Sorry for the delay since the last review I wrote, but I finally had a chance to write a review…read moreupdate of this store, with an experience from very early this month (receipted experience on 7-2-24). I came into this store on a whim as I walked from Dunkin' to this location (originally hoping to stop at Hannaford nearby instead). Although I still saw the gas pumps out front, my first need was solved in your selection of Ham submarine sandwiches (in the deli case nearest the registers) - something not all Stewarts Shops have - and a bottle of Poland Spring water to drink (23.7 oz sports top) on my walk back later that day (only to spot my ride meeting me near the former location of the Bagel Place/car shop not very far from your shop). I had ideas that day to pick up a bottle of Pure Leaf Tea&Lemonade but decided it wasn't something I needed and put that item back. But during this experience, I noticed a trickle of folks coming in and out. Still, very few stayed in for very long, and by the end of my quick visit for a quick stop for a few items (even without my bags), I felt out of place and was hoping for more questions about my visit. I haven't been coming in many times now, because my car is not working and I'm in a catch-22, and walking is just too far at about 2 miles on foot.

But I was also budgeting to a point where I was only stricken with an EBT card (food stamp/SNAP card). I craved sandwiches with meat (ham and cheese are my faves), but most of these sandwiches EBT won't pay for (they don't take them for being "prepackaged") and when I found that you had sandwiches, I was almost hooked - but that's when I saw the price. I was carrying only about $6 in cash and when I spotted even the cheapest sandwich at close to $7, I had to turn away. (Their bagels (without peanut butter or similar) were there, but those were a lot less than what I'd get for cheaper at your competitor, so had to forego those completely.) However, this place also has some variations of stuff I couldn't get at your competitor. I found bags of cookies (chewy chocolate chips of the brand name) on your shelves and stuff I couldn't find elsewhere - some more prominently displayed than others. However, there were things that even the competitor had that I had to get today because I'm getting tired of getting the same stuff there continuously and had to be spontaneous. However, the rest of the transaction was okay. I was the only customer in the store for most of my transaction, and the employee who checked me out was rather nice. He allowed me to place my goods on the counter and allowed me to check out the sandwich corner. He waited until I got back to pay before he started ringing me up - and something I valued: patience. This purchase was also my first purchase where I entered my Mobil Rewards number, something I started in 2021 and hadn't used yet. I was surprised that I even remembered I had one, but he never asked if I was a member. Sorry, if my presence bothered you. This place no longer is open 24-7, based on other factors, but this place surely makes itself known at the corner of Routes 9 (US) and 199 (NY). I know several people who would rather pick up goods here and without a doubt have no trouble. It's a fact that this lot is always full, but when coming from a mile north and no car, I had to walk it today. However, I can only come in every so often.

The facility is well-maintained; with the usual selection of food and sundries one expects to find in an establishment such as this. The staff person was friendly and attentive. If one needs a fill-up, pitstop and/or snack/sundries for their travels; this location is a solid option.

Best Stewart's Shop in New York…read more Fully stacked. Easy horseshoe-like cashier counter (with about 3 Points Of Sale). A few tables by the window. This staff is so diligent, polite, easy-going and happy. If they are not helping customers; they cook up the snazziest pizzas and wrap up cool-cat breakfast/lunch sandwiches. This Stewart's staff'll knock your socks off. All the ice cream flavors, smokes, cigars, beers, milk, candy, food, soup, cleaning supplies, sodas, chips and lottery are here. Never sold out. Never dirty. Always the best, top-notch staff and purveyors. A real pleasant, small town pit-stop. Come speak with the Good Old Boys and talk about old cars! Review: 5+

Although I came in and felt like today was going to be an okay day and proceeded to the checkout stand for ice cream and found myself arriving first before any other guests came in, I had to stand around waiting for an employee who was filling the hot tray nearby. He proceeded to take my order, but never wrung it up on the register and walked away when I told him what I wanted. I thought he heard me and would be right back. But he wasn't. Other guests came in and wanted bags of ice. The next employee came in and started ringing up these guests' orders and never told me to step aside. "I got here first", I even exclaimed; she wouldn't budge as I rudely stepped aside in a snit. I almost accidentally paid for someone else's order (which I know I wouldn't have been able to do because my account wasn't funded for so much at $20 total), and the employee didn't have the care to tell me that she'd take my order next - "Rude", I thought, and almost left. When it came to actually fulfilling my order after the customer was rung up and taken out to the ice area, when the employee made my shake, she barely filled it to the line where even the supervisor said they'd fill it to when I know at other times these shakes were filled a lot more. (If she didn't take me, I was determined to walk out.) The supervisor got nasty, but I tried to keep my composure just to keep my self-image sort of positive, backing down from impoliteness from the employees and staff of the venue. I know I'll probably still have to go back, but I'm really nervous about this place now. How could they treat me, a more routine customer, this way, having stepped away from routine visits for constant weather issues, like this? Maybe next time they'll treat me better, and fill it to the line (not just under it by about a quarter-cup's worth of ice cream). I feel cheated on.

Of all the gas stations in or near Red Hook, I actually had the chance to try out this station…read moretoday, and although much like all the other gas stations in Dutchess being higher priced (compared to Ulster Co.) when I discovered that this place was nearly 6 cents difference per gallon cheaper than the Shell on Rte 9G nearby and was on my route to get my brother at work near the county border, I thought "What the heck?...Can't hurt to try it!" I got out of my car after a short delay (due to unintentional malfunction of my car's door locks) and pulled up to discover at first that this station has slightly older pumps....nothing too- historical though. They took my GasBuddy discount card at the pump and within a few seconds I was off n' runnin'. I didn't even have to enter my odometer reading here (or get around that prompt by entering a particular two digit code), which made me feel surprised. The trigger didn't work too well. I'm pretty good at getting gas exactly where I want it. But here was different. I'd squeeze and due to over squeezing by the pumps machine issues, would offset the amount I would have wanted to place in my tank at a normal gas station elsewhere and cause me to miss the exact place I was expecting to pump till. I should have expected that when the pump shut itself off at 25.77 to expect this here. If I wouldn't have been on the GasBuddy card, and if it wasn't even me, that caused disaster for over spending and could have caused others disaster! I mean, I pushed it to 26.02 but was planning on only pumping 26.00 after the machine clicked at 25.99 seconds before. Maybe if they'd stop affiliating themselves with the Deli so much, get off their tush and check their pumps out for malfunctioning parts every few months, I'd be using them more. However, not one time today, did I ever notice any employee come out to check. I should've expected that prior to arriving thanks to a car pulling out of here prior to my arrival and another customer walking out saying something but couldn't discern what but sounded as if she aimed it at me!
