    Don't order it's nasty

Total fail! Ordered ubereats the dry noodles, the small wonton in soup and the small deep fried wontons. Only the deep fried wonton is kinda edible. However it came in this styrofoam box which is like all melted, top and bottom (see pictures) by the time it arrives. So image all the carcinogens you eat with the wonton. Deep fried wonton the size is small but it's not ridiculous. The filling is bouncy. It's almost $6 for ubereats price. For the small wonton in soup, I knew it would be small but didn't imagine it to be this small, the filling is like the size of one third of your pinky nail. Essentially it's just wonton wrapper soaked in a bowl of salty water. Almost $4 on ubereats. The dry noodles mixed with peanut sauce. The noodles was a disaster, it's soft it's soggy it's clumped together. I had no idea what I just ate. Also, the list price is almost two times more expensive than the dine in price. With service fees and all that, just such a fail. Do not order here. You have been warned.

This place has surprisingly a lot of cheap eats. Peanut sauce noodles is only 2.79! They also have 16 deep fried wontons for 3.49$ - crazy! The deep fried buns were a good deal too. We tried their pork and chives steamed dumplings (which they left out from our order, we had to reorder it) and it was not good. The dumpling skin was thick and the pork filling was dry. We also got the chicken pot and it was filled with bones and the sauce was slightly sour yet salty but it looked as if it's suppose to be spicy- but it isn't. We also go the stir fry clams and they did not taste stir fried. They tasted boiled and then they added a red sauce on top which looked very red and spicy but was actually sour and weird tasting as well. My favourite dish was the deep fried salt and pepper tofu- crispy, lightly flavored

Summary: slotted in the busy Midland/Silverstar plaza, Sha Xian caters to the meat loving, sauce relishing, and bun munching crowd but it has barely any vegetarian options and the dishes were either bland or super heavy to me... honestly, it's a bit overrated right now. What I Tried 201 Sha Xian Style Stir Fried Pork and Lychee 13 Steamed Mushroom Bun What I Liked: Mushroom Bun What I'll Get Next Time: another bun, business combo 233 or 235, and bring a meat eating friend Also, the wonton is supposed to be good! I was excited to try this because Dumpling King reigns supreme in this plaza and I've been consistently trying to convince myself to try something else there: enter Sha Xian. The outside of the restaurant is in Chinese characters and we weren't positive we were in the right place until we walked in (I should've taken a picture!). Red colour theme, decor is bright yet simple, and it looks to be a simple and clean environment. They get bonus points here for playing Backstreet Boys as their background music. I got the 201 fried pork and Lychee dish, thinking it'd be a funky combination. It was, but it didn't quite work for me. Not tender. Very punchy and saucy but I didn't love the taste. Lychee was hardened from being fried. Didn't mesh as well as I imagined. I was really looking forward to trying their buns but they put meat in ALL their appetizers. As a vegetarian option, we had the choice of peanut sauce noodles for nearly $3, so that was a hard pass. The mushroom buns were actually quite tasty, although the portion size was disappointing. My friend's seafood noodles: I think I could've made the same thing. Noodles didn't seem fresh, and portion size was disappointing. For that price point, might as well go to a Make Your Own Noodle Bowl place. Underwhelming experience that might have to do with picking the wrong order. If I'm back, I'll have to try something else.

Noodles with peanut sauce, omelette and wonton soup

I first discovered this place by accident when my friend and I were looking for somewhere to eat at night, after most of the other places were already closed. We were shocked to discover how cheap a lot of the food was (~$2)!! I strongly recommend the noodles with peanut butter sauce and the omelette. The restaurant itself is also very nice and clean inside, which I'm thankful for since most of the cheap chinese spots aren't this clean lol

Shaxian is a relatively new restaurant that serves extremely affordable Fujian dishes. Ordered a total of 4 items: the extremely popular noodles in peanut sauce, pork and chive wontons, chicken dumplings and pork/leek/mushroom baos. The restaurant was busy but food was served extremely quickly. +5 for the noodles in peanut sauce because it was cheap and delicious. Everything else was pretty standard. Nothing to really write home about but I definitely appreciate spending under $20 for all that food. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaxian_delicacies I wonder if this is a franchise business or just the official logo for shaxian cuisine? 3.5 for not breaking the bank.

Small restaurant that I wouldn't have come in if it wasn't for my friends' choice. Surprisingly this little restaurant is a hidden gem! Apparently it was well known back in China, Beijing and other places. I had their individual for one person soup (tea tree mushroom with duck and mandarin peel- good for coughs *i had some for past two days*). Sharing we had ShaXian wonton, ShaXian vermicelli with pork, steamed cabbage dumplings, wok fried spare ribs in wine sauce. Their shaxian wontons $3.49 for 16 of them yet they're small like a nickle size (smaller than a quarter) but the meat is sooooo flavorful and tender. Wonton wrap was very silky smooth and the clear soup base was just the right taste. Not too savory and it was really tasty. (I was kind of shocked to be honest). The ShaXian vermicelli with pork was sooooo good, light and fluffy but not greasy! Simple dish, stir fired with some egg, some onions and pork slices. For $7.99 I think it is definitely worth it because I like stir fried vermicelli but really afraid to be greasy, heavy and filling with carbs. Steamed cabbage dumplings- 4/5* for the taste of the meat, but the dumplings doesn't have juice coming out, yet it isn't dry. But I still prefer the wonton soup more. $4.99 for 8 pieces I had tea tree mushroom with duck and mandarin orange peel soup. It was traditional style but still too tasty for natural homemade (for sure there's MSG). But so far 2 hrs after dinner I'm not thirsty or having dry mouth. I love this place and will definitely come back for more soon.

Dropped by for lunch today, it's not been open for long. The name of the restaurant is a place in Fujian. So my fellow Fujinese diners informed me. They serve steamed/fried dumplings, soup dumplings, cold appetizers, soup noodles, noodles and they have individual steamed soups. Lots of people ordered the soups but we didn't try any. They were around $7 for each individual clay pot. We ordered the Sha Xian wontons, steamed pork and celery dumplings, Fujian stuffed fish balls, marinated tofu and a free range chicken noodle soup. The foods were all nice, nothing really great but ok. The soup they used for the wontons, noodles and Fujian fish balls was pretty plain, and seemed like just water and chicken powder. With the soup noodles you can choose from around 4/5 different noodle types. They also have a lot of different rice combos too. Lots of other diners got the peanut sauce noodles, they smelled really appetizing, even though I'm not a big peanut fan. I would try them, if I came back here. The 2 servers were nice and polite too.

    Menu

Went to this restaurant based on reviews from Yelp. Ordered Thick noodle in peanut sauce, chive and pork deep fried dumpling, Shaxian wonton and Pork ribs in wine sauce. Thick noodle in peanut sauce $2.49. Peanut sauce didn't have much peanut flavour. Noodles is Lai Fun. Chive and pork deep fried dumpling $5.49 8 pieces. Not the regular dumplings that you may be use to. There is more meat than chive, reminds me of meatball. I can taste some spice seasoning, kind of like five spice. Shaxian wonton $3.49 16 pieces. Mini wonton with soup. Not much pork flavour. Reminds me of pork balls wrapped in wonton wrapper. Filling is light and bouncy just like pork balls. These wontons are one biters. Pork ribs in wine sauce $9.99. This was the worst dish out of the four. The ribs are pre fried and when a customer orders they refry and add the sauce. The meat was dry and hard. 80% of the pork ribs was bone, cartilage and batter. Really no meat, should have called it cartilage in wine sauce. I know the sauce is suppose to be vinegar base, but it was extremely strong. You can see chilli flakes and minced raw garlic but I could not taste it... that's how strong th vinegar was. Maybe Shaxian food is not my taste. The flavour is one note, I see other components in the dish but I don't taste it. The quality of the pork ribs was really bad. Nothing I ate there made me want to go back.

Good portions. Very affordable. I actually went to this franchise quite a bit back in Beijing. Glad to see it here. Food is good. Love this place. Love the soup, wontons, fried pork ribs, dumplings, just yum yum yum. Come try it! It's fairly new and even though the pricing of the food is quite cheap you still get good service, clean environment, lemon water vs just tap water, clean washroom. I'm impressed.

I like this restaurant. The price is reasonable and noodles taste good. But I don't like wontons here. The soup here pretty good. Recommend to try.

And glad we did because all the dishes were huge! We ordered to share: -Ginger Scallion Lobster -Shrimps in lobster sauce on rice -Cantonese Chow Mein -Fried squid -Spring rolls Everything tasted great and fresh but I wish the ginger scallion lobster tasted better. The only thing I did not like was when my mom barely finish they brought out the bill to rush us out. It wasn't that busy since it was after the lunch rush hour. The thing is when the bill came they overcharged us by a buck and we just decided to leave it be along with tipping them greatly. There was absolutely no interaction or even a thanks for stopping by and come back for more. This was my fave spot to eat whenever I'm craving for Chinese food, guess I will have to find something else. It's also cash only since they have an atm by the washroom entrance.

It was so packed but my brother was able to save a table while I did the ordering. This was a very casual and self service type of restaurant in which you can order at the front desk or at their kiosk. They had a limited time "promotion" going on in which you can order a maximum of 2 orders of their xiaolongbao or steamed mini soup dumplings for $2.99 with a minimum spend of $10. But honestly, I've seen this promotion since last year so I'm thinking it's actually a permanent offer. We ordered two orders of their pan fried pork buns, 1 order of their pan fried chicken dumplings, and 2 order of their promotional steamed mini soup dumplings. I thought everything tasted pretty good. The pan fried buns and dumplings were very crispy and quite juicy. My only nitpick is that I wished they put some kind of veggies or chives in their filling. It was just meat and felt too 1 dimensional for me. The steamed mini soup dumplings was actually really good though which is such a surprise at this price point. The outer layer was very thin and the filling was packed with soup. It was very delicious and hearty. Are these the best Chinese dumplings and bun's I've ever had ? No, but they were great especially for the price point. I would definitely come back again next time I am craving Chinese dumplings and buns. Also they take Amex which is always a plus in my book.

The posters outside caught my eye, and I decided to come back with a group of three friends to try it out. We came a bit late around 8 PM, and most of the fish were already sold out except the original. We ended up ordering the Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($40), a whole fish served bubbling hot with three toppings (potatoes, spam, and lotus root). You can choose between catfish and turbot, we chose the turbot fish. It looked extremely spicy, but the spice level was actually perfect. It was a bit on the oily side, but pairing it with rice balanced it out nicely. The fish was very tender and buttery, everything tasted amazing! We also ordered the Stir-Fried Egg with Tomato. The eggs were soft, the tomato sauce was rich. Not to mention the portion size was huge, we even had leftovers after eating until we were full. The restaurant itself was spacious, clean, and had plenty of seating. I think they were doing some sort of promotion so they gave us a $25 off coupon, though it expired pretty quickly so we didn't get to use it. I'd definitely come back for that grilled fish.

A few of their dishes come out on a sizzling plate with flames underneath. They are still in soft-opening mode with several specials. You can see the menus via a QR code. The Hunan cuisine is listed as "Hunan Noodles" and the Szechuan cuisine is listed as "Chopfire Menu". The Szechuan dishes are listed with 1 to 3 chilies representing the spiciness. If you can't handle spicy, then avoid eating the chili pieces and you might "survive". The restaurant decided to minimize their food offerings so that they can focus on refining their dishes in terms of quality and taste, including from customer feedback. We ordered the following: 1. Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($39.95). 2. Home Stir Fried Beef ($21.95). 3. Bullfrog with Baby Ginger ($19.95). 4. Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Pork ($15.95). 5. Drunk Oolong (charcoal roasted oolong tea base) x 2 ($5.95 x 2). 6. Lemon Taro Balls ($7.95). We also saw the following: 7. Stir-Fried Sliced Pork with Green Pepper Noodle Soup ($9.99). First 10 customers each day, only pays $1.00. 8. Ink Painting Cocktail ($5.95). The Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish came out on a huge sizzling platter. The BBQ Fish, a Turbot Fish, was very fresh and flaky, easily coming off the bone. There is no head attached like at typical Chinese restaurants but it would not have fit in the platter. The platter had a delicious sauce (soupy consistency and not sweet), luncheon meat slices, lotus root slices, and two other vegetables, along with chili pieces. The entire dish tasted great together with the various flavours. The menu listed it as 2-chili spicy but I could handle it by avoiding the chili pieces. The Home Stir Fried Beef is tender. It is listed as 3-chili but I could handle it by avoiding the chili pieces. The Bullfrog with Baby Ginger has the bullfrog cut up in little pieces; no you don't see a whole frog! The meat was actually good but most pieces have bones in it, so it takes time to eat it carefully. There was ginger slices in it but it, but we thought the slices were quite large! The Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Pork was very delicious! It came in a sizzling plate. The Cauliflower was flavourful and was not crunchy and not too soft. I've never had preserved pork slices before; it was quite good, not as salty as Chinese preserved vegetables. The Drunk Oolong has comes in a small bowl a with gin and ice. On the side, they include pieces of the charcoal roasted oolong tea leaves so you can smell it; quite a good smell indeed. You can also order it without the gin, which is what I ordered for mine (since I don't drink alcohol). It was such a nice drink! The Lemon Taro Balls dessert was pretty. In the centre was a slice of lemon. The customer service was good. There is plenty of indoor table and counter seating, including a small private room at the back. There is also an outdoor patio during warmer weather. There is pop music playing in the background. There is no free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There are two gender-neutral washrooms downstairs, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-026

From the moment we walked in, the space already set the tone.. dark, dramatic, elegant, and beautifully designed without feeling overly stiff. It has that upscale energy that makes dinner feel like an occasion before you've even ordered anything. Food-wise, there was a lot to love. The signature apple wood roasted Peking duck was definitely a highlight, especially with the tableside carving, which made the whole experience feel even more polished and memorable. The skin had that beautiful lacquered finish, and the duck was rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. We also ordered a few larger dishes for the table, and I really appreciated how everything still felt refined without losing that comforting, indulgent side of Chinese dining. Some dishes leaned rich and luxurious, others were lighter and more aromatic, so the meal never felt repetitive. Service was another standout. Our server, Sophia, was bubbly and friendly, giving suggestions and helping with the ordering process for the other person who wasn't as sure what they wanted. We eventually went with two appetizers and two entrees, which was more than enough food, and honestly, we could have only ordered one appetizer. The better of the two appetizers was the CAD 8.95 Hand Shredded Pepper Chicken/手撕椒麻雞/Shou Si Ji. The dish consists of cold chicken in a flavorful sauce, topped with some greens. The chicken was tender, with a mild, pleasant spice and a bit of numbingness from the Sichuan peppercorns, along with some fragrance, presumably from sesame oil. It reminded me a bit of salivating chicken you find in some Szechuan spots, but it was more aromatic and a bit less spicy. The other appetizer was the Steamed Edamame/岩鹽毛豆 with Himalayan pink salt for CAD 5.95. The other person chose between this and the vegetable dumplings, as he avoids pork, and it was, of course, lighter than the other appetizer. The decent portion of edamame was topped with some pickled carrots as a garnish. My main dish was the Braised Beef Noodles/紅燒牛肉面/Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian. The dish included several options, including size, noodle style, and spice level. I chose the large for CAD $20.95, medium spice, and for the noodle style, I chose flat/宽面, as it was closest to the prism style I like at Lanzhou spots in the States. Along with these, I also added a tea egg for an extra CAD 2.95. Outside the add-on, the dish also had a couple of large slices of radish. Compared to some spots in NYC, I slightly preferred the QQ/bouncy texture of the noodles at a spot near me. However, the broth was better here with a balanced amount of mala, though I would likely order spicy next time, as I tend to add chili oil to the relatively lighter Lanzhou broths. The beef was also much better, being tender with a mild chew regardless of whether it was tendon or other cuts. The tea egg was flavorful and worth the add-on, especially when the inside was dipped further into the broth. I can see why others order this. The other person went with the Signature Stir-fried Noodles/招牌炒面/Chao Tatiaozi. There was an option of protein, and he went with Chicken for $17.95 and added the same egg. I tried a bit, and there was a pleasant pepperiness with a bit of numbing flavor, but less than my dish. The noodles had a good bounciness and overall had a slightly better chewiness than mine. This was lighter overall, but also tasty. This spot has apparently come to the US already at the Mall of America, and I would love it if there were a location closer to me. Good place.

My wife is responsible for this restaurant adventure. I am not a big Chinese food fan because a…read moredinner of fried rice, Kung Pao chicken, and a fortune cookie ranks in my book on the low end of a fine dining experience. So I was delighted to find out what a talented chef can do with Chinese-influenced cuisine. But first, the location. This was our first time visiting Toronto so we were unfamiliar with the city's neighborhoods. When we stepped out of the Uber, I surveyed what appeared to be a grittier environment than the downtown area. I wasn't overly concerned. A cardboard sign taped to a window directed us down a hallway to the restaurant's entrance. It is a curious marketing approach and the sign could easily be missed by patrons, but it did add a little mystery to whatever awaited us behind the restaurant door. When we entered, we were immediately greeted by a pleasant hostess and an energetic vibe. The hostess confirmed our reservation (which had been guaranteed by a credit card) and offered to take our coats and umbrella. We were soon seated in pleasantly decorated, almost traditional-looking Chinese joint. Our server, Alex, cheerfully greeted us, asked us if this was our first time at Sunny's, and then gave a brief explanation of the culinary concept behind Sunny's approach to Chinese cuisine. In the interest of your time, I will quickly sum up our dining experience especially as you can easily find other online reviewers that make mention of their favorite dishes: Exceptionally friendly and efficient service (kudos to Alex!), quickly served, unique, and flavorful dishes, and wine and cocktail offerings (including non-alcoholic options) that pair well with the wide-ranging choice of entrees. A hghly recommended, surprisingly fun and delectable culinary experience.

But received an extra gift (shrimp) for being a solo diner. I was speechless. I have been a solo diner locally and different countries, but this is first time receiving gift for being solo. What a sweet gesture. Great ambiance. Lovely service. Every single food is finger licking!! Literally!! Food is hype-worthy. Didn't expect this from chinese restaurant. It seems they 'twist' the typical ingredients...making it unique, bold, creative. Already plan to be back (bringing 'forces') ....more tummy to try more dishes...
