It's very convenient and good alternative to one of the larger chains. However, a very recent change of using a different supplier for their cookies was a big mistake. People are commenting on social media on how much they dislike the new cookies and i know it was a big seller for them. I'm guessing they are trying to increase margins by using another supplier but They will lose a lot more with poor sales. I just had the most extraordinary experience with Chatham Village Market. I live in GA, and my daughter in Boston. She was visiting Chatham for her birthday with friends. I wanted to send over 2 bottles of very expensive champagne for their celebration. Not only did Chatham Village Market have the exact champagnes I wanted to send, but they were willing to chill it, gift bag it AND write a card for me for her to pick up! The customer service of this market is off the charts! They could have just said no that I was asking too much, but it was a spur of the moment situation that they willingly accepted to do in the most gracious way. I simply cannot rave enough that on the multiple calls I gave them concerning this, they went WAY above the call of duty to make my wish happen. This is the kind of store you want to support! Some of the most rude staff you will ever come across. I'm sure it's not easy to deal with tourists all season, but really you could at least be somewhat nice. Terrible selections and watch the expiration dates before you check-out. The location is great and easy grocery store to navigate. It has the potential to be an exceptional grocer. Owners, who are also just plain rude to customers, need to invest in major upgrades, grab some enthusiasm, and an influx of Whole Foods market concept. Take a trip over to WF in Hyannis or the Ring Brothers in Denis to see how being in the grocery business operates and implement some major changes. We loved this little market! Because of size and location, it is probably a little more expensive than other nearby store but it had a great selection, especially in the bakery. Years ago, Chatham had not one, mind you, but TWO A&P's. One of those locations became the Ocean State Job Lot. Fortunately, the Village Market somehow evolved from that other store--in some type of later arrangement with CVS when renovations and reconstruction occurred. Both the CVS and the Village Market look nice. The Village Market is about convenience, local employees, food, wine and beer. Yes, it is pricy. Just picked up the two Thanksgiving dinners ordered the other day. Plans were to heat them up tomorrow ((Thanksgiving). But the dinners were so plentiful, we decided to split one tonight and have the other tomorrow. Turkey was perfectly done. It might be worth it if the staff were helpful or friendly, however, both times I ventured in this week I was treated with absolute contempt. So this is an employee owned store which was once an A&P. When A&P went bankrupt, the employees bought it out and opened the Chatham Village Market. They have one of the best butcher counters anywhere! Dry aged steaks, lamb, chicken, etc. The butcher will get you whatever you need and is very helpful if you are preparing an unfamiliar cut of meat. They also have a small but we'll run bakery on site. Always well stocked and what they give up with respect to variety, they more than make up for with quality. Prices are pretty steep but this is a small market which is so convenient, don't sweat the prices! I would give it 5 stars if the prices were a bit lower. But for a market, it easily gets 4 stars. I just moved into Chatham today and paid a visit to pick up some Turkey and Swiss Cheese. After using the rest room, Bob the Owner confronted me in front of customers that I I was seen stealing meatballs. Really Meat balls, where would I have hidden them? At no point did he ask what I did with the meatballs he just blantly accused me. After being humilated NY in me came out Bobcalled the police who then treated me like a common criminal. Other reviewers who complain about the prices obviously don't know they are in Chatham where NOTHING is cheap and should travel 15 minutes away to Stop and Shop in Harwich. I know they keep over 60 people in jobs and donate to all areas of the community including the food pantry. They have a variety of delicious foods and their meat is the best on Cape Cod. Service is always outstanding and the employees and owners always go out of their way to help me. They do home deliveries to the elderly who are unable to get to a store and have run other errands for them. The chicken pies are delicious especially when I do not want to cook. I own a home in Chatham. I pay taxes on my home, respect my neighbors and their proprties and I regularly spend money at local businesses in Chatham including the extremely overpriced Village Market. And almost without exception, the cashiers (an older woman is a repeat offender) yell across the checkout aisles to "locals" about "missing 'old Chatham'" or "only two more weeks" (of summer) to have deal with us awful people who make their jobs and local businesses possible. This eggregious, overt rudeness to my family has made me avoid ever shopping at the Village Market and without exception, when I have to resort to shopping there in an emergency, the cashiers say nasty things. I am so angry and sick of this that I will copy this message and post it wherever I can. In terms of the product they sell, they have yet to step into the decade and sell unprocessed food I prefer the Natural Food Market any day. read more
