Step into this oasis on Livernois! New to the city and getting all my grooming needs together, stumbled across Shears and Shave. They have a lady master barber, Ms. Sandford. I booked immediately and was not disappointed. Walking into the shop was a treat itself! Mr. Robert was there to greet me by name (I was the only booking at the time). He's so warm and friendly, he reminds me of an uncle. He gave me a tour of the shop which is beautifully decorated with murals on each wall that pay homage to Detroit's history and leaders. One side is a barber shop, the other a beauty salon with pedicure stations and a massage room. Later I step into Ms. Sanford's chair. She asks me if I have a pic of what I want, I don't, but I talk her through what I envision. Every step of the way she checks with me to ensure I'm getting what I want. I love that! Chop all my hair off today. Dawn the owner, cut my hair. And WOW do I feel amazing! First a got a shampoo which had a cooling effect that felt so good on my hair. Then I did my big chop. Dawn was very meticulous and careful with my cut ensuring that the length we achieved was the link that I wanted. She was so kind and really made me feel good about the whole process. First, I found this wonderful place just by typing nearby barbers on my navigation app. Second, I'm so happy that my app has good taste in barbers. Took my 80 year young Dad for haircut. The owner did a great job, now he looks like a million-aire and not a Billie goat!!! While I waited, I got a facial. Rebecca almost put me to sleep. I had my very first experience here today and I am beyond blown away! The owner and staff are friendly, attentive and just a pleasure to be around. My dad gets his hair cut here and he let me tag along to his appointment. He booked a 30 min massage for me with Sheryl while I waited. Sheryl is WONDERFUL with her hands, made pleasant conversation, and the atmosphere was peaceful and serene. I was given a quick tour of the place before I got started, it is absolutely beautiful. There is one side for the men, and another side for the women's salon services. Quaint, clean waiting rooms on both sides for your convenience. I'm in town for a while and I plan to visit again! I went there to just get a haircut ...that's what barber shops do right ? Well the lady that worked their too me seemed unfriendly , she told me to have a seat in the lobby and wait Well I waited and was basically ignored and I got the feeling maybe because of how I was dressed , I had on camo shorts, camo hat and wife beater ( it was 90 degrees that day) then a couple came in just checking the place out and she had a totally different attitude towards them and offered them a tour of the shop Once I saw that I got up and left , I'm there to spend money and you have a dismissive attitude towards me but someone who wasn't spending any money you give the grand tour ?!?! She had a button that said future millionaire on her shirt , but she lost the business of a future millionaire that day. I wouldn't recommend !!! read more

I've been to barbers before but Shears and Shaves is a superior experience. Walking in you'll experience courtesy and professionalism on a higher level. Dawn and the staff were very welcoming and the service was excellent. My beard trim included a facial along with a beard wash. This is more like a spa/barbershop experience than just a regular cut. This is an excellent salon to go to! I was driving up Livernois when I noticed the shop & took down the number. When I called to get an appt. I was pleasantly greeted by the receptionist. She was cheerful, helpful and accommodating. My stylist was professional and knowledgeable. She walked me through each step, explaining what product she was using and making sure I was comfortable. The shampoo was amazing and I was very pleased with my hair. In addition to that the atmosphere was relaxing, nicely decorated & extremely clean! They made sure your temperature was taken at the door, things were sanitized & everyone had on masks! You can get your nails done, eye brows/lashes & massage. The owner was a delight to talk to and I could tell she was all about customer satisfaction! It is a win win situation! read more

Like the place but why have times open for business and you're not trying to welcome business. Sign on the door says 8:00 for Friday, but yet I walk in at 7:19 and I'm turned away! Do better, be better! Change your hours of operation to the actual time you're open, not to the time you feel like being open. read more

This place shines with customer service! I recently took my dad here for a pedicure, manicure and a beard trimming after he had finished his radiation treatment and needed some personal care and attention. The team at the women's and men's salon were absolutely fantastic with not only his personal services, but treating him as though he had been a long time client. The hours are extremely flexible and you can book online! I love the fact that you can book online and see your reservation services build. For the men, they have a very large screen TV and sports are always on! Love the new addition to the neighborhood. read more

I had the pleasure of doing my "big chop" with Ms. Dawn, the owner of this establishment. She was incredibly nice and super professional. She has over 33 years of experience cutting hair!!! I showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair cut and she NAILED IT! She explained what she was doing while she worked, and even the products she was using. All of the staff was very professional and they were careful to take COVID precautions, so I felt very safe being serviced. I will definitely return! Very professional environment, clean pedicure bowls, friendly and accommodating staff. HOWEVER, they use some of the cheapest nail polish ever!!!! One week later and my nails and toenails are chipping like never before. I could slightly understand my nails chipping from washing my hands so much. HOWEVER, I have NEVER had my toenail polish chip after one week of being serviced. Matter of fact, my toenail polish usually last weeks with no problem!!! You pay $70 for service, you expect $70 quality. I do not recommend this business for nail services. I can not speak for the other services that they provide. read more

Very nice, mature and clean environment (clean space and clean language). Shears and Shaves seem to have made a concerted effort to offer a quality service within a professional and classy environment. Everyone from the Receptionist/Greeter to the barbers, are all pleasant and accommodating. The cuts are reasonably priced and you'd expect to pay higher when you walk through the door. They adhere to COVID safety measures and they wipe down the chairs, etc after every patron. My barber, Markuan is an excellent barber and gets me in and out without rushing. I appreciate that greatly. He is both personable and skilled. The shop provides many services but so far, I have only had cuts and I'm very pleased with the quality of the cut and the establishment also. If you are looking for good skilled professionals, then you need to head to Shears and Shaves. It's a very nice spot. Thank you. read more
