What else is there to say about a military gas station? It's cheaper than all other gas stations and most times it's the same as or a few cents more than Costco. This one is located right off the 15 fwy Aero Dr. exit. Kinda miss living here in Murphy Canyon mostly because of the convenience to everything. On some days the lines can be pretty long but most times they move pretty quick. You have to show your I.D. at the window and let the cashier know which pump you're at. It always seems to me like they don't really look at it (exp. date) because I've held mine up from a distance and they just give me the ok to pump away. Because of the rona, there was a sign on the window tonight when I went saying you can pump 24/7 but they are only checking I.D.s from 0900-1700. Stopped here for gasoline with my brother-in-law--he has a military ID. This NEX is conveniently located at the eastern end of Aero Drive, off I-15. Regular gasoline was $4.21 per gallon, which is lower than today's average price of $4.70 in San Diego but higher than $4.05 at Costco. The pumps are self-service. This is a tiny Nex, newly remodeled. Like all Nexs, they validate you have an ID. They have a gas station here, barber shop, bathrooms and are next to an atm and fast food. Cashiers are always friendly, they carry the basics, can food, junk food, minimal fresh food, beverages including booze, baby supplies, toiletries and some otc medications and more. We love that it's convenient and of course tax free. There is an ice machine outside. read more

GAS STATION REVIEW: Just reviewing the gas station. You have to show your military ID to the cashier at the window and let them know which pump number. Prices are much lower than the gas stations near by. I have found at times Costco is a few cents cheaper. But it's all about convenience this is much closer than Costco. Never had any issues with lines here, it moves pretty quick if there are any lines. Currently the price here for regular was $3.50 compared to the Mobil $3.89! This Exchange is located smack dab in the middle of military housing. If you are in the Mission Valley area, it would be worth the trip to go up the hill to this location for fuel. The gas prices here are 10 to 20 cents cheaper than any place down in Mission Valley, most especially the Hotel Circle area. You "DO NOT" need a DOD sticker on your vehicle to drive to this location. If you have your valid military ID, you're good to go. Top that off with an Exchange that is something in between a larger main exchange and the smaller mini-mart and you have the reasons needed to get your gas, food, wine, beer, and so much more at this location. If you are staying in a hotel down in Mission Valley, you can drive up here and stock up on what you need "AT A MUCH LOWER COST" then "ANY" place down and around your hotel. Benefits.... okay let's talk about that. -The employees here never actually asked to see my ID. A sign is posted by the register... but not enforced. The guy in front of me was never checked. -You must have the flyer/website posted price open to the page in order to get the price match. Now, I get the flyer requirement but don't try to tell me you guys don't price match... just because you're too lazy to check the price, or worse yet, you think tax free is enough of a benefit so you won't honor it. It's our benefit. If patrons don't complain then we lost the benefit. I price compare since I'm on a fixed budget. tax free shopping is nice... but the prices are typically higher if you're not paying attention you lose out on the savings. Thats why all exchanges state-side have price matching. Use that benefit! I went shopping around noon... the gas station was backed up with a line when I parked. The barbershop had one barber with four people waiting for haircuts. The check out line was quick and the employees helped with questions. Bonus... NFCU has an ATM near the parking lot. read more

The only downside to this NEX gas station is that sometimes the credit card readers on some pumps don't work & that the tire air pump doesn't work. (It also reads low, so use your own pressure gauge.) There's apparently a barbershop inside the mini NEX , but I've never been inside. read more

The inside is full of overpriced stuff as well as a redbox (originally why we came here). The bathrooms were clean and so was the store. The gas was cheaper than normal (as is all military gas stations) just don't forget your ID. I sat in the car watching everyone have to walk to the window to flash their ID. My husband was in uniform at the time and didn't get asked for his, I guess they assume someone wouldn't go that far just to save 5¢ (LOL). If we were in the area again yeah I'd stop by. Terrible hours. Who opens at 9AM after everyone has gone to work that needs to pick stuff up and closes at 7PM (6PM on Sundays) when most people are out to grab stuff. Also they say the gas station is for "authorized patrons only" but allow anyone to get gas there without checking I.D.s like every other off base NEX gas stations I've been to. Very nice people work there though. Customer service is A+. read more

This particular Navy Exchange is located in military housing area of Tierrasanta. Cheaper gasoline prices compared to the other gas stations. Before you begin pumping, you must show military identification to the clerk at the window or else they won't activate the gas pump for you. A DOD sticker on your car is not really necessary. The wait time can be long and you must wait in line instead of swinging your vehicle around. The NEX itself is the same as the other exchanges on base. It's big, but not too big. Large enough to get your basic items here. They also have your basic uniform items such as ESWS pins and patches, collar devices, and other stuff. There' also a barber shop here but I usually go to civilian barber shops because they give better haircuts for black people like myself. Those Asians always mess my head up! read more

Viewing the line here makes you think there is suddenly a shortage of gas and all mayhem is about to break out. In reality it's just everyone in line because the gas is about 5-10 cents cheaper than everywhere else. Many times I've passed and just spent the extra 50 cents to not wait 10 minutes for gas. The wait is actually not the problem, it's the attitude of everyone else around as they get angrier and angrier because the guy in front of them is taking too long. The mini-mart part is actually pretty nice. They have almost every necessity and it's much closer to my house than any grocery store or the Walmart. Yes this gas station is only for military but what I like about it is that the store in the gas station is a full on mini NEX I don't have to drive all the way to base just to pick up a few small items and it's tax free!!! The reason I give it 3 stars is the wait time in the gas station and because if the guy in front of you is still pumping gas and you're done you have to wait till they ate done before you can leave. So if you're in a rush find another station, and they close at 2100 every day. read more

The barber shop is terrible. One person (the one on the right) is the only one who can cut hair, however she is always involved in conversations with people or on her phone. The oriental lady who is there in the afternoon really destroys hair. There should be some kind of standard before they hire people. I don't mind the chatting etc. but it should not take 20 minutes to get a hair cut. Heck in camp Lejeune they can do it in four minutes and it looks awesome, all the while chatting about a tv show with the other barbers. For instance, I went today and there was only one person getting their hair cut and was almost done. After 15 minutes, I left. They still had not even finished. read more

I mainly come here for the autoport. Which can be a pain a times, due to the "no cutting" policy. I've only been inside the NEX a handful of times. It's pretty small, hence the word "mini," But a cheaper and easier alternative for picking up a couple of snacks before a road trip. read more

The actual Exchange part is pretty good for the most part. The two stars is solely for the barbershop. I normally would say you would get what you pay for but I can't even say that. You pay $8.50 and you get a three dollar haircut maybe. With a line of at least eight military members waiting to get their haircuts to barbers are working the chairs. The Filipino lady continually leaves the shop leaving only Tuffy to see clients. However she is too busy making small talk with a civilian. Horrible. Go down the street to any other civilian ran haircut place. You will get better and timelier service better customer care and a better quality haircut. Avoid the barber. read more

My husband has been here a few times and always comes out looking sharp. Today he took our 7 year old here for first time and he looked great! I love that there is a NEX so close to home! I could walk if needed. It is right there if I ever forgot something at the store. They have a good assortment of products, although you may only find one brand of a certain item. Depending on the item, it could be pricy, but there is no sale's tax! I also love that there is the auto port attached, but do avoid on paydays! FYI; the pumps STRETCH! So you can pump gas from any lane. Conveniently located next to military housing. Products are way overpriced, which is expected at all mini nexs.Though they do price match with ads from other stores. Staff is very friendly. Though some don't pay attention, and may over charge you. Happened to me several times. You gotta pay attention especially when buying produce or anything on sale. Lines can be very long and move slowly during some times. But they do have gas! Those lines can move slowly too. This gas station is really close to my house, so I use it for almost every fill up if I'm not on base. I appreciate the ID check. I personally have noticed that they DO check because the first time I went here they wouldn't turn on my pump until I came up to the window, so at least there is some control. I also go to the Nex inside for dog food when I can't make it all the way to the commissary. It's not as cheap as the commissary, but at least I don't pay tax. I have noticed they are making a better effort to stock non-gas station foods (not everyone lives off of Doritos and Mountain Dew) like sandwiches, organic/slightly more natural snacks, etc. so that is nice. read more

Good place to get smokes and gas. The prices are well above out in town for everything else, even being tax free. The only upside is people watching. Being that it is military families from all over the country, it makes for a strange assortment of people. It ranges from hoochied out mom's ignoring their kids while buying condoms and winstons to skinny guys wearing tshirts with wolves and indians on it trying to control the kids while the 300 lbs wife is buying diapers and coors light on credit. Gas is cheaper here however the pumps are sometimes finicky. While the NEX staff is typically great I have to say that I was a bit put off the other day while filling up my car. Paid cash to the cashier, showed my ID and went to pump. Apparently the fact that I had paid wasn't registering or the pump wasn't turned on. I stood there waiting..with a long line behind me. Pump's screen just said "Please Wait". I waited for a few and then walked over to the cashier to let her know that I was unable to pump, explained the "wait" both notification. The cashier rudely put a finger up as to say "wait" as she talked to a co-worker about weekend plans. Ooook. After a moment she turned to me and said "ok, it's on and should be good to go." Walked back over to the pump only to see the "Please wait" notification still on the screen. I stood there for a minute and didn't touch the screen, actual pump or anything. This was getting ridiculous. I stepped behind my car, looked at the cashier and put my arms up like "um..still not working". She then proceeded to get on the loud speaker and scold me loudly by yelling, "Ma'am LEAVE THE PUMP ALONE! Do not touch THE PUMP!!!!!" Everyone looked in my general direction and I felt awkward. Finally, after another minute or two it let me select which level of fuel I wanted and let me pump my gas..but the whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth. I've been pumping gas there for years now and never had that happen. I wasn't and hadn't touched the pump when the cashier chose to yell at me over the speaker. whoooop so close to mission valley!!!

We go to this nex a good 3 to 4 times a week. Getting gas in 2 cars or getting milk for our 3 kids. The chick at the pump is so rude. she run after my van at night and I almost hit her. I when in and told them. I was told I would have a phone call bu 9 am the next morning but nothing. Every time I'm getting gas and she is working she will come out and check my pump. We go there tonight to get gas in my van with all 3 of my kids. I go up and pay cash and tell her what pump # go back to my van and we wait and wait and wait. Then after 10 mins she calls us back up there my husband go and she tells him she needs ID ( that I let her see when I paid cash). So I go back up there and tell her I give her cash and she said where (really??) Everyone getting gas tells me we heard you tell her what pump. I tell her I'm going to complained again. She laugh at us why Because the manager is sitting right there not doing her job (talk). I when to complain and everyone that works there will tell you she gets complained on a lot. ( I was told that 3 times ones being tonight) The manager comes up and making it seem like its all me I did everything wrong she was in the right (how?).. I told them I'm will be call someone above them and left.. I got in the van and my husband told me she refuses to give him the receipt. I have called and left 4 voice mails and emailed them.
