Forget the fact that gas here is about a dollar more per gallon than anywhere else in the city... I'm the dummy who didn't fill up earlier and now had no choice. But what a bizarre experience at 12:41 in the afternoon. There's a store full of snacks and drinks--which I'd love to grab because I'm hungry--but the door is locked. Fine. I walk up to the cashier window where there's a guy inside by himself, masked up behind bulletproof glass. Whatever, not judging... but he can't hear me through the glass, and I definitely can't hear him with the mask/glass combo. I ask for water. He brings out a Dasani (sorry, it's gross water and you can't convince me otherwise). I ask if he has anything else, and he tells me to "look through the window and pick what I want." The thing is--the glass outside is mirrored. You literally cannot see in. And what little I can see looks like piles of random products stacked haphazardly. (Stale? Probably. Who's buying snacks they can barely see through mirrored glass?) So, I ask if he has Crystal Geyser, and--pleasant surprise--he says yes. He even seemed pleasantly surprised himself, so I guess that makes two of us. Time to pay. I can't leave my card open for the fill-up, which is fine. I estimate a full tank will cost me about $130 (thanks, beastie) and decide to put in $50 to get me through the next day or two. I pull out Apple Pay... but nope. No card reader to slide over. No contactless option. Instead, I have to unlock my phone, hand it over (yes, my unlocked iPhone) so he can take it inside and run the payment. He disappears around the corner with it--just for a few seconds--but still. Handing over your unlocked phone to a stranger whose face you can't even see? Not exactly a warm, fuzzy feeling. Tip: Downtown San Francisco has very few gas stations, therefore if your driving fill up before you go. This Shell is the most convenient gas station near the freeway and the entrance to the Bay Bridge. You can't fault them for having high prices. Living in the Bay Area I know better not to go into the City, low on gasoline, but I was pressed for time for a meeting. After, I had to get gas at Shell on Bryant St. in SOMA. The prices are high. The positives are the location, fast digital pumps, advanced credit card readers, and absence of apocalyptic panhandling zombies hanging out. It is almost a given that when you stop for gas in San Francisco city, as soon as you get your wallet out, feeling vulnerable a zombie panhandler appears. This time I did not get it from loitering panhandlers but as soon as I hung up the pump nozzle a beat up Honda pulls in with 3 sketch dudes behind me. the driver gets out, instead of walking to his pump or the cashier window he comes toward me. Worst experience of my life, 9/13 8:20 AM. I have the clerk $25 he didnt say a word and just waved me to pump my gas. It stops at $18??? I go back and told him I gave him $25 he looks at me like I'm a scammer and low life, and waves me off while he sloppy eats his food. I tried again to tell him but he was so rude and more focused on his food. I understand how cash registers work soI asked him to check the register, as no one else was here. On 3-12-22 at 6:35pm my wife asked the clerk to let my 12 year old daughter use the restroom because she had to go really bad. He literally pointed at the pumps where I was parked and ORDERED her to put gas first before he would let her use the restroom. This place is a joke! I was low on gasand threw in the remaining cash on me ($6) to get me to a less busy area. My tank is still on empty after leaving and the distance to empty did not budge. The gas meter showed that I was pumping, but just collected my money. Had to stop at this gas station or might not have had enough gas to get across the Bay Bridge eastward. Pump would not take a debit card and I was instructed to see the cashier. You can barley see anyone at the cashier window due to dark tinting on window, and she kept disappearing into another room. Had to pay a set amount up front but when returned to the car it was already pumping premium gas. Would not let me stop the transaction. Went back to cashier to stop the transaction who said that I must have selected the premium and she would not halt the pump. I DID NOT SELECT PREMIUM and never do ever. Paid $50 for 8 gallons! Literally the worst. Today the pump broke and stuck gushing out fuel when I only wanted a few gallons. When I told the clerk, he refused help. I can back a second time since I couldn't find an emergency shut off switch, and when he came out and finally understood what was wrong, he circled back inside slowly to finally help me out. Home of the most expensive gas in SF. A good ten cents or more per gallon than the Shell station a block and a half away on Third Street. It makes for an amazing study in price differences based on location. The offramp across the street is the last one in SF before you hit the Bay Bridge. My guess would be that a large amount of their clientele is people heading across the Bay Bridge but are almost out of gas. A more sinister explanation is that some folks are scared to drive the streets of West Oakland looking for a station. That's enough to make up for the people who know the neighborhood avoiding this station like the plague. read more

There are other places you can get your gas for cheap without dealing with a rude dude who has a stick shoved up places that don't shine. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE - stopped by to get gas & use the bathroom, the clerk inside was so rude. I asked where the bathroom was and he pointed to the corner. I went over there and the door had no doorknob, I tried to open it and could not. I then went back over to him and said I couldn't open the door, it didn't have a doorknob. He just looked at me and kept mopping the floor and said the door was open. I repeated it and he just kept saying it's open. I went to this station solely to get enough gas to get to the east bay and fill up at a pump that sold gas at $ .70 cheaper. I got the receipt for exactly $4.50, then filled up in the East Bay, then went to get groceries. My card was denied even though I knew I had enough money. On speaking to the bank this station charged me $125.00 for one gallon of gas and when I called the gas station they told me someone else must have piggybacked on my card and there was nothing they could or would do. There was no $4.50 charge so I know this is the service station's fault. DO NOT USE THEM!!!!
