This is one of the best Shaw's around. We don't shop at Shaw's often and when we do, we shop here. The store is always neat and organized. We always find what we are looking for, unlike it's major competitor in the area. The prices aren't the greatest, but when they are the only one selling certain grocery items, I can't complain. We haven't had too many interactions with Staff members, because we usually use self-checkout. What I will say, is that the staff does a great job keeping the store well stocked and clean. The parking lot is usually chaos, because it's shared with other neighboring businesses. They still have the "old fashioned" bottle can return machines...if you have the patience to use them. The grocery selection is great, and I always find what I need here. The music isn't so loud that you're distracted, which helps when you have to pay attention to your list! I'm only taking off a couple stars because the employee that scanned my groceries kind of just pushed them aggressively towards me to bag, without saying a word. Weird vibe. And I had to bag my own groceries? Is that not a thing anymore, or is it just that they're understaffed? read more

Had the best time going up and down all the isles. Looking for all those yummy things that Maine has to offer. There was one item, the Fluff, I went up and down the isles like 5 times each. I'm like how hard can it be? Finally someone helped me cause maybe I looked a little frantic. I never would have found it on my own. Bottom shelf, and covers by a card board display. I think it's appropriate to give a good score for this place to balance out the poor reviews left by others. I had a conversation with my neighbor who informed me this place *used* to be pretty bad, but "recently" had an overhaul and is now much better. This place is the closest to me, so when I finally gave it a try I found nothing wrong with it. I do think the layout is slightly unconventional, but like any new grocery store, you just get used to the layout and your rat in a maze path will eventually figure itself out. They've rarely not had items that I wanted, but on certain days they weren't yet stocked for the day. It's not a flawless experience, but I've had no real complaints. There is a USPS in the store at customer service, but they are quite limited in what services the offer, i.e. they don't do international packages. They do domestic and you can drop off int'l letters no problem. There is a bottle and can deposit machine next to the shopping carts, so if you're the type to collect your 5¢ after a nice refreshing Diet Coke, then this is your place! Keeping in mind that I do come in late morning or early afternoon most of the time, so I can't speak to the experience during "after work" hours, but this is officially my go-to grocery store from now on. read more

I prefer uncrowded grocery stores, so I don't mind the negative reviews, however I find them unwarranted. The stores layout was recently completely overhauled a few months ago, therefore you can put the past reviews to rest. This is my weekly grocery store and compared to hannafords I find it, personally significantly better. For one, it's smaller and easier to navigate than Whole Foods or Hannafords. They have prime beef, rack of lamb, an assortment of fresh herbs, all of which Hannaford's lacks. I've heard Shaws is significantly more expensive than Hannaford's, however I noticed the Lamb is least is 5 dollars cheaper a pound at shaws (loin) I'm not sure about paper towels etc. Also, the grocery staff I've interacted with have all been so warm and quick to find the most esoteric item. 5 Stars read more

I dig this Route 1 area of Falmouth: it feels like a proper village, with every essential (for locals, not tourists) you could think of within a mile or so strip of driving. Unfortunately, this Shaw's is the lone grocery store and it's a real blemish on an otherwise extremely quaint small town's shopping area. Here's what I'm not a fan of: It's filthy inside this store. It feels like it's never been updated. The layout is bizarre. The shelves always seem half empty. The produce looks sad. The organic section looks really sad. The checkout process is excruciatingly slow. There's nothing here that other grocery stores don't have. I will say there's always parking and it's never busy, so that's a good thing. But I just don't know why you'd come here when there are better options within a few minutes drive, y'know? I just think this Shaw's is in desperate need of a serious makeover; that really could/would change everything (also, please bring back self-checkout lanes). read more

This Falmouth Shaws is the worst Shaws I've ever been to. You can't get any help at the deli or seafood counters. I walked away twice this week. There's rarely more than one register open if that. The manager told me that I can "leave his store" when I got frustrated at the self check out. All I wanted was my reciept but I had to wait and wait and wait. Even if you are waiting the longest, when others need help they will walk right past you to help a woman first. So much for equal rights. read more

I live nearby, try to "shop local", and have been a customer of Falmouth (ME) Shaw's for 10+ years. Today was the last straw for me. 1. Their advertising ephasizes the savings you can get by syncing your phone to the check-out and using for-U, but . . . there is no reliable internet service in the store! This doesn't even pass the straight-face test! I asked two emplayees (both very friendly) and they agreed. One said the internet might work if I try "standing in the bakery aisle" (didn't work) and the other said I should try the cart area outside of the produce department (freeziing out there and had to leave my cart inside but Shaw's wi-fi finally worked there.) Why offer these savings if we can't access them? 2. Once I "clipped" the forUcoupons I wanted In the cold cart area!), the items I clipped (ground beef for $1.97 lb. and John Martin Applewood bacon for $2.97 lb.) were not available. In face, the spots where they should have been were completely empty. Total frustration and waste of my time. 3. Having achieved no forU savings, I took the few items I really needed and headed for the registers. Snow is expected tomorrow so the store was very busy BUT, as usual, there were only TWO registers open. People were lined up down two of the grocery aisles. I was 8th in my line. Everyone was frustrated. So . . . Dear Shaw's: I am DONE. I'm breaking up with you for good this time. You have lost another long-time customer to Hannaford. p.s. I don't have any complaints about the store or the employees. On 11/17 I bought a frozen turkey for Thanksgiving. I paid 14.77 for a 11 1/2 lb. Thawed it in the fridg. It was the worst turkey I have ever had. Skin was tough and had a pink tint to it, too late to do anything about it then. I am not new to cooking, I have been around for 74 years. This was one tough bird. I am cooking the bones and meat now to make soup stock. Maybe I can get some flavor that way. From now on I am sticking with fresh. Thank goodness I made enough vegetables and desserts to compensate my guests. Unhappy Thanksgiving. read more

I made my routine, Sunday trip to Shaw's in Falmouth, ME yesterday for the Sunday newspaper and to purchase bagels for my wife and me. I decided to purchase the 12 bagels for $5.00 that the sign on the bagel display clearly stated for customers to see. There was no other signage indicating one had to follow a special protocol in order to select and qualify for the $5.00 Sunday Bagel Special. I have photos of the display that prove my point and hope to be able to show them in this review. I chose to place the 12 bagels in the clear plastic bags made available for customers and readily present in the center of the bagel display. Freshness counts and contact with others' hands at checkout or with the grocery cart was on my mind. 12 bagels are 12 bagels...whether they are in a brown paper bag or in a more secure and safer plastic bag. When I went to the Checkout, the cashier, Ben C manually counted every bagel in each bag...he wasn't using a delicate touch technique either...his method of counting the bagels reminded me of a machine ready to crush the contents of the items inside the clear plastic bag. Ben C, the cashier, stated that he would have to charge me the regular price of $0.89 per bagel because the bagels were not in a "bagel bag" with a bar code on the bag. I immediately pushed my internal, Senior Citizen "defense mode" button and told him that there was nothing present at the bagel display to indicate to customers that one had to use a special bag. The Senior Cashier in the next checkout aisle said that signage was clearly present and that I was wrong. OK....Humiliate me in front of other customers, but make sure that what you are saying is correct. No, I will state it more appropriately..."DO NOT HUMILIATE or DEMEAN ME IN FRONT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS". Let's talk for a moment about bar codes on products. As a side note...let's say for this example that I pick up 4 Parsnips from the Produce Department, place them in a clear, plastic bag and go to the checkout. There is no "Bar Code" on the bag or a special number tag on the Parsnips, yet the cashier plugs in a number for Parsnips as the bag of said Parsnips is on the scale at the checkout area. The scale reads the weight and the register makes the appropriate charge on the customer's checkout list. Why then cannot a cashier do the same for 12 bagels in a clear, plastic bag? I was both humiliated and angry. I immediately went back to the bagel display and took two pictures of the display on my iPhone. There are no special instructions present that the Senior Cashier emphatically referenced when I attempted to check out. I returned to the Senior Cashier and showed her my iPhone. I told her that I had recorded time-stamped photos of what was present for customers to see. She immediately stated, "I just told my Bakery Manager to put up proper signage." With that, she conceded that the proper signage was not present and that her earlier statement to both myself and cashier Ben C. was a lie. The most humiliating thing about this whole ordeal occurred as I walked away from the checkout area in order to exit the store. The female, Senior Cashier stated to people in her checkout line, "He certainly is out of line and made quite a scene." That did it for me. I felt embarrassed, demeaned, slandered and humiliated. I made a purchase in good faith, made proper payment and was treated like dirt. That is probably the last time I will go to that store. This is the absolute worst place on earth. I only went there because it's close to the Planet Fitness in Falmouth. 1. There was 1 register open and the line was 18 deep from my count. 2. The lady at checkout was HELPLESS. She was slow, and did not care about anything. 3. She called for a manager while he was RIGHT BEHIND HER THE WHOLE TIME. Zero presence of mind. 4. She refused my ID. I'm a 29 y/o doctor. I had my ID and passport and all I wanted was the wine in my hand. 5. The manager apologized and accepted my ID. +1 point However, too little too late. My family shopped at Shaw's for decades and I even worked there throughout college. I live less than 2miles away and normally shop there for convenience. I cook for one and have a limited budget. I am tired of all the limitations on their sales. Some examples: must by 5, meats are generally only on sale if you buy 3lbs or more, mix and match must buy 6 or 10. Even for bogos, if I wanted 2, I would get 2. What am I going to do with 2 loaves of bread? Come on Shaw's, let's get with it. There are a lot of elderly 1 or 2 person households. I never buy 6 of anything and I have limited freezer space. I can't travel far but I will make it to Hannaford's. read more

This store is in a very convenient location for me, and it is the only reason I shop there. At least twice a week there are no carts inside because they are all in the parking lot and they often have only two registers open with lines that go back into the aisles. Plan to bag your own groceries even when you see employees standing around chatting. Also, check your receipt, as prices and "deals" marked on the items as you shop often do not show up at the register. Also check your receipt to be sure you are only charged once for each item, and when they assure you a duplicate scan is voided and you don't see it on the screen that shows what is rung in, you are likely correct and will have to go to the customer service counter to get your money refunded. read more

This location is my go to Shaw's. While I prefer Hannaford or Trader Joe's in town Portland, my sanity and my wallet do not. So, I go to Shaw's in Falmouth because I can usually get everything I want without breaking the bank. The produce can be hit or miss here. Every single time I get scallions from here they are limp the very next day...so frustrating! The avocado selection is also hit or miss. The meat selection is excellent and the quality has always been pretty good. However, the other day I went there and bought frozen boneless grilled chicken tenders and when I got home and opened the bag all of the contents had a ton of freezer burn and ice within the bag. I checked the expiration date and it said October 2017! I plan to return this next time I go grocery shopping. Hopefully they won't put up a stink. But I mean, really? It's over a year expired! These few speed bumps are annoyances, yes, but it's not going to stop me from coming here because the prices are right and I don't feel like it's demolition derby inside. They could use some improvements, but overall are A-OK. read more

I have done the pick-up orders several times now. Twice now I have been charged double. They do a pending charge and then if they don't have something in stock so they substitute (product cost more than ordered) they charge your account again! When I call they say due to one being the initial pending charge it will take 3-5 days to fall off my account. They said it was okay because they have a little pop up that goes across your screen before you finalize. read more

I don't know why the reviews of this place are so bad. Granted, nicer options exist in Portland; however, this meets our needs close to home. The only negatives I have seen with this place is the lines are occasionally long/slow and they do not have a meat counter (only packaged meats). I stopped by here one time to get groceries of course and the set up is a little different, but not bad once I figured it out. The people are friendly and their meat dept., bakery and deli are very nice and allot to choose from and clean. I hate going to stores where you have to fight off fruit flies...I'm sorry, but thats gross and I don't buy food from places that have that issue. I understand all stores have creepy crawlies, but I don't want to know it or see it when buying my food! I now have made this my Shaw store to go to and if you go here, remember to bring bags or they charge, due to the new bag law that took effect in Falmouth (I get that, too, but what a pain!) I am not giving them a 5 star only because its a chain store and you already know what to expect in chain stores, but I would give the workers that I have been helped from a 5. They were ALL outdated! I started to explain to the cashier about the expired yogurt..she brushed me off & nodded her head. My mother recently went shopping for me at the Shaws supermarket in Falmouth ME and upon checkout there was an issue with my debit card. We'd just moved to ME and though my out of state bank knew we'd moved, the debit card system turned off access to my card to protect my account when the bill was over 200.00. My mother and sons tried several times to use the card all to no avail. After several attempts, one of the managers at the store told the cashier that it was taken care of, that someone else had paid the bill but they refused to give the identity. I'm so humbled by the kindness of whomever paid this bill whether it was the store or an anonymous person. The cashier and the manager were so very respectful of my family while we were trying to work out what was happening. Just as my bank turned access on to my card, my mother was notified that the bill had been paid and they wouldn't let her pay it. I haven't had anything but wonderful encounters with the people here in Maine and the Shaws staff and anonymous patron have helped to reconfirm my decision to move my family to this location. Shaws in Falmouth, MA is the most frustrating store I've ever shopped in. Shelves are almost always empty of a whote range of items. Generally the only people you see restocking the shelves are vendors. There's evidently some kind of systemic problem with their supply chain that they can not keep up with the need of the customers in Falmouth. I highly recommend that you take the time and travel the distance to Market Basket in Sandwich under the bridge which is always well stocked. read more

I work no more than a mile from the store and generally like to stop by and get lunch at the salad bar. But, increasingly over the past year, the wait time to get through a checkout has dramatically increased coupled with the decreasing lack of cashiers. This is problem 1. Problem 2 concerns customer service, which is TERRIBLE. Completely unfriendly and unhelpful. Problem 3 is the fact that the self checkout stations are often left with errors (see cashier for assistance) and not fixed by the employees. Today, I wandered around for 15 mins trying to check out. Finally, a self checkout station opened up, but had an error. I stood around for a couple of minutes until finally an manager (I believe) looked over at me with and said, exasperated, I'll be with you in a couple of seconds. I had already made my mind up to leave (I had to get back to work) and as I pass her I comment "I've been trying to check out for fifteen minutes. You need to open more registers." Her response was to turn her back to me. You guys need to get it together. This location is terrible and you've lost a customer. I work in retail and this is totally unacceptable behavior. I would be out of business if I treated my customers in this fashion. EDIT: apparently this sh$tty company is in the process of being taken over to avoid bankruptcy. read more

Eh. It's a grossers store nothing special. They have what you need in an organized fashion. However the meat is not the healthiest/freshest option. The employees are somewhat helpful, but some of them really don't have a clue. The wait to checkout is very long which is expected in a grocery store, but that can be prevented with more employees. The only reason Shaws is getting 2 stars instead of 2 because they have what you need, and not all locations are like this. read more

I'm not one to review unless I've had a really BAD experience or a really GOOD experience, or a few bad experiences in less than a week! I work right down the street and like to grab a salad bar for lunch on a lot of days. The past couple months have been ridiculous. First, they took out all the self express lanes. There are express lanes still, but they are the furthest away from the "quick" food. So if you pop in for a salad bar or to grab a sandwich at the deli, the express lanes are the furthest from the deli. Weird.... This week I grabbed a salad and the chicken was frozen. I then walked the length of the store to check out my 2 things. Then I stood in line for at least 10 minutes.(it was lunchtime in busy little town) Today, I go to grab another salad. At least the chicken wasn't frozen, but of course there were two express lanes open, two closed, lines backed up to the aisle and I counted at least 3 employees just hanging around watching?? -Again, it was 11:45 am...LUNCHTIME. Like what? To top it off, the post office only accepts cash or checks.... OK........ so after getting $20 out and being told that a next day deliver would be $23, I about lost it. I've worked down the street for 4 years and this Shaws has always been my go to for my salad bar with chicken. It has continuously gotten worse... employees are slow and don't seem to care that the lines are backed up and that most people may be in a hurry to get back to work at noontime.
