As the weather gets chillier I am constantly craving hot noodle soups and glad I stumbled into this one. I have seen it around as it is a chain and they are known for their potato noodles but they also carry ramen, rice noodles, and different other types as well. We got the pork intestine potato noodle that came with shredded bean curd skin and kelp and the lamb slices potato noodle. The pork intestine one had a stronger broth perhaps due to the marination of the intestines. The lamb soup was more clear and refreshing. This is such a tiny little restaurant, the door is hidden amongst all the covered windows. BUT don't let this unassuming place pass you by, it's actually pretty good! Service was good and quick. Surprisingly good local noodle joint. They have two locations, one in p mall (or Pacific Mall). This one is their second location and the noodles are on point. We ordered the mixed organ lamb soup (羊杂汤) with nan bread, the potato noodles with little pork (small pieces of braised pork belly), and marinated pork trotters. Overall the soup was extremely flavourful and simply soul warming and the pig trotters were cooked well, really gelatinous. Definitely recommend to try this place out. The mixed lamb organs soup (sounds daunting but is quiet delicious) was cooked for a long period of time and seemed to have extracted the essence of lamb into the soup. The organs were not gamey at all and quiet enjoyable. What also pleasantly surprised was was the nan bread that came with the soup, because it was really crispy on the outside which added another layer of texture to the dish. The potato noodles with little meat was also really good. At first glance i was dismissive of the noodles because they seemed too soft which often meant it had no chew nor flavour, however it was not the case here. The noodles not only had really good chewiness but was able to absorb decent enough of the broth's flavor. Lastly the little pieces of pork belly seemed initially very fatty but once u ate one, it didn't feel too fatty at all and just simply made you want another bite. The pig trotters were good and gelatinous but nothing too spectacular here. Nothing wrong with the food this is based on my experience only. I wanted to get the multigrain fish noodle with lamb soup but instead I got cold chicken noodles. I called ahead to order takeout with the number on their online menu. Got home and found out their online menu is different than in-store, the styrofoam holding the sauce was also crushed, all the sauce leaked. I ask other waitress who looks like a manager for a change. She took both my mom and my dishes back to kitchen. After their loud discussion in the kitchen, the chef came out with full gear( hair net and apron) yelled at me saying there volume was right and challenged me to weigh them. I got so angry and don't want to eat so I decided to take the bill and go but they charged me for all three dishes which they took away so I asked for them to be packed to go. OMFG NEW GEM IN MARKHAM ALERT!!!! This was unbelievably good. This place is run by people that only speak mandarin, so communication is a little difficult if you don't got yo' asian friends with ya. It's great that they have pictures on their menu though, and it's even more great that the food that comes out looks exactly like the picture. This place is a little gem in Markham! I never knew this place existed because it's kinda tucked in beside Cha Me Cha and ZenQ. My favourites are the chicken cold noodles with sesame sauce and the three-coloured vermicelli. The cold noodles are very refreshing and the sauce is very well made. I like vermicelli in general, but I find the ones here because they have three different colours (brown, yellow, white). The noodles are quite chewy and filling, and because they're served in a stone pot, it keeps the heat in for a long time. The broth is very hearty and flavourful. I don't feel very thirsty after I eat here. I also like that they have seaweed and bean curd in the noodles; it's got a good mix of textures with the noodles. I usually order the one with shredded duck. My friends enjoy the one with beef brisket. The meat is tender and well marinated. We took a peek into what seemed like a small noodle joint but saw that it was quite spacious and decided to go in. The kids like noodles so this was a good choice. They have all types of noodles from knife cut noodles to ramen to yam noodles and thick rice noodles. Service: We came here at peak hours for dinner, so out wait time to be seated was around six minutes. They regularly serve hot tea and cold water, but to my surprise not hot water; they had to refill a teapot with water to do so. Cold water was served in serviceable yet unclean plastic cups. Otherwise, service was quick and decen. Atmosphere: The restaurant itself was of moderate size and its decor simple, consisting of potted plants and Chinese banners on the walls. Overall, nothing dinghy that retracts from the eating experience, but nothing exceptional either. Food: I ordered the braised pork noodle soup and shared "Chinese burgers" with our group of five. I appreciated the noodles as they were succulent and the broth was hearty. The burgers could do with some improvement; they were quite dry. Regardless, the portions were huge and quickly whetted our appetites. I really enjoy potato noodles ever since I tried them at PMall several years back. They are the ULTIMATE comfort food - in saying this; do not expect a lot of meat in your food because it's really a hit or miss. We ALWAYS get the same thing 1. Pork Intestine with Potato Noodle: My sister always gets this. 2. Multi-Fish Grain Noodle with Shredded Duck in Special Soup: My absolute fave. The noodles are chewy, the soup is savoury, and the veggies are crunchy. Finding meat in your bowl is kind of like digging for gold. 3. Lamb Ramen: I think this is what got my boyfriend to really fall in love with noodle soups. Pretty good portion of protein here but sometimes too fatty for his taste. I always take his extra veggies (bamboo shoots, black fungus). I'm usually soooo full (maybe from MSG?) I skip dinner. I also re-heat the soup the next day to boil veggies in. If I was only rating for food, I would give them 5 stars. Their pork-intestine multi-grain noodles are my go-to and I find myself craving it several times a year. However, the service and overall ordering experience of my last encounter left a sour taste in my mouth. I called in to order take-out in English and thought that it would be easiest to order by item number. I found the menu on their official website and ordered by telling them the item numbers, and I ordered a F5, C4 and C6. Since they also have a S5, I wanted to confirm that what I was ordering was the "multi-grain rice noodle with pork intestines in special soup". The first employee I spoke to on the phone then had to ask another lady to speak with me only to tell me: "i don't know what you're talking about". After a lot of struggles, I finally got my confirmation that I was getting my pork-intestine multigrain noodles. This didn't bother me TOO much. The real problem came when I received my food. BUYERS BEWARE: THE ONLINE MENU ITEM NUMBERS DO NOT MATCH THEIR IN-STORE MENU. I found this out the hard way when I received my food and the only thing that was right in my order was my pork-intestine multigrain noodles that I had confirmed with the full item name. I thought I was ordering the chinese hamburger and chicken cold noodle with sesame when I ordered a C4 and C6, but I actually received two random dishes because their in-store menu has C4 and C6 as two other noodle dishes. There is nothing worse than having an intense craving and to be disappointed upon opening the bags :( . But unfortunately it does not compare to its original location. I ordered the usual A1 Spicy Potato Noodle Soup, the texture of the noodles were good (same quality as the food court location) and chewy. However, the flavours were not as impressive. It was a lot less spicy in comparison and the broth seemed slightly watered down. In terms of portion it was smaller as well but there was fair amount of fish balls and vegetables. Service was horrible here. The servers looked so unhappy while working here, no smile or much of a greeting. On each table, there were menus and a piece of paper to write your order down. I think this is one of the better Chinese noodle places that seem to be gaining popularity. The signature "potato noodle" is a thick starchy chewy glass noodle similar to what you get in some Vietnamese restaurants. I personally love chewy noodles so it was enjoyable but I don't think it's for everyone. I had the shredded duck broth which had good flavour intensity, and the portion was decent. My only complaint is the noodles were cooked unevenly and some parts were not transparent yet and difficult to chew. One of my favourite noodle spots in Markham! They offer a variety of types of noodles, but you have to try their potato noodles. Their potato noodles are very unique, they're plump and chewy. The only negative thing I have to say is that it seems like they use the same soup base for a lot of their noodles, but their meat flavours the soup. Sometimes the noodles end up tasting similar to one another even if they're different flavours. The shredded duck potato noodles and pork intestine potato noodles are my favourite. Like many other restaurants, Bai (for short) offers a variety soup base to go with your noodles. However, the variety in specialty noodles is what makes Bai different. They've got hand cut noodles, potato noodles, they even have noodles made out of fish (at least that's what the menu says in chinese). That's what I got. Noodles made of fish. I'm not entirely sure, but Pacific Mall has a store on the 3rd floor that closely resembles this one. The name of that food court stall is Potato Noodle Soup of Bai. The reason I clumped the 2 together is for their special noodles called 'Potato Noodles'. Imagine your normal rice noodles, slightly thicker, and with a clear casing surrounding it all. Upon slurping these noodles, you will find that they are extremely chewy. What makes it yummy is that they absorb the soup's flavour quite well at the cost of extra muscular effort lols. I'm gonna be honest with you, those noodles aren't for me, and yet I can see how other people might like it. While my boyfriend and I both ordered beef brisket noodles, they definitely displayed some inconsistencies. The sliced noodles are easier to eat and my boyfriend preferred this. His noodle soup (Potato Noodles) was served in a hotter bowl where the broth was super warm and the meat was tender. I do think this place could use a bit of quality check since the meat from my bowl was not as tender and the soup was average at best. The soup that my boyfriend had gave more taste to the tongue, resembling that of Pork Bone Soup or even Tonkatsu flavour. Sometimes when we dine, we notice the little things. I like how they give you a pot of tea because who wants to keep asking for refills lol. The tables are pretty spacious, you don't need to sit knee-to-knee like the noodle places in Downtown Toronto. The texture was super chewy and the beef brisket was very tender. The soup base is fairly clean - it is not oily at all but it had quite a strong peppery taste. It reminded me of the pig stomach soups that you get at chiu chow joints. Not to say that it was not good but I prefer to have a more well rounded and savoury soup base. The Beef Brisket Potato Noodle in Soup was quite good. The potato noodles were very chewy and were semi-transparent. I really enjoyed the tenderness of the beef brisket; they weren't rough at all! The soup was very fragrant and I suspect again that they used a lot of MSG in it. The second bowl of noodles, the Seafood Rice Noodle in Soup, were similar in portion and served also in a black bowl reminiscent of Korean hot stone bowls. The soup broth in this was more clear and smelled of seafood. The rice noodles were average and bouncier when compared to the potato noodles. There were five shrimps in there and two half-fish balls. I guess five shrimps and one fish ball are considered "seafood". ... Needless to say, I will not be running back to this restaurant. If I could use one word to describe this restaurant, it would be "chewy". Located at the Langham Square plaza beside Cha Me Cha, the name of this gem doesn't instantly give away that it is a noodle soup restaurant. Came here on a Saturday night and there were plenty of seats available (the -2 C weather (in April) probably affected the crowd). Because we were literally the only customers there aside from 3-4 other tables, we started getting nervous that we made the wrong choice. Totally had low expectations and when the food came out, gotta say we were surprised at how good it actually was! What we got: - Beef brisket potato noodle soup - Pork ribs special soup with noodle Noodles were super "Q" and perfectly chewy. Never had chewier noodles in Toronto. Noodles were way better than Magic Noodle, Dagu, Deer Garden, you name it. Soup broth was not your typical MSG or salt-heavy base, it had a unique flavour to it. The special soup definitely stood out as well. Service was friendly and relatively quick for the potato noodle soup item, however it took another 4-5 mins for the special soup to come out. Not sure why the two items didn't come out together given it wasn't busy at all. Will definitely return to try: chicken cold noodle with sesame and the shaved noodle soup options. read more
