Admittedly, Greenvale has been one of my favorite vineyards in the Newport area for years. What I love the most about it is the relaxing vibe. You can do a tasting, order a bottle, and bring your own food to set up on the patio, lawn or in the stable for a picnic. Some days there is a food truck onsite as well. Depending on the vintage year, my favorite wine tends to change. This year, I really liked the Vidal Blanc. It was aromatic and crisp, perfectly refreshing for a warm day. At times on the weekends, they will have live music, so it's a great place to hang out with friends. Also, for my fellow dog moms, our furry babies are allowed here (human babies as well!). They have an event space in the farm/stable building and they recently built a new facility for wine production. We have been here during all seasons and it truly never disappoints! Stopped by the Vineyard on Saturday for their Harvest Festival! First time there and it will not be my last. Fantastic wine to go with amazing views. A perfect place to sit back and enjoy your day. Stay away from the big corporate places and absolutely go here ! So I'm already planning my child's wedding here and she doesn't even have a boyfriend. We accidentally stumbled upon this insanely amazing vineyard on our way back to the airport from Newport. It is off the beaten path and right on the river. The staff is beyond friendly and really knew their wine. They have an extensive wine list. I would highly suggest getting the flights. At the particular time we were there if you bought two different flights, you were only missing out on tasting three different wines. If you are a Chardonnay lover, they have four different types right now oak undo in a few more. They have one wine right now that screams Thanksgiving dinner. They are all back is to die for. You were right on the river and they have bonfires some nights as well. Plenty of inside and outside seating of course they do a wine club which I still may go back and do. It was my first time visiting Greenvale vineyards and I was not disappointed! First of all, the location is stunning! The vineyard is in proximity to the water and you can watch sailboats float by in the distance. They also offer a gorgeous outdoor patio area where people can enjoy their wines nestled among the green vineyards and gorgeous trees. The wine itself was quite tasty! Greenvale Vineyards is truly one of my favorite spots in Portsmouth. A friend and I visited recently on a Saturday afternoon to soak in the fall weather and it was the perfect place to relax among the grapes and foliage. We stepped into their beautiful tasting room and were excited to find a new sparkling white on the menu (of course we had to bring a bottle home). I also stayed true to my usual go-to, the Vidal Blanc... cold, crisp, refreshing, and always a winner. As always, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We spotted familiar local faces, chatted with the knowledgeable and friendly staff, and even got greeted by an adorable puppy which absolutely made our day. Between their great events, visiting food trucks and the peaceful setting, Greenvale continues to be a staple for anyone looking to enjoy great wine and a beautiful slice of Portsmouth. I'm a big fan of Greenvale. During pandemic days, it was a lovely place to enjoy wine in the great outdoors. I was also drawn by the Village Greek food truck that often makes an appearance there (I love all things Greek, and this food is L-E-G-I-T. I highly recommend it.) I enjoyed the tasting we did, and this is the first place I ever learned about - not dared to try - an unchilled white wine. It completely changed the flavors! So fascinating. This was a fun, one stop on a sprawling state overlooking a nearby lake. We enjoyed a couple of wind flights, roughly the equivalent of two glasses of wine each. The flights may seem a little pricier until you factor in that the pours are heavier. Plenty of outdoor space to enjoy your wine, in addition to cheese and charcuterie options. The Skipping Stone White was our particular favorite. It's a wonderful balance between sweet and dry. Staff was friendly and very helpful in making suggestions. Would recommend for anyone stopping by the area and looking for a great location for a date night or group outing. read more

What a wonderful vineyard! We visited recently for the first time and were delighted with the experience. I believe this vineyard wins the award for longest driveway! After driving by vineyards full of grapevines, you come across the gorgeous tasting room, where they offer wine tastings, flights, glasses, and bottles. Inside, we enjoyed a bottle of the "Meritage" red blend. It is a very dry red blend with light-medium body and hints of red fruit. I loved it! The tasting room is very cozy, nicely decorated, and has ample space for plenty of guests. There is also expansive outdoor space with a variety of different chair and table options to suit your visit. It should be noted that prices for both bottles and glasses are slightly higher here than I have found elsewhere. I also wish that they displayed the price of a tasting or flight, so I would know all the options available to me. I definitely recommend visiting this vineyard. Went with the ladies today and we were able to sit under the gazebo. It was such a beautiful day- music was playing, there was a breeze in the air! Amazing venue for . . . pretty much everything! Went there for the first time this past weekend. It was simply amazing! Fantastic views all around, fabulous staff, and great wine! There is a variety of seating options, wrought iron tables and chairs, as well as picnic tables and of course just sitting on a blanket on the grass is also available. There is a small stage that is used for live music, on this day there was a fantastic jazz band that played and just set the tone for a very relaxing atmosphere. However, after spending $110 on two flights and a bottle of wine, we were leaving and were stopped by the old hag owner who took our $.50 wine glasses off of us. Beautiful location. We came on 4th of July 2024. The property grounds are nice with a slightly rustic look. There was a performer outside which was a nice touch. We did a tasting flight with a mix of red and whites. In my opinion, the Greenvale select chardonnay tasted the best. The others in the group liked the Cabernet. Wine options were limited. I tried the vermouth which was fine. Strong but still smooth. The staff was great- answered all of our questions and patiently waited for us to choose. Finding Greenvale Vineyards was a breath of fresh air, in the otherwise stale wine environment that is New England. After having dreadful tasting experiences all over the region, we were undaunted to find someone with actually drinkable wine, and we found it here! Greenvale is set on the east side of the portsmouth area on Aquidneck island, and features lush rolling hills covered in gorgeous vines. The tasting room is rustic and fun, with three tasting tables, and some retail space. We opted to share a tasting ($15 includes a glass). The wines are overall, very decent compared to anything we've tasted east of California. We especially liked the Chardonnay select ($23.99), the Meritage ($28.99) and the Cab Franc ($28.99). ALL grapes are grown on estate, and they even have so many left over after bottle and crush that they sell some to Newport Vineyards (who between you and me, does these grapes no favors. Stay away from them.) The server and the tasting room manager were friendly and efficient with the large weekend crowd, and even gave us a tasting of their super pungent vermouth. I can't wait to see how this winery does over the years, and I'd especially like to see them open a wine club and do some small group events for those really in the wine and food community. Adorable and private vineyard tucked away on Aquidneck Island with distant views of the Sakonnet River. Ample parking with abundant tables and space to lay out picnic blankets if needed. The perfect way to spend an overcast day with girlfriends! We all had wine flights which had generous pours for $24 each flight. They had 2 food trucks when we were there and you are able to bring your own snacks. I enjoyed the Select Chardonnay the most, and was also pleasantly surprised by their new release Albariño. Stopped in to try some local wines while visiting the area and am glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed their Chardonnay and they have really good red blends. I've decided I only like Malbec when it's a small percentage of it blended with reds I like more hahaha. they do that well. As far as service it was great. We were greeted right when we walked in and moved to a tasting area. The guy doing our tasting was very knowledgeable of the wine and was open to answer all the questions we had large or small. During our visit to Newport, we originally went to Newport Vineyard, as it had more popular ratings. However, upon arrival we found that they didn't sell bottles of wine to enjoy on the deck, which is unusual for a vineyard. So, we drove to Greenvale and boy am I glad we did! When you walk into the premises, it feels like you stepped into the little life on the prairie. There was a dog barking in the back, a red truck, a hammock hung upon a tree, and beautiful vines every where. We started with the wine tasting, which was $8 for 5 tastings - a delectable mix of reds and whites. Our bartender was informative of which seasons produced each type of wine. Then, we took the recommendation from the bartender and bought a white bottle, which we enjoyed under the Newport sun. It was truly beautiful. From the service, to the authenticity of the grounds, and quite affordable prices. Although I love the lavish vineyards I typically go to, this one wins my heart on any day. This winery is off the beaten path but it is a gem. Greenvale is located at the end of a dirt road away from all the hustle and bustle of the main road. They have ample parking but I am sure it fills up on the weekend. We came on a weekday so it wasn't too busy. They have these cool tables with umbrella's looking over the vineyards. We bought a tasting flight of all the different wines so we can try them all. All of them were pretty good but I liked the reds the best. Honestly, I think sitting looking over the vineyard was the best part. It was quiet and relaxing. I am not sure if they have food here but we just stuck with the wine since you can't go wrong with that. We even bought some bottles to take home. I think we went with the cabernet franc and the rose. I know there are a few options for wineries in the Newport area but I would highly recommend this one. read more

If I am writing an honest review about the wines themselves, it's not super positive but also not extremely negative. I think the wine was lackluster for the positive reviews that I read on Yelp... but wine is wine and everyone has different tastes. The Staff pouring the tastings were polite. The $25 flight was a bit pricy for the size of the pours, and add in the $5 entrance fee... I would say 3 out of 5 stars if I'm keeping it all the way real. read more

Went to visit RI and stopped here since it is dog friendly. What a gem! Beautiful outdoor seating and the staff were not only hospitable and very friendly but also helpful and knowledgeable in all wine varieties. Flights and tastings available for all wine lovers. We each got a flight to try some wines for $24 each, and later ordered a bottle of the Vidal Blanc. I liked the wine and felt it was of good quality. They are dog friendly. Today is my mom's 52nd birthday and we decided to celebrate at Greenvale Vineyards. We called ahead to make sure it was okay and we were given the go ahead to bring 16 family members and outside food. Everything was great until the female owner repeatedly walked by our family, shook her head, and made snarky remarks about how we "took over too much of the place," "shouldn't have been able to do this," and were "better off outside." (by the way, the vineyard was empty and it was 40 degrees and windy) We asked her calmly what the issue was numerous times. She couldn't explain her condescending behavior and attitude and told us we were overreacting. We packed our things and left. I know we are a sometimes loud (not rowdy) Filipino family but we are a fun and happy and very respectful one. I think any good business would be happy and feel grateful to have us. I urge you to take your business elsewhere. Please don't support this hateful (and likely racist) business that looks down on happy families (that look different) having fun in their establishment. read more

To the owners: even if it's a small blip in your experience running a business or in your personal life, I hope that it's enough to consider a change in habit, a change in perspective and careful consideration about how you treat others, especially your customers. - Regardless of race, It's NOT okay to walk into a room and condescendingly approach your customers about what they should or should not be doing. It IS okay to ask them nicely. - Regardless of race, It's NOT okay to walk away from your customers with a "you're taking up the whole place" comment and then claim it was not meant to be said negatively - Regardless of race, it's NOT okay to tilt your head to the side, shrug your shoulders and throw your hands as if nothing was wrong when your customers are expressing how offended they feel about being treated - Regardless of race, you shouldn't ever say out loud to your customers "We're happy to have you here BUT...." when you're embarrassed to finish that sentence - Most importantly because of race and the fact that the color of our skin is different than yours, none of it was acceptable. And that "but" should never have been about how you judged my family when we first walked in or when you saw us from afar with our babies as you said, based on our race or the color of our skin. - Saying "I'm sorry" and only after the fact isn't enough, even if you do truly mean it. Do better. We were happy to have visited your place at first BUT there won't be a next time. If you were truly happy to have us there today, I hope you DO BETTER next time for the next family. Background: We reserved a 2p time slot with a very accommodating junior team member of the vineyard. We mentioned we had a large party with lots of kids. It was mentioned the restaurant was not open but we were welcome to bring our own food. All agreed. We started with four orders of wine flights (4 wine types, $24 for the flight). The place was empty and it didn't look like many more were coming in so we took up three booths in the back area with food we brought in. Despite what was agreed upon, when the owner walked in, apparently we were still doing something wrong. Or not. And we no longer felt welcome. Hence all of the above. Wine: not the best, but not the worst. There was one I did enjoy. Either way, I would have bought a bottle of each of the four to support local business had we not had this experience Atmosphere: rustic on the inside. Was just here again for Labor Day weekend and think I like this place even more than the first time I went. It was PACKED with people and yet, the four of us found a comfortable table to sit at and enjoy our picnic under the shade. Lines weren't too long for buying bottles of wine and the overall atmosphere DID NOT feel crowded at all! There's just something about the way this place is spread out and open to all, making you feel like you could venture anywhere and have your separate little spot. This is the type of place where you want to bring a group of friends to enjoy a variety of the most velvety and crisp wine I've ever tasted. Not only was it was it an informative tasting, you have live music in the background. So expect a lovely wine tasting experience when you come here. Jazz Tasting: $15 for 7 tastings, live entertainment in a magnificent atmosphere. You get more than a decent pour as far as tasting goes and I was probably slowing down when I got to my fourth glass. Fantastic little hidden vineyard with a 100+ year old history. We visited during working hours on a weekday and we were virtually the only people there. Tons of space to spread out and enjoy some socially distant drinks. The sommelier was there and let us try a little sip of vermouth, we liked it so much that we bought a bottle. The prices were pretty reasonable. We only stayed for about 1.5 hours, but I could really envision a beautiful wedding or event being hosted here. It's a humble, but grand vineyard. read more

Great location near the water. We were met at the counter by Brandon who introduced us to the available selection. He was quite knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. We tried their wine tasting flight and found the samples generous. We particularly enjoyed their Skipping Stone White and Meritage. The main facility is a historic building and the outside seating area provided a great view of the vineyard. Certain areas of the facility were still under renovation or development. To the owners, I recommend they consider developing another seating area nearer or with a view of the water. This was one of the reasons I chose to visit the place when I saw it on the map.
