Great Shaws (though I think it is Star Market now) in Harwich. Huge supermarket and not crowded at all. Good quality food at a reasonable price. We got a bunch of stuff here for homemade taco bowls and everything was so fresh and delicious. Their cheese selection is also advanced, which is important to me. Lots of cheeses to choose from. This is a review for the floral department. My sister got engaged on Cape Cod and we wanted to send them flowers. We ordered via Flowers By Eva for a bouquet to be delivered-they outsource the order to a local florist. We paid $105 for them including delivery. This Shaw's/Star is fairly well maintained and incredibly clean. Shelves were almost always stocked, except possibly some meat and produce areas which were running low. There's lots of specialty stations around the sides and in the deli area. There's also quite a few self-checkout stations. Sale prices and loss-leaders are relatively competitive. But a lot of the regular prices are significantly higher. You could do a lot worse at other grocery stores on the Cape. read more

My compliments to Management for hiring the correct people in customer service. I was shopping at 9pm last night (who likes to shop at 9pm? I sure don"t) but the Smiles, Attitude, and concern for Customer service made my purshasing experience enjoyable. On a good day in this store you'll be lucky to get service... If you're asking for delivery forget about it.. I don't have a choice. I have to shop with these idiots. They haven't got a order right in a year.. They actually spite customers.. They also upsell you when they're not supposed to be. They have the items in the store. That's the one I want... But no they upsell you 5 to ten dollars more.. Out of ten orders i'm gonna say one was right.. I'm not sure whether there employees know how to read right. I'm not sure but they don't get anything right in that store.. And when you go there in person there mean as hell.. Nasty nasty people.. Screaming and yelling at customers.. They did start cleaning the cheese/meat slicers at the deli at 8 one evening and seemed reluctant to use a slicer again for my order. But that may have been a one off. This is the closest grocery store to the Cape house, so its where I shop during the summer while I am there. It's actually a very big supermarket, which is surprising for Harwichport. I am guessing Hyannis and Yarmouth folks probably come here to avoid the crowds in the more populated towns. The selection is great and you can find almost anything you are looking for. The only issue I have is that the layout is a bit confusing in that most stores put similar items together. Here, the BBQ sauce might be a few isles over from the ketchup and mustard ... the pepperoni might be on the other side of the store from the cheese, etc. We walked around for a few minutes before we could find the pre-mixed party dip. Star Markets/Shaws supermarkets tend to be the low end of the spectrum when it comes to shopping ... the produce is always not very fresh and the bread section usually includes mostly icky store made from a mix breads. I have to admit, the bread section at this Star/Shaws is better than any other. Still doesn't compare to Wholefoods, but still ... you can find a good sour dough boulee or fresh Italian bread here. Pretzel rolls! The seafood department is second to none. It's hard to buy seafood from Star when you have lots of local seafood markets on the Cape, however I am always amazed at this store's seafood selection. They have the biggest King Crab legs I have seen (outside of Pike Place market in Seattle) ... we usually pick up a bunch of these. At $20 per pound, its a bit of a splurge but one of these huge crab legs is a good meal for a person (maybe with a small steak to make unbelievable surf and turf). They also have local steamers, etc. for cheaper than George's seafood stand down the street. The market is very clean and feels new and modern. They even have grills and lawn furniture in the front of the store and a Redbox machine for DVDs. The produce we get from here is pretty good and fresher than a lot of the other Star/Shaws stores I've been in. The exception being the oranges which had almost no juice in them. You won't find many upscale grocery stores on Cape Cod but this fills in nicely. They have a good combination of the staples you need when you are on vacation and the little luxury items you want to treat yourself to. I'd recommend to make this your shopping stop if you are on Cape Cod for the summer ... or for the week. If only they sold liquor like the stores in CA ... read more

The following took place from 9:42 PM to 10:02 PM at Shaw's Market in Harwich. With an insatiable craving for tiramisu, I had driven roughly 8 minutes in a frantic attempt to satisfy both myself and female companion who will remain anonymous. Upon rolling into the parking lot, I witnessed an employee going above and beyond to help some poor confused soul (undoubtably from the Tri-State area) return his cart. Once inside, I took the long route, and ended up making a B line towards the bakery after hitting the frozen food/dessert aisle. After twice circling the collection of cakes on display, I had confined myself to the realization that the best I was going to do was some pre-made frozen edition of the dessert. Frantically pacing the aisle, I was befuddled to find there was nothing remotely related to the Misu family of desserts. In a last ditch and desperate attempt, I asked two employees (who in all reality should have been mentally and physically clocked out by now) if they knew where to find Tiramisu. One gentlemen tried pointing me towards the soup aisle, while another girl ran to her manager to ask if it was alright that a customer use the "rest room". (The willingness to help someone who they could barely understand through no fault of their own struck me. What incredible people I was dealing with. When the manager came over, we had a laugh over the miscommunication and the story could have ended there. Albeit it does not... The manager made the call to the bullpen and brought in the specialist. Reminiscent to the scene in field of dreams, this young kid, came jogging towards us (seemingly outta left). He was a self proclaimed dessert specialist, and spent a solid 5 minutes of his time sifting through the past couple days worth of different varieties of frozen cakes. While I eventually settled for a carrot cake, the kindness, enthusiasm, and extraordinary lengths these employees went through to help a lunatic like me out was the most inspiring thing I saw all day. Thank you to all those who went above and beyond. Often times the crew doesn't get the credit it deserves because they work behind the scenes. Not here. Not this time. read more

The store gets one star because the selection of food is good. When I checked out the checker was so rude (young man with dark brown hair). I am from out of town and didn't know you have to bag your groceries and he just was so rude after I asked him. Then seemed ticked off when I bought the bags. I tried Shaw's online delivery service four times before saying, "Torment me no more!" Firstly, they don't have their own trucks as does Stop & Shop. They use Uber, Lyft and restaurant meal delivery people who are VERY unreliable, nasty, abusive and rude. I received three deliveries, one of which was accompanied with a slur. A very crude, bitter, unkempt "man" called me a "fa**ot" which was very cutting and hurtful. The fourth delivery was the final straw. I called Shaw's online delivery customer service and the store on Sisson in Harwich numerous times, afraid I would not receive my mid-evening grocery delivery for my meal for 6 later that evening. I spoke with the on-duty store manager, "Jay", who spoke with me after the customer service desk clerk, Diane, hung up on me. He swore up and down that the delivery was on its' way. He also called me an "a***ole" without any sort of provocation. I never received my grocery order that evening. Needless to say, I told them to delete my account and I never ordered from them again. read more

I wanted to take the time to leave a good review since too many people are quick to leave a bad one. I visit this store often since I have family on the Cape. When I come into town to visit my family, we usually go together but sometimes I go alone too. My experience in this store is always a pleasant one and I've actually never seen anything expired (as some reviews stated)! The store is clean and everyone is helpful. Matt and Keith are the two names I do know from the meat department since I always find myself back there asking questions and chatting with them. Thanks to them both for a good experience every time. The cashiers are always friendly too. I'm from the central NY area where Wegmans is prevalent. I regularly go to this place, since I now live almost across the street; it is much more convenient. It takes a while to get used to the layout, and unlike Stop & Shop, they do not post store directories around at convenient places. It's a smaller store, and does not have quite the breadth of selections as the competition. Yet the bakery is exceptional, and I find it the best in the area, including the smaller dedicated bakeries. It used to have a good house brand but now they have switched to one in California, that means your eggs travelled over 3000 miles. Prices are fairly competitive, and there are three self checkout lanes - not nearly enough. All in all, not bad and it's important to have competition in grocery stores. read more

If you have become accustomed to the simple Stop and Shop rewards program, you may find the rewards program at Shaw's very disappointing. My wife and I have tried on more than four occasions to use their "my list" app entering our phone number at the register only to find that it doesn't actually work. When bringing it to the attention of customer service the standard reply has been "you didn't enter your phone number at check out". This is obvious BS to cover an issue within their system. If others having had the same experience, as I expect there are, they should take a moment to post a review here. Maybe then management will take action to address this frustrating "savings program". read more

Once again this market has disappointed in the same area....EXPIRED FOOD. Make sure you read all the labels as I have purchased countless items that have expired. Yogurt, Cooking Oil, and now most recently Stacys Chips. I noticed immediately after opening the smell (rancid oil has a distinct smell to it). Disregarding and delving in without checking the date on the package, I ate a chip and knew immediately they were well past the expiration date....Todays date is Jan 14, 2019.....The expiration date on the package was Aug 14, 2018!!! There is absolutely no need for this. All items should be checked daily for expired items and removed. I feel that either their daily operations are lax or non-existent OR they simply know the majority of their clientele is elderly and won't realize expired goods. Either way I will no longer be shopping there as I don't trust their standards. Buyer beware. You are better off making the added mileage and visiting Stop & Shop, Ring Bros, or go to Hyannis to WholeFoods market where you are certain to get top grade food and excellent service. read more
