Don't be fooled Ladies. My service I must said was the worst ever today! I was definitely overcharged for a blow dry and an horrible curl job, In my opinion they do not care, Harlet's is the only one I am sure with a license to provide hair services. Problem is there is no hair care there, they think all black women hair need the same temperature too much over hot curlers and very hot blow drying. They are unaware how or when to adjust the heat for different textures or hair. That is definitely a Problem. So where is the HAIR CARE? Who is training these no licensed girls doing hair. Today was my last time coming to Harlet's. Most are unprofessional they act like they do not understand when you tell them how you want your hair, or that the blow dryer is too hot or the curlers are burning your hair. I think OSHA need to check the standards of the practice there. All individual stylists or (so-call stylists) are responsible to have a Valid Cosmetology license and should be display visibly, the Owner (Harlet) is responsible. To get my hair blowout and curls, but my experience was disappointing. The stylist who washed and dried my hair applied some type of hair straightener without my consent--which is completely unacceptable. My hair texture was 4C and my coils were always very defined and curly. I had to cut quite a bit out just to get my hair healthy again. As someone who embraces my natural hair, I feel this was a deceptive practice that could cause long-term damage. This salon needs to be held accountable for such practices, and I strongly urge my black natural hair sisters to be cautious. Your crown is precious--protect it at all costs! Just do your research everyone cannot be making this stuff up. I truly believe that they are putting some type of texturizer or relaxer in their conditioner or shampoo during the washing process to make clients with kinky hair more manageable. PS! There's hardly any organization. The beauticians are all over the place. You used to could walk in and be done within 2-3 hours, Now it's taking 4-5. Used to think highly of this place, until one of the stylist who flat irons burnt my hair in the back. From my nape up to 2 inch's up, fried n broken off. The back is your length. I have been growing my natural hair for 2 years, and just in one setting she ruined my progress, she lucky I didn't sue her or the owner Harlet!! Every women who come in there have different hair types, and the particular woman didn't adjust the temperature of the flat irons. I have naturally thin, curly 3C/4b hair. I literally had to tell the woman at station #2 short height, slender built with black shoulder length hair, to turn the flat irons down, she asked me WHY!! I told her because I can feel my hair breaking every time you run the flat iron through my hair!! The way she put heat, and strong pull down of the flat iron on my hair, is insane. I didn't even want to go to her, because I always noticed she does the ppl with short to damaged hair. I always preferred someone else, I never let her touch me before. I have been to Harlots several times. Initially I was satisfied. However small occurrences became a huge. 1. Once, as I awaited to have my hair roller set, I took note of the posters lining the shop's walls. The women were all white women when most of Harlot's customers are not. 2. Harlot's mom can speak English but doesn't, to the non Latina customers. She simply points dark complexed women in what direction she wants you sit. She only speaks English at the end when she is accepting your payment she then asks in English if you would like to leave a tip It's like she has a quiet disdain for those with dark skin. Once she snatched money out of my hands as she over paid me, when all she had to do was ask. She was completely rude. 3. I was told those from the Dominican Republic have low self esteem for their own ethnicity and are color struck even today in 2024. They favor those with light skin and straight hair. Shortly after her Mom snatched the money, I learned my hair pattern had been damaged due to their use of very high heat used to straighten and curl your hair. Harlot's shop is one festering with discrimination of those with dark skin, and Afro textured hair. read more

Harlet's is a great place to get your hair done. However if you wait a while between washes or if your hair is really dirty I recommend washing your hair before you get there and then letting them wash it again when you get there. Harlet is the best stylist there however there is a few more that is good, there is a woman to the right of her that is excellent as well. Harlet doesn't say much she is very assertive she is not gentle but her work is beautiful. Everyone works hard but they speak another language so it's not easy to communicate Harlet understands and speaks English her son do as well. I will not come here again. I won't lie, the wash and hair drying was nice and the ticket system works but a hairstylist should know where their capabilities end. I gave a reference photo for a style that I wanted for prom and I specifically said that I wanted that done but IF they couldnt then I just wanted my hair curled yet they said they could. for reference, my style had a braid and some pinned up curls. what I got was a mess; a thin loose braid and hair all pinned up with NO curls out, despite the reference having most out in the back. it looks absolutely NOTHING like the reference and although I knew it wasn't going to look exactly the same, this is just an atrocious joke at this point, a waste of almost $100 that I probably could have done myself. read more

The one thing that is totally disgusting and nasty is the girls putting the handle of the flat iron between their legs as they are curling your hair. This is not freaking salon etiquette. and Harlet has been made aware of this on multiple occasions, yet she chooses not to correct it. I don't know if your monthly is on and even it isn't there is no way that you should be doing that. It's the girl at the last booth and the one kitty corner behind her. In addition, the other girl who speaks no English burnt my scalp with the blow dryer. Harlet needs to invest in sending them to cosmetology and take an English course. Great place for a silk press and bone straight hair!!! I love that it is affordable!!! The ladies are nice and professional and they treat everyone fairly. It is a first come and first serve business. My only problem is that they need to use more heat protection spray because my hair was smelling like burnt hair after wearing my hairstyle for a week. My hair started falling out after I let them color it. I ended up having to cut about 10 inches of hair off initially followed by having to get it cut every time I got it done after that for two years. Worst decision I ever made letting them color my hair! I'm finally starting to retain length after 2.5 years. There is still some residual damage. Needless to say, if you go here DO NOT let them color your hair. Take your own shampoo and conditioner too because they are definitely putting some kind of straightener in them. Also, get a roller set instead of blow drying it straight. Otherwise, curls last for weeks! Still great people! Just understand they are more like apprentices than fully licensed cosmetologists. The husband is rude and they are but coming very petty with their policies. You can wait for over an hour and a half to get your hair done but if you step out in miss your number that's it and you can't have someone wait in your place. Clean, professional and inexpensive. Now here is my issue...the folks at the salon are beyond rude. They dont even acknowledge you at all. One of the patrons informed me that I needed a ticket since the lady I asked completely ignored me and yes she spoke english-they all do! As a matter of fact they all speak english fluently but choose to speak in their native tounge. I have never seen anyone leave out without their hair looking significantly better than what it was before they got there. It is an assembly line and there is no personal service, which is one of the sacrifices you have to make in a place where the majority of the customers are walk-ins. You have to take a number and wait your turn. Be prepared to wait 2 hours or longer if you go on a Friday or Saturday. They accept credit cards. They're quick, professional, and very reasonable with their prices which is unusual with hairstylists these days. They offer Dominican style (under the dryer) or blowout which is faster. Burnt hair! the smell is obvious when you enter the shop, however with the prices and speed (a thing of the past) many ignore it or at least I did until I noticed the smelled lingered for days. Eventually I realized my curl pattern would not return and my hair stayed straight and limp even when wet. I went to a licensed beautician (not stylist) who informed me the hair would need to be cut, this opinion was seconded by one of the stylist at this shop. After my last visit, I will never go again. For one, there is a young lady that seems shy and quiet. She use always gather the towels but now she's washing hair (her teeth seem to stick out a lot and she wears glasses...she washes hair upstairs) She was beyond rough and I couldn't wait to get out of the chair. During my wash and conditioning, my hair started to itch and tingle a little bit. That was alarming for me thinking I might have reaction to their conditioner..I let it go just ready to get the hell out of there. Now as I'm paying another red flag was the pay. I pay between 35-55 for my hair just flat ironed straight which isn't a problem but why does the price continuously fluctuate???? So a week later, I go to wash my hair and I don't have a curl in sight from the root completely down....now I'm wondering did they sneak a little bit of relaxer in my hair. I told my niece about my experience and her hair is literally in the same condition as mine. I will never go back and now I'm currently transitioning my hair.
