Louisville Dog Wizard - Tizzy, the Graduate

Our goldendoodle Charlie was driving us crazy before we called Dog Wizard. Within one week Destiny…read morehad helped us with a few of our most annoying behaviors and the progress continued. I cannot say enough good things about Destiny. Her teaching style is upbeat and encouraging and honestly funny. I was a clueless dog owner and she always made me feel like I was doing a great job. Truly worth every penny to be able to enjoy our Charlie!

It was after several years of dog-sitting a Dog Wizard graduate (Cooper) for weeks at a time that…read morewe knew when we brought home our (Tizzy), mannerless, hyper, barking, stubborn, six pounds of fur and bark, we needed the Dog Wizard's help. Destiny Spence, was assigned to us by The Dog Wizard (louisville@thedogwizard.com). Their system worked well and met our needs. First, we were able to easily schedule all of our appointments in advance. Because Tizzy was six months old and we had a time crunch for completing her training, we opted for the private "in-home and public spaces plan. After meeting Tizzy, AND US, Destiny agreed that was what Tizzy needed. Destiny took charge and quickly showed us how to get Tizzy's attention, reward, and NOT reward her behavior. She did the same with us, too, because only one of us is almost a disciplinarian. After each class, Destiny sent us a reminder of what was covered and expected in the next class. Tizzy successfully graduated by passing all her classes. She knows how to walk correctly on a leash, place on the spot where I want her, come to me ALL OF THE TIME, even when she's outside, and that NO means stop whatever she's doing. Our house is much quieter now because she knows NO means stop barking and being hyper. An added compliment to Destiny is that she was prompt, consistently communicated with all of us, and was honest in pointing out when we were the problem, not Tizzy. Yes, we highly recommend The Dog Wizard and Destiny Spence for both dogs and their family members. ADDITIONAL COMMENT: THE ONE NEGATIVE COMMENT ON YELP IS ABOUT THE FRANKFORT LOCATION. PLEASE IGNORE AS IT SHOULD BE REMOVED.

After the very first visit, I was astonished and how well my 6-month-old Golden Retriever responded. I went from being frustrated and, honestly, disappointed in myself, to one of hope and excitement for our future. It is some of the best money I've spent. It was an investment that has give me a return of more than I could have ever dreamed of. I know that I have Doug's support throughout Zahra's lifetime and that, to me, is priceless. In my opinion, you will find none better than Doug with Bark Busters. Zahra and I are forever grateful we found him through the recommendation of my nephew, who used Doug for help with his Giant Schnauzer. You will not be disappointed, I can promise you that!

WORTH EVERY PENNY AND ASTONISHINGLY FAST!…read more Doug Rountree with Bark Busters of Louisville is fantastic! In the first hour, he completely changed the way we interact with our dog. Before we began the training, our puppy was lovable but demanding and thought she was in charge of our whole family. Practically 90% of her behavior problems (like mouthing/biting, barking, jumping on people, pulling) are virtually gone in less than a day! The rest are already much improved and I'm sure those will continue to get better as we reinforce our expectations with her. Our home is a much more peaceful, enjoyable place and our pup definitely seems happier and less stressed now that we have set clear, consistent rules in a language that she can understand. I love that it's done without treats or physical correction but instead uses how dogs naturally communicate to change behavior. Thank you Doug!

6/4/22- Here's my review of Artisan Dog Training (Adam)…read more Adam spent 2-months on my Dutch Shepherd correcting problem areas & teaching good obedience.  Initially I wanted to focus on this and that for Cassie, but I was going about it the wrong way. Initially during a few 1-hr sessions, I saw Adam's mastery in action almost instantly.  I realized that  weekly 1-hr classes weren't cutting it, and that month-long bootcamps were MUCH better for my hyper Dutch Shepherd. She was hyper, wouldn't listen, had obedience issues, beginning to be destructive, and VERY unsocialized (frightened of people!).  Not good for a Dutch Shepherd puppy of 3-months!! During the 2-month bootcamp, Adam first established a framework to FOCUS my dog's attention by establishing trust & communication which doesn't happen overnight.  This takes time, but KEY to garner my dog's obedience. Once done, Adam was able to unlock my dog's potential & focus on obedience training for her to be a good citizen. These are the things Adam worked on with Cassie: - Corrected bad behavior (jumping, biting/nipping) - Basic Commands (come, heel, down, wait...etc) - On/off leash activities (verbal/non-verbal commands) - MAJOR work on socialization (people, dogs) My lack of understanding how to socialize my puppy had drastic effects on her.  She would cower behind me or pull away strongly when meeting strangers.  Fixing this took more than just going to PetSmart for socialization.  She needed to focus first, understand that strangers were normal.  Again, Adam worked pretty hard on this. Result: My hyper Dutch Shepherd was much more manageable, no longer jumped on me or would bite thinking it was play.  She also learned how to potty on command & her socialization improved GREATLY compared to before!  Now I have to do "my part" to reinforce this training & make this permanent.

The place was not clean and looked disorganized. A man opened the door and let me and my two young daughters in. I was a little confused and asked some questions. The man started talking really fast and walking away while talking to me. I could tell he was getting frustrated and he was acting really weird. At this point I didn't feel comfortable leaving my dog. The place inside was dark and dirty. I went with my gut feeling, cancelled my appointment and got out of there!

Gentleman who answered couldn't find any appointment under my name. Then insisted I had called some other groomer. Asked for owner twice while talking to this guy. Finally talked to owner who seemed nice enough asked me what kind of dog I had, and was able to find appointment, under someone else's name? I'm like ok we are good to go, I'm a new appointment, no one bothers to tell me about this new procedure for intake of dogs. Arrive 15 minutes early as I didn't know how the traffic would be, The place had cages blocking the doorways with signs on them. I had not brought my distance glasses, couldn't read signs from vehicle and did not want to leave dog in car. Called office, tried to explain situation this same gentleman who answers. He was kinda rude and annoyed I had called. Told me to leave dog in cage and back out of cage and leave. Tried to explain to him that I was new, he said he'd bring out that paper work. He opened he door and stared at me for a minute or two didn't bring out any paper work. I finally got out of my truck and sat down on a chair located outside on porch. He came out again with out paper work and started to order me around like he was some kind of "police officer." He's behavior was absolutely bazaar. I wasn't going to leave my dog until I felt comfortable after this surreal encounter with this organization. Finally this man told me to "hurry up"and put my dog in the kennel, as he had other appointments scheduled. I was still at this point 8 minutes before their official opening time and no one was in the parking lot and he hadn't given me any intake papers. At this point, after this absurd treatment and the lack of customer service skills exhibited by this man, I felt the situation and safely of my dog did not warrant leaving my dog in his care. And I left.
