it to Shaw's actual, local store in Bergenfield, and they quickly understood what I needed and very inexpensively made the repair. My advice - don't use a "service" claiming to be in the area that then subs out a job, but find an actual, established local locksmith. We couldn't be more happy with Shaw's work and we'll definitely use them again. read more

While I didn't actually end up using their service I will definitely be keeping them in mind in the future for their thorough and friendly help just on the phone. I called to request a lock fix or change and the associate on the phone asked me plenty of details to understand the lock I had and what service I would need. After sharing the details and even sending a photo of the current lock, he informed me of the price just to come out but offered amazing advice saying he didn't think it was complicated to fix myself and recommended I take out some screws and replace with a new battery. The hole process took me about 15 minutes and everything was perfect. The fact that this place didn't try to scam me in any way and in fact provided me with the best solution all in a less than 10 minute call shows their dedication to quality service and putting customers first. Bought an inexpensive lock, made in China, and asked if it was possible to re-key it. Shaw's rekeyed it and only charged me $13 total!!!!!! WOW I will definitely use Shaw's again read more

I used them before for keys and they were excellent, knew what they were doing when other key places couldn't figure it out. I went back to get 2 sets made, 2 Schlage and 2 small mail box keys and I saw the guy ring up $2.50 on the register then the screen blanked out and the last charge was for $1.88, total $9.34 for 4 keys, paid cash no receipt was offered. After I left, it was bothering me since even if prices had gone up from last Sep, at $2.50 per Schlage and $1.50 per small mail box key that is $8 and tax would be 52 cents. The only thing that might account for the discrepancy was he charge me $1.88 for the thin round key ring, since in the past I would get loose keys back but I didn't ask for the cheap key ring nor did the guy tell me he was charging me for the key ring. With the prices of everything going up, it is disappointing that what I thought was a trusted vendor would sneak in an up-charge without saying anything. I like to patronized local business but nobody wants to get ripped off. I was going to go back with a more expensive job but after this, I don't feel I can trust this business anymore. read more

A friend of mine had A car key snap, right in the middle of the teeth. They did not live in the area. I went to A few locksets, to see if they could make a replacement. All three, handed me back the key. I went to Shaw's, And they took their time, even using files, to make a perfectly fitting key, and a couple of replacements. They charged their normal price, for cutting a key. I drove back to the car, and they all worked perfectly. They have always been great. I don't live in the Bergenfield area anymore, but if I need a locksmith, I always take the ride. read more
