The Owl is the perfect warm-up course and a great option to get kids and new players engaged in the sport. The Hawk has a nice mix of woods and big, open fairways. The Falcon is my personal favorite. It's tight and technical and perfect for a quick, challenging game. The Eagle takes that to a whole other level with longer holes, bigger fairways, and a few open holes for big hyzers. The pro shop is fully stocked with most of the plastic you throw. They have a large selection of carts, bags, baskets, apparel, and a variety of gear you need to enjoy a day on the course. The greens fees are very reasonable. You get what you pay for and at Sabattus, you're definitely getting your money's worth. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, open, and welcoming. If you are new to the sport and want to give it a try, talk to them. They will help you out, make suggestions, and will start you off the right way with the right gear. Because the equipment is so inexpensive overall, and people often start with more disc than they can handle, it's common to buy discs you don't need and can't throw correctly when you start off. The crew here will help to prevent that. Based on my experience and the conversations I've witnessed, they will set you on the right path and give you an indicator on when to buy the next speed disc. Overall, this is one of my favorite courses. It's really one of the gems of the New England disc golf scene. If you're local, give it a try. If you're from out of state, make the trip.

It works on a slightly different hook-in system, but doing it this way invites you to be present in what you are doing, and also adds another level of safety when you and buddy are looking out for each other. There are multiple levels of the ropes course, each more challenging than the other. The ground level is made for kids under 12 and it's a great intro to the latching system and "learning the ropes", so to speak. The very top level is black diamond level difficulty... I've seen a few kids brought to tears up there, and I imagine some adults have cried too. But there are a few levels in between that are a good balance of fun and challenging, while also very safe. Another great upside of buying the full ticket is the zip lines. So much fun! There are a few that you can access from the main course and a few that are nestled in the woods. I was terrified of zip lining before visiting and now I feel good about it. A lot of that is how skilled and thoughtful the whole staff is. They make you feel safe and also encourage you to face your fears and have a great time! Shout out to Bethel for running the whole show and creating a memorable experience for both kids and adults alike. They are only open for the summer and it's a good idea to make a reservation online, just in case it's a particularly busy day. Can't wait to return next year!

Spring through Fall there is a 4th location with additional programs and an outdoor pool. Auburn has dedicated steam rooms for men and women. Lisbon road has a heated indoor pool, large sauna and a hot tub. Classes are terrific, as are the individual trainers. Equipment and programs are up to date. Staff will never ignore you to scroll on their phones. They're always ready to give a tour for new and prospective members.

At that time it was just the founder Bob Miner and his wife giving tours. Now DH has grown to be a sprawling animal sanctuary that even had a short stint reality TV show at one point (really sad that did not continue). Currently, with all of the expansion, it is now hard for visitors to get a sense of how Bob started the sanctuary by taking in exotic animals seized by the Maine warden service and how creating a sanctuary for those animals helped him heal from PTSD he was experiencing as a Vietnam veteran. I almost wish there was a welcome video in the visitors center... In any case, this is an incredible spot to check out if you happen to be in the area!
