U.S. SHELL is not just a gas station, but a U-HAUL truck rental center that perfectly integrates vehicle fuel services and consumer necessities with moving vehicle services. I have rented U-HAUL trucks from Benny and his staff 3 times in the past 3 months, and it has been a distinct pleasure each time to work with Sarah, Dani, BJ and, of course, the man at the helm of the business, Benny. On each occasion, I have consistently been treated with respect, courtesy and genuine interest in providing me with the right moving vehicle, always at a favorable rental rate, exactly when I needed to pick it up, and with the kind of superb communication that often does not exist in businesses where rental vehicles are offered as an adjunct business. Every member of the team at this station is courteous, friendly, appreciative and highly competent. One member of the staff is so humble and deferential that it was obviously inappropriate for me to mention a name, but this person's performance is the principal reason I am posting this review. Every person who walks through the door is patiently, respectfully served by this highly efficient, engaged and committed staffer who is loyal to the owner beyond belief. Suffice it to say that, as a professional marketing/branding consultant for large corporations and small businesses alike, I only post 5 star reviews, since the firms which excel in their respective markets or market segments deserve to be recognized for exemplary service. U.S. SHELL, with its adjunct U-HAUL truck rental business, is the first and only station of its kind that I have felt compelled to review in my 49 years as a San Diegan. The security tape on the credit card readers at this gas station are routinely either missing, broken or sloppily re-taped. My wife's brand new credit card was used here once - and nowhere else - and two weeks later a copy of the card was used at a local WalMart. When I let the cashier know about the broken/missing tape and my wife's credit card, he became very upset and waived me out of the store, saying "It doesn't matter! It doesn't matter!" I then reported the problem to Shell corporate headquarters, and they said that because this was an independently owned gas station, they couldn't do anything. This started two years ago, and I just checked the pumps today and guess what...? The security tape has been removed again. So if you want your credit card number stolen, this is definitely the place to get gas. read more

This is regarding the service here. Not at all profession or customer oriented. I rented a U-Haul and return it with a full tank of gas, as it was when I picked it up, and they typed less than full on the computer. It did not match the inspection form, which indicted full. I will not be patronizing this business ever again and will be disputing the charge when it goes through. The pickup was fairly easy but the managers/owners (Indian guys) were training some poor white girl. Most likely to nickel and dime people like they do! read more

CAUTION----------The fact that the security tape in the Gas pumps are always broken or tampered with I stoped using cards at this location July of Last years and to be hold some one charged gas from this station 4 times until I notice it at the bank! So be carful and use cash instead. read more

Worst place I went to. So I went out to pay for the gas and handed the guy that works there a $20. I said 20 on 4 please. He put 25 on 4 and forced me to pay 5 more dollars. Worst gas station ever. read more

How this place is still in business I have no idea. poor service. Not sure how they interviewed they're workers but I'm sorry if you can barely county currency, read instructions, or work a machine/computer it may not be the job for u. Attempted to rent a uhaul and the guy types in the wrong information letter by letter. Then in the wrong area of the paperwork. Then says I'm good to go. I go out find the truck and then he comes running out saying I didn't finish the paperwork. Then why would u tell me I'm good to go if u have more paperwork for me to fill out? What should have taken 20 min at most took an hour. That's the last time I go to this gas station. I'm sure this isn't the only complaint they have received for similar reasons. read more

It used to be a good place up until now. Last year the employees were well trained and had excellent customer service skills. They were very friendly, fast and had an exceptional discipline regarding introduction and taking care of their customers. Unfortunately, the new employees don't have any discipline at all. Specially there is an old man working there and I went to get gas, he was busy staring at his computer and didn't respond to me despite alerting him. This gas station is close to home but I don't plan on going here again. They don't label broken pumps, so I put in my fuel points reward from Ralph's and try to pump the gas and it's impossible, leaving me with 15 cents worth of gas and effectively taking my fuel points. Then I go to a different pump and it says I have no fuel points. THEN I go to the manager and ask him to do something about it, and he acts like he doesn't understand me when really he's just totally unwilling to help. What he should have done is cancel the transaction from the last pump, so my fuel points would be returned but instead he muttered something so I could not understand and so I left very upset and without anyone even TRYING to fix my issue. Worst customer service I've ever encountered. How that guy became manager with his awful customer service skills is a mystery to me. read more

Ugh. Where do I begin. Picked up a uhaul trailer from these guys and definitely would not go back. I had reserved the trailer online and showed up at my reservation time with my vehicle ready to go. It took over an hour to get me back on the road. There was 1 person in front of me when I walked in. Every few seconds they would stop the process to help a gas customer, fill a propane tank, ring up a mini mart purchase, etc. There's a dedicated uhaul center a mile away on Troy St. with outstanding customer service. Next time I'll definitely be going there. read more
