There is now a surcharge of 2.5% on credit card transaction payments and it is disclosed on a table sign; however, it would be better if this is included in the total price on the itemized receipt. The receipt will only have boarding charges and any related charges (for food). For anyone wondering, the charge for someone to board a cat is $3 per meal time, $6 a day. Also, they may or may not make you sign a receipt to close the transaction. The visit for this review, they did not make me sign a receipt. I was just given an itemized receipt. read more

Up until a week ago, I'd have nothing but pleasant things to say about Sheabel and the staff as a whole. I went in to unfortunately euthanize my cat who was diagnosed with heart failure 2 weeks prior and was not responding to medicine and declining steadily with worsening respiratory status. He was calm and seemed ok for the most part until he realized where he was and began to get stressed out and whenever he was stressed his breathing got worse. The tech came in and explained the process and breakdown of payment with us, meanwhile my cat was getting more and more restless, going from spot to spot in the room trying to make himself comfortable. We asked the tech to please hurry to get the doctor and to get him the meds to help him settle down. The tech left and a few minutes passed before she came back with the vet. There was no sense of urgency to help my cat, and the vet, (who was not our usual vet) still did not have the meds ready, was just there to reiterate what the tech had already walked us through and walked back out. In that time my cat who was trying to hide behind the furniture started to sound like he was choking. I picked him up and laid him on the table. He was agonal breathing, eyes were open and fixed and gums were turning white. He looked terrified and all I could do was hold on to him and beg for it to stop while my mom stepped out and told them the Dr needed to come help now. Still no one came for an agonizing moment of time. Once the vet did get there she just looked at him. I knew my cat was already gone. She finally gave him the sedative and he stopped the choking noise. She told us "he's going fast so you might want to go ahead and say your goodbyes," though it was too late for tender goodbyes. My cat did not get a peaceful home-going. He was stressed and terrified. He didn't drift away, he went crashing. I didn't get to hold him tenderly as he went to sleep, I got to frantically hold onto him as he gasped for his final breaths. I sincerely hope that image haunts them the way it will haunt me forever, and no other family has to endure what we did. read more

i had an appointment at 11 yesterday and was told my dog would be ready at 4. I received a text at 2:30 saying pickup would be after 4. We were there at 4 and were told Sophie had been bathed, but there were 3-4 dogs ahead of her to be groomed. She had been in a cage for 5 hours and had not been walked to pee. They continuously overbook, keep dogs in cages and are never accurate on when your dog can is ready. I will never go back again and absolutely do not recommend them. read more

I am rating this business a three because I think it is unfair to judge a place by two interactions. But these two interactions (in the seven years my dog was cared for there) were significant. My dog was a tough groom. The woman who groomed him there always had patience with him, I thought. Until I heard her call him a name on their walkee talkee when I came to pick him up. I decided I wouldn't take him back there to be groomed but... alas, it was a moot point. The day Boogie was groomed there he had his regular physical- everything appeared great. Boogie had long seen Dr. Jude there. Ironically, I had kept him at Sheabel because I had witnessed Dr. Jude's compassion when my friend lost her dog- I thought I would want her to be there at the end of Boogie's life too. A week after his grooming, I met my mom at Sheabel to see the vet after Boogie had been throwing up. I sat in worry with my mom as we waited to hear from the vet- Dr. Estes. I remember extreme relief when she told me after his ultrasound that he had pancreatitis. Which is common in Miniature Schnauzers. Alas, he did not get better. My mom, who frequently watched him, took Boogie back to see Dr. Estes when I was at work one day because he was still vomiting. It was was his fourth visit in a month. He wouldn't eat the food for pancreatitis- he barely ate at all. She ultrasounded him and told my mom Boogie had GI cancer. She said that it was be acceptable to put him down that day. My mom wasn't Boogie's owner though. I was. My mom called and told me the news. My immediate reaction was to have his records sent to the local dog oncologist. I called Sheabel and asked for that to happen but also asked for Dr. Estes to call me and tell me what she saw. She never called back. I made three more calls to the clinic asking for her to call me before I gave up. I went to another vet clinic and asked the vet just to have a real conversation with me about Boogie's diagnosis/prognosis. She was honest and kind- willing to have the hard conversation Dr. Estes refused to have. The first photo is of Boogie in between my legs after leaving work to see him after Dr. Estes told my mom his diagnosis. The second is a photo of the dog baby I knew before. All that to say, take your well-dog to Sheabel. If he is ok with grooming and doesn't need true compassion. I work with human physicians and have seen many communicate with families at the end of life. I don't know that Dr. Estes missed anything but her behavior after makes me think she might have. Regardless, her lack of communication with me was the biggest blunder in entire situation. Avoidance isn't ok at the end of life. read more

This is my first time owning a pet. It was the first time my wife owned a pet of her own. We searched the internet for a good vet. We would definitely recommend Sheabel. Our vet and staff where very friendly. They did the exam and looked at her precious medical history. They then came back with a list of suggested exams and vaccines recommended and answered any questions we had. She even left the room and let me and my wife discuss it which was nice. BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS. As a new resident of the area I found, what seemed to be a great place to get my cat groomed and a vet for them to go to right next door! They seemed really informative by calling and explaining their process with up to dates shots for their grooming process. I pulled my cats shot records faxed up from my previous clinic at my former area. I then received a text to confirm my apt. So I did. The next day I got another call asking about the records for all the cats and told me I needed a feckle test on Fiona for grooming. I asked how much I was looking at in total for everything. $65 for grooming (twice the price from what I'm used to) $30 for the test. The next day I received ANOTHER call confirming my apt. I told her I'd verified twice already. The day of the appointment, I showed up and the receptionist presented a bill totaling $484 for things "she could have done", I told her no just the grooming and feckle test. She said "oh no she needs her shots updated". Why didn't they tell me this when I asked them the other day or in any of the other calls? She took off the not needed stuff and it still totaled $236! I told her what the girl had said on the call the other day, she blamed having new staff on that. I said that it wasn't my fault they didn't train their staff properly. All this as I'm hold a 20# scared cat. I came there to get her cleaned because she needed it so I agreed once she took off the "office exam fee" They did explain everything that she needed in the future and why in detail but when I told her about the inflated prices she said it was because they "cared about the animals". I'm pretty sure most clinics I've been to, they have all cared and didn't charge their customers for that? BE PREPARED FOR INFLATED COSTS! read more

Revised to four stars as Sheabel price manager responsive to my spouse this morning. Would still caution that up charging seems to be the business model. But dogs well cared for. Brought my two dogs who receive regular health care to board for four nights. We knew the younger one needed her annual bordatella so we took her to her vet to have her appropriate vaccinations for usual boarding. In addition to the $400 for five days/four nights stay (charged by the day, not the night) we were charged $335 for "vet care" which included $25 per dog insurance against boarding related illness (by the end of check-in it seemed quite likely that this was an old-style "protection" fee) Our older dog who had had a teeth cleaning and physical four months prior was charged for a vet visit as it was not within three months. Both dogs were administered a $40 flu vaccine (not recommended by AVA but required by Sheabel) and I would be less suspicious of their motives if they did not also recommend a $25 diphenhydramine shot prior to the vaccine (did not get this as I have no idea about animal data, but it reduces efficacy in humans and flu already a pretty ineffective vaccine) $5 and $6 fee for removal of medical waste (which I can only imagine is dropping a syringe in sharps container). Overall this felt like a ton of up-billing and an opportunity to fleece us during a time of distress. I had a similar experience here over a decade ago when a prior dog was referred to an internist who was renting their space and the business required the dog to be seen and billed by their vet before the dog could be seen by the independent internist. But with family crisis was relieved to get space anywhere- so a second star for that. On the plus side my dogs seem none the worse for wear, although very thirsty and I was able to see my sister before she died and attend her funeral. read more

Sheabel doctors and techs did an amazing job working with my dog who couldn't walk because of late stage lyme disease. He is a big, heavy dog, but they worked with him by creating a sling so that he could start putting weight on his legs, doing massage, laser and passive range of motion therapy. So thankful for Dr. Mattingly for diagnosing and treating him and the most wonderful vet techs you could ask for. read more

I tried to schedule a last-minute appointment, on a whim - fully expecting to be seen the next day - and they saw us the same day! The staff were mostly friendly and attentive. I really like that they have an app where we can schedule appointments, have appointment reminders, ask questions, etc. It was a full exam, but we were seen by a veterinary student and had minimal interaction with a doctor (likely because we used the "free exam" postcard they sent). I wasn't upset about it, though, because 1) I can appreciate the need for students to learn through practical experience, and 2) I knew my dog was fine. I'll update when we go back. read more

My cat of 17 years was not doing well. It was very clear she was at the end of her life. She was on fluids, suffering from kidney failure, and had very low energy. One day, we knew it was time. She was trying to hide, so she could have a place to die. We could not wait any longer and got in the car so she could be put down. It was Saturday, and our usual vet's office was closed. We went to Sheabel, and we could not have asked for anything better. We were emotionally distraught, and they had us go into a room that was just perfect for her. The lights were down low and they had a blanket for her to feel comfortable. We all stood around petting her and telling her how much we loved her. Dr. Kimmerer did not question our judgment and used a soft voice, so our cat felt safe. They let us stay with her for as long as we wanted. When it was time to leave, they offered to give us a mold of her pawprint with her name. We had never even been to Sheabel and they could not have done a better job making her feel safe and comfortable on her last day. read more

We have been going to Sheabel for over a year now for our two dogs. Dr Kimmer has been our go-to doctor there and she is wonderful. She will get down on the floor with your pup to make their experience more comfortable. You can tell Dr. Kimmer really enjoys what she does, which creates a better experience for the pet and owner. Also, this location (from my experience) does not over-sell/over-diagnose the average pet owner. This is a problem at most vets and I have yet to experience that here. The office staff is friendly as well and they usually can take appointments in the same week. I recommend this vet along with Dr. Kimmer to pet owners everywhere. read more

We have a lab/ great Dane mix that needed all of her vaccinations and we needed to board her for 4 days. Sheabells was the only place that could do both. My wife called and set up the appointment and I dropped our dog off later in the week. On the phone call and during the dropoff, neither my wife or I remembered to ask what the total due was going to be. We got back from our trip and my wife called about picking our dog up. They told us it would be $367. We were expecting somewhere around $200 to $250 so we were shocked that it was that high. The person on the phone started breaking down all of the vaccinations and pricing. We ran into a small financial situation on our trip and couldn't afford the pay whole $367 so my wife asked if we could pay half and be billed the rest. She was transferred to someone in management. When the manager got on the phone, her immediate demeanor was that we were refusing to pay and we were accusing them of lying to us about the total. She told my wife (she was on speaker phone the whole time) that WE WERE given the total due at drop off, which we weren't. I don't know how she would know that since she wasn't there at drop off, but that's what she said. When I dropped our dog off, I was offered about 15 things I didn't want but I was not given anything. No paperwork, estimate, nothing. I had a million things on my mind and I forgot to ask. My wife finally got this person to understand we weren't disputing anything, we were just shocked at the amount and we were having some financial trouble and couldn't pay the whole bill. Thats when the manager told us this never happens. She told my wife if you can't afford to leave your dog you shouldn't go on vacation. My wife just told her to forget it and we would just borrow the money. My mother in law helped us out and we picked up our dog. At pick up, once again, I was given nothing. No paperwork, no receipt, no itemized list if what was done to my dog, nothing. So, in conclusion... Friendly staff; very, very rude management; a bit overpriced. My wife and I really don't appreciate being treated like second class citizens because we had a financial situation and couldn't pay $367 immediately. I feel like the pricing miscommunication was the fault of both my wife and I and their staff, but the manager completely refused to admit that. She just adamantly kept telling us we were given the total due at drop off. They ALWAYS do that, she said. Well, they didn't this time. The way she immediately was so offensive and rude about the whole situation leads me to believe they get a lot of complaints and questions about their pricing. Definitely will never go back. I was very appreciative that Sheabel Veterinary reached out about my previous review of their facilities, particularly as they related to grooming and their business practices. But, while I was appreciative of that fact I was deeply disappointed in their response. For one, I was surprised at their lack of knowledge about what vaccinations are considered core vaccinations and what are not; they stated that they require only core vaccinations and listed the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association as their references. But, neither the AVMA nor the AAHA* list Bordatella or Leptospirosis as core vaccinations. Yet, Sheabel requires them despite the low efficacy of those vaccinations and the extremely high risk of severe adverse reactions to the Lepto vaccination, particularly in small dogs. Sheabel can do what they wish of course, but I have a fundamental philosophical disagreement with them. I believe my dog should receive core vaccinations and then only other vaccinations where absolutely necessary. Sheabel was always my first choice for everything that I had to do with my dog since the very first day I adopted him. The receptionists and the vets, specifically Dr. Kimmerer and Dr. Arnold are vey helpful and friendly. This is all the good part. After some changes in the staff, I took the dog for day care. The associate behavior was completely UNPROFESSIONAL and out of place trying to force the leash on the dog without any care or friendliness. Of course the one-year old dog got aggressive seeing a complete stranger forcing a leash on him. Needless to say, the dog bit the associate. From then on, "will bite" notes were on his file while the unprofessional handling led to the incident. Also, I took the dog out of kennel by myself and saw the big "do not walk" sign on the cage door while they are SUPPOSED to walk the dogs on boarding/day care. The last time I put my dog on boarding, I asked for a nail trim as well. The next day when I took him home, there were two same SCARS on both sides of his face like a leash or strap was forced on his face and he had BLOOD on both sides. Being very upset, I took him back for a visit and explanation. Not only they DID NOT APOLOGIZE for what happened and the inconvenience, they did not want to take responsibility for the obvious happening. They even wanted to charge me for the treatment that they were suppose to provide due to their LACK OF PROPER CARE. I did not took the treatment and asked for all the medical history to switch to another facility. In short, I am very UPSET and UNSATISFIED with the care and costumer service that I received from Sheabel and my dog also has TWO SCARS on his face now due to whatever they have done to him. I brought my dog here for a wellness exam. The staff were safe, friendly and open to my questions and concerns. The Vet came out quickly and briefly explained what she recommends for treatment for my dog (has allergies). The prescription worked and I will assume, from my experience, that they know what they are doing. With that being said, as a pet owner, you need to advocate for not only your pet but for yourself. Ask for a written prescription before purchasing the prescription at the vet. You will save money! Many people feel bullied and taken advantage of by vet clinics. At the end of the day you are the customer. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Now back to the review, If you are looking for a place with fast service Sheabel is for you! Fast sometimes might translate to pushy, but as I mentioned above you need to ask questions and hold off on purchases until you do a brand and price comparison. read more

This place is a great spot to take your pets. I was going to a race out of town at the last minute and needed a place to take my two dogs. They brought them all up to date on their shots and accepted them. The staff was courteous and very passionate about their jobs. What I liked most was the indoor/outdoor kennels. I'm a realist when it comes to posting. I am disappointed at the fact that when I go to Sheabel's, you cannot just get a grooming. An $80 grooming has inevitably turned into a $300 visit because of shots required. Who knew dogs needed the flu vaccine and a boater 3 weeks later. Kitty Cat Grooming at it's finest! Marsha was recommended by a friend who's cat has a thick long coat and sheds like crazy. Marsha gave her a lion cut and solved a lot of the problem. I too have a cat that looks like a cotton ball, so I scheduled her a visit with Marsha. It took approx. a week to get in, but well worth the wait. My old grumpy cat came home looking like a little lion and she has perked right up. She plays more, sheds less and enjoys being rubbed. Marsha was gentle, cautious and took wonderful care of my old girl. read more

I am so grateful for the care and compassion of Sheabel's doctors and staff. Our dog recently dislocated her hip and Dr. Jude at Sheabel worked her in their schedule, tried to find a non-surgical and easier fix first, and when that didn't work, performed her surgery the next day. Belle is recovering now and without the prompt care she received, I doubt she would be recovering as well. There is quite a lot we need to do to work with her and help her recovery, too, and I will tell you that one other thing I appreciate a lot is Dr. Jude's and the staff's patience in making sure we know what to do :). I will never go anywhere else and cannot recommend them enough! read more

I adopted a Bearded Collie and needed a dependable grooming service for him. I saw the stars on yelp for Sheabel and gave them a try. I am SO glad I did! We met Stacy Duncan who is CHARMING and who my furry guy adores. He was fearful at first, but subsequent visits prove that she has him committed to their ongoing relationship. Is it expensive? Yes. But I took this guy on knowing he'd need a little more attention than a dog I'd had from puppy stage. AND, Sheabel is worth every penny. I've never worried about how my dog is going to look, behave or smell when he came home. He's always been great. Another great quality Sheabel has is that they can get me in fairly quickly.
