Rude mamager "Parker" been there 5 years. My family has gotten food poisoning from this particular Market Basket due to temperature issues with dairy products specifically. I thought I was okay to get freezer food, but the freezer food that I picked up was completely defrosted and squishy. The temperature in the freezer food section where I was was 55° and 45°. The food was sweating and wet. So I went to the manager and told him and he was extremely condescending and dismissive. He told me that if there was any issues an alarm would go off , so I showed him the pictures and he laughed and then told me that I was mistaken. Then when I said that he was making me anxious and I was just trying to show him the products, he said thank you and smiled at me with a Blank Stare and then walked away. It was really weird and gross. We won't be going back to that particular location because Market Basket is great but not in newburyport. read more

This review is based on what I'm used to and that is way better than this. Where I come from there are Krogers and after that, this takes some serious getting used to. First is the aesthetics. Could there be a more uninviting place than this? And what's up with the entrance where you have to walk around all the registers in the opposite direction of the produce? Since produce is normally where I like to visit 1st, I'd rather not have to do that. I get plenty of exercise outside the grocery store. People working the floor have no idea what they're doing. "We're out of that right now." Ask a different person, they go into the back and come out with exactly what you're looking for. It's just pure laziness. This one and Shaw's are the only game in town. Haven't tried Stop & Shop in Amesbury yet but it's on the list. read more

Wow, what a difference. Just left that horrible Stop & Shop in Amesbury which was deplorable--hardly any vegetables but hardware and plates? And rude workers. Here there were so many workers all working hard. And plenty of produce! S&S didn't even have any celery and it was piled up here. And the prices were great. Lots of checkers so no long waits. I've been going to market basket for over 30 years. Most of the time the cashiers and baggers are nice and respectful of the way they handle your goods. Lately - not so much. I have had to re-bag my stuff several times because they're too busy talking to each other or the baggers next to them. I have no idea what they're saying because they don't speak english. MB needs to re-train their staff to focus on the customer and to speak to me, not point to an item and expect me to know their question is! I liked it better when the high school kids were working there. read more

I called to see if I could cash a governmwnt check since my bank i not local. The person in front desk said yes. I have a check cashing card for MB. when I came in to cash it (a whopping $59...) I was told I wasn't authorized for a government check???? apparently our need yo check off a box when you get a NB check card... they did not tell me this snd now my bank is closed until Monday... Somebody has to train these people to share complete and correct information!!! unbelievable... read more

The grocery store is fine, if a little dingy sometimes. Cheaper food than other places, but the vegetables sometimes aren't as fresh. The employees are totally disregarding social distancing, because the store itself is allowed to get totally overcrowded - in violation of the COVID-19 laws, even when relaxed slightly recently - https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/massachusetts-rescinds-coronavirus-grocery-store-restrictions-what-you-need-to-know/2158724/ All checkout lanes are open and customers can't avoid being further away than 2-3 feet from about half a dozen employees at all times during checkout. And when asked to back off and give proper social distancing space, the employees are downright hostile. At the very least, everyone was wearing a mask, which made it feel risky but not actively dangerous - but still, it's not great. Shaws and Tendercrop down the road both seem to be much more cognizant of the importance of social distancing, perhaps because they have higher prices so can afford not to have the stores totally packed and can actually follow, you know, the law. read more

Overall, 4 stars but with two major complaints. First, the produce seems to go bad much more quickly than at other area markets. Tip: buy smaller quantities and eat them quick. Second, the aisle width is narrow-narrow, something out of the 1970s. People are fatter now! We need more room. read more

It may not be the prettiest nor the most modern store around, but this is by far the best, most economical option for groceries in Newburyport. The sales are true bargains but the regular prices are the best around. They have a decent selection across the board. Love their bakery - special pastries are amazing. Two (minor) complaints: the flower department is truly lackluster and the flowers always look tired and well, past their prime. And some of the baggers need some serious help in how to properly bag groceries. I stand by the bagger and gently direct how my groceries are bagged. Aside from that, the store is always well-stocked, even late in the day before a holiday and a storm, and if you need something special or in large quantity, the produce and meat managers are very, very accomodating. read more

I have been going here since the store opened. Main reason? Pricing. Shaws can be anywhere from 50 cents to even a dollar more on most items Second...STAFF. I love the people in MB Nbpt. If something is not stocked and I really can't wait, I ask.They ALWAYS go check in the back room for me and 9 times out of 10 it's there. There is NEVER anyone in the aisles at Shaws. Maybe because I go during the day, the cashiers are usually not kids and are wonderful. But I have also been there in the evenings and have never found any problems with the younger people working there. They have always been extremely polite, kind and speedy. This is also unlike the rude, disinterested kids at Shaws. The MB house brands are just as good, and sometimes better, than the name brands. Sushi counter is AWESOME! Produce can be hit or miss, but I usually don't need the absolutely-perfect-just-off-the-vine stuff for cooking. The guys who clear the carts from the lot always stop if they see me struggling to get stuff in my car and wait to take the cart for me. A guy below complained about the floors on the weekend. I don't think he has any idea of the hundreds and hundreds of people who shop here on the weekends. read more

Get their Olives and cheeses (like feta of course!) by the pound. They are great, and go quickly in my house! The staff are always friendly and during holiday rushes, I rarely have to wait in lines of more than two. They seem to always have enough registers open. I wish the aisles weren't as narrow, but that doesn't deter me from coming back. read more

When I enter the store the floors look good, typically on the weekend it looks horrible. Whoever does the overnights Saturdays and Sundays needs to step it up with cleaning the floor. It looks awful, other than that the deals there are manageable. I usually come here to shop If I need something quickly. Service is usually fast and efficient. read more

This place is the best for prices and good quality. I have shopped here since Market Basket opened in Newburyport, also in Seabrook. I prefer Newburyport, it us more convenient for me. It is very clean, well kept, well stocked, and the staff is courteous. The prices are fair and the foods are fresh and up to date. Great service. read more

A few years ago I would have given Market Basket five stars, but more and more my wife and I have noticed young cashiers being rude, not just to us. The job isn't the most rewarding or highest paid, but the rudeness seems extreme. Meanwhile the older cashiers and baggers are just as diligent and charming as ever. And the store's great. read more

This is by far the nicest, cleanest, best stocked Market Basket I've been to. Lots of sushi, lamb, fresh produce etc. It's like this store is part of a different supermarket chain than the one in Plaistow. read more

Don't trust the deli fish dept to sell you todays fresh fish I usually have them get the fish I am purchasing from their cold freezer There is no guarantee the fish you see in the glass is todays Today I trusted them, and ended returning the haddock/ scrod . Gahh!! I love grocery stores up here in MA! I love visiting my parents and seeing real grocery stores (note: i am from NYC where we don't get Market Baskets and just good old grocery stores with EVERYTHING). I can find no other place to contact Market Basket so perhaps they will read these commnts: Mrs. Budd's chicken pot pies are dreadful. 90% yellow chicken fat gravy and very few vegetables or meat. Harvey's ice cream bars are also terrible. Waxy 'chocolate' coating and what they call vanilla crunch seems to be soggy rice crispies. Newman's organic dog food is a good product and I wish they'd stock it. read more

After hearing news reports that Shaw's Supermarkets are having difficulties surviving, my husband and I finally thought we had to go back to Market Basket in Newburyport, MA to begin shopping there. We will NEVER go back. It is the filthiest supermarket I've ever been to. Utterly filthy shelves and disgustingly dirty floors. The savings are minimal. The last straw was seeing the oversized displays of highly processed food boxes on top of the aisles. We felt like we needed to wash our hands after shopping there. GROSS! read more

It has become a social playground for the employees. Today a man was socializing with the service desk staff while his child "banged" on every piece of equipment the boys could find. Neither the father or staff took issue with him disrupting customers. Parenting tip to the father don't have any more children if you can't afford a play area. Best prices anywhere. Usually well stocked. My only gripe is the health and beauty aide aisle, where they insist on putting displays in the middle of an already narrow aisle. Still worth the trip, though. read more
