Another awesome sale for an item I use daily called me. So back again today! After the weekend rush, Monday mornings tend to be quiet in most grocery stores. And that was the case here which I prefer. Entering - again the store is definitely COVID compliant. The store was very clean and well- stocked. I found exactly what I was there for in no time. Into the cart it went . Check out was a breeze. The cashier was friendly & also the nice woman who bagged my items. It was a great experience. Yes, again : For me this store is pricey and I only go here for a deal that just fcan't be beat. I usually shop at " the other store" across the parking lot which on the whole saves me money. read more

I was at this Storey Ave Newburyport MA Location today 7/1/2026 at 9:45 am I wanted to cash my lottery ticket in and the women at the Customer Service desk kept me waiting a long time before she appeared from the back with an attitude that it was a bother to help me with my Lottery Purchase.. She acted so rude , unbecoming of someone who rely on the public for business. All I wanted to do was cash in my winning ticket and purchase another. She insisted that they do not keep cash in the register, then proceeded to ask where the ticket was purchased and just completely being rude and obnoxious about the whole situation. All for nothing, what does it matter. her job is to check the ticket and then pay it out, without being rude and bitchy about it. Do not shop at this location (Newburyport) because of Lisa and John. ABUSIVE JOHN AND LISA AT CUSTOMER SERVICE. We went to return an item of which is was there's and John and Lisa abused and humliated me and my husband and John said the item was not there until he scanned and it was. he yelled and embarrassed us in front of 5 customers waiting in line. Really disappointed that they let people wonder around food preparation areas with their large dogs, fur flying possibly sh!tting in the isles. Are they friendly around my kids who knows. Why would you want that liability is beyond me. read more

I used to shop here all the time but now I only go for the sales. The woman who manages the store on Sundays is so rude and condescending. The prices are wrong and she will fight you and not follow the laws that they have posted right at the registers. On the bright side there is always plenty of parking. read more

Once again the wrong price on item. Waiting in line at customer service to get a credit for what I was overcharged. There is not enough help on a monday at 2pm. Hey Shaw's! No complaints. They don't have everything but they got a lot. The produce and dairy is fresher here than Market BAsket next door even if MB is cheaper overall. They have a good section devoted to all-natural products. I'd like to see a better international section. pass read more

Disgusting. Horrible management. Unfair to the employees. One employee is not mature enough to make it to the toilet and pees on the floor, so they terminate a 20 year employee. "Progressive discipline policy" my ass. The store is run by a slob who thinks people walking out the front door with a cart full of groceries "is just part of doing business" Overpriced. Dirty. Rude employees. I don't need attitude from an old hag cashier with her hand on her hip. Empty nips found in the bathroom. So I can see how seriously management takes their role here. We did a delivery to our vacation rental on Plum Island. Could not have been easier or better!!! No more lugging groceries for us!!

I met the new Store Manager (Director) today. His name is Chris and has worked for Shaw's (Albersons) for 25 years. It was early morning and I brewed my coffee but I had no creamer. When I arrived at the market, practically sleep walking to the front door, the Store Manager was dressed nicely, yet sweeping the front walkway and positioning things just right. When I exited the store, creamer and coffee danish in hand, Chris was still in sweeping mode. I had a very enjoyable conversation with him and I was able to share some of my thoughts and/or complaints with him. He was very receptive to my concerns and validated my complaints of not enough registers open, lines down to the middle of the aisles for the registers that were open, no "10 items or less" line and no self-checkout. He said he is working on the latter. We all have choices where to shop for our groceries. Yes, the "other one across the parking lot" or drive a little further to Stop & Shop. Shaw's does a hands down superior job when it comes to their fresh produce, their presentation of fresh fish as well as the "butcher" department. Yes, they are more expensive in most things, but as a bachelor, it is a much more pleasurable experience. They also have small green carts which are hard to find, but are perfect for the single person who doesn't need an SUV sized cart to do his shopping. :o) read more

Stopped in to grab some produce for dinner. Shaw's produce is very good. The store has no self check and during this visit, no minimum item checkout. I had six items and was stuck behind two shoppers with full carriages. This was not the first time this happened to me at this store, but it will be the last. read more

This place is always extremely clean when I enter the building, I have no problems with any employees. They are always extremely friendly and greet you when you come inside. Great service,great sales and great prices. Usually my go to grocery store. read more

While this is not our favorite grocery store (mainly because overall, they are VERY pricey), if you are looking for something a little different or exotic, this is the place to go. For example you can get individually packaged vac sealed duck breasts and thighs here.... and the price is reasonable. And I found orange bitters here as well (do you see duck a l'orange in our future?). Their produce department is probably my favorite place in the store. They have very fresh produce and an excellent variety, although sometimes it's hard to find things - stop moving things around already! And adjacent to it is my absolute favorite spot of all... the floral department. They always have an excellent selection of very fresh flowers that are priced to sell. Their in store bakery is also very good, although not as good as it used to be before they were bought by Albertson's. If you want top quality meat, they do have a two tiered set up with regular meat cuts and a select meat department where we have gotten some exceptional tenderloins and steak tips, but you can pay as much for a "premium" steak as it might cost to get it as an entree at a restaurant, already cooked. They also have a nice selection of imported cheeses and some very nice fresh mozzarella (check at the deli, not the cheese kiosk).. Definitely comparison shop... canned and frozen goods are much higher, and Lactaid Milk is as much as $2 higher per gallon. Coffee and pasta, paper goods (like tp and paper towels), and most basic staples are no bargain either unless they are on sale. My biggest complaint is that you need to have their store discount card (which tracks your every purchase in that big grocery store check-out register in the sky) or you can not get sale prices on anything. So if you run in on the fly, make sure that card is in your wallet or you are going to pay a premium on most things you might want to purchase. Basically, it's a trade-off..... higher prices over all, but you can find some things here that you might not find across the way at Market Basket. And if you are into organic, all-natural, they do have the best selection. But the store has really suffered since the chain was purchased by Albertson's. There is a definite change in the store culture and the prices make it not the place to do ALL of your shopping. We pop in for the special things we might not be able to get elsewhere, but watch out for sales that are only valid with the discount card. read more

I went to Shaw's in Newburyport twice yesterday. The first visit I went to the deli and experienced the woman behind the deli counter having a disagreement with another deli employee about stocking the meat. the second time I asked someone in the meat department to weigh something for me as the turkey breast did not have a price on it and he walked away shaking his head and acted as if it was an imposition. I apologized to him for taking up his time. The lines at the check-out are consistently slow as there are only a few checkout lanes open at a time no matter how long the lines are. All in all I would like to like shopping here as not everyone employee is unpleasant however those encounters really turned me off to have me go out of my way to spend more money when Market Basket is right next door. read more

Although I have been a customer for well over 25 years, I was completely disgusted tonight with the attitude of the manager - I think he is new - of the Shaw's in Newburyport. I had a total hip replacement 4 weeks ago, and I'm pretty young for that (58)....usually quite spry and can run around that store in no time. Today, though, I had walked more than I should, was alone, and with one crutch, and I needed two items. I swallowed my pride and called them. I asked the customer service representative if someone could come out to the front of the store, or if I could go into the front and have an employee help me with 2 items. I didn't want to use a power chair - first, because I'm not a very good driver, and next, because in the past I have seen employees get an item for someone at checkout. She transferred me to the 'manager', who told me that he was 'sorry', but that they were VERY busy, and that not one employee could help me. I went in anyway - taking painful baby steps with my crutch. Not one employee asked if I needed help - the 'manager' had a crisp, white shirt on and was 'bagging' - literally, maybe less than 10 customers in the store. I was fuming, but what could I say except that I certainly know why people FLOCK to Market Basket. The few times I went in there the employees came up to talk, and all were happy with positive attitudes. Shaw's looks like a party after the election when the candidate has made the concession speech. The manager saw me, then proceded to continue to bag. The store was not busy. I barely saw any customers in the aisles. Yes, I like their produce. NO, I do not like their customer service. I am being very generous giving them 2 stars today. SHAME on Shaw's for not making an exception for a loyal (not anymore) customer of 25 years!!!!! SHOCKING. read more

This is by far my favorite supermarket in the world! While Market Basket does have consistantly better prices, if you look around Shaws, it ends up being much much cheaper! This particular Shaws is very clean and the produce deparment is diverse and very high in quality. Not once have I seen mold or soggy furits or veggies in this store. The Wild Harvest section is amazing! I try to eat healthy and I prefer to eat more natural foods. Unfortunately, they come with a hefty price tag so I have to limit myself. But to have this option inside a local supermarket is a huge plus. The Shop Around the World department is also quite nice. It features hard to find foods from all over the world.From Asian noodle bowls to British candies and condiments to hard to find salsas....this part of the store has it all. The meat section always has choice cuts of meat that are quite often comparable to those from the Butcher Boy (just probably not as fresh but much cheaper). The bakery is awesome and has fresh breads baked all day long. They even have samples of baked goods in there constantly....last time they have brownies for sampling. For a local supermarket this place has it all and then some. read more

I go here for fish, meats and various specialty items when I can't get them from Tendercrop or the farmer's market. Their brand name non-sale items are almost always going to cost considerably more than Market Basket. The prices may change since they've switched parent companies again - but as I'm writing this, I see absolutely no reason to spend more on an item that's exactly the same at Market Basket. read more

Was in this store today and when I checked out I didn't remember the Cashier giving me my receipt so I asked her and she responded it popped out of her machine so she must of so I figured maybe she just put it in my bag when she was bagging my groceries so i left giving her the benefit and left and whet home. Got home and I had no receipt I checked all my bags and my purse and had no receipt I think this is terrible for a cashier to lead you to belive she gave it to you when she didn't I really belive she needs to be spoken to and follow through on things and not pass it off like it is the customer fault She never gave me my receipt what she did with it I don't know but I do know I don't have have it and that is just wrong that is just poor customer service. i go to this store when ever I'm in the area and I like shopping there but will think twice before I stop there again She was just rude to assume she gave me something she didn't and couldn't be bother following through with it that is just poor customer service. read more
