Located a block from THE Filmore on Filmore St. this casual dining restaurant has live entertainment 7 nights/week! It's a wonderful atmosphere and a cozy place to have date night with a live jazz band. They serve delicious Ethiopian dishes. The vegetarian platter comes on a large platter with smaller servings of their vegetarian dishes presented on spongy injera flatbread. We ordered a side of YASA-TIBS which is a catfish dish marinated in white wine and cooked with garlic, onions, bell peppers, scallions and tomatoes which is not too spicy. This is definitely one of their stand out dishes. The fish was soft and flaky and cooked just right. Overall the dishes are flavorful, savory and tasty. The owner stopped by our table to check on us and ensure our experience was enjoyable. Definitely coming back for the food and entertainment.

I had such a good time here with some friends! Loved the food and their drinks. Staff is very knowledgeable. The good/recs: - I enjoyed their apple cider drink and the drink that had lavender in it!!! At $13 and $15 a piece wow! - their stewed cabbage is the best I've had! But be careful because it's quite spicy. - we had a really knowledgeable waiter who was very precise with his language! - lots of seating and vibes when the piano band came to play around 7:) - I believe the owner came out to ask us how things are as well-/ that was a treat. Can't wait to come back to Sheba! The meh: Nothing!

Music every Wednesday through Sunday. The last Wednesday of the month, Dennis Palmieri plays and he is spectacular. The food is flavorful and the service is friendly and fun. The veggie sampler is a perfect plate of food. Add a protein for the center. Pro tip: get bottles of wine.

Sheba was poppin on a Saturday night, so it's kinda tough to get a table, but the wait at the bar was so worth it! Jazz starts around 7:30-8pm so stop by for dinner or a drink to enjoy the music. The vibe is warm, loud, and energetic. We got seated at a community table, the outer "couch" was comfy and there was enough table space for our own food. We ordered the sirloin sambussa which came with a spicy sauce. It was crunchy and the meat was incredibly flavorful! I could eat a whole bowl. For the main to share we ordered the vegetarian sampler which came with this amazing cabbage cooked with veggies, mesir wat lentils, yellow split peas, and collard greens. These veggies were all very flavorful with the injera. In the middle of the platter we also ordered the braised lamb with the Ethiopian herb sauce which was incredible, and the lamb melts in your mouth! The server also gave us some more injera which helped us finish the whole platter. Service was great and friendly! Overall, I had such a positive experience and I'm excited to go back with friends!!

Such a cute restaurant with such good food and vibes! Came here for dinner with friends and loved that they had vegan options lol. I got the lentil and injira and it was sooo good! a little spicier then anticipated but still so yum and filling! Also loved that they had jazz playing through the night (can't really see them though because of the layout). Also waited like 40 min from when we ordered to when we got out food which was a bit of a letdown but other than that no complaints!

Came to Sheba Piano Lounge on a Friday evening for dinner and live jazz. We had a great time and loved the food! We've tried to come before on a weekend and it was too busy so we were happy to get a table this time. The food and drink service was quick. We got the veggie sampler to split and it was very good. I liked getting to try all the different veggie dishes and the flavors were spicy and delicious. The injera was really good too and there was an adequate amount that came with the platter. We definitely want to return to try more of their food!!

Nice cozy spot, lovely live music , great lighting and ambiance. It's small but roomy, we only had drinks before concert at the Fillmore, very convenient location to Fillmore center and parking garage also, food smelled and looked good! Bartender was very friendly.

Overview: dark and cosy speakeasy with a full bar and good sound system.  Perfect for an intimate gathering. Meal/Time: Dinner Sunday 541 PM/ Party of 3 Seated: 541 PM Ordered:548 PM First ordered item arrived: 604 Decor/Atmosphere:  Really comfortable seatings.  The atmosphere feels warm. Staff is friendly.  The only downside is the lighting is a bit on the dim side... hard to read the menu.   Parking is a bit hard.  Took us a bit of time.   The neighborhood is bit on the rough side. Service/ Front of the House:  Felt welcome and greeted as we walked in.   Service/Serving Staff: wait staff is friendly and personable.  She gave us a big smile when she came up to the table, she came back a couple of times refilling water and making sure we had enough Injera.   Per the receipt her name is Yewibensh. Food:  if you order from the "Out of Africa" menu, it's more of a family style so large shareable portions.  You get a plate of Injera, like a spongy flat bread that you tear into small pieces to pickup  the food.  No real flavor to add or to interfere with the entree. Beg Alecha ($28) Tender pieces of lamb braised slowly in green pepper, with yellow onions, Ethiopian herb sauce, ginger, rosemary, turmeric and jalapeno pepper. A little bit spicy.  The sauce is just pure awesome...  If I had a bowl of white rice that sauce is going right on top of it.  Really goes well with the slight gaminess of lamb.    Vegetarian Sampler ($29) sample of the 4 vegetarian entrees on the menu. GOMEN - Fresh collard greens & spinach w/ green onions, garlic, oregano, ginger & tomatoes.  Really good, my actual favorite item.  I just love collard greens.  The greens were tender, it will go well with the lamb. KIK ALICHA - Yellow split peas cooked & flavored w/ turmeric, onion & Ethiopian herbs.  Not really a big pea fan, but I could not tell it was peas.  But not as bland and the English mushy peas. MESIR WAT - Lentils cooked w/ chopped onions, garlic, olive & mild Berbere sauce.  Really good flavor, could not taste any olives for those that might be adverse to olives. ATAKILT KILIKIL - Fresh cabbage, carrots, green peppers & onions sautéed w/ garlic, ginger, turmeric and tomatoes.  This was actually the most boring item I had tonight.  The cabbage was the star and all the other veggies played supporting roles.   Yasa Tibs ($28) Sautéed catfish marinated in white wine and cooked with garlic, onions, bell peppers, scallions and tomatoes.  Large chunks of catfish, juicy and tender.  Seasoning hid that "catfish" flavor, it could have been any other type of firm white fish.  Excellent dish.  Tibs Wat ($28) Sautéed prime beef simmered in Berbere sauce, a touch of Nit'ir Kibe (Ethiopian purified butter) & cardamom.  The beef is really shredded.  This makes it easy to pickup with the Injera.  Really flavorful, not a bit spicy at all. Value:  At about $28 a plate, the value for the quality of the food is good.  For those who want to venture into Ethiopian cuisine, this is a good entry point. Restroom: single Men's Room at the back of the dining area, to the right of the bar  Clean, well stocked and very roomy. Will I come back?:  Yes I would come back... I would like to try the sea bass on the "regular" menu.

had such a wonderful experience at Sheba Piano Lounge! From the moment I walked in, everything felt welcoming and thoughtfully done. The owners were incredibly kind and made the atmosphere feel so warm and inviting. A special shoutout to our server Raghad who was so friendly, attentive and genuinely made us feel taken care of throughout the whole visit. The bartender was also fantastic very attentive and added to the great overall vibe. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the sliders and fries they were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. A big thank you to the amazing kitchen team the people behind the scenes who prepared such a great meal your work truly made the experience special The music was excellent and really elevated the whole experience it created such a great ambiance and made the night even more enjoyable Overall, everything was just perfect from the service to the ambiance to the food I will definitely be coming back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dining experience!

A wonderful location to host a happy hour! My alumni group rented out a portion of the lounge for an appreciation happy hour and it was spectacular. Netsanet and her sister are absolutely amazing humans who have really given SF a taste of Ethiopian food and culture. Our menu items were small bites with an Ethiopian flair, including meatballs, sambusa, misir, kik, and a charcuterie spread. I cant wait to come back to enjoy some jazz and a full meal.

Walked into a jazz ensemble! Killing time and found this place. The food looks good! But since we had dinner already we opted for a cheese platter and tiramisu with our drinks this evening. Good to know that there is a live jazz band that plays here every Sunday. Lots of people and the host was very nice. I'm glad we came!

Let's start with the good, because there actually was a lot of it: Security -- great. Funny, charismatic, and welcoming as we entered. Bar staff -- great. Attentive, helpful, and quick with our food and drinks. They checked in on us regularly throughout the night. Drinks -- delicious. Well-balanced and flavorful. Food -- great for an after-dinner outing. The truffle fries and potato skins were perfect snacks. Other customers/patrons -- AMAZING. The people around us were fun, friendly, and clearly there to have a good time. With all of those positives, I really wish I could give Dueling Pianos a much better review. Sadly, the reason we actually went, The Dueling Pianos Show, is also the reason I don't think we'll ever return. Our group of four arrived a little after 9 PM on a Saturday night. We happily paid the $20/person cover because I've been here before and always had an amazing experience. It was "Requests Night," so patrons were invited to submit song requests along with a monetary contribution. After spending $80 just to get in and another $200 on food and drinks, we felt a $5 contribution for a song was reasonable. Apparently, Noah didn't. We requested anything by Mac Dre or Too $hort, or, if needed, "All the Small Things" by Blink-182. One of the musicians on stage was absolutely amazing! He was incredibly talented and honestly worth watching on his own. Unfortunately, throughout the evening, Noah repeatedly made comments implying that if you actually wanted your requested song played, you needed to contribute more than $10. Side note: Apparently Noah's wife was also at the show that evening, which made his repeated emphasis on how much money people needed to give him for requests even more interesting. It was a little sad that the money seemed to become such a major focus of the performance. After about 90 minutes without hearing our request, we decided to cancel it and request our $5 back through Venmo. Could we have just left the $5 as a tip? Absolutely. But earlier in the evening, Noah had publicly joked about another customer accidentally "requesting" money instead of "paying" through Venmo. We thought requesting our $5 back might give him another opportunity for some lighthearted comedic relief. It did not! Instead, Noah became offended and proceeded to improvise a song about us, calling us out by name and disrespecting us in front of the entire room. What could have been a funny, harmless interaction quickly became uncomfortable and unnecessarily mean spirited. And apparently, we weren't the only ones who felt that way. Two parties who had just entered saw what was happening and immediately decided to leave in support of us. Another customer, someone we didn't even know, went to the bar staff because he was so disappointed by how we were being treated. He even told them, "I really don't think they should pay for anything here." That honestly meant a lot. So did the bartender's response. He encouraged me to write this review and said he would be informing his manager about what happened. I understand what Dueling Pianos is. It's live music. It's comedy. It's audience interaction. You might get teased. You might become part of the joke. But there is a difference between playful crowd work and publicly humiliating paying customers because you're upset they requested their $5 back. That distinction matters. And, for the record, we never actually received that $5 back, despite Noah repeatedly insisting, while berating us from the stage, that he had returned it. I have great memories of this place pre-COVID. Saturday nights used to mean a line around the corner, a packed dance floor, and barely a table available. Last night, the venue seemed maybe 50% full. I genuinely hope this experience isn't representative of what Dueling Pianos has become. The staff treated us well. The drinks and food were great. One of the musicians was incredibly talented. And the kindness shown to us by complete strangers was probably the best part of the evening. But unfortunately, Noah's behavior overshadowed all of it. One performer turned what should have been a fun girls' night out into an experience that lost not only our patronage, but the recommendations we would have given to our friends. And that's really a shame, because we came ready to have a great time.

The shows have always been amazing and I will go back to see some of them. However, I can't say I'll be back for anything else. I went for Dore Alley Fair. I waited in line an appropriate amount of time no issues there. Paid the entry went it in and ordered a drink. I asked the bartender if he could cash a larger bill that the ATM had given me and he said yes but it may be a lot of 5's, 10's and some 1's. No problem there. The music was good, crowd was good having a great time. After drink three I decided to go out and get some food from the truck that was just outside the club... literally, you opened the door to leave and you are standing in front of the truck. When I went to pay for my food it was then I realized something was not right. I paid and while I waited counted what was in my wallet and I was off by $40. This has happened to me before at Oasis but thought maybe this.. maybe that ... happened and gave the benefit of the doubt. etc... Now it is just before 7:30 pm and I go to enter the club and I am denied. They announce no more entry into the club for anyone ... the club is full. I showed them my stamp and said "but I have a stamp..." They said it didn't matter and closed the door on me, literally. First what is the point of paying and getting a stamp if you can't leave and return, I didn't even go but a few feet away and when I walked out there was still plenty of room in there. Secondly, How is it possible that a club that size is full at 7:30 pm on Sunday even when it id Dore Alley Fair? So while there shows I will go and see because I enjoy them I am not going to pay a door fee, spend $16 per cocktail ($14 + $2 tip) to be treated so rudely and to be ripped off by a bar tender.

Our guests would not stop raving about the music all night and weeks after! We loved every second of it. The dance floor was full from start to finish. If you are looking for musicians who will genuinely make your day feel like YOUR day, book Radio Gatsby. You will not regret it!

I hired the Turnaround for a private event earlier this year (pre-pandemic). I actually found them…read moreonline, but once I listened to their samples, I knew they were the right choice. These guys are the real deal--consummate musicians who are experts at their craft--and it shows in every note they play and in every interaction with their audience. From the beginning, Alexey demonstrated his knowledge and professionalism. He helped us plan out what the event could look like, and really helped us set the tone of the party (which was held in honor of a budding musician, so the music mattered a great deal to us). Not only did he help with set up and organization, but also helped us coordinate a sound man (who played incredible Spanish guitar during the band's breaks). He absolutely gave us the right information for the space and timing of the event, and because of that, we were able to make good decisions as to the size of the band (they are flexible), timing of the event, and song list. As far as the music goes, it was awesome. We're huge big band, bebop and cool jazz fans, and their playing (and singing) knocked it out of the park. We hand-picked many selections, but we trusted Alexey to fill in the gaps to build the Turnaround's sets. The flow ended up being spot-on, in large part due to how well Alexey constructed the sets, but also how well he read the crowd. We really appreciated his flexibility as to timing, and his communication with us and the other staff as the evening went on. The proof was really in the playing, though. There were many musicians in the audience (pros and semi-pros) and they all agreed that the band was amazing. Mostly, we appreciated the generosity he showed our guest of honor, who played a song with the band. The members of the band showed so much courtesy, it was as pleasurable to watch the mini rehearsal as much as it was to watch the final performance. TL/DR: The Turnaround is awesome, and will elevate any event, either for musicians or non-musicians. Hire them.

We each had a large piece of the bread which is used to pick up the food. I would suggest getting a couple of utensils to help with serving so it's not so messy. Anyway, the food was delicious. My favorite was the lamb and the catfish. We ordered the mild spice level and I thought that already had a good flavor. The restaurant itself has a very comfortable atmosphere. Service was great. Our server was very helpful and gave us a good amount of attention. I recommend making reservation.

To start off, we ordered some beverages and appetizers: one order each of the meat and veggie sambusas. These were yummy, with a lovely flaky pastry and delicious filling. The veggie one was a little better, since it had a lot more variety; the meat one was filled solely with seasoned ground beef. For our main, we got the platter for 4, and added two meat dishes. This amount of food ended up being perfect for our group of 4 hungry people after a few hours of exercise.
