We started the backyard journey by getting 15 bids from landscape construction companies. We had done plenty of home remodels and rebuilds, but never embarked on a backyard landscape project. Bon Terra impressed us immediately, as they were the only company that was up front with design ideas, costs, and time. Johnny was able to design a backyard that fit our aesthetic, and came up with many ideas we never thought of. He was able to make changes as needed, and was always open to work with our own ideas. We found Isaac and his construction crew to be personable, hard working, and punctual. They work four days per week, Tuesday through Friday, which worked great for us. We were appreciative that Isaac was able to roll with the punches when we had some unplanned issues pop up. We could get stressed out or impatient about the "snafus," but Isaac never did. Thank you! We got three estimates and Roberto's estimate was the most reasonable and he was able to do the job in the short timeframe I needed. The team showed up as promised and did a great job! The wall was built in one day and would have been finished in one day if the weather was better. In South San Francisco the weather was very damp and cold due to heavy fog so the concrete did not dry as fast as it could have. They returned the next day to finish off the job. We are very happy with the results. Even better it was finished in time for our painting crew to include the new wall in the ongoing project to paint the exterior of our house. We solicited bids from multiple contractors, ranging from our longtime general contractor (who "had a guy who does pavers") to other paver specialists. Here's why we went with System Pavers and why we can recommend them to other homeowners: --Communication and responsiveness: From the start, our sales consultant, Kelly Casper, was easy to work with. He offered helpful suggestions, explained their process clearly, and responded promptly (sometimes immediately) to any question via text or email. That same level of clear communication and responsiveness carried through with our project manager, Oscar Maciel, who is a consummate professional. --Knowledge and skill: Our project wasn't simple and we had a lot of decisions to make and challenges to solve during the process. For example, our two driveways are at slightly different levels, which required careful consideration with leveling and drainage. We also deliberated about whether we wanted a single or double border. I'm a very hands-on client and asked lots of questions. TLDR: Find another landscaping crew…read more We used them for landscaping. The process started great. They communicated well and the team was friendly. However, execution was lacking. They planted some things that died quickly (that is fine, that happens) and others that were in shaded areas that require more light than they get; essentially not growing in months (that should not have happened). Additionally, they forgot some plants we had discussed and then required multiple follow-ups on my end to replace some that died. Finally, and this is what really made me give them a one star review, they recommended a new gravel for our stairs with an adhesive to keep it together. That adhesive failed. They changed their story multiple times on the cause of the issue depending on who on their team I talked to; field crew said it was them, owner said it was on the supplier...In the end, it was on me to pay them for a more powerful adhesive product and for another day of labor for a team to come back out to complete the job properly. Well, guess what, that adhesive is coming apart again after limited use. In all, poor choice of some plants / locations and subpar engineering work and terrible accountability. If you like to pay for other people's mistakes, by all means, use them.
