This tasting room is nestled right in the Plaza Don Luis. I love this place and the staff is always so friendly and welcoming.They have a nice wine selection and my favorite from is the Chardonnay. I was picking up my quarterly wine shipment on Wednesday. Had the pleasure of meeting Ellen. Had been up at Sheehan's Red River location in the past. Had a delightful tasting. Was in a hurry and she kindly handled my rushed schule. We talked about what I hadn't tasted . Came home with a bottle of the Chenin Blanc and the 2023 Tempranillo. Sheehan is da top shelf high grade zenith bad ma'am-a jam-ma of New Mexico nectar, and I may be understating the situation.... If you've never heard Sean Sheehan share the "birth story" of this winery, or all of the delicate intrinsic details of the grape and its processes... you're missing out. It really should be on your bucket list. *Are we sure Sean wasn't part of "THE JASONS" brought over to the U.S. to work on matters of an "alchemical sensitive nature," and this winery is just his cover? Can anyone confirm or deny?!? Cause his brew is pure magic* Over the moon that this tasting room has opened in Old Town, and joining the wine club is really the only path, my friends. So many perks, and by far the most sensical way to stock your apocalypse bunker pantry shelves and secure your future happiness....am I right, or am I right?!? My recommendations? Well, Chambourcin is my love language, but let it be said that there is much more to be explored in the Sheehan-multiverse. The Cinsault Rosé is such a brilliant gem (speaking from someone who doesn't really do "Rosé") - that Tempranillo, tho...buenissimo! My most recent discovery is the Ollpheist - scrump-didly-umptious! This is a cute winery located in Old Town Albuquerque. It is a bit hidden as are most of the shops in Old Town. There is no food here but you can bring food in from other places around, we did not do this. The person working on the day we went was fairly new so I am glad I had read the reviews before going as she really did NOT tell us much about the wines nor the wine flights. We did get 1 wine flight to share which I believe was called the New Mexico flight. The wines were good but again the person working really needed more training as the pours were not great. When asking what the pours were 2 oz or 3 oz she pointed to an imaginary line on the glass. read more

If your looking for a local winery and a place to try a taste and see what you like, or what would pair good with a food. This place is a great start. It's located in Old town which is a great location. I walked in and got greeted right away, found a nice place to sit, plenty of tables and nice atmosphere. I was given a menu and a explanation of what each section to look for. Sweet, dry...ect. The menu had a good selection and choices. I picked 3 of the sweet wines. I was given a good amount to taste and along with the wine you have a choice to get a charcuterie to go along with the tasting. They didn't have the meat one so I went with the cheese, with some fruit, nuts and veggies which was fine. I liked all 3 wines but my favorite was the #2. Not sure what other places there are for local wine tasting but, I was happy to have tried this place first. read more

What a fun tasting room. The service was great. We appreciated the information shared with us about the wines. We ordered some nibbles... which were yummy. I wish we had real plates and utensils to use instead of landfill-bound items. Through our Yelp ambassador and fellow New Mexico resident Destiny L., I learned about the Sheehan Winery Old Town Tasting Room. Sheehan is the namesake of its owner with vineyards that I know of in at least Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Although I don't make it up to Albuquerque often as it is a 5-hour drive from where I currently reside, I ensured this was at the top of my bookmarks when I said goodbye to my daughters and ex-husband on 6/13/2023. I'm glad I did as Lucy, my server, was super informative and friendly! I opted to do the "Taste of New Mexico" tasting. It had five wines to select from which is $15 per person, but Lucy - who also organizes the book club here - offered to let me do a side-by-side tasting of both rosés. They also have a "choose your own flight" option with 6 tastings. If that does't suit your fancy, you can have a glass of wine or there were a couple of cocktails and I think beer that they offered. I had traveled to a few vineyards in Mexico and Southern California last summer. It is true that New Mexico wines tend to be on the sweeter side. Taste of New Mexico Flight: #1 - Gruner Vetliner. I really enjoyed this white wine. Gladly, I bought a bottle ($24). #2 - Dry Rosé or Semi-Sweet Rosé. As previously mentioned, I got to try both. I could not decide which I enjoyed more. #3 - Olliphiest. All I wrote in my notes for this one was "okay." Lol. Day drinking after being up since 5AM is all I can say. #4 - ELG Mourvedre. This one has grapes from the border of France & Spain, but they now hail from Las Cruces. I loved this red wine. It was good and smooth. I can envision a green chile dish paired with this! So I bought a 2020 bottle ($25). #5 - Red port or white port. I chose the red. It was too sweet for me. Should have brought snacks to solve that problem. It's a lovely little shop in the very unique, historic area of Old Town Albuquerque. Add this place to your bookmarks the next time you're in the area. There are quite a few wine tasting rooms across Albuquerque and New Mexico as a whole. If you want to say you've tried them all, Sheehan must be on that list. Specifically their new-ish tasting room in Old Town. On top of always friendly staff, Sheehan has one of the smaller but cleaner menus of the different wineries in town. They still have a decent sized menu but less frill than some of the other wineries. I personally prefer sweetish-whites but there really is something for everyone. Plus you can order food from one of the nearby spots to enjoy with your wine. I highly recommend ordering a wine flight to try a few different ones for your perfect fit. My friend Merry and I are a little bit of winos. She was looking for a local winery with a wine club to join. We stopped into the Old town tasting room and were blown away. I'm ever the realist, and so I wanted to wait to join the wine club until we had tasted the wine. Merry was already all in from reading about them. The Old Town tasting room is a cute place to unwind. Like most of Old Town, it's quiet, and they have plenty of seating. They have a cute little store and beautiful artwork for sale on the walls. Upstairs is a lounge for wine club members, and they also do private parties. They are a small winery and they do wax instead of foil. They hand dip the wax themselves, no machine. It's personalized touches like that, that make them feel homey. They have quite a wine selection, more than is on the menu. I have not had wine there that I disliked; everything is just a varying degree of deliciousness. Whether you like sweet or dry, red or white, they have something that will appeal to even the most discerning of wine lovers. Since they tell you about the wine in great detail before you try it, you are very unlikely to end up with a wine you dislike. One of my current favorites is the Turas. It's a red port described as "Notes of rich blackberry, toasted caramel, and rich chocolate make this a perfect wine to pair with dessert...or as dessert." It was an oopsy wine and boy am I glad they had the happy accident. It's made with merlot grapes that were too sweet for merlot so they added brandy to it and made a port. Their 2019 Grand Reserve Cabernet is also amazing. It's smooth and leaves you with lingering flavor. There are many more wines that I enjoy but I'll leave you with this, you should go try it for yourself, you'll find something you love. read more

Being somewhat of connoisseurs of vino and having relocated from an area notoriously excellent for offering so many vineyards and wine tasting- we have been amazed... that the Southwest has so many qualities that stand out. As you well know, if you're a wine connoisseur, it is subjective and varying from one's own taste and inclination. Due to rather diverse variances in each experience, or attempt to compare one winery, vineyard, grape or wine to another, I have developed a method in scoring that will give both the occasional novice wine taster or the most sophisticated connoisseur a bearing on each establishment by visited, based on our single, or sometimes multiple visits to each location. My tastings included offerings from Corrales and Bosque Farms vineyards eliciting excellent renditions of Merlot and Chardonnay, and from Elyce Vineyards very good Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Heretofore my guidelines are: 1) the owner/operators' attention to their customers and hospitality [ Scored:4.0 ]; 2) activities, events and/or meals, munchies, entertainment [ Scored:2.5 ]; 3) wine selection, quality, taste and varieties [ Scored:4.0 ]; and 4) heavily weighted on our taste [ Scored:5.0 ]; as well as 5) value, consistency and price of the product [ Scored:4.5 ]. What a hidden gem! Sheehan Winery makes the most incredible wine. The old town tasting room is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day. My fave wines to taste are the Sauvignon blanc, the Pinot Gris, the Rose, the Malbec and the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon but you can't go wrong with any of them as they are all so good. What makes Sheehan winery unique when comparing them to other New Mexico wineries is their winemaking style. They have a unique way of bringing out the best flavors. I really enjoy their wine as most of them tend to be on the dryer side whereas many NM wines tend to be sweeter. You'll still find a couple sweet wines on their menu but plenty of dry options to appease even the most critical sommelier! read more

We came through Albuquerque for the night and was looking for some things to do when my wife found Sheehan Winery. We have dear friends named Sheehan so felt compelled to visit. It surpassed our expectations! A lovely atmosphere, relaxing music, and great wine! We were served by Trish who is a local resident with an engaging personality. Not only was she helpful with choosing our wines, she made recommendations for dinner and breakfast. Needless to say we left with a bag of wine and great memories. The server today was so nice! We wanted to do a tasting and they said they don't do tastings anymore, especially when it's busy but she was nice and let us do the tasting. There were only two other tables so they were very kind about it. We each got to pick five wines and got one ounce pours of each. We sat outside to enjoy the nice weather and listened to some live music at the plaza. It was a very comforting environment and the wines were delicious! One thing I'll mention is that the glass wasn't rinsed between red and white wines, which is a pet peeve for many people. Especially if you're a wine person. But it wasn't that big of a deal as the wines were delicious, the service was great, and the music was lovely. Would definitely recommend for a fun activity with friends, family, or a partner. I had the pleasure of enjoying Sheehan's wines with my father this afternoon, after walking on the plaza and doing some holiday shopping. I'll be back! read more

While visiting friends in Albuquerque, we met up with some friends of theirs who are club members for conversation and wine. A great experience. We brought along our own small bites - meats, various cheeses and breads - and sampled the flight of red wines, some Cabs, a Merlot and a Malbec. The wines were good - I left with two bottles of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon - the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable; and the staff was fantastic. The employee Anne was very kind and knowledgeable. The flow of our tasting was a bit slow due to staffing. Anne was the only employee working that evening and there was about 3-4 parties there to taste as well. The wine tasting room was also hosting a paint night event upstairs. Not Anne's fault but she needed some help and couldn't get to everyone in a timely manner. She did her best and was still professional. We ended up purchasing 3 bottles of wine. First, I must note that I really like Sheehan wines. The recently opened Taproom on Romero in Old Town is very modern, warmly lit, and not too noisy. I tasted a flight of five small pours, and you can choose whichever wines you'd like to taste. Servers were busy, but very attentive. As of this week, food is not directly available at Sheehan tasting room, but there are many restaurants nearby for takeout while you are tasting. Sheehan offers all of the wines available, even those not on the large tasting menu. Just ask if you want a special bottle that you don't see listed. One of my favorites is Slainte, and when I asked I was able to purchase a few bottles. Sheehan Tasting Room is a welcome addition to Old Town. read more

I have only had Sheehan wines a couple of times over the years so was eager to check this place out. It's located right on the plaza, adjacent to a cute little courtyard. Service was fantastic, knowledgeable, and we were able to try a great selection of wine. I absolutely loved the rose as well as their Sangiovese. They had a great selection for any palate and were reasonably priced for the quality of wines offered. The tasting room can get pretty crowded but there is a good amount of seating and a few patio seats as well. A lot of New Mexico wines skew to the sweeter side which I really don't care for at all. While they have some sweet wines, they truly shine with their more traditional dry wines with a high quality selection that is not very common in New Mexico. Overall, I'm really glad we stumbled across this little gem and we will definitely be keeping it in mind when we're in the area! read more

I came with friends right after helping pick some grapes at their vineyard. My star loss has to do with the staffing during the balloon fiesta of all times. On a Saturday during the daytime of balloon fiesta only ONE single woman was scheduled to work and was so overwhelmed I felt awful for her, she had every single table full with zero help, impatient guests, and no backup. Please with a large event like that schedule at least 2 servers at all time, yes there might be lulls, but she wouldn't be 20 minutes deep in dishes and running around like crazy. read more

Fun wine tasting in downtown ABQ! We enjoyed our visit and the service was lovely. We try to support local businesses.

This place had a nice five flight of wine to try with two white wines, two red wines, and a light sweet wine. As soon as I was running dry on a glass, the server came right away with the next drink on the flight list. She was also very informative about the wines and the aromatics. My favorite was the Chardonnay hands down. My least favorite was the first red, Cabernet Franc. It kind of smelled like foot and left a bitter taste in my mouth. My friend liked it so maybe just not my kind of wine. I did like all the other wines on the list. The second white wine on the list, Vidal, had a fruity taste to it which I have never actually tasted in a wine. It also smelled really good. The place itself was very cute and intimate. I would definitely come here on a date with my husband or just to hang out with some girlfriends. Having Old Town around you makes it really convenient to do other things after it closes. read more

We are so excited that the tasting room has finally opened! It is such a beautiful place and, of course, the wine is excellent! We went to pick up our wine club order for the quarter and did a wine tasting when we got there. You get to pick the five wines you want to taste from a nice selection of wines which is a nice way to do a tasting. Autumn served us and did a very good job of taking care of our table. Bonnie even stopped by while we were there and it's always nice to visit with Shawn Sheehan's mom. We found out that they also plan on having food once all the permits are received and we are looking forward to seeing what the tasting room will be serving. If you have never tried Sheehan wine, you need to go try it! They also have a great wine club which gives you 20% of all wine purchases.
