First time visit to this salon. I really needed someone to 'fix' my hair and get me on the right track. I didn't have to wait too long to get an appointment, for which I was grateful. Upon my arrival I met with Joanie. She wanted to see my hair dry and know what I liked and didn't like about the present cut. How awesome to have a stylist really evaluate my hair. It's condition, what was going on, what was needed and doable with the style I wanted. Shannon washed my hair and it was like massage therapy. Joanie gave me an awesome cut, explaining and educating as it was being done. She checked in with me as she was cutting to make sure all was going well. I went to a this hair salon in 2023 I got 2 quarters of my hair black and 2 quarters of my hair blonde. The woman that did my hair left the bleach in my hair for an hour to the point where my hair was stretchy and coming out I almost started crying in the chair but at the time I was too nervous to say anything and I really trusted the woman doing my hair and the final product was pretty but fast forward a couple months later I straightened my hair and my cousin noticed my hair was two completely different lengths the side that was bleached was at least 2-3 inches shorter than the other side i didn't notice right away because she blew my hair out inwards so it wasn't noticeable and it was also in the back where I couldnt see. I tried everything to fix my hair and to this day my hair is two different lengths I've waited for my hair to grow out so I can still keep it long and make it even by cutting it but now I have no choice but to cut it short again which is really upsetting. I should've left this review a long time ago but I truly believed I was going to be able to fix my hair. I don't know how true this is but apparently the woman that did my hair was on drugs and got fired but then they rehired her I'm not totally sure.I found that out because my family member worked there for a short time. Just be careful with who touches your hair. I left this review on Google as well I forgot to add additional information. I'm not doing this to try to hurt a business it's just genuinely super heartbreaking and frustrating to have dealt with the mistake she made for almost 3 years. I was 15-16 I'm now turning 18. When I was in my cosmetology class I was told by my teacher that it would take a very long time to fix my hair I didn't realize that by very long time she meant years it's just super devastating I love my hair and I love styling it but knowing that it literally is two different lengths in the back I don't style my hair as much and i usually have it up because it looks ridiculous. read more

Very disappointed in this establishment-got a recommendation-purchased a Groupon-was informed they no longer participated-asked for an explanation and was told they are too busy-so I guess Groupon patrons get sub-par service??? This hair salon literally gave me my dream hair color! My hair dresser, Shannon, did an excellent job. I had blond, highlight streaks before and she gave me a beautiful, ash blond, balayage. She also gave my hair a fresh cut with layers and bangs. I will definitely be coming back here to get any touch ups done, including a healthy trim. I've been so pleased to be a customer here. Someone I knew had her color done there and it was exactly what I wanted, so I went asked for Tracy, the owner, and she wasn't taking new customers but would supervise who I got, so I went. She did the exact opposite of what I asked for!!!! Then started again and made it darker but it wasn't at ALL what I asked for, so I went back again and showed a picture and STILL didn't get what I asked for!!! After 9 hours in the chair and a hairdresser with a BAD attitude I went somewhere else!! Tracy offered to fix it herself two weeks later, I don't have the time for as she said "a work in progress" I had a wedding to go to. She refused to refund any of the $300 it cost me there, and I paid another $200 to fix it!!! I haven't had my hair dyed in a few years and a friend recommended this place to me. Shannon Rae did a fabulous job on styling and dyeing my hair! She spent time helping me pick out a color and making sure I was comfortable! She even recommended some inexpensive hair products that can help me manage my hair and keep it healthy! Now that I call the salon instead of going back and forth via social networks, the salon hangs up on me when I call and I requested a call back from the manager which has yet to occur she can only write back via social media and not discuss the situation over the phone. Hanging up the phone is extremely immature and not calling a customer back is poor customer service and illustrates poor good will. read more

I noticed I had not shared my disappointing experience with Shear Extacy. I am a senior with short, fine hair and thought to try this salon. When asked what I was looking for, I explained, but ended up with a terrible haircut. Nonetheless, I gave her a big tip & I was going to live with it - unhappily - but my daughter convinced me to go back for a correction; that it needed tweaking to get it right. I went back and was charged $25!, and I even tipped her again - big mistake as it still wasn't right. My daughter wanted me to return and talk to the manager but there are plenty of other salons. read more

Saw a Groupon for a deep conditioning treatment, haircut and blowout all for $29. I had a bit of an attachment to my long locks and have always struggled to make any changes. I told Kirsten what I thought I wanted, but was nervous and she was incredibly helpful. I was able to donate - something I always wanted to do, but never had the nerve. Kirsten was incredibly nice and so talented. I'm in love with my shoulder length hair. On another note the rest of the staff is very attentive and kind. They also had an awesome promotion called something along the lines of balloon lotto. They had me pop a balloon and inside was a piece of paper that gave me 1/2 off a full facial. They did an impressively bad coloring job and had terrible attitudes. I had walked in to check them out and tell them what I wanted and they assured me they could do it (they did not specify a time frame bc if they had they would have booked me earlier so as to not interfere with closing time) so I booked an appointment. I spent upwards of four hours and $400 to walk out with seventeen different shades of really poorly and uneven bleached hair. I went back the next day only to have the stylist refuse to fix it. She said it was because I walked in with "attitude" when all I was was upset over my hair looking so terrible. I APOLOGIZED PROFUSELY for being upset and having a tone with her but she still wouldn't fix it (which should imply I completely corrected any bad attitude). At that point the manager? stepped in and preceded to yell at me and humiliate me in front of other customers even though at this point I was just trying to diffuse the sitch. She said she would fix my hair but would charge me again and wouldn't do it until the next week. I couldn't believe they would charge me again, let me walk around like that and have me beg them to do it. I asked for a refund and went to a much better salon in patchogue where they fixed it and gave me what I wanted in two sessions for far less and an amazing attitude. I would absolutely urge anyone looking for a salon to go elsewhere also. P.S. Do read the other review I am definitely not the only person that thinks that they're incredibly rude. read more

This salon was highly recommended as were the reviews. What a disappointment! I am new to the area and called to make an appointment. Explained that to the receptionist and was asking for pricing on the different services I would like. Got as far as setting the appointment date & time and was told that I needed to give her a credit card over the phone for a $30 fee to hold the appt. Although it would be applied to my services received, I was appalled and insulted. I guess that was my "welcome to the neighborhood". Responding to Tracy the owner's response. I spoke to many women that I know that live in different areas across the Island and asked if they ever had to pay a deposit for their first appt. All were appalled and never heard of such a thing. This is not your average hair salon. The owner and other hair dressers are extremely knowledgeable about color and product and latest styles and cuts. Each time I want a change or a new look I trust them to know what works for me. I have utilized their laser hair removal service and recently had a facial. The esthetician is extremely professional and likewise knowledge regarding the procedures and products being used. The atmosphere in the salon is comfortable and welcoming while feeling like you stepped Into a spa in a resort hotel. read more

I purchased a groupon for a root touch up, cut & blow out. I was paired with a junior stylist. She was very nice. She did my roots and proceeded to blow dry my hair, I asked for a straight iron was told it was an extra $15. I didn't argue just let her finish. When I went up to pay the stylist and receptionist where whispering about something. I went home and noticed there was still grey by the crown of my forehead. I called and went back to have it fixed. I was informed that anything longer then the root was not part of the groupon and was $15 extra. It was considered a comb through. I was not offered this service while I was there the first time. The owner looked at my hair and said it's in the Groupon fine print and I would have to pay to fix the spot on my head. She grabbed my hair and said if you want this covered then it extra and there is nothing I can do about it cause it's extra product. I told her thats crazy that it was only two small spots. She wouldn't budge and got nasty. All they care about is the money not the customer, shame on them! BUYER BEWARE!!! read more

I went here for my little girl. Her hair was messy, long, curly and very unruly. It had knots in it all throughout. So I went here with the hopes that it would be taken care of. First time I went, the hair stylist, I think her name was Judy or Jody (started with a J I'm sure), managed to get all the knots out. With the help of her sweet kind assistant who helped as well. I was pleased. However I was lectured by Judy on making sure to brush her hair, which I did every day to no avail. I didn't appreciate her telling me to do this, like I was a child or something, and I'm her mother. So I came in again a few months later with the same problem. Unruly hair, unmanageable. And when she saw me coming, I knew what she was thinking. "Oh no, not her again." I think it may have been a different girl that helped her this time, but all the other women were very sweet, very kind. They looked at my daughter's hair and after I said "I'm so sorry I know her hair can be a bit of a problem" they said "No problem! We will do the best we can with her hair!" Very sweet girls. Anyway, I was given to Judy again, only this time, apparently it was far worse, from what she said. She wasn't able to do it, just would take too much time, too many knots, too much this and too much that. She didn't want to work on it, even with the other girls' help. I could tell. So she told me I had to come in another time with a doctor's note bc she had a bruise on her scalp that she got from falling off our couch a few years ago. But I got the message: she didn't want to do it. She was pushing me back and she had a lot of excuses as to why she should. She should have let another girl do it then. They were much more sweet anyway! I didn't appreciate the attitude, plus every time I spoke around her, she would ignore me. Didn't like that either. When I go to a hair salon I like to feel comfortable with the stylist. Did not feel any comfort around her at all! The funny part is I never kept my appt to come back. Didn't have to! I went to my aunt's house for help, and to my surprise, she got all the knots out with one easy concoction! Conditioner, olive oil and water! That's all it took! She didn't have to cut my daughter's hair, like Judy, she didn't ignore me, like Judy, and bc she clearly didn't know what she was doing, like Judy, she looked it up (unlike Judy) and walla!! It was right there! You really should think about hiring ppl who don't have attitudes and who actually know what they're doing. Bc a good stylist would've known to do that already without looking it up. read more

What a disappointing salon. They totally ruined my hair. After telling the owner and the stylist doing my hair that I didn't want permanent color as I had never put color into my hair, they told me they were going to put a glaze. The "glaze" is still washing out after a year and a half. After complaining, the owner blamed it on the stylist and didn't offer to compensate or fix it. Went to this place on a Groupon recently, as I was intrigued by their online photos of highlights they have done... the salon is so beautiful and luxurious and the staff is so warm and welcoming and friendly. It was a very nice experience. However, my hair did not come out the way I asked for it to at all. My stylist Shannon was a complete sweetheart, but she gave me highlights on the whole top half of my head, when all I wanted was my underneath highlights redone and brightened up. I've never done a whole head of highlights because I can't afford the maintenance. While I think my hair looks good, it was not at all what I wanted and I will now be forced to spend more money to either maintain it, or fix it at some point down the line. I thought a good gesture would have been to either not charge me for the extra toner or give me half off my next service or something (especially since it's going to need to be corrected) but nothing was done to accommodate the screw up and that honestly spoke leaps and bounds to me. Again, while it looks great, it wasn't at all what I asked for when I sat down in the chair or even when I called a few days ahead of the appt. Tried to save money with a Groupon and maybe find a new salon to frequent; instead it's going to end up costing me a lot more money in the long run and I will not be returning to this salon, as nice as it was. read more
