My daughter has been at BCS Preschool for 2 years and we have been so thankful for our time here…read more The administration is responsive and welcoming. The fact that my kids regularly walk into the director's office to play with her toys and books while I visit with her says something: this is a place that welcomes parents and their feedback. I saw this firsthand lately as my 4 year old daughter struggled to fall asleep during nap time. While some of her classmates were transitioning to the non-nap room and I was worried this might be the only option left for our daughter, our family just wasn't ready to do it. I reached out to the staff, and the administration met with me and even took the time to bring in the classroom teacher to brainstorm what would work best for my DAUGHTER. They listened to my needs and helped come up with an incentive system that worked wonders (we are now SUCCESSFULLY sleeping at nap time!). I appreciated their willingness to see our needs and meet them in ways that I know took time and work for them. My daughter LOVES going to school. From the summer water days to the Jog a Thon to the 4th of July Bike Parade...there is always something fun happening and a bunch of parents on the sidelines to cheer and take pictures. I always feel welcomed in the classroom and I like the care the teachers put into the environment. It feels clean and safe, the teachers PLAY with the kids and teach them how to interact with each other, and it just looks like a lot of FUN. The staff cares about knowing my daughter and they appreciate what makes her unique. For a working mom like myself, I'm so thankful I get to leave my daughter in the hands of a staff who will LOVE her and help her grow.

I wouldn't recommend any child who is unique and different in their way to be sent to this school because without a DOUBT they will have extreme problems. The principals and staff members fail miserably to do their jobs correctly unless a physical altercation has occurred or a threat has to be taken seriously by law. Most of the teachers are awesome and deserve so much better and we all know who they are. The kids were the main problem, not being able to be yourself and people slandering your FAMILY in group chats, Throwing dirt on your name, Making the majority of kids not like you caused by their lying, and overall massive groups of people that are insecure within themselves deflecting on kids who don't know how to defend themselves, . The amount of Racial Clowning, Insecurity, and Lack of control of students is insane and disappointing. Many parents and children have problems with Smedberg but no one cannot get a clear solution because they only tell you bullto make you go away. The bathroom, Sucks, The Energy Sucks, and the office staff SUCK. Just don't send your kids there, it will save you your time and grief.

My daughter had a rough go at a different HS, and recently transferred here... mid way through her senior year. At the other school she experienced every issue you can think from a public school; physical abuse, bullying, emotional abuse and a lack of support from staff. When transferred here, she excelled! PGHS has been a godsend! Our family has been so grateful for the experience and her chance to finish high school in peace. The staff are friendly and responsive, the atmosphere is clean and respectful. We are overwhelmed with the difference 3 mikes makes.

Ms. Pohl, however, is irresponsible and has scheduled numerous meetings with my sister, only to not attend every single one. Additionally, the school must be lacking in funding because why is it that there are 2500+ students divided into two lunches, first lunch and second lunch, but second lunch barely has any food left to serve! My sisters wake up early to pack their own lunches when lunches at Pleasant Grove should be provided to students. They don't even have utensils, napkins, or trays to hold the lunches! Where is the school's PTA???

I understand teenagers make mistakes, but the way this school handles situations is extremely frustrating. I constantly receive calls, emails, TalkingPoints messages, and notifications for every little thing my daughter supposedly does -- not looking forward in class, she can't look down, she's put in a group for a group project but can't talk or use her computer for references, being late, being on her phone, etc. One teacher allows music, but then my daughter gets in trouble for being on her phone at the same time. The communication is inconsistent and overwhelming. What's even more frustrating is the attendance issues. I receive notifications about tardies and absences, and when I call to clarify or correct them, the office acts like it's a simple attendance correction. Later I find out there were even more absences or tardies I was never notified about in the first place. The school is very quick to point out every flaw or mistake students make, but never acknowledges anything positive they do or explains what THEY are doing to help students improve. I made sure to hear both sides from the teachers and from my daughter and honestly, the teachers never admitted what they may have done wrong. My daughter was more honest about the situation than the adults were. Once I started holding staff accountable and speaking up as a parent, attitudes suddenly changed and they started treating her differently. The administration has also been disappointing. I spoke directly with the principal looking for support, and instead of helping, I was told he had "more important priorities" and would call me back. He never did. That says a lot about how concerns from parents and students are handled. I could go on and on. This environment is not supportive. Students need accountability, but they also need support, fairness, and communication from adults who are supposed to help them succeed. Even though this is a newer school, I had much higher hopes for my daughter's freshman year experience. Unfortunately, it has been nothing but stressful and disappointing. Before enrolling your child into this school, I strongly recommend reading reviews and speaking with other parents first. Communication from staff feels more focused on punishment and constant criticism rather than support or helping students succeed. Parents deserve honesty, follow-through, and staff who are willing to work with families instead of making them feel ignored.

We unexpectedly moved to the area and had three weeks to look for a school before the year started. We started with another school which didn't work out at all. After we found SPLS, I wished so much that we had found them a lot sooner. First and foremost, the school fosters a faith-filled nurturing environment. You feel this in the core of the school community among the teachers, the office staff, and the administration. They genuinely care about our students and are so kind and wonderful. The academics are top-notch and are taught in a fun and engaging way. Our teachers are not only very credentialed but have amazing backgrounds in homeschooling and years of experience in many other school settings. My daughter came home with math homework once which looked like something I didn't see until I was older. I was prepared to relearn the lesson and teach it to her when she said, "Don't worry. My teacher taught me again when I didn't understand it the first time. I got it. It's actually easy!" This spoke volumes that my daughter would feel encouraged and confident even as learning gets challenging. The families here are diverse. It is a beautiful community where my child shares things about her culture and learns about others. During the summer, my daughter can't wait to start school as she misses her teachers and friends. Fortunately, the school has a summer enrichment program that runs through July. We feel blessed that our daughter was able to get into this school. I have toured 3 private schools and our local public school. Hands down I cannot even compare. They checked off all of my boxes and then some. There is no other school as special as this place has been for us. It makes me feel confident as a parent that my child is getting a solid foundation. Thank you SPLS for welcoming us with open arms.
