Such a gem in South County. Love the cheeseboard offerings, the perfect variety and ratio of fruit, crackers, cheese, and meats! Also.. get the Meredith Dairy marinated sheep & goat feta. This vineyard is absolutely stunning!! I have been twice so far, once to use that spa amenities like the pool and a hot yoga class and then afterwards we headed over to the tasting room. The second time I've been we did the two different wine flights and one of their charcuterie boards, and everything was amazing.The staff are very nice and knowledgeable. The last time we were there a wedding was also going on and it was stunning the area they have for the ceremony and the area for the reception are both gorgeous.i can't wait to go back! read more

This is a lovely estate vineyard, hotel and spa where one can go to chill and relax. I booked a couple of nights here to check out this area of Rhode Island. The hotel is Close to the shore and some quaint and historic towns for shopping so there was plenty to do. Also there are a couple of breweries, several seafood restaurants and night clubs to visit. Staff were nice and helpful at the venue but the one thing lacking here is that there was no way to speak with someone before booking. I left both a voicemail message and sent an email with my questions but never received a call back or reply to my email otherwise everything was perfect. read more

A true escape in southern Rhode Island! Shepherds Run feels like a gorgeous European escape! I don't want this secret getting out because it's such an amazing spot but I couldn't not give a review! We partnered with Emily on creating such a unique bachelorette stop and she went above and beyond! She created a custom wine pairing for us and created the most beautiful table scape for us to enjoy our wine after a tour of the vineyard and winemaking space! This is an absolutely stunning venue for a wedding or just an afternoon escape! The wines are rich, deep and flavorful! Not overly sweet or fruity! This is a one of my favorite vineyards to relax at year round... however, did you know they have a spa, gym, and workout classes you can drop in and do even if you are not staying there? I stumbled across something about aqua classes there, so of course I checked it out. I took a Tuesday Aqua Flow with Jennifer and it was a blast! She was full of energy, jokes, advice about form, and she knew almost everyone's name. Jennifer also gave instructions on how to make the workout harder or easier based on your level of comfort. There were probably about 30 people there. Some people seemed like regulars to the class and everyone was very nice to me...helping me out for my first time. Would give Shepherds Run 100/5 stars if I could! I got married at the beautiful Shepherds Run this past April, and everything was absolutely incredible. My husband and I first toured Shepherds Run in May of 2024 and it has quickly became one of our favorite places for a day trip or a night away. Jackie did our venue tour, and she was so knowledgable and helpful throughout the entire process up until the big day. She made time the day before my wedding and day of the wedding to make sure everything was running smoothly for me, and that everything in my room was perfect for getting ready with my bridal party. We have visited time and time again and all of the Shepherds Run staff have been so wonderful, friendly and accommodating. Not only did we have our wedding at Shepherds run, but we also chose to have our rehearsal dinner in the wine hall. The space is gorgeous and intimate for a small event, and the food was to die for! The service was also incredible, they were available throughout the whole event to make sure everyone was having a great experience and that their wine glasses were full. Our guests at both our wedding and rehearsal had nothing but compliments about their experience! We have stayed a handful of times in both the south wing and manor rooms, and both are clean and super comfortable! The breakfast is also great! After our wedding night we also used the mind & body spa for some relaxation. The massage was absolutely amazing, and the hot tub was relaxing and very clean. The rooms and spa may be on the pricier side from your average hotel, but you get what you pay for! Of course I have to mention that the wine is great (rosé especially!) and the charcuterie/snacks are my favorite when visiting the run! I truly cannot thank the Shepherds Run staff enough for how friendly and accommodating they have been. They do 3 weddings a day here, open to the public, spa & pool that the public use with a reservation, newly planted vineyard with wine tasting (coming soon?), a bar with light tappas, communal dinners from time to time. Lots of revenue streams coexisting at the same time. If you have your wedding here, you need to know that you will not have the place to yourself. Make sure you lock your rooms because the public wanders about. ROOMS: The rooms are newly renovated. They are attractive. We were told that room service is not provided unless you ask for something specific. If you're here on vacation going out and about during the day, that's probably not an issue. If you're here as a wedding party getting ready on site you might want to consider asking for more towels and trash being emptied ahead of time. No fridges in the room. LOCATION: The property is attractive and the layout is quirky what with all the roles it has played in its history and the plans for the future. Walled garden is gorgeous. When there is a wedding inside or outside in the tent, there is a lot of noise that travels to guest rooms so don't plan on going to bed before 10:30pm. Ear plugs and sound machine help. SERVICE: The concensus of people I talked to in my group, people I know who have had used the venue in the past, and those from the public, is that customer service would be improved if management had a more friendly hospitality-first approach. Don't get me wrong, things get done but the vibe is not friendly and approachable. The public facing management came across as very serious, intense and off putting. Again, this was voiced by many people. The worker bees do a good job but there is not a sense of gracious hospitality from public facing upper management. This culture trickles down to the staff. ---- Nice decor, newly renovated. No elevators. Lots of walking to get around. There are two disjointed wings so if you are in a group, you may be split up. Meeting in downstairs rooms with your group means sitting among the public. Safety Open to the public so don't leave your room or belongings as you would in any public hotel. Walkability You can walk to DMV and Judicial Building Complex and the private catholic school. Food & drinks There is a bar with small menu of tappas. The breakfast is modest but fabulous. Noteworthy details If you are staying overnight, you have to leave to get food which you can bring back on site but you cannot have it delivered to the front door. Have it delivered to adjacent judicial complex/ DMV to save time. When you drive in, you see the parking lot first. It may be confusing where to go to check in or where to drop off your belongings. The answer depends of which wing you are in. If you are in the wing near the tent and pool then park in the first lot you see. If you are in the wing of the manor, then continue past the parking lot to the main brick manor, into the circle driveway to drop off your stuff they go park, come back for your stuff to check in and then carry it upstairs (no elevators). No trolly to help bring stuff from parking lot. There is no clear place to check in like a front desk. You do that at the bar or online. This is adjacent to the water but the water is not part of the view due to trees in between. read more

I'm surprised by the reviews mentioning poor customer service. We were very impressed by all the staff there. Received a call from concierge before we even arrived asking if we needed anything! We did come during winter with no weddings so maybe that made a difference. A couple things to note - their wine tasting is really just a reservation for seating and you order from a menu which includes glasses or bottles of wine, wine flights and some food. We were expecting something else. Ordered a flight to share and some nibbles which were delicious. The server was extremely nice as was another man who stopped to chat with us in the hallway about the grounds. The other thing to note is the hot tub and pool closes at 4 pm in the winter and you can't usually check in until 4. That could have been a big bummer for us except when we called they said we could check in early so it all worked out. Rooms were comfortable, shower and soap/shampoos were very nice too. read more

A few days ago, we attended a wedding at Sheperd's Run. It was our first time and we were very pleased with the grounds, building facilities and the catering company they used. Shepherd's Run is able to accommodate gatherings up to 300 people with an all-inclusive special occasion package. From intimate parties to large scale weddings and celebrations, Shepherd's Run has several options of indoor and outdoor event spaces. Their signature sailcloth wedding tent, with its cherry wood poles, and 25' peaked canvas structure, is situated at the rear of the manor on the lower lawn overlooking the Narrow River and their East Vineyard. It was a beautiful large tent, roomy for the entire event, which had about 175 guests. We all sat comfortably in chairs lined up against long tables, decorated beautifully with nice china, candles and flowers. The wedding ceremonies can be held in the indoor Event Hall or the Beatrix Farrand designed walled garden. The thirty-six acre estate boasts numerous additional spaces for gatherings including the Winemaker's Room, Wine Hall, Manor Terrace, and Rush Sturges Study. Established in 1933, Shepherd's Run was once the summer residence of Rush Sturges and Elizabeth Hazard Sturges. The original manor was designed in the Norman Romanesque style by Thomas Pym Cope and the gardens were designed by famed landscape architect Beatrix Farrand. Situated within the historic manor house, Shepherd's Run has 10 guest rooms available for nightly rental. In addition, these rooms can be reserved along with any of the event spaces for guests of the event that would like to sojourn at the manor before or after the event. I attended a wedding on October 26, 2024 and the ambiance was perfect, the food, which was served hot and delicious, was catered by Blackstone Caterers and their servers were kind and attentive!! My husband and I stayed in one of the rooms in the South Wing; it was modern, clean and spacious. Bedding was super comfy!! The coffee and breakfast items offered til 10:30 am for hotel guests mirrored what you would see in a European cafe. We were treated to charcuterie and wine tasting for Christmas by our son. We were a party of 5 and had a wonderful time. Wine and food were very good, we tried all flights (red, white & chocolate paired). We recommend and would come back! The only negative was that the server did not clear our plates until we were leaving, and by the time she came back, we did not have time to order a full glass as there was a large party coming in and we were at a big table. Just got to check out the winery that is known as Shepherd's Run and it was a beautiful event space. We set up for their summer market alongside other vendors and the grounds are beautiful for such a small place. It all looks much bigger online, but it was a former convent a bunch of years back. Its been renovated and rejuvinated into a winery/wedding event place/boutique hotel. Their garden area is lovely for a girls day with wine tasting and charcuterie. Prices are a bit high but its for the ambiance and well, its expected for the area. That being said, the Rose is delicios and rings up at $26- its well worth it. Didnt get a chance to sample food but they did sell out so that means it must have been good. I also hear the wine is imported and not their own grapes but who cares- its a nice spot to stop and chill before heading off to do some South County things. read more

This is an intimate getaway experience. My wife and I spent the week here. Amazing staff, and gorgeous interior. The combination of historic details and modern amenities is perfect. We spent all day poolside, the hot tub is relaxing.Our room was spectacular, we loved the spacious shower and decadent bed. The staff are super friendly, and the Spa looks beautiful. The breakfast is minimal but enough coffee yogurt and breads to satisfy our needs. We will recommend this place to everyone and hopefully be back soon! read more

It was a beautiful serene atmosphere, the building and decor beautiful and comfortable. The Inn/Winery was just beautiful. The whole atmosphere from the Inn itself, our room to the Spa and Yoga room and gym room all serene and welcoming. It was so peaceful. The grounds are so pretty with the young vineyards part of the front and back yards. The room was very clean, pretty and comfortable. Complimentary glass of wine each day very nice. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was nice. Continental style, fresh delicious pastries, muffins, chef made blueberry french toast casserole, bagels and cream cheese. Fresh juices regular coffee and teas and decaf upon request. Beautiful different seating rooms to pick and enjoy while eating or drinking you wine. They have an outdoor pool and hot tub year round. We would have liked to use the outdoor hot tub. We were only there one night and had dinner reservations so it was getting dark when we returned. Myself and 6 other women made a reservation here, 2 months in advance. We were celebrating a bachelorette, and were so excited for our tasting! However, things quickly went sour. We arrived promptly at our reservation time, only to be greeted by a large wedding. We finally figured out how to enter the rest of the tasting room, which to our surprise seemed empty. We told them our name, and the host seemed surprised to see us there, even though our name was on the list. We were then taken outside, and brought to a table with 4 seats. Mind you, there are 7 of us. When we asked to either get more chairs or be seated somewhere else, we were given extreme attitude. Inappropriate to begin with, but even more so knowing we made a reservation. We were then sat by another server inside, in a space away from everything and everyone. But, right next to the wedding taking place. And by right next to, I mean that the bride WALKED next to our table. Fun for us, but seemed super rude to the bride and her family trying to celebrate their day. When it came to the wine, I thoroughly enjoyed mine! Except, it wasn't from Shepherd's Run. Actually, most of, if not all of the wines are from other wineries. Definitely a disappointment. Overall, our experience was truly one to remember (and not in a good way). I work in hospitality, and I have never seen so many employees at a winery needing customer service training. The huffing and puffing and eye rolling to simply get us seated, was a damper to our final evening in Rhode Island. While the venue is absolutely stunning, I would not recommend this winery. read more

Total Rip-Off This is NOT a hotel, although it is certainly priced like one. It is a wedding venue with some rooms attached. The only interaction we had with any hotel staff was a text message with our room number and the code to unlock the door. There is no reception and no help with luggage. We had to wander through the place to find the block of rooms which is the ugliest part of the whole complex. While the rooms and bathrooms are nice enough, they have no amenities other than a TV, an iron and a small fridge with one bottle of water. The complimentary breakfast buffet leaves a lot to be desired. There is no room service and no phone to order anything. There is also no housekeeping since the rooms are only cleaned every third day unless, one is willing to pay extra. This means that weekend guests are stuck with the same sheets, towels and garbage for the duration of their stay. When there is wedding, which was everyday during our stay, hotel guests are not allowed to use to public areas. In fact, the security guard tried to even prevent us from parking our car in the parking lot. AVOID AVOID AVOID. read more

I was part of a group of ladies that visited Shepherd's Run yesterday. We make an effort to visit different wineries around RI (and neighboring states) every couple of weeks. Shepherd's Run was, at the same time, both the best and the worst winery we have experienced. It was the best in terms of venue: beautifully appointed rooms in a venerable estate with manicured grounds. (Looking out over the back expanse I was reminded of a wonderful afternoon spent at Il Borro Vineyards in Tuscany.) However, it was the worst in terms of customer service. I'm writing this review today because I'm still angry at the shabby way our group was treated. Since there were 14 of us, one of the ladies called to make a reservation. No one answered the phone and though many messages were left, it took quite a few days to get a return phone call. When we did connect, we were informed that to make a reservation for a group of 10 or more, there would be a $400.00 fee. (This was not a deposit in case you were a no-show...this was a flat fee that didn't buy you anything except the right to sit at a table.) Since this was a totally absurd suggestion, we asked instead to make 2 reservations of 7 each. We were told that was not a possibility. (The reason we would find out later left me just shaking my head in disbelief.) One of the ladies made the suggestion that we should each individually make an online reservation and place an order for the wine we wanted (you have to place your wine order and pre-pay) and then we would figure out the seating when we got there. Since we are all friends it made no difference to us if we sat in groups of 2, of 4 or whatever. Since it was a Thursday lunchtime and we are seasoned winery patrons, we reasoned that we would probably be the only customers....and we were correct. An hour before we arrived a couple of us received an attacking, punitive rude phone call from Kendall, the winery employee. We were simply trying to patronize the establishment, but here we were receiving aggressive phone calls accusing us of breaking the rules. "I made it very clear what the rules were..." Thankfully, most of us did not receive these aggressive calls before we converged on the winery from various parts of RI and MA. Now come the rules: No food outside. No flights to be taken outside. You can take a glass of wine or a bottle outside but you can't sit on any of the upholstered furniture. The wine was ok...though the flight pours are incredibly tiny. Besides our initial order we ordered bottles to share amongst us. I wandered outside to take in the view. A group of 6 men were seated...drinking & eating on the upholstered furniture. I guess the rules applied to us, not to them. While we were outside milling about, the owner came and confiscated our 2 unfinished bottles of wine and took them back to the bar. A member of our group confronted him but he denied taking them. She had seen him, so it was an absurd conversation. (Our table was clearly not deserted as our purses were all on the chairs and our food was still there.) What happened next was a restaurant customer service nightmare. A contentious argumentative confrontation between the owner Ryan, controlling employee Kendall and about 6 of us. Ryan and Kendall vociferously defending their actions ...and us trying to point out that we were spending a large amount of money on wine, that we would most likely return individually with spouses or other friends if our experience was good. We didn't need waiting on, we were self sufficient and we were sitting in a deserted room, being the only indoor customers. When Kendall yelled, "We are in the hospitality business!" I had to leave the room rather than burst out laughing. Ryan returned a while later with 2 fresh bottles of wine to replace the ones (he now admitted) he confiscated and spent quite a while trying to do damage control. "We don't want groups of 6 or larger here" he said at one point. He indicated that you can't please them and they leave bad reviews. He then went into great detail about problem customers at 2 separate tables a few days ago. How Shepherd's Run was right and how the customers were wrong. (I believe you can read that customer's scathing 1-star review here on Yelp.) One of the ladies pointed out that the Shepherd's Run's website prominently features weddings. I guess they must be weddings for parties of 5 or less. Well, Ryan, I now see first hand why you are receiving bad reviews. Shepherd's Run: hire yourself a true hospitality expert. The customer is not always right, but regardless, there is a right way and a wrong way to handle issues. As representatives of the establishment, you do not dig your heels in about how you are right and the customer is wrong. Loud contentious public arguments are ill advised. Until you make staffing changes and hire a seasoned customer service professional, bad reviews will sink your business faster than you can imagine. read more
