We arrived in Louisville just over three years ago and we tried MANY other places around town. Some were ok, some I would never take her back to, but NONE of them compare to Barks on Bauer! The first time we met the owners, Lynda and Bill, we felt immediately at ease. It's just so obvious how much they love animals! Moreover, they actually live on the second floor of the building, meaning that there's always someone on site when we leave our girl there overnight. Their space is clean, modern, and the dogs clearly love it! CJ knows the route from our house to Barks and once it's clear that's where we're heading she actually starts squeaking with anticipation and can't wait to get in the door. If there's any question that she loves it, when we come to pick her up, she runs to greet us, but then runs back to say "goodbye" to Bill before we can leave! The location itself is very convenient and the on-site parking makes drop off and pick up a breeze. There's also a peace of mind that comes with knowing that there's an animal hospital adjacent to Barks and that the two businesses have a great relationship. When it comes to cost and convenience, we've never found a better place! We've had family emergencies arise and they have been able to take CJ for a few nights with very little notice, something we still deeply appreciate. Finally, I'd be remiss not to mention how much CJ loves daycare there! After being so excited to get there, she spends a day playing and then comes home absolutely exhausted. If it's true that a tired dog is a happy dog, then we have one happy girl on Barks days! Not only that, but it really takes her a couple days to recover completely from a day of daycare. Of course, I think she gets extra excited when someone has a birthday and they have a party. Yep, that's right, dog birthday parties at dog day care. And the pictures they post online are even better than you'd imagine! We have have only had wonderful experiences with Barks on Bauer and, if it isn't obvious, we take caring for CJ pretty seriously! I absolutely recommend Barks to any dog owner who's looking for socialization, a caring team, and a wonderful experience for their dog!

I appreciate that Bill and Lynda are crazy-dog friendly. Winnie is an 85 pound lab and mastiff mix. She is every stereotypical thing you've heard about young labs. She's very sweet and friendly - but she's also a high energy vocal spazz. She's stayed at other facilities that were clearly annoyed by her rambunctious nature - so I always appreciate that Bill and Lynda seem happy when she visits. Bill and Lynda are also neurotic-owner friendly. They reply to my check-ins quickly. As time has went on I typically only check on her once a day (which is a significant decrease) - but that just goes hand in hand with trusting that they are caring for her. Anyone who has ever loved an animal knows that it can be difficult to leave them places - but that burden is eased when you feel like they are in capable and loving hands. Barks on Bauer also provides other services such as in-home pet sitting, dog walking, baths, nail trims, and birthday parties. If your dog needs medications, they're able to give them what they need. I love that they post pictures and videos of the dogs on Facebook so you can see them playing. They're literally right behind Chenoweth Animal Hospital - which is comforting to me to know they're so close in case anything happened. I have taken my dog here for both play dates and boarding. I always ask to watch my dog through…read morethe window when I first leave him, especially for play dates to see how he does around other dogs. I am disappointed that the person that stays in the kennel with the dogs does not try to engage the more introverted dogs. They completely ignore them and just let them sit off by themselves. So basically I'm paying for my dog to sit in a huge cage watching other dogs play for while he hides for the whole day. He's not the only one that does this either. The other thing that really bothers me, and that I think is unfair is that the large dog kennel has a really nice, large tarp over their pen that gives them a lot of shade during the heat of the day. It also has a nice big pool and a few small ones as well. The small dog pen has a small tarp that only covers one corner of their pen and there is a cabinet of some type and a water hose and a tub of water under there so no room for many of the littles to get out of the sun and into the shade and we all know how hot concrete gets on the pads of their feet. I've asked about this several times and suggest a larger tarp but it falls on deaf ears. I also only saw one small plastic pool for them. My dog has only boarded once at this facility so I can't speak much about that part but I can tell you that I paid for him to be groomed with his nails and anal sacs done, and I know for a fact that his nails weren't touched and when I asked about it she said that she thought that they might not have had time to do the anal glands but she was sure the nails had been done. I showed her how long and sharp his nails were, and I told her there was no way that anyone had cut his nails. I was charged for the full grooming anyway. I really do like PetSuites Fern Creek, but I think the manager and staff have become substandard and complacent in their work. I will probably be looking for another place to board my dog.

They will take time to answer questions or talk through any concerns you may have with your pet, without making you feel like you're being rushed through the visit. They will also text or call as a follow up if there were any concerns at the appointment. For example, I had concerns about a spot on my dog's leg and they sent a couple follow up texts about a week apart to see how he was doing with the prescribed medication. Their waiting room is small and they remain busy so I also appreciate that they have you wait in your car, checking in via phone.

(They rescheduled 4 times saying overbooked they told me ...truth was they did not have a groomer). Groomer contacted me 45 minutes she bathed, dried and shaved my 60# dog like a sheep and told me she needs to go to vet immediately. I picked her up and went In yelling. "What the hell happened". They brought Maggie out her ear lobes bleeding saying she shook her head. I said NO What do I owe you. They said. Nothing since there is an issue and here is where you can take her. Since it was weekend I couldn't find any affordable. 245$ later. I walked out of the vet With steroids and antibiotics and directions to keep her ears (lobes) covered.
